Duplicate albums

iTunes downloaded different tracks from the same album onto two different iTunes albums; I can't find a way to merge the two iTunes albums into one. I don't understand why it created two albums. Any suggestions?

Highlight all the tracks from the album. Get Info on the tracks, then enter a single album name into the album field.  This is assuming they don't already have the same name, in which case there's a host of other reasons for iTunes to split up the tracks (e.g., two different artist on the same album).  See iTunes & iPod Hints & Tips - Grouping Tracks Into Albums - http://www.samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/grouping.asp

Change the album title to AlbumX, apply, then change back to Album. Repeat as necessary.

  • How do I delete a huge number of duplicate albums from my itunes for mac library?

I have a huge itunes music library, over 900 GB, and as it turns out I have a huge number of duplicate albums.  Is there a way to automatically get rid of the duplicate albums so I am left with only one of each?  If not, what is the best way to identify and remove my library's duplicate albums?  Thanks!
    Cheers,
    Gerry

iTunes does not have any automated way of deleting duplicates.
You can identify the duplicates by
    View > Show Duplicates
    or
Alt + View > Show exact Duplicates
(or if you are on windows Shift+ View > Show Exact duplicates
There is a third party tol which is free to download and then register. Although the copy I tried worked fine as a trial download

  • Why do duplicate albums appear on my iPod Classic screen when there are no duplicates in my iTunes Library?

Why do duplicate albums appear on my i{Pod Classic screen when there are no duplicates in my iTunes Library?

It's probably going to be a capitalisation error. In other words, one or more tracks on the album has a lower case letter at the beginning of the album name while all the others have a capital letter. They can be difficult to spot.
In iTunes, examine one of your duplicated albums carefully. You should be looking for a slight difference between the album title name. Look at the screenshot below, can you see the error in the album title?
    It is there...
The title track (Left Of The Middle). Look at the capitalisation of the album name.
Once you find you error in your album, re-type it (or copy-and-paste from one track to all the tracks) and then SYnc your iPod to iTunes. Does that cure it? If nto, let us know.

  • Duplicate albums in cover flow

I keep getting duplicate albums on my ipod, I check the list and they only shows up once... But I still get several showing on the flow (all with the same songs)
    It BUGS me ;0

If you haved the album 'Songs For You, Truths For Me' by James Morrison where 'Broken Strings' features Nelly Furtardo and you set the 'Album Artist' field for each track to James Morrison then the album only appears once on the coverflow.
However, My Wife and I both have a 3rd Generation Nano, upload the files to both ipods and mine displays coverflow correctly, my wifes shows the album twice, once by James Morrison and once by James Morrison Feat. Nelly Furtardo. Uploading the same files to my sons 4th Generation Nano and coverflow shows the album only once (Correctly.) I have the latest v1.1.3 software on both 3rd generation nanos. I have even tried restoring my wifes to factory default settings. What is going on please?

  • Duplicate albums, deleted then later reappear

Have albums which duplicate themselves. I have deleted them using delete button, emptied trash, close iPhoto, and voila, they are back when I reopen iPhoto. Same album names, now there are duplicate albums.
    Power PC G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

One possibility to consider is a corrupt photo database. Start iPhoto while holding the option+shift keys until you're prompted to confirm you want to rebuild. Click Save in the next dialog, and let iPhoto rebuild.

  • When i syn with itunes i get duplicate album, how do i resolve it ?

How do you remove duplicate album and why doe it happen?

I have a similar problem. When I sync my iPod classic with iTunes 10, I have several albums that wind up appearing on my iPod's album list anywhere from two to six times each. The albums all appear correctly in iTunes -- they're not split into multiple albums, each with a few tracks. It's a complete duplication of the album.
For example, I have R.E.M.'s Automatic for the People album. It displays correctly in iTunes; I only see it once, all twelve tracks appear on a single album. When I sync to my iPod, I have three copies of the album, each with the same twelve tracks, same album art -- to all appearances completely identical to each other. I've removed the album from my sync list, gone through a sync, confirmed it was removed, then added it again with the same result -- three copies. I've removed the album from iTunes, synced, confirmed it was removed, then added it back into iTunes, synced again and once more, three copies of the album appear. I've made sure each track has their track number of total tracks, disc 1 of 1, checked through the sort tab -- I'm at a loss. I haven't found anything online to help at all.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Sharing to Facebook - Duplicate albums

When I am Sharing to Facebook and choose an album already created in Facebook,
the albums in the list duplicate each time I add a photo. Note that the list duplicates equally even though I add one photo to a particular album.
What can I do to fix duplicates in this list?

