Duplicate attachments in OSX 10.2

Hi,
I'm having an issue with attachments in Mail for Mac OSX 10.2 (Panther). When I attach 1 file to the message, the recipient seems to receive 2 files -- the correct file, as well as a smaller file that cannot be opened. I did some research and found out that this could be something called a "resource fork," and in OSX 10.4 (Tiger), this can be fixed by selecting "send Windows-friendly attachment." Is there any possible way to do this in 10.2? Thanks for your help!

Another factor that might be causing this, is having saved to include a preview (thumbnail).
What version of Photoshop product are you using? In full PS, and most other variants you can choose to save those photos without any thumbnail, or without any MacIntosh thumbnail. In the Preferences for PS, in File Handling, there should be options to save without any image preview, or specify type of preview/thumbnail. It is likely the MacIntosh thumbnail that is causing the duplicate file name attachment. Save for Web, under File, will also save in a manner most likely to be "friendly" to the PC having this problem with your photos. Save for web would not require you to change preferences.
Other info saved in the metadata, includes the EXIF (time, date, settings) from the camera, and may also be problematic to some, but not all Windows based mail clients. Save for Web removes that, as well.
I make extensive use of the Browser feature in Graphic Converter to send photos in convenient sizes, stripped of all metadata, without having to store an additional copy. You can also use iPhoto in a similar way, but some versions, operating in 10.2, present other problems when sending to PCs.

Removing a duplicate attachments prior to converting to PDF?

I am creating PDF portfolios using email that requires archiving, these emails reside in Lotus Notes. Attachments are in the body of each email and once the file is converted, it will also appear just below the subject matter which then adds a duplicate to the portfolio. Is there a way to removing duplicate attachments prior to converting each file to a PDF?
Does anyone know about a Plug-in that will help me with the above task or is there something in Adobe that will work?

I don't think that your old, duplicate feed is really going to cause much confusion. Whatever support told you to do, I think it is working . . . if you click on the "QuoteActions Podcast," it says that the podcast "is not available in the US Store." That means that no one can subscribe to it, and that the iTunes staff are probably in the process of completely removing the listing.
So, I really wouldn't worry too much that the second one is showing up in searches at this point. No one can access it, and so no one can accidentally subscribe to it. By the way, the address for your new podcast listing is actually http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=267448487. The one that you had in your post is just the address of your old podcast.

As Allan Eckert points out, through OS X 10.6.8, Snow Leopard both PowerPC (PPC) and Intel software could be run on an Intel Mac like yours.
Since we don't know which Mac you have, we don't know if Snow Leopard can run natively on your computer in a second partition or on an external drive. Hi,
It may be the mail scanner that caused the attachments duplicate issue, please disable your the Anti-virus and especially the mail-scanner module to check the result.
In some way, it may be caused by a corrupted profile, we may create a new one to verify that:

Can you delete duplicate apps from OSX HD?

In OSX HD I have followed the procedure to never delete or modify any installation. Deletion and modification was routine in OS 7, 8 and 9. I have 4 duplicate OSX HD applications. Why the older version was not deleted during installation of a newer version, I do not know. In com.apple.SyncServices.Apple Mobile Sync, I have AppleMobileSync v 1 and v 3; In org.python.PythonLauncher, I have PythonLauncher v 2. 5. 4 and 2. 6. 6; in com.tcltk.wish I have wish v 8. 4. 19 and v 8. 5. 7; in net.sourceforge.wxperl, I have wxPerl v 1 installed twice. Can the older versions be deleted?

Have you moved any applications?
If you move them out of your /Applications folder, installing new versions probably won't delete the old ones.

GOS - check for duplicate Attachments

Fianlly i managed it to add a URL to GOS in my abap program
i used the following FMs
CALL FUNCTION 'SO_FOLDER_ROOT_ID_GET'
CALL FUNCTION 'SO_OBJECT_INSERT'
CALL FUNCTION 'BINARY_RELATION_CREATE'
So what i do is running an abap report in a batch job which adds me the necessary urls.
Now i need to now how i can check for duplicates in the gos. In particular check if this link is already there or not?

How do I stop duplicate attachments showing up on sending Mail?

