Duplicate database FOR STANDBY DORECOVER which point of time

Hi,
please clarify to which point of time option DORECOVER will recover standby database 10.2.0.3
- to start of duplicate command time
- as far as archivelog are provided ?
- some other option :)
Regards.
Greg

The name logged in the controlfile when the ArchiveLog was created !
(Thus, even if you keep changing the log_archive_dest for a database -- e.g. to switch between two different filesystems -- Oracle maintains the fully qualified path name).
OT :
However : not related to your DUPLICATE FOR STANDBY ..... but, for example, when doing a RECOVER USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE : if the archivelog filename is not in the controlfile (as the archivelog is "future" to the controlfile backup), Oracle generates the file name from log_archive_dest and log_archive_format, although here, too, you can override the generated name with a SET ARCHIVELOG DESTINATION in RMAN and LOGFILE clause in SQLPlus RECOVER.

Both of my database are 10gR2 and Linux is the operating system.
I am trying to create a standby database for my production database.
I have matched the directory structure of primary and standby database and there is no conflict. Directory permissions are also set.

  • Duplicate database for standby from active database

I'm running 11.1.0.7. Has anybody ever duplicated a standby database from active database and the active database being a physical standby open for read only with active dataguard instead of a primary dataguard database?
The key here is location. The primary is located at a remote site where network bandwidth is inadequate for fast copy of database. The active standby database is at same site where I would like to build the new physical standby.

I don't think you can, because "You cannot CONNECT RMAN to the standby database and then use DUPLICATE ... FOR STANDBY to create an additional standby database " and you can't fake it out by getting a controlfile from the primary because the controlfile has to match up with the backup and can't be a standby.
But I'm wondering if you could failover to the standby, duplicate, fail back, then... oh well, that will never work either, incarnation problem.
Snapshot standby? Could one back it up, then flashback restored new standby, change dbid? I would guess there would be an SCN problem, but don't know enough about it.

    Hello All, Need your assistance
We are creating a physical standby database (standalone) from 2 node RAC database, OS =RHEL5 and DB =11gR2

  • DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE FOR STANDBY NOFILENAMECHECK DORECOVER;

    Hi
Im a setting up one node physiscal standby for 2node 11.2 rac primary, what does DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE FOR STANDBY NOFILENAMECHECK DORECOVER; do exactly?
does it do restore controlfile for standby , restore database; recover database?
    I executed the command at about 2pm and the backup of primary was taken 1pm ( primary is on asm, i used this backup device type disk format '/u02/%U' database plus archivelog;
backup device type disk format '/u02/%U' current controlfile for standby; )
does this mean I will have to to restore any archivelogs that are generated after 1pm and manually copy them to standby ? or that data guard is smart enough to go and find them ?

    Hi,
the command will duplicate the target database and create a standby database (including standby controlfile) from the backup you have taken.
Then it will do the recovery with all archivelogs the standby system has access to.
When you setup data guard in the next step, it will detect which archivelogs are missing and the "GAP" resolution will kick in, transferring all archivelogs missing to bring the
standby database to the same timestamp.
With 11.2 I would recommend to specify "from active database" additionally, since this will not restore from backup, but restore from the primary database directly via. network.
This does not only save space, but will also recover to a more actual point (hence requiring less "GAP" resolution when you setup dataguard later).
    Regards
    Sebastian

Can primary and standby database have the same SID name?

    Hi,
Permissions Issue on STANDBY machine?First problem I see is the sysdba password must be the same on both sides (target and auxiliary dbs).
    From the documentation.
The source database and auxiliary instances must use the same SYSDBA password, which means that both instances must have password files. You can
create the password file with a single password so you can start the auxiliary instance and enable the source database to connect to it.Check all prereqs for the standby db duplicate here.

    Here are the details:
Primary is 11.2.0.2 RAC database  on an Exadata platform
Standby is 11.2.0.2 Single Instance database (same patch level as primary) on a Red Hat Linux box
This is an ASM to ASM duplication.
This is not unique to this database.  We tried another database and go the same behavior - all datafiles clone successfully with the exception of the system tablespace/datafile.
We have traced the RMAN execution and it seems to fail when it is trying to assign a NEWNAME to the system tablespace/datafile.
We even issued an explicit SET NEWNAME command but RMAN ignored it.
We also shutdown the primary and started is up in mount mode thinking that something had ahold of the System Tablespace/datafile.
We also opened up the network firewall to allow permit any,any traffic.
    We increased the max_server_processes
and added TCP.NODELAY=yes to the sqlnet.ora file.
There seems to be some artifact present in our Primary System tablespace/data file that is preventing it form being cloned.
checked all alert files grid, asm,  and dbhome - no abnormal messages.
We are in the process of restoring the database from a backup but we would prefer to get this working using the 'Active Database' methodology

I successfully created the standby database using RMAN backup and recovery.
I started the managed recovery.  Archive logs are being sent from the primary to the standby ( I can see them in ASM), but the standby is not applying them.
I get the following messages in the standby alert log...

