Duplicate contact. 650+ of them.

All of a sudden I have 650 identical contacts. Possibly from a website I visited (safe according to Norton). How can I get rid of all of those contacts and my settings don't appear to allow automatic saving of contacts. I never tried to save this contact ever!!

Do you care about your Ratings, Last Played, and Play Count attributes? Do you have many or intricate Playlists you need to save?
If no to both, then just delete all song references (not the underlying song files), and re-'Add' songs back into iTunes.
If you need to maintain the Library metadata, then:
1) Save the Playlists to XML files for Playlist Retention
2) Createt an XML file of Ratings, Play Counts and Last Played attributes saved from the main Library and created by Otto’s SaveRatings script:

Run it on the machine where you're copying the info from BEFORE you move the files to the new machine. Click the "Save Ratings" button and it'll create a ratings.xml file. Voila, all your information is back in the Library. Well, most of it anyway, it's not perfect. It'll tell you what songs it couldn't figure out though, and there's usually not very many.”
Then delete and rebuild your Library and import the data back into it.

Hi, I have a bb curve 8330, I installed the destop software for mac and it seemed to work except that now all of my contacts are gone except for one that has been duplicated 5 times. Now when I try to sync again it fails, and I'm not able to delete the duplicate contacts or edit them. Is there anyway to get rid of these duplicate contacts? I can manually enter my contacts again but I would really like to be able to delete these duplicates.
I have a Mac dual G5 running osx 10.5.8.1.
Device OS release - 4.5.0.169
Device Type/Model - Blackberry 8330

I suspect there was an issue with the Address Book database on the BlackBerry and the wipe of the device may have corrected it for you.

Just go ahead and go to settings>Facebook> Contacts OFF and do the same with Gmail. THe contacts related to those acct will dissapear. Then when you sync again with Gmail be carefull BCS IT SAYS IF YOU WANT TO JUST ADD THE CONTACTS OR MERGE THEM!!!!

Icloud sync created duplicate contacts...can't get rid of them

Ever since I began syncing my iPhone via iCloud, multiple entries have popped up in my Contacts. In some cases I'll have 4 or 5 duplicate Contacts when I started with just one. I tried deleting them manually (which took forever) but they just come back.
I tried shutting off iCloud sync and doing it the old way, but I realized that many contacts were missing. (i.e. I must have deleted them from locations other than iCloud, and that's the only place where they reside now.)
I feel stuck. This is very frustrating. iCloud was supposed to make my life easier and it's screwing things up. Any suggestions?
PS - I have an iMac running OS X 10.8.4 and an iPhone 5.

My Contacts Backup Pro has a 4+ rating, but it's up to you if you want to try it or not. If you haven't done so already, you might want to take a look at Apple's KB article on duplicate iCloud contacts: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4147. It's not a very common problem, and can be caused by things like attempting to sync contacts with both iCloud and iTunes.
If you have cleaned up your contacts only to see duplicates reappear on their own, you might need to get iCloud support to help you with this one as it's a rare problem. Then may need to have a senior engineer take a look at your account to determine what's causing it.

If your computer is signed into your iCloud account with Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Tasks checked on the iCloud control panel for Windows, when you delete a contact on icloud.com it sould be deleted from Outlook. Try deleting one and see if this happens.

It is happening on only some contacts but, as with you, when I delete one of the contacts on the ipad, the second ipad contact and the contact on the imac are also deleted. Open your "Contacts" app.
Tap the contact you wish to delete.
Tap "Edit" in the top right corner.
Scroll all the way down to the bottom and select "Delete Contact."
Alternatively, you could try this $0.99 app from the appstore called "Remove Duplicate Contacts and Events."

There are several applications available that remove duplicates, but I am not sure which ones work or don't work. I want information on this, but most importantly I want to understand how to fix this problem permanently. Also, I read somewhere that Mac's new operating system, Lion, can help deal with duplicates. I don't have Lion, but I would be willing to get it, if this would fix the problem.

Had the same problem with 4 devices (two computers, an iPhone and an iPod). The solution is simple: open the Address Book application in your mac, ask it to locate duplicate entries (under one of the top menu items, "edit" I think), and then ask it to consolidate them: it took me all of three seconds after I figured it out: worked like a charm! PS: if you have more than one mac with unconected Address Books, repeating the operation in the second one may be a good idea.

Check icloud.com to be sure you contact list is correct there. If it is, just go to Settings>iCloud on your device and turn Contacts to On to sync the contacts to your device. If contacts are already set to On and you still see duplicates, you may be viewing a duplicate contact group in addition to the iCloud contacts. Open Contacts, tap Groups, then tap any groups other than iCloud to uncheck them, then tap Done. See if the duplicates are still there.

Duplicate contacts on phone after syncing?

Duplicate contacts: many threads about this issue, but none of them resolve my problem. I do not use MobileMe, and I do not sync to Google or Yahoo contacts. The only source of contacts is my iMac AddressBook. Why are there duplicates on my phone after syncing in iTunes? Is there a fix?

I've read numerous threads about this but can't find anything that works.
I have duplicate contacts on my iphone. I backup and sync with iTunes, and not iCloud. I have an iPhone 5. I recently downloaded ios 7 and synced, now I have duplicate contacts on my phone. Not all of them, but alot!!! How do I remove the duplicates and stop this from happening again? Windows Vista, iTunes11.1.3.8

I would go into Windows Contacts then. You can remove the duplicates there, but it could very well be the way that Windows Contacts reacts to multiple numbers/email addresses, etc. This was one way that Outlook Express did early on with the iPhone, and the way that earlier phones worked with SIM contacts. They could not store enough information in one contact, so it created a second one to hold the balance. Go into Windows contacts and look at the duplicate contacts and see if you can see differences in the contacts and correct it there.

I had Mobile Me go nuts on me a few weeks ago and took my 1,000+ contacts and duplicated them with every sync up to 16,400 before I caught it and shut it down.
This happened to my iCal appointments as well, but there is a simple application out there that allows duplicate entries to be automatically deleted.
Anyone know how to do this with AddressBook? I really don't have time to go through 16,400 entries and confirm each one before deleting them!!
