Duplex by default

I want to make my printer automatically print both sides of the page. The printer (Canon MX870) is capable and I have saved a preset so that I can duplex when I want to. Invariably I forget to set it and 30pages into a 50 page print I realize it went back to Standard printing. Is there a way to make the duplex setting the default setting?
Thanks
TL

That is HUGE. Thank you!
It looks like it's going to work - unfortunately after I turn on automatic duplex printing I hit the button at the bottom - which I believe sets and saves these options. Then I get this prompt:
To view this page, you must log in to area “CUPS” on localhost:631.
It asks for a user name and password.
I don't know what they are. My MBP profile user name and password aren't accepted. I tried admin just for fun and it doesn't work either. Is there a default for this because I haven't set a password for it?
Thanks again for the help.

  • Duplex by default - Adobe Acrobat Pro XI

    Hi,
I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro version 11.0.10 on a Mac running OS X 10.10.1 with a latest updates installed. I would like to make Adobe Acrobat Pro to print double sided (Duplex) by default. In a printing dialog there is a checkmark called "Print on both sides of paper" which does the trick, but only temporary. I have to check this option each and every time I want to print duplex.
What I tried is to edit preferences file located in /user/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro.plist and added key "DuplexMode" under  "AVGeneral" and I didn't worked. I did some research online and I found out that previous versions of Adobe Acrobat Pro and Adobe Reader had no problems with defaulting Duplex option, I even installed Adobe Reader 10.1.2 myself to try and it worked like a charm. Please let me know how can I default Duplex printing on a newest version of Adobe Acrobat? It seem like a bug to me, if it is, let me know when can I expect a software update to fix this? Thank you

I got the precise same problem. I have wasted so much paper by forgetting to click the double-sided, and I just want it to be default.
I have a brand new computer using Adobe Acrobat Pro version 11.0.10 on a Mac running OS X 10.10.2 with a latest updates installed.

  • How to make duplex printing "default"?

By default, I want to print duplex, but whenever I print, I find that I always have to manually alter the "layout" and tell it to print duplex.
Is there a way to set up a printer to be duplex by default?

After you have set up your desired defaults in the Print dialog, select Save As from the Presets drop down menu. Save your configuration. You can then set that preset for your default.

  • Duplex printing default in 10.1.2

I recently updated to 10.1.2. I get a new print dialogue box. The printer also defaults to printing in duplex. I only have one paper tray so I end up having to put paper in the manual tray to print odd pages. How can I change default settings back to single tray?

I can't help but wonder why Adobe doesn't respond to this - at this point there are 464 views of this item and still no answer. I have the same problem and it's a big irritation to have to set the duplex mode everytime I want to print!

  • Saving duplex as default

Every time I print a pdf file I need to go through the steps to get duplex (double-sided) printing. On some printers it is not so tedious - there's a box that I tick that asks for double-sided. I use a couple of Epson printers (the one nearby right now is an XP-600) and with them I have to go through a number of steps (printer, layout, two-sided printing options, long-edge binding, printer, print) to get the duplex printing. I would like to store that so I don't have to repeat it every time. I have 'duplex' selected in the presets section but this does not seem to help. Between every print command, not just between startups of the adobe program, the information about duplexing is forgotten and things revert to single-sided. Is this an Adobe problem or should I be looking to Epson for an answer?

This is an adobe problem- one that Adobe refuses to address.   The problem is that acrobat bypasses the print driver (and all default print settings) unless you click on the "printer..." button.  So until adobe fixes this problem you'll have to continue to follow the same steps you have been.

