Duplicate contacts after iCloud migration and updates

Hello everyone!
Any help would be very appreciated. Since I updated to 10.7.2 and merged onto the iCloud......I have duplicate and triplicate contacts on my computers and on my cell phone and iPad2. I have tried using the "FIND DUPLICATES..." but that just stalls and eventualy crashes the contacts program. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to correct this problem?? THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!

Thanks JB for your response. I will tell you though, that I called AppleCare and spoke to a technical support rep there and was informed that it was a known issue today that iCloud is sending out duplicate contacts and so not to worry about it---it will clear itself up soon.
I hope that was an accurate reponse. Any ideas??

Check icloud.com to be sure you contact list is correct there. If it is, just go to Settings>iCloud on your device and turn Contacts to On to sync the contacts to your device. If contacts are already set to On and you still see duplicates, you may be viewing a duplicate contact group in addition to the iCloud contacts. Open Contacts, tap Groups, then tap any groups other than iCloud to uncheck them, then tap Done. See if the duplicates are still there.

Remove you icloud contact information on all your IOS devices, go to the icloud setting on you ios device and turn off the addressbook syncing, when it asks you "do you want to remove keep the address on your ips device you say NO... So now your MacBook is the only thing syncing too the icloud.
Go to Addresbook and look for the menu option find duplicates.
After that wait for your laptop to sync this too icloud. to check give it about 2 min depending on how many changes log into your icloud account at www.icloud.com and check too see if the syncing has updated whats in the cloud.
If it has then urn on your addressbook syncing in iclouud settings on your IOS devices and all should be back too normal.

Disable Yahoo Sync after iCloud migration

I am getting this pop up and it's driving me bonkers. I don't even use Yahoo sync, but I guess it was turned on when I had MobileMe. After the migration to iCloud, my MobileMe prefs have been disabled and it refers me to the iCloud prefs.
Does anyone know how to turn this off? I tried doing searched but only found solutions that required me to be able to access MobileMe preferences. So, that is a non-working solution after iCloud migration.

Yes, this also driving me nuts. I gave in and said sync and it disappeared and never came back. Unfortunately, for some reason (possibly unrelated) my trial mobile me (I never paid for it), automatically appeared one day and took over 75% of all my contacts! I didn't know this and so I deleted the old mobile me account from address book which then deleted these contacts and then proceeded to wipe the rest of my devices!
I deleted all accounts off address book and reloaded a contacts back from a *.vcf file I had and presto everything back. As soon as I turned on iCloud sync again, so again did this flipping yahoo sync message appear again!
Is this because of old mobile me accounts even those that were just trials that are messing with apple cloud syncing? I have turned everything off and short of deleting my yahoo account I'm not sure what to try next!

Deleting duplicate contacts in iCloud

Is there a way to delete a duplicate contact in iCloud and not delete the other contact? I duplicated contacts in iCloud, not my PC. They are duplicated on my iPhone, but not the PC. When I delete one, the other is deleted and everything in the cloud and the original on my PC is deleted.

I had exactly the same problem .... apple care too wasnt much of a help. However i solved it and also informed them about it.
Please follow exactly and let me know if it helps.
First open icloud.com and sign it with your Apple id and password - you should see the contacts folder.
In the bottom left you should the gear wheel, click on it.
Click on one of the contact till its highlighted blue, then click cmd and A together - this will highlight all the contacts. Next use delete to delete all your contacts in the icloud (use the delete from the wheel gear)
You should see you icloud empty, now click on the gear wheel again and then click on import vcards, [to do this
make a folder on the desktop, highlight one contact in your contact list and them again press cmd and A - together to hightlight the whole list of contact. Copy to the folder on the desktop] Now the vcards can be imported to the icloud.
You have a fresh set of contacts on you icloud, which should be sent to all your devices related to your icloud account and password.
This solved my problem, hope it solves your too.

I have exactly the same problem on my ipad. It is happening on only some contacts but, as with you, when I delete one of the contacts on the ipad, the second ipad contact and the contact on the imac are also deleted. This is even the case when I have differentiated the two contacts on the ipad and can see the one I have deleted on the ipad is not the same one as is then deleted on the imac.

We had this happen with a ipad mini, took it back to person who worked on it, after a week with trying to get it working again, he replaced it. I will agree with the other replies take it back to repair place there must be something inside the phone that if you don't do repair excalty right it messes up all phone functions. Also I would give the repair person a time frame to either get it working or replace it.

How do I merge duplicate contacts in i cloud?