I've just started using Mail, and find that attachments embed themselves in the message I want to send as well as as an attachment. On the other end the document appears to have two attachments, one of which won't open. (Word document, recipient using Windows). Same when I send to myself.
Also, when I send and receive photos, they are embedded in the message, as well as attached. I want to disable the embedding feature. Can anyone tell me how?

The attachments are not embedded. It is called inline or viewed in place which is different.
When attaching image/photo attachments and smaller PDF attachments (1-2) pages, these type of attachments are shown inline or viewed in place within the body of the message by default which cannot be turned off - when sending and receiving.
You can control-click on a viewed in place attachment and select View as Icon. Regardless, all Mail.app attachments are sent as true attachments to the message.
Depending on the recipient's email client and available preference settings, such attachments may appear inline or viewed in place with the message is opened by the recipient (as with the Mail.app) or as attached files only which must be opened separately for which we have no control over.
I prefer this feature since it ensures that I have selected the correct image/photo attachment before the message is sent and I always add all attachments after I've finished composing the message below all text.
You can use a 3rd party Mail.app plugin called Mail Attachments Iconizer which can be downloaded at the following link.

Regarding the two attachments that appear, the extra attachment is the Apple resource fork for the file which is invisible to fellow Mac users. This doesn't occur with all Windows users since it depends on the Windows version and email client and version the recipient is running.
Beginning with Panther (10.3), the Mail.app includes a send Windows Friendly Attachments feature.
Check Windows users have problems with files I send and be sure to include the filename extensions, such as .doc, in the names of all files you send to Windows recipients. This way the files can be read by a Windows application.

I am considering using bootcamp by installing a windows disc version of vista that i had on my now defunct dell inspiron 1721 laptop to use for the occasional use of windows only games
My questions being
1) Will the dell disc work on my imac? and if it doesnt what are the potential pitfalls of trying such an installation
2) Will i be able to also install a version of windows enterprise blue version 2007 that i also obtained for using on the above machine also?
3) Is it possible to buy an external hard drive and attempt the installation on that rather than directly onto the imac
apologies for being so cautious but having a trouble free imac for the last six months or so has been the best purchase i have ever made after almost ten years of windows nightmares!! and therefore would not want to put my mac at major risk for the sake of playing a few games via bootcamp and using the odd word document

Generally speaking it is wrong to use any Windows disk that was not purchased specifically for your Mac. I've seen warnings posted here over the years against using a Dell (or other same type) disk and I've also seen people post success. Try the search function. From my own knowledge, if you launch Boot Camp Assistant and follow the BC install directions with precision then you cannot possibly hurt your Mac installation. This is assuming of course that you don't lose the ability to boot to OSX in the first place - a very rare problem. Keep a Time Machine or other duplicate of your OSX install just in case. Anyway - if your Windows install fails, you simply boot to OSX, launch Boot Camp, erase the partition (Restore Disk To A Single Volume) and you are good as new. Beware, though, there are current unaddressed issues in BC regarding the downloading of MS install drivers that are only well-explained on this message board. You should read these boards thoroughly to understand them since Apple has not issued a fix yet (AFAIK). The short version is that when BC Assistant asks you to download a file to burn a CD, lie and say you have already done so. Then use your Apple OSX install DVD after your Windows install is ready for Apple drivers. For my own Windows install I purchased the OEM low-cost (no support) Vista disk. If you browse around on line regarding OEM useage, it is a bit a user-agreement gray zone leaning towards the vendor and purchaser seemingly in the clear (provided they stick to the OEM rules) (Just my own personal current ever-evolving understanding of things). OEM might be the better option - who knows if MS will officially activate your Dell install after all that work? Just sayin...

After update to OSX 10.9, Mail won't send attachments

Since upgrading to Mavericks (OSX 10.9), Mail (7.0) won't send email attachments using my employer's MS Exchange account. All other messages (without attachments) send just fine, and no Exchange server or account settings were changed. Attachments send just fine via the exchange web application, so it's not an account or mailbox size issue. The problem happens even with small attachments (I just tried one that was 173 kb).
After I hit send, the activity window says "adding message" for a time, then an error comes up "Cannot send message using the Exhange server" then give me an option to use my gmail or icloud which work fine.
Any ideas?

