Duotone image is turning black and white

Hi
I have a gradient background that I wanted to change to duotone so that when I place another image on top it becomes duotone (gold and blue) as well. However when I open the gradient image and set it as a duotone of blue and gold it becomes black and white.
I managed to do it on a previous document by accident but have no idea how. I have also tried to chage the colours of the duotone in this image from purple and gold to blue and gold but the image becomes black and white.

might be bacause of this: the bar where the duotone colours are supposed to show is in grayscale. so any image I try to change to duotone ends up becoming black and white. how do I change this?

why are my duotone images turning black and white when put in indesign?
I have been playing duo and montotone images into indesing with no trouble. Then all of a sudden as I placew them they go black and whitre. I have tried everything from re saving, re making in photoshop and differant colours et5c. But nothing seems to wrok. The images already in my document arew fine it is just new ones. If someone could help that would be great

Can you start a new document and then load one of the duotones known to be good in the working file and have it correct? If so, try one of the duotones known to be bad in the working document in the new file. Does it work?
If no to either suggestion, can you share one of the images known to be good and one known to be bad? ZIP 'em up and upload to dropbox and plop a link here. Or, to keep the file sizes down, you can quickly make a new set and provide those.
As well, the ID version and OS info would probably be helpful.
    Take care, Mike

  • Colored Pictures Turning Black and White in Certain Files (PSE 9.0)

    Hey guys, how's it going?
I'll try to keep this breif, but it may take a little while to explain. I've been getting a problem with PSE 9.0 where an image or layer that is in color suddenly turns black and white when I paste it into an open file. It's a lot easier to explain with pictures, so here you go.
    Figure 1
    Figure 2
(Before anything else is said, I would like to point out the reasoning behind relating a middle-finger, a hammer and sickle, and a pony from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic into a single image; it's a parody project I'm working on. It's about 30 times weirder out of context, trust me.)
As you can see, the source imagery with "APPA JAK" on it (figure 1) is in full color, but when I pasted it onto the layer with the hammer and sickle, it turned black and white. This has become the same with a few other images I have found, but I couldn't find any reliable way to recreate the problem. The problem is also the same weather I find the pictures from the internet, copy those to my clipboard, and paste them or simply paste them from my computer.
If you need any more information (dxdiag, settings, etc. etc.) feel free to ask, and thanks in advance for helping me!

Just a guess because I don't have the original images to play with, but the hammer and sickle is a grayscale image so images posted into it become grayscale.
Use Image / Mode / RGB Color to change the target image to color before pasting anything into it.
Alternatively, use File / New to create a new image that is full color and paste everything into it.

I'm using Photoshop CC 2014, when I open a picture and movie it to a different Photoshop page, the picture turns black and white. How do I fix this problem?

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details since even your terminology is confusing. there are no "pages" in Photoshop. What you describe in vague terms could be anything from your target document having a different color mode/ color profile to some hardware acceleration issue, but we really can't make any sense of it based on your information.

  • Original picture turns black and white when adding layer masks.

Creating a collage. Just placed a new object with a layer mask. Now I need to create a hue/saturation, levels adjustment layer and color balance adjustment layer all with masks. Ok, no problem, but when I do this, my original picture turns black and white. HELP!!! School project and has to be completed by Monday morning.
    Thanks. Dawn

You haven't added a Hue/Saturation layer that's got Saturation turned all the way down, by chance?
It might be helpful if you'd capture a screen grab and post it here, showing your layers and channels panels.  With a look at how things are organized knowledgeable folks here should be able to help or at least ask more direct questions.

  • My iMac screen suddenly turn black and white when I'm in fullscreen mode. What could be the cause of this problem?

Hi, once in a while the screen on my 5K imac turns black and white when I'm on youtube watching videos in fullscreen mode. It also exits the fullscreen mode automatically from one second to the next and a warning pops up saying how I can exit the fullscreen mode. Does anyone have an idea why this happens and if this is a software or hardware problem?

I'm using a Dell laptop with Windows 7. I've set the resolution to 1024x768, though the maximum resolution on this can go as high as 1366x768. So this is a problem that no one has been able to figure out? I've ran lots of other Flash-based applications that went fullscreen with no problem, so I'm wondering what other methods there are to try, if possible.

  • Iphoto 9.3.1 installed today is turning black and white photos orange when printed

Today I noticed my iphoto was for the first time unstable, presenting in some places black where photos shoud be. I found and installed the latest iphoto update (9.3.1 - 652.3) and found that when  attempted to print black and white photos that I had just cropped using the iphoto's Edit page, that the image turned a dark orange. The same photos uncropped could be printed normally with out the orange appearing.
This appears to be a bug or an unstable new update. When I called Apple Care, we went through the process of restoring the original images stored elsewhere in the computer, but the problem continues.

This is iPhoto for iOS.  You should post your question in the iPhoto for the Mac (iLife) forum to get better answers.

  • Help! My photographs are turning black and white!

I edit and save a photograph in color.  I then apply a black and white action to it and save it as a different file name.  Somehow, when I look back in the folder it's changed the color version of the photograph to Black and white.  Please please please help!!!

We can't know anything. You are not providing any system information, what program and version you use, what image files, how you run the actions and so on. In any case, ask in whatever product forum and provide more details - a lot more.

  • I take a photo color put them in lightroom 5 or photoshop and they turn black and white

I put color photo in either lightroom 5 or photoshop and they turn duotonr. When they first go into LM they stay color for a while than turn B & W     IT seem the B7W is imbeded.   Help before I jump off a bridge.

For one of the photos that is B&W, are any of the following set?
    Treatment = B/W, Saturation = -100%, HSL-Sat all = -100%:

  • After turning an image black and white, how can I color in a certain area?

After turning an image black and white, how can I color in a certain area?

How did you change it? Did you make your B&W on a separate layer? If so, just erase the part of the layer you don't want, or add a layer mask and paint with black over the parts you want to hide.
If not, then you can copy/paste the original photo (you will need to press ctrl+A/cmd+A to select all before you can copy) into the new image. From there it depends on the relative proportions of B&W. Arrange the two layers so the one with the most area that you want to keep is on top, and either mask out the rest or just erase it away.
For future reference, an easier way to do this when starting from scratch is to use the smart brush. Choose a black and white conversion style, turn on the inverse checkbox and paint over the part you want in color. The rest of the photo turns black and white, leaving what you paint over in the original colors.

  • Iphone4s turned to black and white with ios8 update

just recently i have updated my iphone 4s to ios8 and the screen and all the contants turned black and white.....does anyone know how to fix this problem.....
I think ios8 is not for iphone 4s....help me

A reset is holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot, and it will not affect your data. If that doesn't do it, you can try a restore, but I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple Store or your Authorized Apple Service Provider. The screen could be going bad.