My girlfriend had the same problem updating to iOS6. Firstly all the contacts disapeared from her iPhone. So I had to synchronize with her mac plugging in the iPhone to iTunes and checking info->synchronize contacts and info->advanced->contacts and press synchronize. So I got all the contacts back.
However I wanted the advantages of iCloud and tryed to synchronize with iCloud. After some changes on the configuration on the iPhone (I can not reproduce what I have done exactly) I ended up with double or even trippled contact entries.
So i did the following (make sure that all the contacts you like to have are on your mac book!):
1. I checked on www.icloud.com/contacts if the contacts are really doubled and they were!
2. then i disabled the iCloud contact sync in the settings on the iPhone and chose to delete all contacts.
3. then I deleted all the contacts on iCloud (lower left button -> first 'select all' and then 'delete')
4. then I synchronized the iPhone contacts with the Mac book over iTunes (checking info->synchronize contacts and info->advanced->contacts and press synchronize)
5. then I checked that all the contacts are only once on the iPhone
6. then I enabled the the iCloud contact sync in the settings on the iPhone
7. then I checked in www.icloud.com/contacts if the contacts are there only once.
I hope this helps you saving 2 hours in your life (as much as I spent last night to figure out what to do).

I started from
a Mac Power Book running Snow Leopard - too old to upgrade to Mountain Lion and afirst generation iPad
Not at all sure how either of those worked wo\ith iCloud
I switched to a MacMini on Mountain Lion and also from an iPhine 4 to an iPhine 5
So I sort of stumbled into iCloud before and after my upgrade
Now I have duplicates in my Contacts on my MacMini, my iphone 5 and my iPad but not yet on my Power book
my iCloud account for Mail on the iPad is empty
My calendar on the iPad has dupplicates. One has 158 duplicates
Obviously I screwed up in my transition if it before and since
I guess I have two problems
First to stop any more havoc probably by cleaning up settings for iCloud and on each device
Second to remove duplicates especially from Contacts deleting one at a time is tough when there over 100 dups

If the contacts are correct and unduplicated on your PowerBook, export them to a vCard by opening Address Book, select All Contacts on the left sidebar, click on a single contact, the press Command-A to select all contacts (they should all be highlighted), then go to File>Export>Export vCard and save it on your desktop.
Then delete all of your contacts on icloud.com (which will delete them from your other devices too.* Go to icloud.com, open Contacts. click on All Contacts on the left, to the right click on any single contact to select it, click on the Actions (gear shaped) icon at the bottom and choose Select All, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.
Then email the vCard you created earlier from your PowerBook to yourself. Open the email on your iPhone and tap the attachment to import the contacts to your iPhone, as well as to iCloud and your other devices.
* If you want, you can make a precautionary backup of the duplicated contacts as they are now before starting. To do this, open Contacts on your Mac Mini, select all contacts, export them as a vCard and save it on your desktop.

Iphone 4s creates duplicate contacts after connecting to office 365 services

I have a client that has an iphone 4s after she synchronized her iphone with an office 365 online services account(its exchange 2010).
now the phone keep creating duplicate contacts (even after I delete them they keep apearing).
microsoft says its an apple problem what can be done?

In Mid-August, 2012, this problem still continues and I am unaware any fix to the problem.
I am running iOS 5.1 on iPhone 4S
Outlook (Hosted Exchange) 365
WIndows 7
Outlook 2010 client
Initial setup:
Contacts clean and no duplicates in Hosted Exchange & Outlook 2010
Zero contacts in the iPad and iPhone before syncing with Exchange services
Same condition with iPhone
Same condition with iPad
iTunes not involved, no syncing ever (and no [email protected] ever created.)
iCloud Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Notes all turned off
Connected with Exchange with legit user name, password and server domain, togel soft switches on the Exchange Mail, Contacts, Calenday and Labels/Reminders.
iPhone receives synced contacts (and email and calendar and notes) from Exchange Active Sync
User is fine until he/she searches for a contact via iOS device.
As searches continue , user believes that Contacts crash (quit unexpectedly and return to main iOS app page.
Duplicates begin to display on the iOS device that Contacts crashed on.
IF the user then edits one of the phantom duplicate contacts, the record duplicatiuon begins to grow in Outlook Contacts. But if no pantom editing happens, the duplications continues only on the iOS device and the contacts begin to appear in tripples and more .
If you are having this problem, please post it, so that if Apple ever reads these boards, they see the problem is not isolated to a few and they begin to understand that the iOS devices will be jetisoned from enterprise customers because problems like this should be acknoledged and resolved on a MUCH more timely manner.

Nokia C7 Duplicate Contacts after synchronizing wi...

I recently, synchronized my contacts with Ovi sync, which was aborted in the middle due to a technical Connectivity Problem. After that I again synched after about an hour.This time the Sync was successful. But to my annoyance I found that more than 1500 records got duplicated in my mobile and now I have this unpleasant task of removing each of these duplicate contacts manually or merge them. Is there a way to do a mass merge of duplicate contacts at one go...
But I must say Nokia's OVi is a big Pain to use as there is always some technical or software issue or the other.
Bottom Line - Nokia's smart phones are not smart enough and their support services (online and Nokia care centers ) are nothing but a place where you could only do your software re-installation. Period. These guys do not know to handle specific software/hardware issues. All they know is re-install the software or re-start the phone. I think I was smarter when I had an ordinary Nokia N70....the biggest mistake I did was to select a nokia Smart Phone.

Try to use http://www.bloove.com to find and mass remove duplicate contacts via convinent web interface.