I actually was able to solve the issue using some info gleaned from other posts. I think it had to do with some exchange account settings from a prior version of Mail that were still on my machine and interfering with the new Mail app. Here's what I did to fix the issue.
Make sure I had a good backup in Time Machine (including system settings) in case something goes wrong
Delete Exchange account using "system preferences > internet accounts"
Close Mail
Show hidden files
Terminal command: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
Terminal command: killall Finder
Using Finder, locate and delete the file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Using Finder, locate and delete the folder(s) and all their contents: ~/Library/Mail/V2/EWS-(your exchange acct info)I actually had a couple of these "EWS" folders in there from prior times that I had setup my exchange account. Not sure why ... I just deleted them all.
Empty the recycle bin
Reboot the computer
Hide hidden files (not necessary, it's just my preference)
Terminal command: defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
Terminal command: killall Finder
Open "system preferences > internet accounts" and setup Exchange account as if it were the first time.
It took a while for all my mailboxes to rebuild and everything to come in, but after the initial sync, Mail 7.0 now works perfectly with my Exchange account including sending mail with file attachments. It's actually a lot quicker to receive and send than the prior version of Mail.
It doesn't seem like a widespread problem, but I hope this at least helps you (eprasek) with your issue. Best of luck!

Firefox crashes, even in safe mode, when I try to add attachments in Yahoo mail -- running Mac OSX 10.4.11, FF 3.6.16.

Firefox has consistently crashed when adding attachments in Yahoo mail. For a while Firefox would crash immediately when I clicked "attach." Then, for a while it would allow me to upload files if they were located in a folder that the Yahoo mail application opened when I clicked "attach," but if I tried to navigate to a different folder, I would crash when I clicked on the root user folder. I then updated Flash and tried Firefox in safe mode, and now Firefox (in safe mode or not) is again crashing as soon as I click attach in Yahoo mail. My system is as above, Mac OSX Tiger (10.4.11) on an original Mac Pro, all stock parts (I had added some aftermarket RAM but removed it some time ago, before these crashes started). Firefox does NOT generate a crash report dialog when I restart.

can't make much of this crash log but try this. when you get to the smtp server page in setup assistant hold option while clicking "create" or 'continue". this will skip the actual server validation and might prevent crashing.

I made a duplicate copy of an imovie HD project and when I updated the titles on the copy, the video stuttered . I'm using Snow Leopard OSX. The length of the movie increased unexpedtedly too.

I made a duplicate of an imovie HD project so I could have two different versions. I tried making the copies both by using File> Duplicate and the Save As command in imovie.
When I changed the title on the copy, the video stuttered when I played it back. Also the overall length of the movie increased by about 6 seconds throwing off some sync even though the replacement title was exactly the same length in seconds and frames as the one I replaced.
any thoughts how to fix this?
I'm using OSX 10.6.8.

What does this "warning" mean? There are MP3s of music on the same external drive and they open just fine in iTunes. The one iMovie project file that is already on the drive will not open up in iMovie.
So, how do I properly format this external drive in order to transfer an iMovie project file from my friend's computer so that I can edit it on my MacBook Pro using iMovie '09?

Attachments duplicate in user steps

I have a user step with a few attachments. When I use the same list in the consecutive user step the attachments from the previous step duplicate and it creates double the number of attachments. I use the "copy all notes and attachments from a list of documents." and specify the list for input and output.
Could someone explain if this is a bug or expected functionality.

It is not a bug, but an implementation concern on collections.
For e.g lets take the assignment: aListVariable = {a list of attachments}
Now, the list variable will not overwritten rather the items will be appended to the list;
So to get rid of this issue, try to follow my approach;
create two list variable of type document (say list1 & list2)
For a Assign Task activity set the following:
Attachment & Notes
Copy all attachments from = list1
Output attachments = list2
Place a Set Value component after the Assign Task and assign the following:
list1 = empty-list()
list1 = list2
list2 = empty-list()

Correct. Once downloaded any file is saved in the Downloads folder by default. But files can also be downloaded to a specific location via the browser's context menu for download links. Safari, for example, has a "Download Linked File As" option. Most browsers have a similar option.
