Duplicate copies of draft messages

Hi,
I have just sent a couple of emails through Mail and have just noticed that there are 64 copies of one of the emails in Drafts and 35 of the other. It looks like one copy is being saved for every minute that I was editing my email.
How do I stop this from occurring? I have had a look through Preferences and don't seem to be able to see anything.

Thank you. Unfortunately, that turns off a valuable feature that I need. I often start emails in Mail.app and finish them on my iPhone.
In my recent switch from MS-Windows to Mac, however, I'm unfortunately finding that email on the Mac is just has too many issues. After discovering that Snow Leopard has not resolved these, I started using Outlook running in Fusion as my email client today. Sadly, I realize now why Outlook has such a dominate share for work email. It just works. It has some issues. I used to think it had lots of issues, but after using Mail.app for a number of months ... my perspective has changed.
I prefer the Mail.app UI and it's responsiveness, but I've found -- at least in my case -- the number of compromises, manual workarounds and issues like this one (multiple saved drafts, saved drafts for sent emails, etc) slow me down way too much.

Gmail saves Draft messages in Trash

It seems that I when I set up my gmail account in Mail gmail wants to move old copies of a draft message to the trash as opposed to deleting it permanently or just over writing it. Is there any solution to this?

It seems that if I set Mail to not save draft messages on the server my gmail draft box appears again in my mailbox sidebar, whereas it was not visible before. Selecting this mailbox (the draft box in gmail) to be used to store draft messages allows messages to be saved on the server without them being moved to the trash every time a copy of a draft is overwritten.
You just have to
1. Deselect "Store Draft Messages on The Server" in options
2. Select "Drafts" under "Use This Mailbox For:" in mailboxes, when the draft folder reappears under gmail.
It seems that other people had posted on this problem in the forum without actually receiving a solution...

Duplicate copies of read email in Inbox

Saw some similar issues in the discussion archives, but nothing quite like this, so I'm looking for help.
Whenever I start Mail -- or when clicking from another Mail folder to my Inbox -- four identical duplicate copies of an email appear. (Don't think it's important, but the message is a cannot-deliver-message email from a postmaster account).
I can delete these emails (and they stay in the Mail trash), but the next time I click on my Inbox, they're back. They're not coming from my POP server -- I don't leave messages there, and this happens even if Mail is offline.
I don't see how any of my Mail rules could be causing this.
Any other suggestions? Please??!?

Make sure first that the messages have indeed been removed from the server. Choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window. Does Mail display there the messages that keep reappearing?
If the messages have been removed from the server, you may be able to get rid of them in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X).

Draft Messages

The other evening I started composing an e-mail that I planned to send later so I saved it as a draft because I was underground (on the subway) when I started it. Upon retrieval, I noticed there were two draft copies saved --- so I added more content to one and sent it off.
The problem is that I cannot delete, nor move the remaining (draft) message because I keep getting the notice that I can't perform whatever action I'm trying; i.e. -- 'You cannot delete this message' or 'You cannot move this message to the spam folder' with the OK button appearing.
Is there any way to zap this message because I have no use for it -- or maybe I need to scrutinize the settings to insure that I don't have some odd setting on that locks drafts unnecessarily?
Thoughts on how I can delete this message, anyone?

It wasn't an "Exchange" issue as the server was POP. It mysteriously resolved itself (albeit weeks later) and I was able to delete the msg

Draft Message

Problem Statement : While Drafting a Message, If I select multiple contacts in the "To" and draft message also. How can I save draft message.
Expected Solution : If I press go back, it should automatically show me in all messages list as "Draft Status".

To Sync Draft messages from your Nokia phone to your Nokia Suite,
1. Click on the Messages option in the suite.
2. Under (messages in Nokia), select Drafts.
3. The draft messages will all be listed on the center window.
4. Select all the messages you plan to sync; Click, hold and drag them to the Drafts folder on top left (ie in the Suite).

Draft Message multiple attachments not displayed or sending

When creating a draft message with mutiple attachments, they are displayed in the preview window but opening the message only displays a single attachment. Sending the message will only send the single attachment. Closing the message window and previewing from the draft folder will display all attachments again although they will disappear when re-opening the message.
The same problem occurs on two separate machines of work colleagues. All attachments are Word documents.

Nick, I'm using an old version of Word so I'm not sure if this applies, but my Word attachments never open in preview. Are you sure one of them is not a PDF?

How to Delete duplicate contacts in the messaging app?

I set up a new email account, and was trying to send my contacts to the new account. In doing so I did not get the contacts to sync with the new account, but they did duplicate in my contacts app and my messaging contacts app. I can not find a means to delete the duplicate contacts in the messaging app. I stopped by Verizon at Best Buy, and they told me that there is no way to delete the contacts once they are in the messaging app. I can't believe that.
There must be a way to remove the contacts from the messaging app. Please help.

I ended up going to Best Buy, where I got my LG G3 Verizon phone. The Tech tried everything to correct the duplication, but could not find how to do it. He deleted everything, and went back to factory settings. Darn if the duplicates didn't come back.
He went to my Verizon account, and went to the Verizon Cloud. Clicked on Contacts, and there were all the duplicate contacts. He deleted the duplications, leaving the original for each contact. BINGO the problem was solved.
I am using the Standard Messaging instead of Verizon messaging Plus. The Tech said that if I had been using Using Verizon Messaging Plus this may not of happened. I just down want the added cost of Messaging Plus.

