Duplicate accounts in Mail

Moin (stands for Good Morning in Northern Germany, used all day long)
the problem is: I've got to set up a load of POP mail accounts using the same server. e.g.: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and so on. Is there a simple way to duplicate them and change username, password and such later?
Danke schön!
Gunnar

Moin Gunnar.
None that I'm aware of because you can't create multiple email accounts in Mail that utilize the same user name and incoming mail server.
When creating an email account in Mail, an account named folder is created at the first level within the Mail folder at Home > Library > Mail named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account.
This account and associated mailbox filing structure prevents having multiple accounts in Mail that utilize the same user name and incoming mail server or duplicating an existing account and changing the user name, incoming mail server and password later.

  • Duplicate accounts in Mail, Contact and Calendar

I found that I have duplicate accounts in Mail, Contacts and Calendar.  When I try to delete them from within those apps, System Preferences - iCloud is launched.  Within iCloud there are no duplicates, so there is nothing to delete.  How do I delete the duplicates in the individual apps?

Well, it looks like you’ll have to do some kind of Reset Sync Data in System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, e.g. from the .Mac server to the PowerBook, maybe after quitting Mail and moving com.apple.mail.plist out of ~/Library/Preferences/...

  • Gmail IMAP - Duplicate Accounts in Mail

    Hello all-
I found a similar discussion about this a couple weeks ago but was unable to find a solution. I enabled the IMAP function on my Gmail account, and it works fine. However, I now have two Gmail folders that seem to act independently of each other. One Gmail folder is found in the big Inbox folder and another is found in a folder marked with an @ globe. If I delete an e-mail in the big folder, it's still in the globe folder. I have the same issue with sent e-mails, which means I'm having to delete all my e-mails twice. Is there a way to have my inbox, sent, etc. e-mails in one place?

check out this page and see if it works:

  • In mail, I unchecked store deleted messages on the server and now I have 2 (duplicate) iCloud IMAP accounts in mail. If I delete one, will I loose my mail?

If I delete one of my duplicate ICloud accounts, will I loose all my mail? I was searching for where I was getting the deleted mail and unchecked the store deleted messages on the server. That made changes to my account and now under accounts in mail I have the same account twice. I do not want to loose my mail and am affraid to delete one of the accounts.

Im trying to avoid a reinstall so am hoping there is a supporting file I have missed that can be trashed. I have also just tried trashing the ~/library/mail folder but there is no change to the check box behaviour.

Re: Mail only sending through one account

I believe I found the resolution to this.  Under Mail - Preferences, the outgoing mail server (SMTP) must be set for each individual account.  Mine was originally all set under one, making all messages send from the same address.  I had to re-enter my password in the settings for some of my accounts since there was login issues, but all in all it seems to be working.

  • Duplicate iCloud Accounts in Mail after Yosemite Upgrade

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I now have two iCloud accounts in Mail (but not in other applications like Notes or Contacts).
Both appear under Mail/Preferences/Accounts, but when I try to delete one I get the message: "The Mail Account [email protected] is shared by other applications on this Mac. You can remove this account in Internet Accounts". Yet when I click through to Internet Accounts, only one iCloud account exists.
I have tried logging out of my iCloud account and restarting as suggested in another post. The original iCloud mail account remains whether logged in or not, but doesn't show up at all in "Internet Accounts" so I am unable to delete it.
    Appreciate any suggestions.

Hi, sorry but I didn't keep track of exactly what I did. But I think it was:
While logged into iCloud, I opened Mail/Preferences/Accounts and adjusted the username in the newer iCloud account to make it the same as the username for the original iCloud account (this one was greyed out). A warning came up asking me if I wanted two iCloud accounts with the same name. I clicked yes.
I then logged out of iCloud, and restarted my computer. Going back to Mail/Preferences/Accounts I was now able to delete the original iCloud account.
Finally, I logged back in to iCloud and the new iCloud account showed up in Mail.
Hope that helps. And that I remembered correctly!

  • Why have I got duplicate mailboxes in Mail (Mac OS X 10.7.2)? Why can't I delete them?

Ever since installing Mac OS X 10.7 I have been plagued by duplicate mailboxes in Mail.app. Does anyone know why this could be? I also cannot delete them — Mail just freezes and I have to Quit and relaunch. Any help gratefully received. TIA.

Same problem - Mail at some point decided to create, like, Inbox and Inbox-2, in various accounts. Same with Sent Mail and other maiboxes within a given account (I have four--and they worked just fine in Snow Leopard.)
Of course, I am also using POP mail--but that can't be the problem, POP configures just fine and there's no problem with Send or Receive.
Just .. why the duplicate Inbox, for example. I tried importing them and sorting into just plain Inbox for the account--but no. Mail instantly re-creates the dupe folder.
Which makes some mail not show up, of course, in the Mail window--it's in a different mailbox!
Will name firstborn after person with solution/fix.

  • ICal duplicate accounts

Since I have upgraded to Lion and switch to iCloud my Calender gives me duplicate accounts. No matter what I have done they return. I sick of it. Can any one tell me how fix this problem? I have tried many things that I have found out on the web but they keep returning.

