Duplicate cloud mail accounts

My ipad shows a duplicate of one mail account only.
One has the email address I use on my icloud account.
The other one Just says iCloud.
But they are the same account.
When I look on my icloud accounts online, there is only one.
On my mac, on my iphone, only one.
I would like to remove the one which is the named account and retain the "icloud" account.
But there is no way on the ipad to remove an account (unlike on the iphone)
When I hook up to itunes and ask it to replace accounts on my ipad with accounts on my mac (one time only), it says it is doing it, but it doesn't.
How can I get rid of the duplicate account?  Thanks.

I'm having the same problem, and can't find any way to delete the extra account. The iPhone settings shows a single iCloud email account. Within the Mailboxes window in Mail, though, the Accounts box shows two iCloud accounts. One has the shiny iCloud icon while the other shows the old MobileMe icon with the clouds and blue sky. That's the one I'd like to get rid of, but I can't find any way to do so.

  • Is it safe to delete duplicate e-mail accounts on iPhone?

Downloaded new iTunes update 4.3.5 to my iMac OS 10.6.8.  Then did a sync to my iPhone 4.   Now the Mailbox on my iPhone 4 reflects the Yahoo account it has always reflected but now two duplicate sbcglobal accounts have also appeared.  Is it safe to delete the two duplicate sbcglobal accounts?   Many previously deleted e-mails have also reappeared.

I am new to this community so I may be doing something wrong...since it has been almost 3 hours and I've not received any replies regarding my question about duplicate e-mail accounts.  Or is it just that no one has an answer for me?
I've read lots of replies regarding the error to the download 4.3.5 but none of them were my issue.  Thanks for anyone's help!

  • Adding i cloud mail account to gmail

I would like to add i cloud mail to my gmail account.  When I try to do so, I get a message that the server is refusing access.  Does anyone know how to do this.  Using two different mail programs in cumbersome and I have not been able to find a way to add a gmail account to I cloud mail.

I have the same problem.  Variations on the incoming mail server (e.g. "p01-imap.mail.me.com") also do not work.
Perhaps we should just abandon our iCloud email address?

  • HT4859 After the i-cloud server issue Nov 26, 2012, I had to change some mail account settings to get my i-cloud mail to work again.  However, all of my received e-mails are gone.  How do I retrieve my e-mails from the server?

After the i-cloud server issue yesterday, November 26, 2012, my i-cloud mail account on my Macbook Pro stopped receiving mail.  I changed some mail account settings to fix the issue, and was able to start receiving e-mails.  However, all of my historical e-mails are gone.  How do I retrieve all of my old e-mails from the server?

What settings did you change, what were the changes, have you visited www.icloud.com to see what mail is actually there? and do you have a backup?

  • HT201342 How can I change the USER of my i-cloud address? My 12 year old set up the e-mail account and used a silly user name (like: turtle!!). I would like to have an icloud e-mail account but under my own user name. The other /old name can be deleted?

How can I change the USER name of my i-cloud e-mail account? It was set up by my son and he used a silly / embarrassing user name. I would like to change this name OR set up another i-cloud e-mail account under my own name / reference. Help?

iCloud email addresses can't be changed or deleted, but you can set up an alias namethat he can use which will be linked to his current iCloud account and will receive email in the existing iCould inbox.  This guide explains how: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2622.

  • HT4191 iPhone Local Storage "My iPhone" - How do you create this folder for use by the Notes app on a iPhone or iPad?  If I want to keep some notes only on my device and not in a cloud environment associated with an e-mail account.

iPhone Local Storage "My iPhone" - How do you create this folder for use by the Notes app on a iPhone or iPad?  If I want to keep some notes only on my device and not in a cloud environment associated with an e-mail account.  I've seen reference to the  "My iPhone" local storage put no mention on how you create this folder or access this folder within the Notes app.  I realize storing information in a local storage like this provides no syncing between other iDevices but that is exactly what I'm looking for.  I'm running iOS7.0.4 on a iPhone 5S, and a iPad Air.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you go to Settings > Notes > Default Account you will see "On My iPhone" as the default account and the only choice if you have not enabled syncing Notes in Settings >iCloud or Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. If you have enabled syncing you can still select "On My iPhone" as the default account. When you are in the Notes app you won't see any accounts listed if you have not enabled syncing because they are all in the On My iPhone account and that is the only place possible. It is not a folder that you create.

  • I have duplicate mail accounts and deleted messages keep redownloading in gmail

I am using Mountain Lion and I have a me.com email account, gmail account, and sbcglobal.net account.  I set up my accounts in iMail and I use iCloud, but now I have duplicate mail accounts and every time I delete messages from my gmail account, the next time I go into Mail, all the deleted messages are back in my gmail account.  How do I stop this from happening and how do I make it so that I don't have duplicates of everything!

