Duplex printing on officejet could only be set to short-edge binding

My 6700 officejet could only print on two-side with short edge binding even when the dault preset is set to long-edge binding. I have tried everything. Something is overriding the duplex setting and I can't figure out what. Please help.

What version of OS X?

  • DUPLEX PRINTING - HP Officejet 6500 E710a-f PRINTER

My HP Officejet 6500 E710a-f is fitted with a Gadget for Duplex  Printing.
That notwithstanding, the Print Settings do not provide an option for automatic Duplex Printing. The Settings only provide for a "Print One Sided" under which there is a Sub-Option that provides for "Manually Print on Both Sides" with the Intruction "Reload Paper when prompted to print the second side".
Have I perhaps looked for the Duplex Printing Option at the wrong place OR would there perhaps be something wrong with my Printer/Software?
More to the point, do I need to do anything to activate the Duplex Printing capability??

Ensure that the driver knows that a duplex unit is present on the printer (assuming that one is):
For the printer instance in question, bring up the Printer properties dialogue.
    Select the Device settings tab.
Ensure that the duplex unit is set to Installed rather than Not installed.

  • HP Photosmart 6520 - shows offline and has stopped rotating printing for short-edge binding

I have suddenly had some issues with my HP Photosmart 6520 printer. I use a wireless connection with my Macbook Pro (OSX 10.9.5)
First problem is that the printer icon in the dock has recently shown to be offline/not connected. The printer would print pages of documents in the computer (Open Office stuff) but would not print material direct from a web browser. Now (a few days later) it showed to be offline and wouldn't print anything.
I should point out that the printer device list in System Preferences shows two different entries: one is "HP Photosmart series 6520" (listed as offline) - and the second is "Photosmart 6520 series (FDA82D)" (listed as idle).
The first ("HP Photosmart series 6520") had been ticked as the default printer.  I then ticked "Photosmart 6520 series (FDA82D)" to change the default printer.
Then I noticed, when I used the Print command for a document, that the printer list in the Print dialogue box showed that it had a tick against the "HP Photosmart series 6520" printer. When I changed this to the ("Photosmart 6520 series (FDA82D)" printer, the machine printed my document. But the next time I opened the print command, the tick was once again next to the "HP Photosmart series 6520" printer.
The printers listed in the Print dialogue box have small icons to their left. The "HP Photosmart series 6520" has a wavy line inside a circle and the "Photosmart 6520 series (FDA82D)" has an exclamation mark inside a triangle.
The second problem is that the printer is no longer rotating the second page when I am printing two-sided and choose "short edge binding" in layout. It now prints out exactly the same as when "long edge binding" is selected (default). The result is that the second page is printed upside down in relation to the first page. This problem has never previously occurred.
So far I have tried paracetamol and scotch but neither seems to solve these problems. Not sure if I should try them together!
Sorry this is so long-winded - I'm trying to include as much detail as possible to make it all clear from the start.

    Hello lenc48,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having a few issues when it comes to printing from your mac as well as some two sided printing issues.
I do have a some suggestions that we can try in the attempt to troubleshoot this issue.
First off, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
Please remove the usb cable (if using wireless, disregard this step) from the printer and from the Mac and leave it disconnected until further notice.
Please click on the first link that will give you instructions on Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once the software has been removed, please disable any anti virus protection that you may have on the Mac.
The next step we are going to take is downloading the HP Photosmart 6520 e-All-in-One Printer Full Feature Software and Drivers - OS X 10.9 Mavericks.
The installation will prompt you when to connect the usb cable (You will see a prompt for a wireless connection as well if that is the connection type you would like to use) so please do not connect the cable until prompted to do so.
If you are still having issues, feel free to write me back or you can contact HP Total care direct.  If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
    Thanks for your time.

  • HP 8600 Officejet Pro stuck on layout setting of long-edge binding (duplex printing)

My HP 8600 Officejet Pro 8600 is stuck on a layout setting for printing of long-edge binding (duplex printing). It's conected to a mac running OSX 10.8.4 Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi,
From the application used to print click on File and the select Print. The Print window appears.
NOTE: The Print window might be minimized. Click the blue triangle next to the printer name to see all available settings.
In the expanded Print window you will find next to Copies the checkbox for Two-Sided. Check the box.
NOTE: If the checkbox does not appear within the specific application print dialog, skip this step.
Click the lowest selection box listed as the name of the program (e.g. TextEdit)
Will appear as Copies & Pages within Microsoft Office applications.
Select Layout from the drop-down menu.
    6. Set the Two-Sided option as the required binding or select Off to disable it.
Click on Presets > Save Current Settings as Preset and perform the print job... the settings will remain default till another preset will be used.

