Duplicate database issue

Dear all,
When the target database is in use(many users are connect to the database), is it can do the duplicate database action?

You need to copy only the backups from Host A to Host B under the same directory structure where you had taken the backups on Host A if not, you can catalog the backups on Host B.
No need to copy the archives from host A to host B. Hope your doubt is clarified :)Hi,
If i does not copy the the archives from host A to host B,how can i do the recovery. when duplicate database ,there will be raise the error.

  • Duplicate database from active database in 11g?

    Does anyone know if it's possible to clone a database from stby by issuing RMAN duplicate database FROM ACTIVE DATABASE command in 11g?
    I know it's possible from primary to create stby.
    Thanks in advance

  • Oracle EE 11.2.0.2 RMAN Duplicate interesting issue - is it a bug?

    Hi,
    Oracle EE 11.2.0.2 RHEL 5.7 x86 64-bit RACOne Node database (3 - nodes).
    I was working on a process to refresh out test environment with prod database backup from tape and i have done it many times. Most of our environment is in 10gR2 and have few on 11.2.0.2 RACOne Node databases. The recovery basics in Oracle world is to use archive log sequence + 1 (provided we know before hand the backups metadata) and it works as expected until 10g but with 11.2.0.2 RMAN duplicate, i stumbled upon an issue where RMAN is trying to restore an older controlfile auto backup and then rolling forward from there. Its easy to explain with an example..
    1) I have an archivelog backup, say sequence 20 to 30 on Feb 22nd @ 10pm and a controlfile autobackup at this time c-20120222
    2) I have a FULL backup + archive log until sequence 50 on Feb 23nd@ 6pm and a controlfile autobackup at this time  c-20120223
    3) I am using RMAN duplicate to refresh UAT with Feb 23rd backup and use "set until sequence 51 thread 1"I am using following RMAN commands to do the duplicate on UAT server (executed on UAT server)
    rman target sys/***@PROD_DB  auxiliary /
    RMAN> run
    2> {
    3> allocate auxiliary channel c1 device type disk;
    4> allocate auxiliary channel c2 device type disk;
    5> allocate auxiliary channel c3 device type disk;
    6> set until sequence 51 thread 1;
    7> duplicate target database to UAT_DB;
    8> }RMAN duplicate automates all that we do manually but the recovery mechanism is same. In the above scenario, it connects to target database, gets the backup metadata and restores controlfile from c-20120223 , restores the datafiles and recovers till sequence 50 . This has been the scenario until 10g in every RMAN duplicate process i have tried and is expected from Oracle.
    Issue:
    In 11gR2 (11.2.0.2), for the same duplicate scenario above, it is restoring the controlfile from autobackup c-20120222 and restoring the datafiles from Feb 23rd backup, recovering till sequence 50 and doing the duplicate process. The thing to note here is that the controlfile autobackup c-20120222 does not have any record of the FULL backup that occured on Feb 23 rd and since RMAN duplicate is having a connection to target database, it knows the backup metadata and hence it is able to complete the recovery.
    For clarification, Thread 1 & 2 of RAC One Node is not an issue here for sure. Did anyone experience this issue? Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Shiva

    AJ,
    I have already tried that scenario, i renamed the c-20120222 and kicked off the same duplicate process but it failed and it kept on "fail-over to previous backup" which is expected. The thing is, RMAN look's for the control file autobackups from newest to oldest (unless you gave a point in time) and duplicate command is not doing it.
    Tycho,
    I agree there are new features but to support them a change in recovery mechanism is something i would disagree that Oracle would do. Active Duplication is not based on backups, so that is out of question here. For backup-based duplication, we can try with connections to target or targetless, catalog or catalogless or none. I have already given an example with the target (same with target + catalog) and i expect the same behavior with only catalog connection. Now, i have tested the example without connecting to target or catalog and below are my observations...
    For the same backups i mentioned in the very first email, i got the following info....
    rman target /