I've done a lot of reorganizing in both Facebook and Aperture and things just got out-of-whack. I rebuild the database etc. but I always had these duplicate albums showing.
It was this simple fix; Remove and re-add the Facebook account that worked. Thanks for the quick reply. Apple discussions are a wonderful tool with your good help.

  • IPhone 5C: Duplicate Albums and not capitalizing Artists?

Hello! I got my iPhone 5C for my upgrade on October 1st. My carrier is Sprint.
I've been trying to put my music back onto my phone that was previously on my iPod Touch, but there's a slight problem. I have an album duplication problem, as well as a capitalization problem.
As for the duplication, only one album is duplicated (I somehow fixed the other one), and it is only duplicated on my iPhone, not on iTunes. I'm positive the Artist and Album Artist are the same, as I'm a perfectionist and I want everything to be together, which is why this is bothering me so much. I've restored my iPhone 3 times and yet it's still duplicated, and I've taken the music on and off but with iOS 7 it's never really off, it just sits there and has the "Download from iCloud" button.
Whenever I play the songs in one of the duplicated albums, it says it's playing in the other album too. But I can also go through the songs of that album and play the first song in that album, go through the entire album, and then it'll play it again as if the album is on loop, but it's really just thinking there's two of the same album.
My capitalization problem is that for the band Blood On The Dance Floor, it thinks it's Blood On the Dance Floor. That really bothers me because that's not how it's supposed to be stylized but it won't change, even though on iTunes I have it written as Blood On The Dance Floor. Is there any way to fix this? Again, I have taken the music on and off and made sure that they're all written the way I want them to.
Any help is appreciated! Thank you.

In case anyone was wondering - I finally sorted this issue.
In iTunes, some of the files within the album had data input in some of the 'sort by' fields of the 'sorting' tab on their info - this led to the duplicate albums appearing in our phones - deleted the sorting data and voila, problem solved

  • IOS 5 and duplicate album issue.

I have an iPod Touch 4 64gb.  After upgrading to iOS 5, I have a few albums that are now duplicated in the iPod music player*.  When it's connected to iTunes, there are no duplcate albums in the music list; it's got exactly what I have on the syncing computer. While the iPod had iOS 4, it didn't have any of these duplicate album issues.
The iPod was 'reset' after upgrading the OS, so everything was freshly synced.  Also, I made sure that all the album information (artist, etc) was entered via selecting the whole album and using the 'get info' to enter it into all the tracks simulnateously, so there aren't any extra spaces in some tracks that might cause the software to see them as 'different albums' somehow.
I've also deleted the offending albums by using the 'sync manually' option, then reloading them onto the iPod, which then brings back the duplicate albums on the iPod (even though, again, the music list in iTunes shows the iPod as only having one copy).  And, if I start playing one track on one of the duplicates, pause it, go to the same track on the other duplicate, it picks up exactly where it paused on the first - so, again, its not actually duplicating tracks, justs the specific album particulars.
Just to reiterate: There were no duplicate entries in the iPod music app under iOS 4.  I didn't change any album info before updating.  The duplicate entries only started showing up after updating to iOS 5.
*The duplicate albums seem to have a missing track (with one having 3 missing tracks).  Again, I made sure to enter all the album information with all tracks highlit so they all got the exact same informaiton without spaces, extra characters, etc.

Okay, I solved this issue as far as my iPod is concerned.
I decided to re-rip one of the album sets having the issue (I wanted it as lossless on my PC anyway, so it was due).  Once it was ripped, I noticed that one of the tracks on the albums in the set was separated in iTunes, even though I'd made sure that the artist and album name were set using Get Info on all the tracks simultaniously.  Apparently, each of the tracks on the album was marked as part of a compellation (even though only 1 of the 8 tracks had its own entry in the cover carousel).  After unchecking that, it was back to one album in the carousel.  Synced to the iPod and no duplicate album anymore.
I checked the other album having the issue and 3 of the tracks had the compellation checkmark checked.  That album did *not* have separate entries in the carousel.  After deleting those checkmarks, deleting the album from the iPod and re-syncing, it now shows up properly.
So, in my case, it seemed that errant compilation entries was the issue, which is odd anyway, because I didn't check that at all.  It must have come from the album ID when they were ripped for some reason.