  • Duplex printing with officejet pro 8000

I am using this officejet pro 8000 to print up some newsletters.  When printing a two sided copy (duplex printing) something happens which changes my border setting.  Printing the exact same document, but electing one-sided copy renders a perfect border.  I would not have a problem copying just one side, then re-loading those in order to make two-sided copies, but the friction caused by the ink on the pages causes mulitple sheets to feed at the same time, jamming the printer.  Has HP ever come up with a fix for this?  I have seen this problem on the net, but the best folks have done (that I have seen) is to upload drivers for older machines.  This has rendered good borders on duplex prints, but diminishes the quality of the print copy.  Whatcha think?

Mac Help senior customized my settings by adding "duplex printing" to the "Presets" list.
Are you using the latest drivers from HP? If I set up a printer with the HP Officejet Pro 8000 A809 Series PPD, I can see Two-Sided to the right of Collated if the HP Two-sided Printing Accessory (Duplexer) is checked in the Print & Fax -> Options & Supplies -> Driver tab. If this is not checked, Two-Sided won't appear.
MAC HAS TO CREATE A PATCH TO SIMPLIFY THIS SNOW LEOPARD ERROR!
Apple doesn't write the HP software.

    Hi,
From the application used to print open teh Print dialog, then click on Properties / Settings / Preferences to access the Printing Preferences dialog.
Within the Layout tab set Two-Sided printing as Off, confirm the changes and try printing again.
Additionally from the Control Panel open Devices and Printersm right click the printer icon and select Printing Preferences.

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system? How is the printer connected - USB, wired LAN, Wireless LAN, bluetooth? Are there any error messages on the printer or computer screen?  Do you have an automatic duplexer?  Is it enabled as discussed here?

  • Duplex printing on mac

I Have an Officejet 4612 with duplex printing on a Mac using OS 10.10.10  when printing duplex from Word the back of the page is upside down. What can I do to make this right.

    Hey @Effectsman,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the duplex printing orientation issue you're experiencing with your HP Officejet 4610 series Printer. I'm going to start by providing you with generic duplex troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue for you.
Step 1: Check the Duplex Settings:
Please just ensure that the Duplex print settings are set correctly.
Open the document you want to print.
On the File menu, select Print. The Print window displays.
    Print window
In the expanded Print window, select the check box next to the Two-Sided option.
    Expanded print window
Click the down arrow next to the name of the program to see the available panels.
Click the down arrow next to the name of the program
Select Layout from the drop-down list. The Layout panel opens.
From the Two-Sided drop-down list, select Long-Edge Binding or Short Edge Binding, depending on the orientation you want for your pages. When you select one of these options, the illustration shows you how the pages are oriented.
    Select type of binding
Source: Printing on Both Sides of the Paper (Duplexing) in Mac OS X
If everything is set as it should be but the backside of the page is still upside down, can I have you proceed to the next step.
    Step 2: Check Driver:
If your product happens to be using the Apple Airprint driver than that could cause duplexing issues. To ensure that this is not the case can I have you:
    Click on Apple
    Select System Preferences
    Select Print & Scan
Under Print &Scan select your Officejet printer queue and verify if the title shows 'Airprint'
If it does, hit the (-) minus sign to delete this print queue
Select the (+) plus sign to readd the printer
Ensure that the 'Print Using' selection is set the the correct HP model of printer you have and not Airprint.
Now try to duplex print again.
Please let me know if these steps resolve your issue. Best of luck!

  • HP LaserJet 1320 Duplex Printing Not working with Windows 7

    Hi
I've just bought a new PC with Windows 7 Home Premium. I have an HP LaserJet 1320 printer (Prod no. Q5927A, SN CNGW53RLRY).
I cannot find driver that works the same way as the previous driver HP LaserJet PCL5. If I use this driver and can still get duplex printing but it will only print one copy at a time.
If I upgrade to HP Universal Printing PLC (or PLC v5) I can print multiple copies but not duplex printing. I have searched high and low through the HP site but to no avail.
Any help and advice will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hello,
I've seen this same issue with my printers (other HP printers) whereby the default setting to support the Duplexing hardware was set to 'off'.
A quick method to check this is look at what the setting is for Duplex hardware in the Device Settings tab, and if it's not set, correct it.
      Printer Properties:
From the 'Start' orb -> [Devices & Printers] -> right click on your Printer icon -> select 'Printer Properties' -> click on 'Device Settings' tab.
You should see a dialog similar to the mine (attached): look for the 'Duplex unit (for 2-sided printing)' and see if it's set to "Not Installed":
--> in either case, click on 'Not installed' and from the dropdown box, select 'Installed'... Click 'OK' to accept the changes and close the dialog.
    Printing Preferences:
again, right click on your Printer icon -> select 'Printing Preferences' -> click on 'Advanced' tab.
-->Check to see if there is a 'Duplex Hardware' or '2-sided printing' option in here: mine doesn't show one but thougth I'd mention it nonetheless.
Click on the 'Finishing' tab and select 'Print on both sides'...or simply test print a multi-page document and set those preferences on-the-fly.
Let me know if this helps...

