Duplicate Contacts / Calendars

We have 12 Blackberry devcies and are running BES 4.1.6.10. 25% of the devices have issues where calendar items or contacts are duplicated.
The only common thread seems to be that if you go into the options, you see duplicated Desktop lists. There does not seem to be a way of deleting the duplicate.
To fix the contacts issue I had to use the desktop manager software to clear out both Desktop lists then turn back on wireless sync on one of them, but I am trying to stay away from installing the desktop manager software as a matter of course because it seems to add no business value.
Is this a known issue and is there a way to fix this / prevent this because we have now had the green light to supply the rest of our 200+ sales force with Blackberrys however if this continues to happen then it is going to cause a major problem.
Thanks in advance
David

Hi Hi,
Which model and version of devices you are running with.  If you see you have 2x Desktop in calendar & address book options, can you go to Options > Advanced Options > service books and see if you can find more than one Desktop [CICAL] and Desktop [Sync], which by default you should one have one each.
If so, I suggest you to wipe the BB (Options > Security Options > General Settings > wipe handset) of one of those affected user, remove and readd user back onto BES and perform a wireless activation again.  DO NOT connect to Desktop Manager and see if this retify the issue.
If someone give you helpful hints, please click on Kudos.

  • Duplicate contacts calendar in my iphone

i have MobileMe account and i has been use MobileMe to upload my contact and calendar. when i purchase a new macbook pro then use that's to sync my iphone, after sync, my iphone had two contact list and calendar list in my iphone. how to solve this problem??
    thx a lot.... ...

I have a similar problem, but neither the advice above nor here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3677 have resolved it. I've been annoyed for some time now that all of my existing mobile me contacts are not appearing in Outlook (which is synced with a corporate Exchange Server) - everything works fine BTW on my Macs at home, it's just the Office environment that's a problem. Weirdly, new contacts entered in Outlook/Exchange do sync to Mobile Me - but not from iphone/mac/Mobile Me to Outlook. Thinking this may be because MobileMe is syncing with my Windows Address Book, rather than Outlook I imported my .pab file into Outlook and was at first delighted to see all my contacts appear there. My delight turned to horror when MobileMe then detected all these 'new' Outlook contacts creating hundreds of duplicates. The reason why the solution above doesn't work is because it assumes the problem is caused when syncing contacts for the first time to an iphone and not using the 'merge' option. This is NOT my problem. My problem is MobileMe itself now has hundreds of duplicate entries that it thinks are all different. Any suggestions how to fix it? I'd be thrilled to hear from you if you have....
    Thanks in advance,
    Huw

  • Duplicate contacts & calendar items

    Hello
I need some help please, I have a new I-phone which I have tried to sync with outlook on my pc via itunes. I do not have ME on it at present, I have tried deleating every thing but as soon as you sync it doubles up? What am I not doing? or doing wrongly?

Are you running Outlook 2003 or 2007, which are the only Outlook versions supported for syncing with the iPhone?
Are the contacts and calendar events duplicated on your iPhone only?
If so and your Outlook contacts and calendar events are correct, under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences below the Advanced section, select Contacts and Calendars for replace info on this iPhone followed by selecting Apply and then syncing. This will replace all contacts and calendar events on your iPhone with what is available in Outlook. This will be one time.

  • How to not create duplicates in contacts & calendar on laptop #2

Ok. I have 2 laptops and someone how here helped me solve the duplicates issues on laptop #1 - it was only happening on the calendar side.  Now i need to synch the same BB on a dif laptop.
I thougth I solved it when on laptop #1 the config is set that outlook always wins and on the desk top manaager on laptopo #2 I set it to say BB always wins.  That said, when I synch bb w/ laptop #2 I get duplicate contacts and calendar.
Now that laptop #1 is almost solved what if I wipe out the PST folders on laptop #2 re- transfer the PST from laptop #1 and then synch?
Although I did that and I still get duplicates.
Then after laptop #2 messes up the bB the BB duplicates laptop #1 again.  Obviously I can stop 1/2 the insanity but the objecitve is to have laptop #2 mirror laptop #

So a strange thing happened actually, I did like I explained previously and nothing happened but when I wrote an expression like (ID == 0?"ALLDAY":'ALLDAY') - where ID is just a PK property in the EO it worked. Practically it is the same thing but who knows, at least now it works.

