Duplicate Birthday entries in iCal

Dear forum
when creating contatcs with birthdays and adding them to an exchange address book, the calendar entries for the birthdays show up twice in iCal.
After testing several sceanrios, it seems that iCal reads from "All Contacts" instead of "Contacts On My Mac" contacts only.
Is there a fix for that ? It worked fine before upgrading to 10.8.

I did some further research and it seems to be a bug/feature in den 10.8 Version.
Apparently the address book API returns two entries for linked cards.
There are some workarounds available in the internet for programmers needing to acces the address book without duplicate entries, but the original problem of the birthday subscription showing 2 entries for the same birthday of the same contact due to the contact being shared between two services (in my case local and MS Exchange server in other cases local and icloud) still exists. The support article does not solve the problem.
Any ideas how to solve this ? Thanks.

What I found was that you have to go all or nothing. I don't have any personal iDevices (just an iPad through work) so the simple solution was to turn off Contact syncing for iCloud. I'm guessing you'll need to remove all your local contacts or, the more tedious solution, remove the birthdays from all the local contacts. As you surmised, iCal seems to use the whole address book, and can't be just a subset of contacts.

  • Display server based address-book birthday entries in iCal

    Hello
Does anybody has a solution for the following situation to solve:
iCal on the user machine is only able to display birthday entries out of the local address-book not out of a address-book stored on a server (Mac OS-X).
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks for attention and respond

Hi, I would need that, too.
It's working on the iPhone, but not on MacOS with iCal... anyone from apple could help, please?

  • Multiple Birthday entries in iCal 6.0

When selecting under Subscriptions in iCal 6.0 (OS 10.8) I get multiple listings of birthdays (two for each contact with a birithday listed in their contact listing). All my contacts, including those with birthday listings, have shared links between iCloud and On My Mac. Is this the problem? I don't want to lose the shared links in Contacts between iCloud and On My Mac, but I also don't want to have multiple listing for birthdays in my iCal. Please advise.

Okay, I found out that if you have both "shared" cards between iCloud and On my Mac, you will get a double entry for the birthdays in iCal. Moral of the story, don't have shared cards! Good luck

  • HT204150 duplicate birthdays appear in iCal on my MacPro?

I have duplicate birthdays appearing on my Mac in iCal.  The first one has the name, the second just had 'Birthday' beside the present icon.  So every birthday in my contacts is displayed with this extra icon.

    Hi,
I couldn't import ics invitation received by email (in Mail). When I clicked on the ics invitation iCal was opening buy the ics invitation didn't appear.
Reading a few post I realized I could drag the ics invitation from from to iCal and then the invitation appeared into the "Waiting to confirm box" - on the right of the calendar button. By default is tried to sync using the "on my mac" account.
    ANSWER:
I wasn't using this account, so I DELETED all my "on my mac" calendars and iCloud calendar is now my default. From now on all my ics invitation are imported into iCal AND they sync flawlessly to my other device (iPhone 5 and iPad 4) and to people sharing this calendar.

  • Duplicates/extra entries in  iCal on Iphone not ICloud related

So I have been having this issue for a long time and I have been through all the trouble shooting and it always points back to settings and whatever to iCloud. This is not an iCloud issue as I turned it off a while ago and I have Snow Leopard Version 10.6.8 on my Mac which I believe doesn't hook up to iCloud at all (Am I correct here?). I have an Iphone 5 and it is updated to the new IOS but this has been happening prior to the update and it ALSO happened on my previous iphone 4 and to my Ipad. I have finally deduced all the extra entries showing up on my phone are from any change I made to an entry on my iCal on my computer. For example: If I click on my Ical on my computer to make a new entry and deleted it, a new entry shows up on my iphone calendar for that event even though I deleted it from my computer. OR if I made a change to an event, it would show up on my iphone as two different events. The original way I entered the event and then another event on my phone with the change. (Same thing when I plug in my Ipad, makes all these crazy entried).  I really need my calendar to work. This is ridiculous. Is anyone else having this issue or can someone PLEASE help me fix this???????

  • How do I delete duplicate events in my iCal?

Using SyncMate to sync my calendar and contacts from my Droid X to my iMac (MAC Office doesn't work since I upgraded to Lion).  Seemed successful.  However, I now have duplicate events in my iCal.  How can I delete the duplicate events?

    Hello Linda,
Duplicate calendar entries can definitely clutter up iCal.  I found an article that has specifically addresses duplicate birthday entries in iCal.  You can find the steps under section titled "7. Clean up birthdays and use the Birthday Calendar" in the following article:

  • Re: duplicate Birthdays in iCal since using iCloud

I don't know what to do...There's no way to "uncheck" the birthdays in your iCal that are now coming from both my contacts on my Mac AND on from iCloud.