Ok, hereis what I the steps that I have done.
    1) Signed out of iCloud
    2) Remove all accounts under "Mail, Contacts & Calenders"
    3) Cleared ~/Library/Calenders folder
    4) Went back and checked "Mail, Contacts & Calenders" and sure enough the MobileMe account had popup again.
    5) Went under ~/Library/Cache and removed file that contained iCal - that stop the account from populating temporarily.
    6) Restarted
    7) Went under "Mail, Contacts & Calenders" and only added my iCloud account.
And the race was on, duplicates again.
    8) Created Test account.
    9) Restarted login to Test account
    10) Added my iCloud account under "Mail, Contacts & Calenders"
    11) Opened iCal "No Duplications of Accounts or Events" in Test account. Waited 30mins or so and everything is ok in the Calenders (no duos).
    ==========================
So here is what I did to try and resolve this mystery (right or wrong)
    12) Copy the Calenders folder from the ~/Library folder to the /users/Shared folder
    13) Copy the Cache file from the ~/Library/Cache folder that contains iCal to the /users/Shared folder (note: this is hidden file)
    14) Logout of test account and login back into primary account.
    15) Checked to make sure there are no accounts in "Mail, Contacts & Calenders" and also made sure ~/Library/Calenders was empty.
    16) Copied the folder /users/Calenders to ~/Library and the Cache folder (com.apple.iCal) copy it to ~/Library/Cache. If you do not see the com.apple.iCal folder in /users/Shared it may be hidden.
    17) Restarted once again.
    18) Logged in to my primary account.
    19) Went to System Perferences and made sur I was logged into iCloud.
    20) Opened iCal and waited.... 2hrs later no duplicate accounts or events. Added some test events and it sync the event than started duplicating accounts again. What a pain in the A$$.
    21) back at square one!!!

  • Mail account INCOMING MAIL field empty

Since upgrading to 10.7.2 I am unable to connect to a MacMe/iCloud account from my wife's iMac 20/ Mid 2007 though there is no problem with her GMail account or connecting to a MacMail account from my login on the same machine.
When examining the MacMail account in Mail/Preferences/Accounts the INCOMING MAIL SERVER field is empty, greyed & displaying mail.example.com, and unselectable.  If I make any changes to the account info I get an "cannot have empty incoming mail server field" error messages when saving.
I created a duplicate of the account with a different name entering mail.me.com in the INCOMING MAIL SERVER field.  When I made this account active the field again defaulted to empty.
Migrating to iCloud did not resolve this issue.

  • Notes - duplicate accounts?

So I set up my notes to show up in my iCloud so I can see my notes on my mac and my iphone. I have a gmail account and for some reason it is showing up twice, so in total it is showing up notes from 4 accounts (iCloud, my Google account (gmail), my work email then Google again) I have checked my accounts under "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" under "Preferences" and it is only showing 3 accounts (iCloud, Google, and my work email). Where is that 4th account coming from? Here is a picture. I'm confused! Thanks!

I don't know what's causing the duplicates.  It seems to be different problems for everyone.  Yours seems to be some kind of feedback loop.  Mine is random and could involve a contact or a simply notes.
Complicating the issue is using non-Mac sources such as Exchange.  Dealing with Microsoft is bad enough on a good day, but incorporating it in with my Apple process is infectious.
Since there is no solution, I could only suggest restoring from backups and deleting everything on the server.  Back up regularly - every day or every week.  It only takes a few seconds.

  • How do i create more than one account in Mail with the same isp?

I am using suddenlink and have set up one account for Mail. It seems to work ok. I want to set up two others with the same provider but can't.
Let's call the first account, account1
    It works.
I set up another and call it account2.
It is using the same provider which already has the account set up on their end, but how do I set it up to work on my end? Does it need to use the same username as account1 or can it use the user name for account2? I hope this makes sense.
I just want to use three email addresses from the same provider with mail. I need some help. Please?

Initially you need to configure via the provider's own web based control panel multiple e-mail accounts. If they don't have one, work it out with their customer support to have three distinct mail accounts. Then you can setup multiple logins by adding new accounts to mail. Since mail checks all accounts per Mac OS X user account simultaneously, it probably is best to use different usernames on the same internet provider. If you don't want mail to show all the information from all three mail accounts simultaneously, configure Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Accounts to have multiple users on your computer, and configure each of the internet service provider accounts for each separaet user on Mac OS X.

  • Unable to create new email from Gmail account in Mail

I just installed gmail to retrieve messages within Mail: I can receive gmail messages and reply to gmail from Mail. However, I cannot create and send a new message in Mail using my gmail account; when I do I get the following error message:
    Enter Password for Account
    smtp.gmail.com:xxxx[account name]
The SMTP server "smtp.gmail.com" rejected the password for user "xxx[account name]"
Please re-enter your password, or cancel.
No matter how many times I add it correctly and click OK, the same message returns.

Google provides instructions for setting up a Gmail
    account in Mail here:
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13
    275
Make sure you’ve set up the account as described
    there.
That is what I used to set up my gmail account in Apples Mail App before your post. Those instructions say that when you click on the Advanced Tab that the port will switch to 995 - which it did for me. I do have a minor problem though. Is there any way to prevent emails sent from Mail via gmail from showing up in gmails web page? I don't really like web mail whatsoever!

  • Why can I no longer send email from my Hotmail SMTP account using Mail?

I can no longer send email from my Hotmail SMTP account using Mail. The connection doctor says it can't connect to the SMTP server. All the settings look to be correct and it was working fine before. I can still email using my iPhone with the same account.

Other may post it is some type of change with your ISP but the simple fact is this happen with Apple Mac Mail all the time.
IMHO Mac Mail is one of, if not the, worst mail program ever written.
Do yourself a big favor and start using some other mail program, any other Mail program.

  • Mail Accounts in Mail

I had to re-establish one of my e-maila accounts in Mail and I can't see any messages.  It shows me how many messages are unread in the left panel, but no messages are displayed in the main window.  Can someone suggest a fix?

If you deleted the account in Mail in order to re-create it, you deleted all messages in account mailboxes.  If the account was a POP account, those messages are probably not still on the server, but you can be sure by selecting the account, pressing command-i and seeing what messages are reported as being on the server.  If the account was IMAP, then the messages should all still be on the server.  You may simply need to force the account to sync (Mailbox -> Synchronize All Accounts).
If the messages are gone, do you have any backups?
