Duplicate artists appearing on my ipod

I'm getting the same artist appearing five times under my ipod Artist menu. Whichever one of these I select I get the same identical full catalogue of tunes for that given artist that I have stored on my ipod. I've reinstalled itunes, I've restored my ipod but nothing sorts this problem. I've also tried deleting the relevant tracks from itunes and then adding them again but this does not resolve the issue. Has anybody else experienced this phenomena? It only happened for the first time yesterday and is a bit mysterious.

You need to make sure the artist name is spelt in an identical manner on every track. Even an extra space at the end of the name that you might not notice can make a difference. Try this even if everything looks the same. Sort your iTunes library by artist to bring your tracks together. Click on the first track by your artist, hold down the shift key and click on the last track in the list, this will highlight all in between. Right click on the list and choose Get Info, you get a dialogue box asking if you want to update multiple items, click Yes and then the Info tab. Overtype the artist name then click ok and this will ensure the whole selection is identical. Once you've done this connect your iPod, if you are updating automatically it will pick up the changes.

  • Why do duplicate albums appear on my iPod Classic screen when there are no duplicates in my iTunes Library?

Why do duplicate albums appear on my i{Pod Classic screen when there are no duplicates in my iTunes Library?

It's probably going to be a capitalisation error. In other words, one or more tracks on the album has a lower case letter at the beginning of the album name while all the others have a capital letter. They can be difficult to spot.
In iTunes, examine one of your duplicated albums carefully. You should be looking for a slight difference between the album title name. Look at the screenshot below, can you see the error in the album title?
    It is there...
The title track (Left Of The Middle). Look at the capitalisation of the album name.
Once you find you error in your album, re-type it (or copy-and-paste from one track to all the tracks) and then SYnc your iPod to iTunes. Does that cure it? If nto, let us know.

  • Duplicate songs appeared on my iPod touch 5g IOS 7.1.2, after synced with a new windows laptop, some duplicates open, some dont.

Hi, i have an iPod touch 5g with IOS 7.1.2. .My iPod was synced to a previous laptop with my songs and i got a new laptop with the copied songs, i put them on iTunes 11 and synced it to my iPod and duplicates appeared in the music app on most of the songs. Some of the duplicates open and some turn grey when i play them. I have deleted all of the duplicates on iTunes, but they dont dissapear after i sync them. I cant delete the duplicates that appear grey, but i can delete the rest. Please help, i have no idea how to fix it.

Well, you could trade it in for a white one!
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

  • Duplicate Artists and Titles problem ipod w video

Hi all, I haven't seen this problem listed and I went back 6 pages. I've noticed that there are a lot of artists that are listed twice in my ipod, but songs are listed once. For example, I xfered a cd into itunes, and then highlighted and drug it to my ipod. Well in itunes, everything looks fine, as in the artist is listed only once and all the songs are there. But on my ipod the artist is listed twice, and 1 heading will have 1 song by the artist that was added at the same time as the others, and the other same artist heading will have the rest of the songs on the CD. This so far has happend for CDs as wells as downloaded music frm the net.
Another question...is there anyway to access itunes store w/o downloading the software (like a web version or something?) B/c I'm online at work and cant download the software here, but want to poke around and see what they have for sale there.
    Thanks!

The artist are normally listed twice if you have included a break after the artist name on some songs. In iTunes, try to highlight all songs by the artist that comes up twice and then right click and choose show info. The put in the artist name and nothing else for the multiple songs. Next time you update your iPod it should come out right.

  • Methods to turn multiple artist songs into 1 artist for search on ipod/itun

I am trying to take some of my CDs with songs that have multiple artists and only have the main artist appear on my iPod when I go to Music->Artists.
For example: 50 Cent; most of his songs have multiple artists.
On my iPod when I go to Music->Artists I see
    50 Cent/Olivia
    50 Cent/Tony Yayo
    50 Cent; Eminem
    50 Cent; Eminem; Lloyd Banks
    etc...
I want all these songs to only be under their main artist being 50 Cent. I would like to go to Music->Artists and see only 50 Cent instead of this list of artists.
There is a solution to this where you just swap the Artist field with the Album artist so you still retain the multiple artist information. I am anal and would like to keep the fields how they are, is there a way around this?
I would also prefer a fast method as I do not like having to select one song at a time and going to getInfo to change swap the fields.