  • RMAN duplicate database suddenly slow

    Hi Everyone,
    I posted at wrong forum last time, sorry about that.
    I used RMAN to duplicate database to different box in the same local network area. Here are the scenario:
    boxA: target database (PROD) -- 250G
    database:Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
    OS:Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition
    boxB: cloned database
    database:Oracle 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
    OS:Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 Edition
    After prepared necessary steps,listener and tnsnames,etc, I run the following scripts:
    C:\>rman target sys/[email protected] auxiliary sys/[email protected] catalog rman/rman
    RMAN>RUN
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 1 TO 'D:\oracle\undb\system01.dbf';
    .... (some set newname omitted here)
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 15 TO 'D:\oracle\undb\RMAN01.ORA';
    SET NEWNAME FOR TEMPFILE 1 TO 'D:\oracle\undb\TEMP01.ORA';
    # to manually allocate three auxiliary channels for disk issue
    ALLOCATE AUXILIARY CHANNEL aux1 DEVICE TYPE DISK;
    ALLOCATE AUXILIARY CHANNEL aux2 DEVICE TYPE DISK;
    ALLOCATE AUXILIARY CHANNEL aux3 DEVICE TYPE DISK;
    DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE TO undb
    LOGFILE
    GROUP 1 ('D:\oracle\undb\redo01.log') SIZE 100M REUSE,
    GROUP 2 ('D:\oracle\undb\redo02.log') SIZE 100M REUSE,
    GROUP 3 ('D:\oracle\undb\redo03.log') SIZE 100M REUSE;
    database duplicated successfully last week.
    Monday, I created another database in boxA (testdb) and used the similiar scripts (just made necessary changed, database name,file names,etc), and the duplication also successful.
    Yesterday, I tried to duplicate PROD, did the exactly same thing as Monday,
    everything was very slow,
    RMAN>report schema; took over 30 minutes,
    RMAN>list backup;took another 30 minutes,
    then I delete testdb in boxA, nothing better.
    I have tried from boxA, also tried from boxB, things were similiar.
    (when test from boxB, I input: rman target sys/[email protected] auxiliary sys/[email protected] catalog rman/[email protected] )
    when I input:
    RMAN> report schema;
    and checked from Enterprise Manager,
    SELECT RECID , STAMP , THREAD# , SEQUENCE# , FIRST_CHANGE# LOW_SCN , FIRST_TIME LOW_TIME , NEXT_CHANGE# NEXT_SCN ,
    RESETLOGS_CHANGE# , RESETLOGS_TIME FROM V$LOG_HISTORY WHERE RECID BETWEEN :1 AND :1 AND RESETLOGS_TIME IS NOT NULL
    AND STAMP >= :1 ORDER BY RECID
    the query is running for a long time, my V$LOG_HISTORY has 18688 rows, select count(*) from V$LOG_HISTORY took less than 1 second.
    I am wondering what is the reason?
    Can anybody give me a clue?
    Thank you very much.

    Thanks Alan,
    Hardware spec:
    duplicate database server CPU: 2x1995 Mhz ,RAM:4G, hard disk 500G
    production server CPU: 2x2993 Mhz ,RAM:5G,hard disk 900G
    the production server is better than the duplicate server. the production only run Oracle 10g server, the duplicate server is brand new and nothing is runing except Windows and Oracle software only.
    I noticed that when in peek hour, RMAN is really slow, no matter which box I run the RMAN, when in non peek hour, it's reasonable.
    Is there anything I can do on the RMAN side?
    Thanks again

  • Duplicate database command fails with RMAN-06023

    Hello,
    I am trying to test out the duplicate database command in RMAN and am running into some issues.
    I did a backup of my test database, copied the backup files to a second server, and now I'm trying to run the duplicate command and I get RMAN-06023 errors for all of my datafiles.
    I did crosschecks on my backupsets and they showed as available. They are in the same location on the new server, with the same permissions. There are no recent archived logs, as this is a very quiet environment.
    My commands and output (edited slightly) were as follows:

    Hi,
    Where is you RMAN catalog? I think you forgot to connect to it.
    To duplicate a database check that folowing applies:
    1-the auxiliary instance is mounted
    2-the listener for the auxiliary db is up
    3-the backup pieces that RMAN is going to restore ARE AVAILABLE on the
    secondary/auxilary server with SAME NAME the have on the primary server (you can use NFS to avoid the copy of the pieces from primary to auxuliary box)
    Remember to be conected to both: target and auxiliary db.
    I have extracted the folowing lines from an RMAN script I used to create an standby database with the DUPLICATE command (the RMAN catalog was in the primary db controlfile, and the command was run on the primary server:
    $ rman target / nocatalog auxiliary sys/pwd@standbycard log=crCARD.log
    RMAN> duplicate target database for standby nofilenamecheck dorecover;
    I hope this helps

