Duplicate applications list

I recently got a new iMac. I transferred everything from my old iMac via ethernet during the startup process.
Now, when I tried to email a link, using the "Share" function in Safari, it opens a second Mail on the dock. When I checked that Mail with "show in finder," it showed that I have a folder in Applications called "copy to Applications," which contains a duplicate list of my applications.
But if I select iMessage from the share list, it goes to the regular iMessage in the regular Applications folder.
In both iMessage and Twitter, if I click on a link, and I already have Safari open, the link opens in that Safari (from the Applications folder). But, if Safari is not open, they will open a second Safari on the dock from the "copy to Applications" folder.
I found on my old iMac (the one I transferred from), there is also a "copy to Applications" folder in Applications, but it is an alias, pointing to the actual Applications folder. Not an alias in the new iMac.
I tried putting the "copy to…." in the trash, but then those links result in a "can't find…" warning (or something like that). So I put it back.
What to do to stop things from looking for this "copy to…" folder?

Hi, I think you need to trash that copy to folder, then rebuild the Launch db...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions...
Reset Launch Services...

PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

Hi ...
I just noticed that the Application list in DTM shows duplicate entries of 3 of my apps on my 8230 ...
I was curious about what was listed, because I was investigating the phenomenon of MyWorld incorrectly showing the "trial" verions of 2 apps even though I have the purchased version of those apps ... plus ... I seem to have gone down from have 49M free to only 47M, and I wanted to see what was using up those add'l 2M ...
I'd like to be able to tell DTM to UNINSTALL those duplicate apps, but I want to check here first to make sure that actgion won't cause problems with those apps ....
Alternatively, is there anything like a DEFRAG'ing app available for the BB..? (I'm already using MemoryUp Pro v 3.5)
Does anyone have any similar experience(s) with a phenomenon like this ..?

I just attempted to remove 1 of the dup apps (fet safe in attempting this, because it was listed as a back-level version of the running app...); and the process never got to the REBOOT portion of the procedure ... so the app is still there ...
I've tried disconnecting / reconnecting the device (Win XP had it connected as offline storage, even though I selected NO on both the device and on the pc); but this didn't seem to help to remove the app either ...
So, I'm still curious about ways to address this ....

Duplicate programs listed in "Open With" menu

Whenever I control-click a file and want to select "Open With", there are duplicate programs listed. For example, if I want to open an AIFF file, QuickTime 7.6.2 shows up twice in the list along with iTunes, WaveBurner (a Logic Pro program) and other programs all showing up twice. Even another version of QuickTime (6.0.3) is listed.
Anyone else have ing this problem? Anyone know how to fix it? Thanks

E17 - Empty applications list in IBar/Favorite/Startup settings

Hi,
Recently I Installed fresh Archlinux system on my laptop. This time I wanted to try some lightweight WM so my choice was Enlightenment. Everything works perfectly on root but when I run WM from another (newly created) user I encounter some annoying trouble - there is empty applications list in IBar / Favorite / Startup Applications settings inspite of all installed apps are appearing in Main menu -> Applications.
I have no idea what causes problem, maybe wrong permissions? I tried deleting .e/ directory, and I also installed newest E17 snapshot from svn via arche17 AUR package but nothing has changed.
I also found possibly duplicate of this issue but there is no clues how to fix it.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that some of your applications are not appearing under Settings > Cellular on your iPhone so that you can restrict or allow use of cellular data. If you have some installed applications on your iPhone that are not showing here, the first troubleshooting step I would suggest would be to reset your iPhone. Please refer to the attached article for information on how to perform a reset.

Application list not showing in GoTo menu in 5130

When I try to add applications to the GoTo menu in 5130-c2, the application list (from Select Options) is not showing. Instead it hangs and I need to switch off my phone and restart. My software version is latest. Please help me solve this. I have installed applications both on phone and on memory card.

then execute the report , if you able tos see small grid in corner, u can dispaly internal table by using settable_for_first_display.