Edit as new not working with draft messages?

Occasionally I want to send two similar messages at the same time. I write one message and save it as a draft - usually at this stage without any addresses specified.
I visit the Drafts folder and use Edit as New to open the draft message as what I expect to be a new message, and then make the changes necessary (including a modified subject) to create the second similar message. I then save the second message as a draft.
When I return to the Drafts folder, the second message has overwritten the first. Edit as New does not appear to work correctly in the Drafts folder ......
I can create two similar drafts by starting a completely new message (with Write), and then manually copying the subject & contents of the original draft. However this is a cumbersome process .....
Please can Mozilla be modified so that Edit as New allows multiple draft messages to be created correctly?

Thanks for your feedback. I've looked at the bug report you identified and added my vote to the system.
I have previously tried using Templates for this issue. However, my messages are usually sent to a mailing list. I have found in the past that the mailing list is expanded when the message is sent, and my templates contained the expanded list (which meant that any addresses subsequently added to the mailing list were ignored).
I don't think I've actually tried creating the template without any addresses, even though this is how I currently work with my drafts. I'll do some more experimenting - it might provide a neat solution to several related problems.

How to get rid of duplicate copies of Mail in inbox?

Actually, I have two separate questions that both relate to Mail version 1.3.11 running on an I Mac G5 using 10.3.9. I had Total Access which is earthlink.net's software configure this program, Mail, when I recently upgraded to DSL with them. Now, I'm getting duplicate copies of email in my Mail program. I may have accidentally chosen something which I now can't locate in Total Access. Does anyone have a clue as to how I could go back to just getting one email rather than duplicate copies?
The other question is: is there any incompatibility between this version of Mail and DSL? I know that may sound odd, but we're having intermittent service and think it's probably a routing problem. However, I notice at times when I want to go on the internet and check the mail, the Mail app freezes and I have to perform a force quit. Then when I want to go to google say, my connection is gone. It's not gone for good, but it makes me wonder if there's some glitch between the Mail program and Total Access. I've asked Earthlink.net and they say "no," but I'm asking all of you because I'm not convinced.

I then lost all my Draft messages created before Lion install, and only the 3 newly created draft message are here and editable.
As I have a Time Machine backup I've been able to verify that on the backup disk all my Draft messages are there.
I reversed the problem by copying the Draft messages from my backup Mail library to the new Lion Mail library, then doing another Mailbox Rebuild, and I can now list again my Draft messages and view/edit them.
This means that during the Lion Mail update you can loose mails...
and I haven't been able to find those lost mails in any of the "Mail Lost+Found" folder created by Lion Mail update.

It's not clear just what you mean.
If you're backing-up your Mac, via the Time Machine software, to a Time Capsule or external HD, then yes, by default, Time Machine will copy everything the first time. Subsequent backups will copy only what's new or changed.
If you mean, can you back up other data on a Time Capsule, no, not with Time Machine. It can only back up TO a network location, not FROM one.

Recently, I have discovered a problem when sending an email using the Groupwise API that the draft message created before delivery is placed in the Trash. Before it seemed that the draft message was emptied from trash. Has something changed (using versions 7 and 8)? Or, is there a setting I need to change in code?

Duplicate Copies of Files

Whenever I try to import files into lightroom from drive C:, LR seems to go into a loop making duplicate copies of all the files
in the directory I'm trying to import from.
This behavior seems to extend to trying to delete files from the directory where all the photos are stored usinf winodws explorer, if I try to select more
than one file using the 'ctrl' key in explorer, the files are copied in the same directory. Using LR 1 and Windows XP.

I don't quite understand the question; the only way a file can be saved with the same name in the same folder (directory) is if it's saved as a different file type (i.e. with a different file extension).
So you can have fred.jpg and fred.tif and fred.pdf all in the same folder, but trying to save any one of them with the same extension will bring up the warning dialogue asking if you want to replace the original.
Saving as a copy will modify the name to fred copy.jpg for example.

Opening duplicate copies of the same File in CS4

I have recently upgraded some of my customers from CS3 to CS4 and I have noticed that when I open a document that was last opened in CS3 i can open the file more than once and they get listed as tabs. If i make changes to the the first open document and save it, the changes do not effect the other open copies of the file.
however once i have saved the file in CS4, if i try and open the document again it simple brings up the already open file in Indesign.
Is their any way I can make this the default behaviour for all documents, as a number of my clients have complained that they have accidentally opened the file more than once and they save the document and close it down and when they close the duplicate copies down and click save it overwrites all the work previously done.

I'm not sure what you want to change the default behavior to, but I'm pretty sure there's no way to change it. This is no different than the way previous versions opened old-version files, except that CS4 shows you the multiple, same-named files as tabs instead of as separate windows. If you want ID to behave exactly as it did in previous versions, you can turn off the tabs in preferences (Edit > Preferences > Interface > Open documents as tabs).
Why do you want to open multiple copies of the same file? If you're converting from CS3 to CS4, why not just open the CS3 file and Save As to a new name?
Keep in mind that CS4 H&Js slightly differently than CS3. You can expect to see some minor text re-wrap going from CS3 to CS4 (but not until you start editing a story). It's always a good idea to finish CS3 jobs in CS3, start new jobs in CS4.
