Duplicate copies of read email in Inbox

Saw some similar issues in the discussion archives, but nothing quite like this, so I'm looking for help.
Whenever I start Mail -- or when clicking from another Mail folder to my Inbox -- four identical duplicate copies of an email appear. (Don't think it's important, but the message is a cannot-deliver-message email from a postmaster account).
I can delete these emails (and they stay in the Mail trash), but the next time I click on my Inbox, they're back. They're not coming from my POP server -- I don't leave messages there, and this happens even if Mail is offline.
I don't see how any of my Mail rules could be causing this.
Any other suggestions? Please??!?

Make sure first that the messages have indeed been removed from the server. Choose Get Info (⌘I) from the Action menu (gear icon) located below the mailboxes list in the main Mail window. Does Mail display there the messages that keep reappearing?
If the messages have been removed from the server, you may be able to get rid of them in Mail doing Edit > Cut (⌘X).

  • Missing Read Emails in Inbox after they are a few days old?

I recently hooked up my AOL IMAP email account to work with Apple Mail. I think i set it up properly as it seems to have been working fine sending & receiving for the past week. However I am now noticing now that the read emails left in my inbox to follow up on are in fact disappearing from the inbox & the entire email application after they are aprox. 2-3 days old. Is there a way to stop that from happening?

An AOL email account must be created as an IMAP type account with the Mail.app or with any other email client such as the Mail.app.
An IMAP type account's Inbox mailbox in Mail and with other email clients is synchronized with the server. There is no setting in Mail to automatically remove messages from the server for the Inbox mailbox for an IMAP type account.
This is done by AOL. You can check with AOL but I don't believe there is an available setting at the server to prevent this from occurring when accessing the account with an email client such as the Mail.app.
To avoid this, create and utilize a user created "On My Mac" location mailbox or mailboxes which are stored locally on the hard drive. When moving a received message from the Inbox mailbox for an IMAP type account to a user created "On My Mac" location mailbox, the transferred message is stored locally on the hard drive and is also removed from the server at the same time.
This will prevent losing any received messages before AOL automatically purges the account's Inbox mailbox at the server after a designated period of time.

  • Duplicate listing of same email in Inbox

I have an intermittent issue of having email info duplicated in my inbox (one email with two identical listings). When this occurs, clicking on one listing, then the second, sets up a red highlight on the listing not chosen. The duplicate listing problem will appear, then disappear over time, only to return. Not all items on the inbox list are involved.
I have re-installed the OS (10.6.3) and applied the 10.6.6 Combo
The computer is an MBP 15" Intel Core 2 Duo about 4 years old.
If I delete one, both disappear.
I have searched the forums and found issues involving MobileMe, but I haven't found the specific issue I face.

Jim, I have the identical problem and you will see my 'Question' just above yours under the name of 'Kananaskis'. There is another user who also had the identical problem and she references it as 'looping'. Hers was major.
I have consulted with a professional Mac person and he says its the ISP. They have spent hours trying to resolve the problem and now claim it is MacMailer version 4.4. However, I have gone through all my settings and will do a major logging of the e-mails that come in duplicate. Lately, it has been intermittent whereas for 2 weeks it was consistent. Mostly the same person's e-mailing me. However, the ISP's support e-mails have come in duplicate as well.
It looks like between the two of us we have to find out if it is the MacMailer program or our servers. I'm on satellite in Ontario, Canada.
I shall check the Forum to see if others respond to our postings. Mine's be up since February 9th.
Let's hope this inconvenience can be resolved.

  • TS3276 duplicate emails in inbox

I have 10+ copies of same email (dplicates) in all my email accounts, via appale mail app.   email service provider only show one of each on their system.  so apple mail must be doign something to duplicate.  any ideas?  thank you.

so apple mail must be doign something to duplicate.
No, Mail isn't doing anything to duplicate messages. You haven't given us any information to work with as far as what Apple products you're using, the type(s) of email accounts you have setup, or even if these messages are exact duplicates (in every way) of an email you already received, and if they all came from the same firm or person.
We need details in order to be able to provide a solution.

  • How to get rid of duplicate copies of Mail in inbox?

    Hi,
Actually, I have two separate questions that both relate to Mail version 1.3.11 running on an I Mac G5 using 10.3.9. I had Total Access which is earthlink.net's software configure this program, Mail, when I recently upgraded to DSL with them. Now, I'm getting duplicate copies of email in my Mail program. I may have accidentally chosen something which I now can't locate in Total Access. Does anyone have a clue as to how I could go back to just getting one email rather than duplicate copies?
The other question is: is there any incompatibility between this version of Mail and DSL? I know that may sound odd, but we're having intermittent service and think it's probably a routing problem. However, I notice at times when I want to go on the internet and check the mail, the Mail app freezes and I have to perform a force quit. Then when I want to go to google say, my connection is gone. It's not gone for good, but it makes me wonder if there's some glitch between the Mail program and Total Access. I've asked Earthlink.net and they say "no," but I'm asking all of you because I'm not convinced.
Thanks so much for your help!

  • Multiple copies of same emails?  Help!

Hi all - I am getting about 50 copies of each email coming in - I have almost 400,000 emails in my inbox now - cant delete them or anything.  I deleted and then added the account again and no help there.  Any ideas?  Provider says everything looks OK which I must agree with because my mac laptop ha the same email account and I have single emails.  It is only on my imac desktop.  Any help would be great!
      Thank you!