All 3 email accounts show up under Inbox, but all three also show up as iCloud, sbcglobal.net, and gmail.  The iCloud account will occasionally get duplicates, the sbcglobal.net account only gets mail that sbcglobal.net has put into a "bulk" folder and seems to be all junk mail and does not show up in the sbcglobal.net inbox account and the gmail shows up in both places, but I can delete messages in the gmail inbox account and they do not download again, but the second gmail account is the one that keeps redownloading the already deleted messages into the gmail "all mail" folder.  I have tried deleting the gmail account and have gone to gmail's help page, but they are behind with set up for Mac Mail.  The set up is for Mail 3.0 and not 6.2.  It keeps downloading over a thousand emails into this gmail "all mail" folder.  Is there any way to stop this?

  • Icon for i cloud suddenly disappeared from mail ?  Not a problem but just concerned that the icon should disappear from the listing for the iCloud e mail account

I had previosly set up a number of IMAP e mail account in addiiton under my .mac and .me account which is my personal account.
On the mail home page it had the inbox listing thee accounts and further down the page its used to list the on line accounts set up under I cloud using the same name as the .mac or .me accounts, but also included the i cloud icon as does my ipad.  Logged onto day and the i cloud icon had dissappeared?  not sure why it is still functioning and I still have all my icloud accounts set up but the icon is no longer present.
Maybe just a bit anal but it bugs me to know why this icon has suddenly dissappeared?

    Hello,
Do you use these settings in Mail for your Gmail account (especially for the SMTP) ?
If you use IMAP and all your emails are still stored on the server you can delete your account in Mail and recreate it with the settings mentionned above.
    Hope this will help.

  • Duplicate e-mails from different accounts

I have two e-mail accounts that feed into the Mail program. Suddenly last night I had a problem where e-mail from one of the accounts would not have the blue "unread" indicator. I tried various things (mostly retying account info and double-checking settings) but nothing really seemed to work. So I decided I would run a software update before going any further.
Immediately after he software update I see my inbox is filled with duplicate messages--the entire inbox, not just recent messages. An e-mail sent to account #1 is there along with an e-mail listed as being from account #2--even though that e-mail was only sent to account #1.
    Thoughts?

You cannot. Once you delete the account you delete all the files and data associated with it. Under the best of circumstances you may be able to use file recovery software to recover the data if it has not already been overwritten:
    Basics of File Recovery
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down.
When you delete files you erase only the directory entries, not the files themselves. However, the space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
Also visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on Data Recovery.

  • Why there are duplicate mail accounts in Mailbox?

Somehow the mail accounts in Mailbox of my iPhone 5 have been duplicated, so whenever there is a new E-mail, the unread E-mail number is doubled. This is what shows in the Mailbox.
As shown above, the Yahoo! mail and Gmail are duplicated, and I could not remove them with Edit. Anyone knows why this happens, and how I should remove the dplicate mail accounts here?

I have the same problem with my iPhone 4.  The duplicate also appears on my MacBookPro.  Have not found the solution yet.

You're saying this is happening on a Mac??  Find My iPhone is a feature of iOS devices, not Macs.  If you are trying to change the iCloud ID on an iOS device, you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

Why would you delete your iCloud account for a password change with your Yahoo account?
Regardless, if no problem re-creating your iCloud account on your iPad, contact Yahoo technical support.

  • If I have a mac mail account why do I have to change to i-cloud?

If I have a mac mail account why do I have to change to i-cloud?
Will it cease to work on 30 June, and if so do I have to buy leapord and then lion, updgrade and re-sync/lose a number of things?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Yes, if you do not migrate from your MobileMe account to iCloud you will lose access to all your services after June 30, 2012.
Lion (10.7.2 or better) is required for iCloud. If you have a MobileMe account Apple are giving you Snow Leopard free of charge, this will install the App Store on your computer from where you will be able to purchase and upgrade to lion.

  • Pop mail account and duplicates on mail.ap

    Hi,
Mail is duplicating messages, I have a pop mail account and the preference setting is to erase messages on the server.
Some duplicates are from Nov 2006; after I erased all messages using the terminal and ssh connection.
I was told to rebuild mail index and did it, no improvement.
.......... any help appreciated, I have invested many hours into erasing duplicates ... thanks, Garrett
Why don't you try rebuilding your Mail index:
    1. Quit Mail if it's running.
    2. Go to ~/Library/Mail and delete the Envelope Index file.
    3. Restart Mail and wait for it to import your existing messages. When that's done, any duplicates or ghost messages should be gone..

Sorry, both at once is confusing in retrospect.
Just meant backup the whole works and drag the current cache & envelope out of their locations to the desktop.
    What about the plist?
You can make a Copy of that to move to the Desktop. Sometimes that needs to be made anew also, but requires putting in account info and such, so we generally wait on that one.
What about the files on the desk top?
If everything works right, we can trash them, if nit we can mive them back.
I'm not sure from these ideas what might be the result or why there is a problem in the first place.
Same here, but those files can become corrupt.