Have you had a look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: Why aren't songs with the same album art grouped together

  • The "Cover Flow" / "Album Artist" duplicate albums problem on the iPod

    Hi Guys,
I've made some research about this issue and got to some interesting conclusions.
    DISCLAIMER:
    1. I searched the web and found people describing this problem since 2006 till 2009 and the solution always revolved around not using the "Artist" and the "Album Artist" tags like they should be used.
    2. I did a lot of testing, including re-writing the ID3 tags in different versions and formats to rule out any issues around the tags themselves.
    3. If the stuff I'm going to describe is already well known than sorry about that, I just couldn't find it anywhere.
    PROBLEM:
An album that has a single Album Artist and different Artists appears several times in the iPod Cover Flow although it looks just fine in iTunes.
Tagging the tracks as "Part of a Compilation" only partially solves the issue since the album will appear in the iPod Cover Flow as a Compilation showing up in the end and not together with the "Album Artist" like in iTunes and like it should.
It seems to be a simple issue around the way the iPod uses the "Album Artist" tag but it also seems to be around forever and it's strange Apple hasn't looked into it.
    RESEARCH:
Since I just bought a new iPod Classic, I was again looking into this issue and now I was getting annoyed, strangely the behaviour wasn't the same for all the albums that were suffering from the problem. I found that when the Artist was a combination of, for example:
    Album - AlbumX
    Album Artist - ArtistX
    Track 1 - ArtistX
    Track 2 - ArtistX Feat. X
    Track 3 - ArtistX
    Track 4 - ArtistX Feat. Z
Track 10 - ArtistX Feat. XYZ
In the iPod Cover Flow I got ONLY TWO different albums, one with "ArtistX" and another one with "ArtistX Feat. X".
Well, this was very different from the normal behaviour when the artists are all completely different, in which case you get X amount of albums according to the X amount of different artist names you have.
    CONCLUSION:
It seems to have something to do with the dot ".", I reached the conclusion that for Artist interpretation in the iPod when the Artist tag has a dot "." then it stops interpreting. That means that if you had a "." after the main artist name than it will show only once, like in the above example:
    Album - AlbumX
    Album Artist - ArtistX
Track 1 - ArtistX. <---- NOTICE THE DOT
    Track 2 - ArtistX. Feat. X
    Track 3 - ArtistX.
    Track 4 - ArtistX. Feat. Z
Track 10 - ArtistX. Feat. XYZ
Then in the iPod Cover Flow it will show up only once as AlbumX - ArtistX.
I prefer to use the dots instead of just removing all the "Featurings and similar" since I can still see it normally if I play the track.
So, in the end, a combination like this in your "Artist" tag: "Album Artist"."Artist" would solve the problem in the iPod.
I would love for Apple to solve this issue and I hope this helps.
Has someone else noticed this or am I going crazy?
    Thanks!

sometimes the official title of a release does include the Feat. Guest info.
Yes, but only in some (or many) cases. There seems to be no consistency here, as if Apple were paying no attention about where to put "feat. guest". And I guess most of the data in CDDB (Gracenote) still have "feat. guest" in Artist (correctly, in my opinion).
I quite agree that your workaround is the best workaround. I'm just too self-willed (obstinate?, I don't know the correct English) and don't want to pollute my Library with "wrong" data. Most of the problems would simply be solved if, just if Apple make iPods sort/group artists as iTunes do. Sorry but this is how I feel. I guess you can't help people like me. Thank you for your patience.
Anyway, we need a clear document from Apple describing what are the intended uses of various tags, and iTunes/iPods should obey this document. It seems for me that each Apple engineer is doing just what (s)he wants to do, without any guidelines.

  • Songs dont appear under the artist name on the ipod....

When i put a song on itunes, it appears under the artist and the song name but when i look for it on my iPod under the artist name, it doesnt show up. Where is the song?

I went to that link but it doesnt seem to help. In itunes I have made sure that the song title, album and artist name are already in there with the correct spelling etc. In itunes all the info is there. When I look for the artist in my ipod it doesn't show up. I can find the album and the individual songs but the artist is not there.
Also...Songs in my itunes have all been organized and did the "get info" thing but some of the same artist appear several times on my ipod. I made sure everything is spelled correctly and the same for the same artist name, I have done resets and restore on the ipod, I deleted all the music out of itunes and then reinstalled it but I am still having the problem with certain artists...not all of them just randomly some. And it is continuing to happen with some new mp3s I am adding. What is going on with that???
Any help would be greatly appreciated...I have only had my ipod 3 weeks!!! If there is something wrong with it I want to return it and get a new one or is it user error?
Thanks to anyone that can help.

  • Artists not appearing on my ipod

Any idea why parts of my library can only be found on my ipod classic 80gb by song title and album, but not by artist?
The song information correctly displays on my itunes library on my computer, but when it syncs to the ipod sometimes the artist won't appear in my list of artists. I can then go and find it by song or album, so I know the information made it onto the ipod.
Very strange and annoying since I mainly listen by artist as the mood strikes me.
    Thanks

That advice brought me great joy, improved karma, a general sense of well being, and a deeper understanding of fluid dynamics in pressurized enviroments, which was completely unexpected.
Seriously, about 400 artists reappeared on my ipod after I changed the tags and then mass removed the compilation designation from all songs.
Apple's desicion to change the Ipod software and prevent artists from showing up in your ipod who's songs are considered part of a compilation is very puzzling. It's a silent issue that I took me a long time to even notice.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Itunes duplicates artists