  • Structuring a Business Area for Reporting Periods and Points in Time

    Dear all,
I'm in the process of designing my first business area for discoverer.
The database is for people staying in accommodation over various periods.
(Anything from individual days to periods of 15 years!!)
The reports I'm producing fall into two categories:
    (a) Reports on periods of time such as:
Accomodation days during a year broken down by Region
Trend of accommodation days per month during a two year period
    (b) Reports on a particular point in time such as:
Number of people in accommodation on a particular day
I'm trying to work out how to structure the business area.
If I think about requirement (a), I'm inclined to create a view which
splits up periods into one month chunks (the smallest period I think I need).
By this I mean having a view which gives me a row for every month for which any period of accommodation is active. This makes reporting on a monthly basis fairly easy.
If I think about (b), I'm inclined to create a view which leaves the accommodation periods as single rows and then calculate a boolean field which indicates whether that accomodation is active on the date in question.
It seems that these two requirements need different structures in the business area. Maybe it's best to create two folders which draw on the two different views.
    Any thought would be appreciated.
    Regards
    Suhada

    Hi,
As you would probably expect, it all depends on your requirement and the table design.
You can create a date hierarchy in Discoverer that contains the day, month, year levels and this will make it easy to create reports with totals aggregated at these levels.
However, if your table contains, for example, the start and end dates when people move in and out of accommodation, then you will need to have a period table so that you can report on the months between the start and end dates. The period table will list all past and future months and you can join this to your data to obtain totals for all the periods.
If you need to have reports that display zeros or nulls for periods where there is no data, then you will need to outer join your data with a period table.
The decision on whether to use views or folders and joins in the EUL depends on the complexity of your data model. If you need to join many tables together to produce a single report, then you should consider putting some or all the joins into database views.
    Hope that helps,
    Rod West

    Hello;
Changing my answer - you can use repeat DUPLICATE to do this :
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmdupdb.htm#BGBEFJHH
As an alternative you could move the RMAN backup and then roll it forward :
    http://www.visi.com/~mseberg/duprman2.html
    and then :
    http://www.oracle-ckpt.com/?s=incremental&op.x=0&op.y=0

  • Error while creating standby database for ebs prod database

    Hi,
We are getting error while trying to create a standby database for EBS database by using RMAN DUPLICATE commands,
    Steps followed:
1.) Backup the primary database (Ebs PROD db). This was done on 12-Mar-2012
***RMAN backups are scheduled to run @10:00 pm every night. Flash Recovery Area has been configured and backup is taken at this location
    everyday.
2.) Tar the backupset, autobackup, archivelogs etc in FRA .... and copy this to the target server (STANDBY).
*** Copy(oracle rdbms binaries and FRA) completed @12:00AM on 14-Mar-2012
3.) Tried to create standby database by using RMAN duplicate on 14-Mar-2012
    RMAN> rman sys/sys@PROD auxiliary /
    RMAN> duplicate target database for standby dorecover nofilenamecheck;
After, some time the RMAN DUPLICATE process errors out with,
ORA-19563: header validation failed for file
We are not sure about the cause of this error. While searching in Metalink, we got several notes (ex, 352074.1) but all the causes stated for this error
are not applicable in our case. We double checked our instance to confirm this.
We have also found that in PROD database there are 65 datafiles and after the RMAN DUPLICATE errors out in the targer server (STANDBY) the RMAN managed to restore 51 datafiles before erroring out.
    # Please note PROD database was also backed up on 13-Mar-2012. We have a suspicion that backup on 13-Mar may be a possible cause for this error but we are
    not sure.
Need suggestions if there can be any other possible causes???
We are in a fix and it would be appreciable if we get some quick suggestions..

    Rupdipt

When opening the file to be placed in a copy or backup set, to be inspected, or used as the target for an incremental restore, its header was not recognized as a valid file header for a file of the indicated type (data file, archived log, or control file) belonging to the current database.
Kindly Ensure that the correct files are being specified for the copy or backup operation.