Were you able to resolve this problem? I have the same issue, but on a macbook pro.

  • Multiple copies of same emails

    Hey,
My problem started few days ago, I received multiple copies of same emails (about 5 copies/email). Now I tried to delete those copies using the plugin (Remove multiple messages) but it doesn't seem to delete. Still shows same amount of emails (about 35000), about 28000 needs to be deleted, in my inbox folder.
So when I try to get new emails, it says hard-drive is full etc... it isn't full. Webmail works great, but only have the latest 7days emails.
I'm using POP. please help to fix this fast.

Were you able to resolve this problem? I have the same issue, but on a macbook pro.

  • Email app has failed. Copies of large email are being continually generated.

Since trying to send out a large email ~40Mb, too large in fact, my email application no longer works. I keep getting socket 993 errors. Copies of the email appear in various email folders, and keep duplicating themselves, seems this is a failsafe to help me not lose them when they fail to send but it just compounds the problems. And I can't seem to get rid of them. Whole computer is now running more slowly, seemingly because of all this. Email still working fine on Imac and smartphone.

Have now found answer by spending hours researching and playng around with settings. Why Apple does not just put everything back in an App like Mail and then tell you how to opt out I'll never know.? It seems that we are all expected to spend our lives sussing out what has been tampered with, whereas if Apple left things as they were when creating a new oerating system that is far less hours than millions of us having to do it for them on every single computer.
In Mail  'View> Colums > Size.
You have to do this clicked onto Inbox and then again in sent to get it in both.

Why does Mail send two copies of my emails?
    Thank you.

  • Multiple Copies of Composed Emails in Trash

I am using Mac Mail with OS X 10.8.2 with my Gmail account.  When I compose an email it keeps quite a few draft copies of an email I am composing in the trash folder.   The longer I take to compose the email the more copies there are.  For example in an email I recently compose there were eighteen copies in the trash folder and one completed copy in the sent folder..  The copies are slightly different as drafts are being saved to the trash folder as I am composing the email.  Is there any way to keep this from happening.  It is annoying because when you go to trash you see so many slightly different copies of an email that wasn’t actually deleted, but was composed and sent.  Thanks in advance.

I have this issue too. Very annoying.

  • Move email from Inbox to Local Folder using Message Filter moves header only, not contents.

I created a Message Filter to move email from Inbox to a Local Folder based on Date. The email headers were moved, but not the contents. Since I'm using IMAP, all the emails were deleted from the server.
I searched for similar problems and I followed one suggestion to "repair" one of the target Local Folders, but that made things worse. Now the header information (Subject, From, Date (now set to the date the transfer was done, not the email received date) is all blank.
The Local Folder properties indicate the email is contained in
    mailbox:///C:/Users/Ted/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/c65xcqqf.default/Mail/Local Folders/Archives.sbd/2010
I can see the messages from other Local Folders here, but the ones "moved" are empty.
    Should this location be changed?
Is there some way to recover the email contents?

  • Unread Emails in Outlook 2010 Clients shows both UNREAD AND READ emails when connected to Exchange 2013 Server SP1

We recently upgraded to Exchange 2013 SP1 with a client user-base of Office 2010 Professional Plus / Outlook 2010 SP3.
All Unread Email favorites folders show both Unread and Read emails, just like the inbox. Removal of the folder and recreating yields the same results, as does creating a custom folder. However, in Outlook 2013 there is no problem.
Is there a patch or hot fix for this issue? Or does anyone know how to fix this issue so that the UNREAD EMAILS SHOW UP IN THE UNREAD FOLDER AND NOT INCLUDE THE READ EMAILS?
    Thank you!
    Kim Parker-Polito / Newhall Land

    Go down to Search Folders
    - Right click on Search Folders and create New Search Folder leave default "Unread Mail1" and click OK
    - Right click on the new “Unread Mail1” folder and choose “Customize this search folder”
    - Click on Browse
    - Select the checkbox for “Search subfolders”
    - Press OK and OK again.
    - Right click on old "Unread Mail" Folder and delete.

Does time capsule make duplicate copies of the files those are already exist in it?

It's not clear just what you mean.
If you're backing-up your Mac, via the Time Machine software, to a Time Capsule or external HD, then yes, by default, Time Machine will copy everything the first time.  Subsequent backups will copy only what's new or changed.
If you mean, can you back up other data on a Time Capsule, no, not with Time Machine.  It can only back up TO a network location, not FROM one.

Just upgraded from Curve 8520 to Curve 9360, and I'm a little disappointed at the moment. Firstly, the battery doesn't last half as long, and secondly, its sending duplicate text in an email.

What it really sends is : Hi, how are you?Hi, how are you? </div>

This is the first time I have come across this issue and I have been unable to recreate this here in the office however as you mention this has happened on two different devices it doesn't sound like the phone.
Please could you ensure that you are using the latest software for your device.
After doing some research I found a similar article that affected Gmail accounts, please could you try the below method and let me know how you get on.
Open up the "Settings" tab within your Hotmail account. Enable "IMAP" under the "Forwarding" section. After completing this process, you will need to reintegrate your Hotmail account with your BlackBerry.