  • Ipod duplicates albums. All the same artist, same everything. How can I fix this?

Ipod duplicates albums. All the same artist, same everything. How can I fix this?
All the details are the same. In my itunes library it shows as ONE whole album. When I import it to my ipod classic 160 gb it duplicates it about 4 times; it's quite irritating. It does that for 2 albums in particular and I have no idea why. Please help! Thank you.

    Hi alondres,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Use the information in the following article to review the information in the iTunes database for the artist / albums you are having issues with.  Make sure the information you want is exactly the same in the artist and album fields.

    Editing Info
Each audio or video file in iTunes has several settings and tags that can be easily modified. These options can be accessed by selecting any file in the iTunes browser windows and selecting "Get Info" from the File menu. You can add song lyrics, artwork and set special playback options. The "Info" tab lets you edit information about the file including artist and album info.
Once you have updated the information, close the iTunes application on the computer.  Then reopen and resync to your iPod.

  • Duplicate songs duplicate albums?

Is it possible to show duplicate songs and duplicate albums?
I have 1371 duplicate songs, but some of those songs are different versions from different albums.
if not, it would be great if Apple could re-write the search feature so that we had a choice of listing duplicate songs/albums. Most of the duplicates that I have are on different albums.

I am having a slightly different problem with "Show Duplicate Songs" feature on the "Edit" menu. It is only highlighted/available when I select "Library" in the Source collumn. For some reason that feature is shaded/unavailable when I select my iPod mini or one of the playlist in my mini. Does anyone know if that is just the way it works, i.e. that feature only works for the entire library, or it something wrong with my software, i.e. it is suppossed to work with any source, or user error, i.e. I am a moron who doesn't know what I am doing and am making a simple mistake. Please help if you can. Thank you.

  • How to erase duplicate albums from my iPod touch

After syncing to my iPod Touch, I notice that some of the albums are on the device twice yet they are not on the iTunes library twice. How do I erase duplicate albums from my iPod?

Open the music app on you device, go to the album section, swipe over the album you want to erase and hit "delete", just like you do when deleting mails.

  • Problem with Composer info/Album Artist/ tags & duplicate albums

I recently re-organized my iTunes library, which is on a network drive in my home. Since everything had gotten moved to new directories, I deleted all the songs from my iTunes library and re-imported everything. I've never been much of a playlist person, nor did I do any ratings of songs, so I saw this as a reasonable solution.
Everything seemed fine -- Some artwork went missing after I imported everything, probably because iTunes no longer sells a few of the albums I have? Not really sure, but I fixed that, and then noticed that a few of my albums were showing up with duplicates in Cover flow & Grid view. More specifically, I found several albums with "Album Artist" info for the first two tracks of the album, and then nothing in that field for the rest of the tracks. Likewise, there would be composer info for ONLY the first two songs, and none for the rest.
What would cause this? Does iTunes supply composer info? I'm not even sure where it's coming from, but now that I notice it, it's bugging me that several of my albums don't have any info in this field. Album Artist is easy enough to fix, but I'm not sure how to fix the composer field. Does Genius change or import any info for these fields? I did notice this right after I ran Genius, and when I ran Genius, I did lose my internet connection in the middle of it downloading info, and had to restore it.
Most of my CD's were ripped using Exact Audio Copy, and track info came from it's built-in freeDB utility. I just find it really odd that I've got a couple dozen albums like this, out of about 12,000 songs, and only the first 2 tracks of each album have Composer and Album Artist info.
Any ideas how to fix this?

    Welcome to AD!
I think WMP did this to random tracks in my library. Nicely filling in Album Artist & Compser on some tracks, and removing the track x of y info (the y went missing) and putting weird '0000 0A540 0000 ....'comments in the comment field.
Interesting that it only happened on the first 2 tracks of these albums - it was completely random on my files.
iTunes doesn't update track info from the internet, but WMP does. I rarely use WMP and it happened right after a WMP update. I have since turned off the option for WMP to get info from the internet.
Anyway....to fix the Cover flow & Grid views in iTunes, you have to make the Album Artist field match.
Select all the tracks from a CD, right-click > Get Info.
Answer yes , you want to edit multiple items.
Type in the Album Artist field. You can do the Composer field while you're at it, assuming you like having that info there.
Maybe there is some MP3 tag editor that would be faster, but that's the only way to do it in itunes.
Or perhaps you have backups that don't have this mess in the tags.