In an effort to clean up my collection, I'm finally going through artist by artist, album by album, and culling the dupes, getting the right artwork, and matching up all album information correctly.
While this is working okay, iTunes has started to act really wonky.  It will duplicate artists names in the column browser, sometimes even for the same album.  When I select all the tracks by that artist and enter the name (either again, or sometimes making a phoney name and then renaming correctly) about half the time it consolidates things correctly.  The other half I still end up with, say two "Cannonball Adderly"s, with different albums but the same exact name.
Worse, sometimes (like in the case of poor Cannonball) the name is placed incorrectly in the browser.  For some reason Apple thinks that "Cannonball" is both a name and an article, like "The" (as in "The Beatles" where it will place it among the "B"s instead of the "T"s, which is how it should).  Cannonball gets placed both in the "C"s and then, inexplicably, in the "A"s as well.
I've got the latest iTunes, have tried installing and reinstalling, and have even removed the music and reloaded it, all with no improvement.  Also, on this note, I find that when I change the MP3 tags outside of iTunes (using Picard, for example) iTunes seems to have a "buffer" where it still doesn't read the meta information properly until I do a "Get Info".  So I assume it's *possible* there's still a weird buffer out there I'm not removing, even on reinstallation (perhaps something in the iTunes library file itself).
My next step is to indeed wipe out that library file, but I don't want to do this lightly as it may mean a lot more work for me (will it?  Isn't the ratings and most album art matches stored there?  While I suppose the matches will be done again automatically, my ratings certainly won't).  Any other ideas?

Hmm, have to say that recent builds of iTunes seem to have made that script less effective. Tapping next as each track starts to play might now be the most effective way of getting iTunes to pick up third party tag changes.
Deleting and reimporting, while it works, means the loss of ratings, play counts, playlist membership, date added info. etc. so should be avoided if possible.
Now Mike, back to Cannonball Adderly...
Sort fields will be responsible for his name appearing in the As as well as the Cs.
Part of compilation can make some albums not appear where they are expected.
A weird "feature" of the search box at the top right of the screen when using the Album List view is that it only searches fields that are visible in the List view. Often a smart playlist can be used to gather together items that won't play ball.
Inconsistencies between sort values for the same thing, or additional spaces in the main fields, can make what look like identical values appear listed as two or more.
iTunes is generally case insensitive, but various iPod firmware isn't.
Occasionally iTunes even refuses to merge two values when both have been edited to some new value. Closing and reopening iTunes usually fixes that one.
I have a two-year old outstanding bug report on the failure of iTunes to resort the Artists browser column in "Use Album Artists" mode after changes to the Album Artist/Sort Album Artist field. Again closing and reopening iTunes usually resolves that one.
See my article on Grouping tracks into albums for gory details.

  • Artists appearing under incorrect letter

I have an iPod Touch 3rd generation that's currently on iOS 5.1.1
Well I just added a new compilation album and as I was browsing for Artists under the Artists tab I noticed that the last named artist on the list appear as the first artist under the next letter.  For example Utah Saints should be the last artist to appear under 'U' but they now appear as the first artist under 'V', and
the last artist to appear under 'V' is Vivienne Lu but that artist appears as the first artist under 'W'. I've only just discovered this so I have no idea how long my iPod has been doing this.
I've found a few discussions dating from 2011 and 2012 with people having the same problem but the threads have been left unresolved.
    Is there a solution now?
    Thanks in advance

It's normal. Because that video file is also an audio file, it shows up under songs, artists, etc., just as any music file would. (And the entries aren't "duplicates," if I'm understanding you correctly. The file is only on your iPod once, it's just accessible from several different menus.) If you want to express to Apple your displeasure with this feature in iTunes, Google Apple feedback iTunes and send them feedback through the form.

  • Why do Outlook calendar invites appear on my iPod touch calendar but not my icloud calendar

Why do Outlook calendar invites appear on my iPod touch calendar but not my iCloud calendar? I use Outlook at work and if I want to add events to the calendar on my iPod Touch which I use as a PDA I simply create the event in outlook select my gmail email address and invite myself. The event appears on my iPod Touch...all well and good...now with the advent of iCloud I would like to see all events on my iPod calendar on the iCloud calendar that I view on my PC. At the moment only events that I have added directly onto the iPod calendar appear on the iCloud calendar.
I have messed around abit syncing and unsyncing, Turning the Calendar on and off in the iCloud setting on the device but nothing is really working. Any easy to follow suggestions or is it a trip to the geniuses in order?

Not sure why you'd want to alter an artist name anyway but...
In iTunes, right-click selected track and click "Get Info" then edit the artist field and possibly the album artist too (edit as in... make sure they have a value (the correct artist name)). Delete the faulty track on your iPod and then re-upload the new one.
Another thing is that if you left the music player open on your iPod when you add the new track, sometimes I find that it doesnt find any of the new songs you add until you close and then re-open the app on the iPod.