  • Duplex printing by default on Macs

Is there any way to make adobe reader 10.1.1 print duplex by default on my Mac?  At present each time I print something I need to go through the printing options, select printer, and then modify the option to duplex.  This is annoying, and only happens on adobe products as far as I can tell.
Considering I sometimes print multi-hundred page documents, getting simplex when I don't expect it is f-n annoying.
If there isn't anyway to do this by default right now, is there a way to suggest gently that they fix it?
    thanks

  • Print in duplex mode

    Hi experts,
I need to print on duplex mode ABAP list documents. My printer works with  HPLJ4 PCL5 driver  (ricoh Aficio 3045) on SAP but when i try to print on duplex mode (the printer properties are set to print on duplex by default) i can't get it.
I don't use Smart forms. On SPAD i have created a new device, the acces metod is F: Printing on front end computer,  the device type copy of original HPLJ4 to test it, but i only can get paper printed simplex.
    Please, Can you help me?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
The duplex settings in SPAD only work for device types that have the special list driver, Try using device type HPLJ4000 instead of HPLJ4 and create a new spool.

  • Adobe Acrobat 10.1.3 Mac OS does not inherit the Duplex setting from PPD for HP printers

Adobe Acrobat for the Mac OS does not inherit the setting from the PPD for the printer. Our current settings for the PPD has Duplex enabled as the default for the HP LJ 9050 and it works in all the application with the exception of Acrobat 10.1.3, Acrobat does not inherit this setting from the driver.  Our previous installation with Acrobat 10.1.0 duplex worked well with our PPD configuration where Acrobat inherits the setting from the PPD and duplex is default for all our black and white printers.
We found reference to the reserve issue with 10.1.2 in the forum but that solution is global for all printers and it only works with version 10.1.2
Does anyone know how to set the default printing settings in Acrobat version 10.1.3 to allow us to have duplex printing by default on the Mac.

    >It looks like a typical case of finger pointing, Adobe blames Epson, Epson blames Apple. Apple blames the user...
No, you still don't get it...Lightroom is a Cocoa app...it uses Cocoa printing APIs...therefore, print drivers will have to be rev'ed to support those Cocoa APIs...the 3800 (6.10) DOES...the earlier 3.5x drivers won't under Leopard.
What's the driver version of your R800? Something like 3.09? The odds are REAL GOOD (since Epson hasn't released an updated driver for that printer yet) that it's not been updated.
So, you are just gonna have to wait for Epson to rev the drivers, use Tiger instead of Leopard or print out of Photoshop CS3 (which is a Carbon app and uses the Carbon APIs) or not print.
You may not _LIKE IT_ but those are your options...

  • Crystal Reports Duplexing issues after upgrading to SP5

Our Application Software Vendor uses Crystal Reports XI as their reporting tool.  Recently we upgraded our application software which included upgraded from CR XI SP3 to SP5.  Since then we've experianced problems printing some of the reports in DUPLEX mode.  All our printers are set up to print DUPLEX by default.  Since they upgrade, many of our reports have begun to print SINGLE SIDED even though EVERYTHING should print in DUPLEX.  This only occurs if the report is to print to the users DEFAULT printer.  If the user changes printers before running the report, it prints correctly in DUPLEX mode. I opened the reports in the CR designer and changed the preinter setting to select the DEFAULT printer.  This worked in a couple of instances, but not for most of the reports.  Any input/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I create all Crystal reports using the HP III driver as the designeted printer and have for 10 + years.. It is the generic HP driver  Seems to solve alot of printer problems that i have encountered reqardless of what printer they are actually using.
This is not used to replace the users print driver, just within the actual creation of the Reports.
    Good Luck.

  • Printing duplex (recto-verso)

Printing menu does not offert the selection for recto verso. If the printer (HP CP2025) is duplex by default, it prints duplex; if the default is single side it prints that way. How can I select this option from the printing menu? Thanks

Here's an educated guess.  I'm not familiar with your specific printer, but I would try this:
When you prepare to print something, you should see a menu like this:
Click the button that says "Safari" in this illustration and see if it says "Output Settings" down below.  My guess is you'll be able to choose Recto Verso down there.

