Duplicate apps in Launchpad.

Hi, I have a duplicated app in Launchpad but it's not duplicated elsewhere on my system so I'm not able to delete it from Launchpad...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Tried some terminal stuff, and also restarting. Nothing.
I have launched the application via both icons so there's something weird going on..

They may be different versions of the same app. Click on each and make sure that you keep the most up-to-date version.  You can remove the older versions by clicking and holding on an icon, they will all shake and have a big X in the upper right hand corner, clicking on the X will remove the app, both from Launchpad and your app folder.

  • Why do I have duplicate Apps in Launchpad

I just installed Lion this morning and really like the interface. It is really nice.
I have duplicate icons for things like Address Book, App Store, Calculator, iCal, etc.
Is there a way to remove the duplicates?

  • How can I delete an app from launchpad, that doesn't have the little cross in the left top corner. The app isn't an App Store app. The application is also not present anymore in my application's folder in finder.

I tried to use the attached command through TERMINAL :
    sqlite3 ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dock/*.db "DELETE from apps WHERE title='Help';" && killall Dock
sqlite3: Error: too many options: "DELETE from apps WHERE title='Help';"
Use -help for a list of options.
But i didn't work as I got the above error message.

I'm in the same boat as you -- except that I manage both a school lab (volunteer job) and macs in the enterprise (pay job).  What I think we need is the Education Volume Purchasing Program
    http://www.apple.com/education/volume-purchase-program/faq.html
Unfortunately this all seems a little rough around the edges -- for example, I have found updates for AppStore apps on the support.apple.com updates download site, but then when I install them via ARD they don't actually update the software.  (The AppStore icons still show as needing the updates, and the version info reports the old version.)  The documentation is also vague about which AppleID to use in which circumstance.  I think they just haven't finished thinking through the implications of the various procedures and policies upon the various kinds of customers.  When we deployed Mountain Lion on the school lab, we made an install usb and went around and installed it on each computer -- and it appears that you are on the honor system as far as paying for all of the licenses that you install.  We did!  But they appear to have no way to enforce it.
So far, I have only deployed 9 Lion macs in my day job, and our "solution" to the AppStore showing updates problem has been to drag the AppStore icon off of the users' docks so they don't see them!

  • How to Add and Remove Apps from Launchpad?

I have noticed that I have apps missing in launchpad that I do have in my apps folder.
How do I add these to launchpad.
On the flip side, then how can I remove apps from launchpad that I hardly ever use?

Did you check the second page of Launchpad?
Click the second white dot in the bottom middle of the Launchpad screen.
Hope  information from these articles helps.

  • Exclamation Point & Duplicate App Icon - iTunes App Screen

I just did a sync of my iPhone 3G. In iTunes in the Apps screen on my PC some of the App icons have been duplicated and there is an exclamation point in front of them. So:
    1) What does this mean?
    2) How do I correct it with minimum muss & fuss?
**Please note: due to previous bad encounters with 0S4 I *will not* be installing it, so please don't suggest that. Furthermore, since iTunes 9.2 will not function properly without OS4, I am using iTunes 9.1.1. (See my previous post regarding issues with iTunes 9.2 & my 3G iPhone.)
    Thanks,
    ~TT~

Right clicking on the duplicate with the exclamation point brings up a pull down menu that says:
    - Get Info
    - Show in Windows Explorer
    - Delete
Get info = The Application "name of application" could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" It then brings up the location if you continue on.
Meanwhile it now seems that MOST of the duplicate App icons have this duplicate with the !, while a couple just seem to be duplicates.
Again, I'm wondering as to the cause of this & how to correct it without having to do major stuff.
    Thanks,

  • Duplicate apps launching

In Mavericks 10.9.5 I've been having duplicate copies of apps launching. I've noticed it w/Mail & Acrobat Pro. Don't know what causes it - can't duplicate it intentionally, just noticed that it's been happening lately.

I got duplicate apps in iTunes too, but I'm still on 10.5. It copied everything on my iPhone 3.0.1 onto the computer when I synced this morning.
I do sync my desktop with my 10.6 laptop, though, so there's a possible way for Snowy stuff to act up.

  • Duplicate Apps. when upgrading.