  • How do I remove duplicate iCloud calendar entries in iTunes

Hello Everyone and thanks in advance for any help on this issue!
The main issue is that in iTunes>Devices>Info>Sync Calendars, I see of Local calendars listed and also iCloud calendars listed (they show a portion of the address (CalDAV?) that they use to sync), and the issue is that I have DUPLICATE iCloud calendar entries here and I would love to remove them.
    Here is my setup:
MBP with Lion and iPhone 3G with all updates.
All of my calendars sync with iCloud (I also have an iPad, but not issue with it.) and there are no duplicate calendars or events in iCloud on the web, so this is fine.
I sync my iCloud/iCal calendars to my iPhone 3G (iOS 4.2.1) via iTunes and this is going well, so no problems here, either.
I would just like to remove the duplicate iCloud calendars from iTunes under the Info pane so as to simplify life and my understanding. Also, there are other apps (like TimeTable) that go and read the master list of calendars. So, on this app, I see ALL of the calendars by name without being able to distinguish them any other way.
Any ideas as to how I can climb inside of iTunes and remove the duplicate iCloud calendar entries?
    Thanks!
    Blessings,
    Justin

I can confirm that there are no duplicate contacts. Currently, because I use an iPhone 3G, my contacts are only being synced via iTunes, not via iCloud.
My question relates not to duplicate calendar events, but to duplicate calendar addresses (in iCloud) in iTunes' Info pane.
    Here is a pic:
So, you can see that there are 2 entries for 'Personal', each with the iCloud address (CalDAV?) attached to it. Note that one entry says, 'Personal iCld' instead of just 'Personal'. This is because I renamed all of my iCloud calendars in iCal to see if that would help me distinguish the 'working' calendars from the duplicate entries.
I would love to be able to get rid of the extra calendars in iTunes to avoid confusion. I do not have any duplicate calendar entries on any devices at this point. I think part of this is because I have deslected the duplicate calendar references in iTunes.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Justin

  • 3GS Sync Causing Double Sets of Contacts & Calendars?

I activated my 3GS this morning. I restored from my last backup. Then when it was up and running in did a sync w/ Mobile Me - now I have 'on my iphone' and 'on my mac (mobileme)' in both calendar and contacts - how do i get rid of the 'on my iphone' sets?!?! ie when I go to 'all contacts' or 'all calendars' I don't have to look at duplicates of everything and when add or edit something I know it's going to the 'cloud' and not to t he 'on my iphone' part...

    ciphoto,
Open "Settings" on the iPhone>Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks>Accounts>your MobileMe account and turn off Contacts, when prompted delete data, and wait two minutes, then turn Contacts back on. When asked merge the data, make that choice, and wait patiently. You should no longer have duplicates. If you are able, I recommend using a Wi-Fi connection to make the change.
    ;~)

  • Duplicate Contact/Address Book entries on iPhone

why do I have duplicate contact and address books entries on my iPhone? I never had this problem until I upgraded to iCloud. I have an iPhone 4 and it is upgraded to the current OS.