  • ABAP/4 Open SQL array insert results in duplicate database records in SM58

    Hi Everyone,
    I am testing a file to idoc scenario in my Quality system. When I passed the input file, the mapping executed successfully and there are no entries in SMQ2 but still the idoc wasn't created in the ECC system. When I have checked in TRFC, I am getting the error  ABAP/4 Open SQL array insert results in duplicate database records for IDOC_INBOUND_AYNCHRONOUS function module. I thought this is a data issue and I have tested with a fresh data which was never used for testing in Quality but even then I am getting the same error.Kindly advise.
    Thanks,
    Laawanya

    use FM idoc_status_write_to_database to change the IDoc status from 03 to 30 and then  run WE14 or  RSEOUT00 to change the status back to 03
    resending idoc from status 03 ...is a data duplicatino issue on receiving side...why do u need to do that ?
    Use WE19 tcode to debug
    In we19
    1)U can choose your Idoc number in existing Idoc textbox
    2)Press execute
    3)u will display ur Idoc struct
    4)Dbl click on any field then u can modify its content
    5)PressStd Outbound Processing Btn to process modified Idoc

  • Error while duplicate database from one server to another server

    Hi there,
    I am practicing duplicate database from one single database server to another server. Hardware and driver path on 2 machines is the same. Here are my steps:
    --------------------- Clone site:
    1. modify listener.ora with content:
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC1521))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost.localdomain)(PORT = 1521))
    ADR_BASE_LISTENER = /u01/app/oracle
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = orcl)
    (ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1)
    (SID_NAME= orcl)
    ENABLE_GLOBAL_DYNAMIC_ENDPOINT_LISTENER = ON
    2. stop and start listener again, message show like :
    Service “orcl” has 1 instance(s).
    Instance “orcl”, status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service…
    The command completed successfully
    3. create pfile from spfile.
    4. shutdown and startup nomount with pfile is new pfile create from step 3.
    --------------------------------------- Source site
    1. modify tnsnames.ora with content like:
    VVCOREDB =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost.localdomain)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = vvcoredb)
    ORCL =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = 10.254.1.235) (PORT=1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
         (SERVER = DEDICATED)
         (SERVICE_NAME = orcl)
    2. run command from rman like these:
    rman> connect target sys@vvcoredb
    rman> target database Password:
    rman> connect auxiliary sys@orcl
    rman> auxiliary database Password:
    rman> DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE to orcl from active database spfile nofilenamecheck;

  • Rman clone duplicate database from active database

    Hi All,
    I read document saying that rman can duplicate database from active database (prod) to a remote server, so long as you configure listener and tnsname.
    I am working toward it.
    I met a problem, which is when i bring up auxiliary database in nomount mode, the listener service of that auxiliary database is in BLOCKED status, and throw out ora-12528 error when I rman auxiliary sys/pass@clonedb. Isn't nomount mode the mode which auxiliary db is supposed to be in?
    (ora-12528: TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections)
    Thanks,
    milic

    You may have run into the same problem like I did recently:
    The (UR=A) clause in tnsnames.ora is intended to work with a dynamically registered handler so the use of SERVICE_NAME versus SID is preferred.
    ORA-12528: TNS listener BLOCKED - trying to duplicate database
    Also for further problems:
    RMAN 11gR2 duplicate database ORA-17627 ORA-01017 RMAN-03009 ORA-17628

  • Duplicate database in 11g

    Hi all,

    RMAN-06172: no AUTOBACKUP found or specified handle is not a valid copy or piece
    I have got stuck with this error, while iam trying to duplicate database using rman from active database clause, I have checked in backup location for target and the autobackups are still available.
    thanks in advance.

  • Duplicate database

    hello friends,
    my requirement is that, i am running some
    sites with oracle database. but , at same time i want to configure a mirror database on
    different host. suppose in case primary
    database fails then we can up the mirrored database. my objective is site should not go
    to downtime even for a single second. and
    when primary database will be up then whatever transaction was made to mirror database that should be transfered to primary
    server.
    so, in my problem , till what extent this
    duplicate database of recovery manager will
    be helpful to me. if any other third party
    software is available for my requirement
    then please let me know.
    thanx,

    I don't think it is possible.
    If you need this level of availability,
    look at something different from Oracle,
    for example, Tandem systems (from Compaq)
    and their nonStop SQL database. However, a Tandem system costs roughly 10 times more
    than a similar Oracle system.
    If you need to use Oracle, look at hardware-level solution rather tan software-level solution. For example, EMC has SRDF technology - hardware-level mirroring
    of your hard disk. Software-level solution
    for high availability include Parallel server
    (requires clustering software and external disk array) and standby database.
    In my experience, achieving high availability is a matter of having enough finds for the project - you need a second
    (third, fourth) system for development/testing/UAT, mirror all disks, etc.
    RMAN has nothing to do with high availability -
    it is just a tool for backing up databases.