The problem seems to be due to the birthday subscription using Address Book on the Mac.  If Address Book has been linked to iCloud (Contacts), then there are two copies of each contact in the Mac address book - one from iCloud and one on the Mac.  So each of these two copies gets a birthday entry in iCal on the Mac (though not on the Cloud, or even on ios devices).  You can verify this by looking at the Mac Address Book groups and see you have two address accounts.  One way to solve this is to get rid of the iCloud address book on the Mac, but that defeats the purpose of the iCloud.  If there was some way to merge the iCloud and Mac contact accounts on the Mac, the problem would go away.
So I think the route problem is in Address Book - because it's a nuisance to have duplicate names there (which problem doesn't exist on ios devices).  A partial solution would be to change iCal so that the birthday function can detect duplicates and not post both.
Any actual workarounds or solutions from Apple are welcomed.
After I wrote the above I looked at the "duplicate contacts" discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/message/16422473#16422473).  A couple of the responses there suggest manually deleting all the "On My Mac" addresses, leaving only the iCloud contacts.

  • Duplicates across Address Book, iCal and iCloud

I recently installed iOS5 and got iCloud and set it all up. I thought I had done it all properly, but admittedly have had to fiddle with it in order to try and get it to work properly. And so I now have "two" address books ("All on My Mac" and "All iCloud"), but they are not all direct duplicates, some entries that I have on my mac are missing from iCloud. In addition to that problem, I also have duplicate birthday entries now on iCal on my mac. And thirdly, in order not to have duplicate entries also on my iPhone calender, I cannot synch my Address Book from my mac to my iPhone, which means I am missing some of my contacts, those that have not transferred into iCloud (see my first point). So, in a nutshell, can anyone help me with:
    1) Getting my Address Book on my mac to transfer all my contacts from "All on My Mac" to "All iCloud"
    2) Getting my iCal to just use the iCloud address book entries
    3) And if none of the above, how to easily transfer all recent iCal entries back to "On My Mac" so that I can just forget about iCloud altogether
I'd really appreciate any help as I am tearing my hair out!

I feel your frustration, Quilps.  I went through the exact same thing.
Yes, part of the answer is to delete (or archive and delete) the copies for the ON MY MAC group.
But for me, I think the problem was more than an "ON MY MAC" copy and an ICloud copy.  I think I was bringing in copies of the databases that were stored on my other devices. I may have synced some of the devices with ITUNES after I had made the move to the Cloud.  Bad move.
In any event, it ended up fairly disastrously until I figured out a way to delete everything, get one clean copy and bring it everywhere.
Just wanted others to NOT experience the ordeal I went through in order to get it right.

  • Duplicate Birthday calendar entries in Notification Center

I have many contacts' birthdays saved with their contact info.  This created two calendars: one "Birthdays" calendar in iCal on my Mac, and one "Birthdays" calendar in my iPhone's Calendar app.  I want to keep each of these in their respective places.
    Here's my problem:
Both show up in Notification Center.  For example, my friend Bryan's birthday is tomorrow, and it shows twice in the Notification center (once, pulled from the iOS Calendar; the other, synced from iCal).
I've disabled the imported calendar from displaying in the Calendar app (so I only see iOS's "native" entry listed on my calendar).  But it still shows both in Notification Center!  Any ideas how I can get rid of the duplicate NC entry, without deleting the calendar itself from either source?

  • How do I get rid of duplicate entries in iCal on my mac after commencing iCloud?

I just got a new iPhone 4s, and have set up iCloud.  I managed to sync everthing i think (ie. contacts + calenders) but now on my mac iCal I have three duplicate calender entries for one event, but only one entry on my iPhone.  If I delete just one of the entries from the iCal on my mac (leaving 2 still there), the one calender entry on my iphone disappears.  Please help.  It is driving me mad!!

You don't want to get rid of, it's a security feature. If someone steals your Mac, all that account permits is Safari access, no other access to the computer. This enables you to locate your Mac.

  • Deleting duplicate entries in iCal?

How do I delete duplicate entries in iCal (identical entries on the same date)?

    Todd,
I suspected a more serious problem because the answer was too easy.
Thousands of duplicate entries...Is this what happened?
According to, Mac OS X 10.4: Stay away from the SyncServices folder: As if it were a swarm of bees, you should stay away from the SyncServices folder in Mac OS X 10.4. Removing or modifying anything in it—or in subfolders within it—may cause unexpected issues. (This folder is located in your Application Support folder, in your Library folder, in your Home folder.)
Deleting or modifying things in the SyncServices folder may cause unexpected results such as:
    • Duplicate contacts in Address Book or appointments in iCal.
    • Data loss in Address Book or iCal.
Important: Any lost or duplicate data could propagate to other devices and computers via iSync and .Mac sync. This means data could be lost on other computers. If that is your problem, I suspect that without a backup, duplicate entry deletion will at best be tedious, and at worst fraught with frustration. You may be better off starting from scratch.
    ;~)

  • Birthday entries in Lion's iCal

I use OS X in German.
Since my upgrade to Lion the entries of the birthday calendar in iCal have changed the order the text is displayed. Before lion iCal used to display the name of the person first. E. g. "Peter Meiers Geburtstag" Now the order changed to "27. Geburtstag von Peter Meier".
Now it's impossible to see the name of the person at first glance. You have to open the entry or switch to day view to see the person having birthday.
Is it possible to change the look as it was before?

That's brilliant John - it worked, so thanks a ton (although I haven't synced yet, so let's hope it doesn't throw a wobbly). Just proves that the simple solutions are the best - if only I had the sense to do that before...
Oddly though, it changed the label colour, not that I care much.
    Thanks again.