If you are using Outlook 2011, make sure you have the latest service pack and update.
Make sure your Mac Book and all devices have the latest update.
If the Calendar on the Mac Book is correct go to step 3
Assuming Mac Book Calendar is correct, remove accounts from iPhone, iPad.
Reconnect account to iPhone, iPad account.
All calendars should now be in sync.
There are times when the Mail, Calendar, Contact application has been corrupted (Outlook 2011, Mac Mail, Entourage, etc).  This will cause all kinda of issues on your devices.  You have to repair the mail client first.  In the case of Outlook you can delete the profile and recreate it.  In Mac Mail you can rebuild (from Tools on the menu bar)

  • BIS Contact/Calendar Sync Broken and Unreliable

I'm a Google Apps reseller in Canada.  Recently, making Blackberrys play nice using BIS has been an absolute horror story.  A quick breakdown of the recent history of the Blackberry:
-Originally, did not support any sync of contacts and calendars natively in BIS
-To combat this, a Google Sync tool would be installed on each individual phone to allow these synchronizations
-OS version 5.0 and above (I think?) began to support contacts and calendars natively in BIS.
This is all fine and dandy, except for two glaring issues.
1.) Whether or not a new or old phone with any given OS of 5.0 and above wil support this syncing through BIS appears to be completely random.  Some new phones directly off the shelf will not show this option in the BIS settings, and others have it right away.
2.) This sync service that is built in to BIS enables and disables on devices at random, with no warning or permission given or required.
We have experienced these two issues extremely consistently since this sync was enabled in BIS, and it has become an increasingly common problem for any of our customers (not only those on Rogers service.)
A quick example to display why this is far worse than it may appear at first glance (keep in mind these issues have occured several times to the point where we are reluctant to advertise any ability to sync with the Blackberry):
We begin with a user that has a brand new Blackberry (likely a torch or something).  We configure their email account and get things set up, but when attempting to enable sync through BIS we find that only deleted items is displayed as an option.  We install the Google Sync utility, and log in to sync contacts and calendar.  Everything is running smoothly.   One day, we receive a call because they are suddently experiencing an infinite number of duplicates on their calendar and/or contacts.  We check the BIS settings to find that the sync options are not only available but they are both already enabled, with no warning.  Because of this, the two sync tools had been replicating eachother's calendar appointments and contacts.  We decide due to it's unpredictable nature that it is best to sign out of the Google Sync tool, clean up the mess and let the BIS sync take over from here.  Everything is fine again.  A few weeks later, another phonecall.  Calendar and contacts are no longer syncing.  We check BIS, and the contacts/calendar options are no longer present.  WHAT THE HECK?!
So, as you can imagine, either the user lives with no wireless sync, or we have to perform cleanups every few weeks when someone flicks the switch on the back end with no rhyme or reason.
I would love to escalate this to RIM though that is being assumptive that is is somehow their fault.  It is possibly an issue caused by the service providers (Bell, Rogers, Telus) as far as I know.  Can anyone help me pin down this problem?
    Thanks!

The lack of a reply from RIM on this topic and several others that are similar is disappointing.
I replied to another entry that had a similar issue. Rogers was also singularly unhelpful (they recommended I downgrade from 6.0 B2647). In my case, the BB has wireless sync turned on but it doesn't actually sync. the DM won't let me backup the calendar or restore it because wireless sync is on (even when I've turned it off).
Fingers crossed that RIM will fix the issue or at least answer with a workaround. Current workaround is manually syncing BB and online calendar each morning. Not good!

  • Duplicate Contact Records

A Mac user and 3rd gen iPod owner (have been loving it forever). Until recently, synching contacts/calendars has been going just fine.
Today I checked my contact records on my iPod and found that all of my contact records have been duplicated onto the iPod. I went in and removed the iSync.vcf file from the iPod and re-synched and got duplicates again. I checked my Address Book and don't have any duplicates in there.
Double-clicking on the .vcf file on the iPod opens Address Book and alerts me that there are 116 duplicate records that will be updated. I say sure and it "updates" them. If I quit Address Book at this point, then open (again) the iSync.vcf file on the iPod, the dupes are still present.
Any ideas on how to overcome this problem? I searched here but most others with this problem are using Outlook and I am not (using Mail and Address Book).
    Thanks in advance.

mm. yes, i checked for that type of answer right away. i deleted all files in the contact folder except the isync.vcf file. sadly, after synching again, the dupes remain.
not only that, but isync doesn't sync my contacts - itunes does. and "all of the non-isync.vcf files" were only the setup and instructions file.