How to get installed application list from a remote system

i am using.. an windows XP OS.. i want to collect the installed application list(in any accessible format) from my near by system(any system in the network). and need to invoke any application (from the list generated) from my system.....

5800 no applications show up on Application List (...

I noticed today that when I tap on the Installed apps. option under Application Manager (under Settings), the screen will go "blank" (no icons or info, just the background wallpaper) for about 3 seconds then return to the Application manager screen. Thus, I don't have access to the options menu for the installed applications list (I was to modify the navigation button settings on Gmail).
It appears that several other people with the Nokia 5800 have this problem but I haven't found a solution. How did others fix this problem?

Restart phone and try to open "installed apps", don't run anything else. If still not working then uninstall any recenctly istalled apps, go to main menu>apps folder>options>organise>(single tap particular app)>options>remove Then try "installed apps"

How do I remove duplicate applications after installing Tiger 10.7.2?

After installing Lion 10.7.2 I have ten duplicate applications, all are applications that are generally included in MAC software (ie DVD playe, iChat, iTunes, Mail, etc.). How do I remove the duplicates? I tried deleting one from the folder where I generally kept it, then replaced it with the newer version that loaded with 10.7.2. However, that created a duplicate again.

I can (somewhat) speak for iChat.
iChat should always be kept in the Applications folder - so much so that it should not be put in any sub folder (I have heard of people putting it in an IM apps folder or lumping all Apple Apps in one folder).
This unfortunately causes problems in Updating (iChat gets updated from time to time in OS Updates) and in Upgrades (Such as moving to Lion) as the Apps are not "in the right place".

My "Choose Application" list of apps is replaced with iTunes list

I have a problem with something being corrupted in the "Choose Applications" dialog. Instead of a list of apps, there is a dropdown menu called "iTunes" and there is a list of songs where the application list should be. Has anyone seen this error, and is there a database file that I can check for corruption or replacement?

You should be able to change iTunes to whatever application that you want.
The next time you get the "Choose Application" dialogue, select the application in the list of application on your computer.
If that does not work, please post a screen shot of the window in question.

In cluster Manager there are no services and application listed on a node.. what does this mean?

In Cluster Manager I can see two nodes listed.
When I click on the first it lists the two SQL Server instances.
On the other node there are no services and application listed....what does this mean?

Yes Instance A and Instance B will also be installed in the second node.
Just go to configuration manager in the other node, you will see those instances in stopped state.
Assume I install Instance A in a 2 node cluster with node A and Node B, it installs instanceA binaries in both nodes, What it does when failover is shutdown Instance A in Node A, move the disks to node B and start the instance A in the node B. Its basically
the same instance.

Why the duplicate Applications folders and which one(s) can I trash?

I've tried to disregard the duplicate Applications folders on my HD and double Mail programs in my dock but would like to trash any I don't need (I'm the only user of my machine). I see that there's an Applications folder in my HD icon (under "Devices"); an Applications folder in my Finder window (under "Places"), and an Applications folder accessible by clicking on my name in the Finder window (also under "Places"). Although it appears there are 3 Applications folders / Mail programs, a search in Finder suggests there are actually 2: one is traceable to HD (hard disk); the other is traceable to my name. Which of these is "safe" to trash? (I don't understand why my Finder must contain two Applications folders--frequently resulting in the appearance of duplicate Mail programs in my dock. Any clarification/suggestions appreciated. Cap

Thanks. That helps me with the concept, and I see that there can only be one "real" Applications folder which is under Devices and labeled Macintosh HD. Perhaps what I'm trying to say is that the below that, in the Places area, the programs in the "Applications" of my "Home Folder" (the little house followed by my name) don't agree with the programs in the "Applications" folder right underneath it. The latter Applications Folder agrees with the one on my Hard Drive, it has the new iTunes program, etc. whereas the programs in the Applications Folder of my Home Folder are different (the old iTunes program, etc.). I guess I'm saying that the Applications Folders of my Hard Drive and of my Home Folder are at odds. I'm simply going to try following your idea--drag the Applications Folder from my Home Folder onto the desktop, replace it with the Applications Folder from my Hard Drive, then go through the eternity of trashing the old Home Folder Applications Folder

How to remove applications from "Selected applications" list?