  • Duplex Printing Not Working - Brother HL4570CDW

    Hey all,
I managed to get a network printer setup and it works; however, the only thing that isn't working is duplex printing. I installed the driver from AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/brother-hl4570cdw/
In my default options I have "Two-Sided Printing" set to "Long-Edge Binding". But the CUPS printer page at localhost:631/printers/metafont (where metafont is the name/URL of the printer) shows me:
    Description: metafont
    Location:    metafont
Driver:    Brother HL-4570CDW series CUPS (color, 2-sided printing)
    Connection:    lpd://metafont/BINARY_P1
    Defaults:    job-sheets=none, none media=na_letter_8.5x11in sides=one-sided
What concerns me here is the sides=one-sided, I have a feeling that's a problem. In any case, I tried to print a PDF using evince and in "Page Setup" it tells me that the two-sided option is "Not available" and I also tried to print from the command line and adding the "-o sides=two-sided-long-edge" option but that didn't work either.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    He Daniel.
The standard HP ePrint feature does not support Duplex printing, I would assume that the same applies for HP ePrint Enterprise:
Are there any limitations that I should be aware of when using ePrint?
Duplexing (printing on both sides of the page) is not supported.

  • Duplex printing on Canon MG6150

    Hey everyone,
I recently bought a Canon Pixma MG6150 printer which comes with automatic duplex printing. I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
I want to use it in InDesign to create a booklet however, whenever I go into Print Settings>Printer>Duplex Printing & Margin everything is greyed out.
I've tried all the drivers I can find on the Canon website and the CD that came with the printer. I've heard about using older drivers, does this mean to download older OS drivers (I tried 10.5 and my Mac said it was not possible to install) or older drivers from Canon?
    Any ideas? Thanks!

I fixed the problem, however I've seen a lot of questions about the Canon duplex printing issues with some Mac users so I thought I'd put my solution up to help anyone else.
Going through the On-Screen Manual that comes with the CD I found out that:
When a media type other than Plain Paper, Hagaki A or Hagaki is selected from Media Type menu of Quality & Media, Automatic Duplex Printing appears grayed out and is unavailable.
When Borderless Printing is set, Automatic Duplex Printing appears grayed out and is unavailable.
Automatic Duplex Printing can be performed only when one of the following paper sizes is selected from Paper Size.US Letter, A5, A4, B5 JIS (JB5), Hagaki
After printing the front page, there is an ink drying wait time before starting to print the back page (Operation stops temporarily). Do not touch the paper during the time. You can change the ink drying wait time from Custom Settings in the Canon IJ Printer Utility.
After going through the printing settings and following these regulations, Duplex Printing was no longer grey!

  • Duplex printing on a Samsung CLP-550n

I'm running a MacBook Pro with Leopard and have been printing (one-sided) quite happily to our networked Samsung CLP-550n. But, I can't print duplex, the option is greyed out in the printer dialogue box yet from other macs around the office its possible? The default on the printer is set to long-edge binding duplex printing.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Alright, it really was a coincidence. However, the printer is using up way too much toner, the text is all blurry. I've already lowered the quality to draft, but it's not enough.
This printer is known to use a lot of toner, but not that much. I had to adjust some settings under Windows, too, to reduce the consumption, but it wasn't so bad that the writing was blurry. And I can only adjust the quality in Linux, I didn't find any other options to play with.

  • Can't do duplex printing!

I'm in an office with four iMacs running OS X Leopard v10.5.8.
We're all using CS4 Acrobat 9 Pro v9.4.6 (which Check For Updates tells me is up-to-date).
We're printing to a networked Xerox Phaser 6180DN.
And we can't print anything in two-sided duplex from Acrobat Pro.
We can print in duplex from every other application on the iMacs (including other CS4 apps) without problem.
But I need to be able to print non-CS PDF files in duplex.
I've done Google searches and searches within Adobe Help.
I've found the File>Properties>Advanced>Duplex Flip Long Edge
    This doesn't make any difference.
Please don't tell me to upgrade to CS5 or Acrobat X Pro ... that's out of my hands.
Please do tell me how I can enable duplex printing from Acrobat 9 Pro!

Guys ... I've been using Macs and Adobe products since the late 80s.
I still have a copy of Illustrator 88 (the original one) sitting on a ZIP disc somewhere.
I do have a clue on using these applications.
That's why problems like this are so frustrating. It should simply work ... and it doesn't!
And Yes ... both are set to double sided printing and No it doesn't print doubled sided:
    1. File>Properties>Advanced>Duplex Mode is set to: Duplex Flip Long Edge
    2. In the Layout pane in the Print window, Two Sided is set to Long Edge Binding
And all the pages are printed one one side of the paper.
Further, we went the long way around and tried to print the catalog directly from the source InDesign file, which takes fricking forever.
Even more annoying was that some of the pages were printed double sided and some of the pages were printed single sided.
Now, I can pull up large documents in Microsoft Word 2008 Mac (which I HATE - I use Apple Pages at home) and just click Two Sided from Off to Long Edge Binding ... and I get a perfect (well almost) double sided print.
    Now what?????