  • DUPLICATE CONTACTS IN ADDRESS BOOK ON iPHONE

I have duplicate contacts for every name in my address book on my iPhone. This morning, I opened my address book in my AppleBook and erased all duplicates. I synced my iPhone again, and still have duplicate addresses. Can anyone explain the problem and help me resolve it? Thanks

This means you've also selected to sync contacts direct with the Address Book on your Mac via the iTunes sync preferences, which duplicates the contacts on your iPhone.
To remove the duplicates on your iPhone, deselect sync Contacts under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes followed by selecting Apply.
On your iPhone go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
    Select your MobileMe account.
Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. This will erase all contacts downloaded from your MobileMe online address book with a warning message provided indicating this will occur. This will not erase contacts synced direct with the Address Book on your Mac via the iTunes sync process.
Select OK and wait a minute or two for the online contacts to be deleted from your iPhone.
Follow this by turning Contacts back on for over the air syncing. This will provide a merge prompt, which you want to select. This will eliminate the duplicates.

  • How can I get rid of and prevent further duplicate contacts when syncing?

I have checked preventing automatic syncing and any other places that seemed to give me some limiting conrol. But I noted the tiny print today that says when syncing by connection with Itunes, mobile me is also in contact wirelessly. I can't see any place mobile me gives me a choice to prevent syncing contacts. I have already spent hours cleaning up the contacts of my iphone 4 and will now have to do it again. Is the only way not to connect to I tunes? How then can you ever get music and other info into this smart phone?

  • Iphone duplicate contacts

I've seen this topic in earlier posts but haven't found a solution so am hoping maybe someone has figured this out. I have an iphone 4; sync with mobile me and my desktop (imac G4). All of my contacts on the phone have become duplicated. Some of the duplicates have duplicates so for some contacts I have 40 entries. My contact list on the desktop is fine- no duplicates. Why has this happened and does anyone have a solution. In itunes I have selected the option on contacts where I only sync via mobile me and not from the computer. I have restored the phone. Any other ideas?

Not sure where you have looked, but the following has been provided a number of times answering this question.
Syncing contacts over the air with your MobileMe account on your iPhone and direct with a supported address book application on your computer via the iTunes sync process - selected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes will duplicate the contacts on your iPhone.
Deselecting sync contacts under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes alone after the fact changes nothing on your iPhone. Contacts are included with your iPhone's backup, so restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup puts you right back where you started and accomplishes nothing in this regard.
If your contacts are correct with your MobileMe online address book and sync contacts is deselected under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, on your iPhone go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Select your MobileMe account. Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. A warning message will be provided indicating this will remove the contacts on your iPhone downloaded from and being kept synchronized with your MobileMe online address book, and a prompt to save these contacts locally on your iPhone. Decline this prompt. This will not delete the contacts on your iPhone that were synced direct with the address book application on your computer via the iTunes sync process.
Follow this by turning Contacts back on for over the air syncing.
You will be provided a merge prompt which you want to select.
This should get rid of the duplicates and the contacts on your iPhone that were synced direct via the iTunes sync process.

  • 4.0 Duplicate contacts

My iPhone 4.0 has duplicate contacts from my .me account. I've tried the "replace info on this iPhone" on the info tab in iTunes, but I still have duplicates. I don't have duplicated in Address Book (on mac) or Mobile Me. How do I remove the duplicated from my iPhone?

have you tried turning off the sync address book contacts in the info window when the iPhone is connected to iTunes? I have to do this with the calendars too as they duplicate the computer and mobile me. This seems to stop it.
    it's a thought.

  • Deleting Duplicate Contact Group

So... I sync'd my contacts "from my mac" while I was already syncing with MobileMe, and now I have duplicates of all my contacts, and as such I would like to delete the "All from My Mac" group.
In searching for a solution, I found various older posts all of which basically said that you cannot delete an entire contact group on an iPhone. But as the most recent post I found was 6 months old, I am wondering if anybody out there has any new insight they can provide to solve this mildly annoying situation?
    Lance.