I know how to delete applications from my iPhone 3G. I also understand that when I sync they will get restored on my phone if I have "Sync applications" checked and I choose the "All applications" radio button. If I want applications to "stay deleted," I need to choose the "Selected applications" radio button and make sure the ones I want to stay gone are un-checked.
How do I "fully delete" an application, so it is both (a) no longer on my phone and (b) no longer in the "selected applications" list?

Simple go to where it has your applications in the Application menu (not tab in iPhone sync options, but the menu on left) and delete it from there.
Say keep file when it asks if you want to delete it from your hard-drive if you at least want to keep it on your drive.
In summary, just remove it from iTunes but keep the file. Or if you want to fully get rid of it, let it delete it from drive too. Remember, you can always re-download and even if you paid for it, it will discover you already bought it and say you can re-download for free.

I need to restore YahooMail to the mailto: application list

I accidentally removed Yahoo from the mailto: applications list: options>applications.
I found instructions here: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/668267 for re-adding it to about:config but it hasn't gone from about:config.

You have to add your preferred email client to the Internet Options menu like this: 
#Open Microsoft Internet Explorer and then click '''Tools '''and go to '''Internet Options'''. 
#Click the ''Programs ''tab and where you see "Email", choose your email client. 
#Remove the checkmark from where it says "''Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default browser''" in the same menu. 
#Click Apply/OK and close Internet Explorer. 
#Next, start Firefox and click the orange Firefox button, go to '''Options '''| '''Options '''| '''Advanced'''. 
#In the '''General '''tab, '''System Defaults''' at the bottom, checkmark the option: "'''Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup'''" and then click the "''Check Now''" button. 
#Click OK, close Firefox and then restart it again.
You should be able to see Yahoo as an option in the Applications panel.

Duplicate accounts listed in System prefs

Ever since I transferred my admin account from my old Mac to the new machine (MPro 2.66) I've had duplicate accounts listed in the Users tab of the System Prefs. I have two legitimate accounts, my main account and another admin account; the main account is listed again 3 times under "Other Accounts", with the same photo and login info as the original account. They do NOT have folders in the Users folder however, so it's not like they're complete duplicates; they only appear in this panel. It's not affecting anything adversely, just wondering if I can delete them without affecting my account since all the name/login info is identical.

Be careful about deleting those duplicates. You might end up deleting your home directory. Make a backup of your machine just in case. If you are wiling to take some risk then proceed.
I played around with this and found that if you have more then one account pointing to the same home directory, then deleting any of the duplicate accounts will not impact the home directory.
However, one of those accounts must be the *Primary Owner* of that home directory and deleting that user will delete the *Home Directory*. Not quite what you want to have happen.
If you try to delete the Primary account you should get a prompt asking you what to do with the *Home Folder*.
Choose *"Do not change the home folder"*
That should preserve it incase you need to get that directory back.
The first think I would do is see if all the duplicates are using the same *Home Folder*
Open up Preferences
Open up Accounts
Ctrl-Click on one of the Duplicate Accounts and select *Advanced Options*.
Record the *Home Directory* for each of the accounts.
If they are the same, then you should be able to delete the duplicates without a problem. Again, if and when prompted, choose *"Do not change the home folder"*.
If the duplicate *Home Folder* point to a different location, then you just have to figure out which is your primary account and delete the duplicates. Again, I'd play it safe and save those home folders until I knew everything was working and there wasn't anything in those folders that I wanted. Once they are gone they are gone.