  • Acrobat "forgets" about duplex mode

I am using Acrobat X Pro on an Intel MacBookPro with OS 10.6.8. I have a networked HP ColorLaserJet 5550dn printer with duplex unit which works just fine in any other application. If I have a multi-page .pdf document I want to print from Acrobat (or, for that matter, Reader!), I get the Acrobat dialog box instead of the standard Mac one. Of course, it doesn't have a "duplex" option, so I click on the "Printer..." button in their dialog box. I can then set up duplex printing and it works just fine. Here is the problem: The next time I start Acrobat and print the VERY SAME DOCUMENT, it comes out single-sided, wasting paper. This is true even if I do NOTHING in between (no other print jobs etc.). In other words, by layering their proprietory print dialog box over the Mac one, apparently Acrobat is incapable of "remembering" from one print incident to the next to submit the Duplex command. Strangely, if I simply go through the chain "Print" -> press the "Printer..." button in the dialog box, I see that duplex is still selected, and if I then simply click "Print" in both the Mac and the Acrobat dialog boxes, everthing works as expected - twosided output. So going through the Mac printer dialog box apparently "jogs the memory". Ironically, by default you get a WARNING when clicking on the "Printer..." button in the Acrobat dialog box!
So, for now I'll have to remember to jump through the extra hoops every time or I'll waste more trees. BTW, a nearly 1-hour long "chat" with Adobe Support didn't resolve the problem, but messed up some more things instead.

O.k., this works indeed for this ONE document (if I save it after changing its properties). However, I rarely print the same file twice - my problem is printing out files sent to me by others (who may not know about this property) and having to remember each time to jump through some extra hoops (either clicking the "Printer..." button or your suggestion). So the only true solution would be if I could somehow teach Acrobat to print ALL files as duplex by default (or, like all other Mac applications that use the Mac Printing interface, use whatever printer settings were used last unless specifically changed).

  • Need Help...HP x476dw Printer and Duplex Mode

My printer won't stop printing in duplex mode.  I have disabled all duplex settings and it's still printing double sided.  Don't know where else to look????

From all of your apps or from one of them?  Where have you disabled the settings?  There are setting for page layour in apps (usually set to one page) and page settings on the HP (sest to duplex by default if my memory serves me on setup).

  • Printing in duplex

When printing a word doc. there is a settings button where you can choose to print in duplex (both sides). This option is not available when I print a pdf doc. This has happened after I reinstalled the printer. What happened?(duplex printing did function before I did the reinstall)

The duplexer may default to "not installed" with the new installation.  Try the following:  click Start, Devices and Printers, right click on the Officejet Pro 8600, Printer Properties, Device Settings, set the automatic duplex unit to "Installed", Apply, OK.

  • Link between Cisco C4506-E & C2950 is down when speed & duplex is NOT Auto

    I have C2950 running with 12.1(22)EA13 having uplinks connected to C4506-E (1) & C4506-E (2) 15.0(2)SG.
Speed and duplex are default settings [Speed is auto & duplex is full]. Link between C4506E(1) Gi2/35 <<-->> C2950 Gi 0/1 is negotiated to Speed 1000 & Duplex full. Whereas other link C4506E(2) Gi 2/35 <<-->> C2950 Gi 0/2 is negotiated to Speed 100 & Duplex full.
I tried to configure link C4506E(2) Gi 2/35 <<-->> C2950 Gi 0/2 manual negotiation with speed 1000 & duplex full on both the end interfaces and found link is down.
Why one uplink negotiation happened to be 100 when other is negotiated to 1000 ?
Is there any bug identified with the current running IOS.?

  • Why isn't my printer printing 2-sided?

I have just set up my HP Officejet 6700 Premium printer and sent a 40 page document to print.  The whole document printed single-sided instead of 2-sided which I thought was automatic with this printer.
    Does anyone know why?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
The 6700 capable of printing a two sided document, however you need to set the printer to do so, it is not configured to print duplex by default.
You may find below the steps to perform a duplex print:
    Load the appropriate media.
With a document open, click Print on the File menu.
Click Properties or Preferences to access the Printing Preferences.
Within the Layout tab, Set the Print on both Sides option as Flip on Long Edge
Click OK and Print the document.