When I upgraded from 10.2 to 10.4, I copied my home folder to another hard-drive. I was not sure how the upgrade was going to change my current files. Well I new to computers and didn't want to lose anything.
While I did not lose anything my extra hard drive is a mess , I've been cleaning out sense. My question is , I copied some iLife apps into the folder. iMovie,iPhoto,Garage Band, and I was wondering if it is safe to delete these duplicate apps, and / or, do I need an uninstaller to properly do this.
There the same version, but have different file sizes? for example :
iMovie on System Drive - 53.9MB
iMovie on Other Drive - 47.6
    Thanks
    John

Before I upgraded I copied my Home Folder to the HD 2 , I can't be sure but most likely I also copied my iLife Apps there also.
Since you're not sure you copied the apps separately, we still need to be certain that there weren't any duplicate app copies in your home folder before you copied it over, in which case they could still be there. Look in your current home folder, on HD1, and be sure you don't see them there. You might also download [EasyFind|http://www.devon-technologies.com/products/freeware/index.html], looking again for duplicates of those apps elsewhere on HD1 than in /Applications.
With regard to re-installing OS X now, I think that was suggested because it seemed originally as if you did have duplicate apps on your startup disk. Hopefully that is not the case, but we need to know that for sure, as suggested above. Perhaps Cornelius will come by to comment further.
If there aren't any app duplicates on HD1, then I think you are OK. I think it should then also be OK to delete those backup copies on HD2, since 1) "everything is working fine" on the startup disk (did you actually test those apps?) , 2) those copies are not the same size as the originals and may be defective, and 3) those particular apps might have to be re-installed from an installer anyway rather than just dragged back into /Applications.
Everything is working fine , but I just want to free up some space , my computer feels very bogged down.
This again isn't clear to me - is HD2 being used for anything other than inactive backup files that are just sitting there?
At the end of the day, you want to have a recent backup copy of anything that you don't want to lose. If HD2 is used only to backup HD1 then that is fine, though going forward it would be desirable to have a better way to do it than just dragging the home folder there. Many people use cloning software. If HD2 contains important material that is not on HD1, however, then you need additional external storage to back up both HD1 and HD2.

  • Removing apps from Launchpad

I'm trying to remove some apps from launchpad.  I can't find them in the applications folder or anywhere with finder.  Tried dragging them to Trash but they just 'fly' back to the Launchpad.  Any ideas?

Have you tried using Spotlight to search for them? You can try using one of these programs.

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion, and Launchpad was working fine, but then as I was editing my apps within launchpad, suddently the option to delete apps or edit folders withing Launchpad went away. The little "x's" just dissappeared.
I'm still logged in as an admin and everything, I rebooted to no effect.
    Any suggestions?

I have to press and hold "Option" or click and hold on any app.

  • How do get rid of a duplicate app

Have somehow got two Iphoto applications on my computer. One is empty and the other is the one holding my photo's. Can someone please tell me how i can delete the unwanted duplicate app.
        Thank you.

Please explain exactly what you have and what you are seeing
If you actually have a duplicate iphoto application (an IPhoto-2 or other similar name) in your applications folder then just trash it
But I suspect that is not what you are seeing -and since we only know what you tell us and answer at this time is only a guess and might use loss of photos

  • How to add an App to launchpad from applications

my iPhoto is gone from launchpad due to the fact it had a huge grey question mark on it and it would not function as an App in launchpad only applications in finder..
how to put an app in launchpad...
2nd try at trying to get this answerered..

Oops, sorry. In #1 I meant to say, "Can you successfully launch _iPhoto_ from its icon in the Applications folder?"
The reason I suggested my two steps is that I've seen situations where Migration Assistant had been run (after the purchase of a new computer and a subsequent data transfer) where iPhoto did indeed seem confused when opening it from the Dock. After running it from the Applications folder, it would then successfully open when selected in the Dock. I thought that a similarly successful launch of iPhoto from the Applications folder may indeed help the problematic launching from Launchpad.
As babowa said, icons are automatically added to launchpad. However, Launchpad only references the Applications folder (as I recall). If iPhoto had been moved from /Appllications, then _perhaps_ a question mark may have been present or remained in Launchpad. And a simple restart can often correct such oddball behavior.

  • Starting apps from launchpad stops working

This issue is intermittent. All of a sudden, when I try to start an app from Launchpad nothing happens. But I am able to start apps via the Dock.
This happens on my Macbook Air but not on my Mac mini, although both have Yosemite. I have tried doing a clean install but the issue continues. Restarting fixes the issue. I am not aware of what triggers this to start. It appears to be random. Everything is working fine and then all of a sudden I can no longer start apps from Launchpad.
Through searching I can't seem to find any evidence of this occurring to anyone else.
    Cheers

So I just now had an occurrence of the app-starting in Launchpad issue. I tried the terminal commands. I entered both commands. After the second one "killall Dock", screen went black except for the menu bar and the terminal window. I didn't see anything else happening so then I selected Restart from the apple menu.
So effectively, I ended up doing a restart as I have done before which resets the problem anyway. Whether or not the issue has been resolved permanently by issuing these commands is another question and will take time to get any certainty about.
But the person who found these commands was having a different type of problem with the Launchpad in Yosemite, so I'm not sure about this. I am tempted to try a clean reinstall of Yosemite, but this time doing absolutely no restoring of any user files with Time Machine/Migration Assistant in case that carries over some bad setups. I will only make manually copied backups of any user files that I want to carry over.
    Cheers