To get rid of the duplicate contacts caused by syncing with both MobileMe and your computer:
    1. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > MobileMe account > Contacts > "OFF"
    2. You will be asked what you want to do with previously synced contacts - select "Delete from my iPhone".
    3. Connect your phone to iTunes, go to device page, info tab and disable sync contacts.
    4. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > MobileMe acct > Contacts > "ON"
    5. You will then get message: "There are existing contacts synced with your Mac. Would you like to merge them with your MobileMe account?" Choose "Do not merge."
    6. You will then be asked: "What would you like to do with the existing contacts on your iPhone?" Choose "Delete."
    7. In a couple of minutes your phone will sync back your contacts from MobliMe, without the duplicate copy from your computer.
If you also have duplicate Calendar entries, do the same process with calendars - can be done at the same time.

  • Duplicate contacts

I have set up iCloud as the method for syncing contacts with my iphone and Outlook on my PC. I now have contacts duplicated. Some are 2 copies, some are 5 copies. Now Outlook has the same problem since I set up the cloud. How do I gt rid of these dupes on my iphone and in outlook and keep this from happening again. I had some dupes before today, caused by a previous attempt at icloud, but now I have an even bigger mess. If there were no dupes, I have several hundred contacts. Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Hey, everyone -
I recently got a (used and thoroughly wiped) iPhone which I spent part of today setting up, using iCloud to bring things like Calendar, Notes, Reminders and Contacts over, and iTunes for the music, books and podcasts.  (Of course, in Mavericks iTunes no longer syncs Contacts, Calendar or Notes.)
When I checked the iPhone this afternoon I saw there were two of all my contacts there!  So, I came here - ASC - to scout out some help, found this thread, used the link above to go to Apple Support, which suggested contacting an Apple Support representative.  Specifically, the instructions say "check your iCloud account; if those contacts are also duplicated, contact Apple Support".  My iCloud Contacts were doubled so I got Apple on the phone.  For about 90 minutes!  Spoke with a rep who had not heard of the issue but worked with me for half an hour, then finally handed me off to her manager.  The manager spent almost an hour with me.  We went through a ton of things, back and forth, turning this on, that off, with her using a program that allowed her to see my screen, and finally got things squared away.  We deleted all the contacts within iCloud from via browser, then repopulated Contacts from the MBPro to iCloud, and then to the iPhone again.
My reason for writing this is two-fold.  First, neither of the people I spoke with had heard anything about this issue.  That sounds odd to me when there's a page devoted to it on the Apple Support site.  There is mention of the problem and two different courses to follow, depending on what the customer sees on iCloud.  But neither representative knew this was happening to people.
Second, I'm not certain either I or the manager at Apple Support I talked with understands how contacts in my Contacts app on my MacBook Pro get to my phone - whether individually or in pairs (duplicates).  The woman I just said goodnight to told me because I use a Google e-mail account Google's servers are not only scraping all my contacts from my Mac (entirely likely, though when I access Gmail on the browser, no contacts are shown there) but the Google servers are also preventing iCloud from syncing with the Contacts app on my Mac.  She said Google takes contacts from my computer, sends them to my Gmail account on my iPhone, which is where iCloud eventually picks them up.  And because of Google's actions, iCloud isn't syncing Contacts from my laptop but getting them from my Gmail account on the iPhone!
You're probably saying "this guy is totally misrepresenting what Apple Support told him".  I don't think I am.  I went back and forth with her on this for a while.  I said it didn't make any sense that I would have iCloud, via System Preferences, set up on my MBPro to sync my contacts but Apple could not access them because Google was taking those contacts instead.
Anyway, if anyone actually knows why iCloud has been duplicating contacts I hope they'll post the reason here so if mine double up again I'll realize why.  I now know how to fix the problem after the fact, but not why it occurred.
    - thanks
