Duplicate Drop Box Folder in Public Folder

Hi!
I'm using Lion 10.7.2. The Drop Box folder appears twice in my Public folder:
in English = Drop Box
and in French, default system language = Boîte de dépôt
If I delete one of the folders, it reappers later on.
Are you experiencing the same problem? Have you find any solution? Thank you!

It appears that
the [English] Drop Box folder doesn't have a .Localise file
while the [French] Boîte de dépôt does have one.
How to proceed?
ask for hidden files to be shown—I use the superb Onyx utility
go to the Public folder
delete the [French] Boîte de dépôt folder
copy/paste the .Localise file into the [English] Drop Box
magics happen: Drop Box is now called Boîte de dépôt

  • Dropbox folder inside public folder not working

    Hello,
In my previous office, we used the dropbox folders (located in the public folders, part of the Mac OS) to exchange files between several mac computers and I have not been able to do the same here at my home between 2 macs.
Is there a step-by-step guide to assist in properly setting up the drop box in each computer?
I have experimented with setting them up with no luck.
    Thank you in advance,
    grodr

There is nothing to set up. Other users can see the folder (but not open it) at Users/yourname/Public/ - they can drop files into it but cannot open it. Only you can open it; and the same in reverse applies with other users' Drop Boxes.
You may find the Shared folder (inside Users) more convenient as everyone can open it to drop files in or copy files out.
All this applies over a network as well as between users on one computer.

  • Dropbox folder in Public folder

I have deleted my dropbox account, but on my Macbook in a folder called Public, there appear a folder called dropbox. when i delete it it still appears next time i start my Mac. Why?? Can you help me. Maybe delete a link on my former account

The folder "Drop Box" inside the folder "Public" has nothing to do with the "Dropbox" service, despite the name similarity. The "Drop Box" folder is provided by Apple for other users on your computer or your local network (if there are any) can pass files to you securely. (They can drop files into the folder but not look into the folder, kind of like an old-fashioned suggestion box or a postal collection box.)

  • Exchange Public Folder Migration - Public Folder Mailbox "LockedforMigration"

    I've recently started a SBS2008 (Exchange 2007 - Latest SP3) migration to Exchange 2013CU6.
Most of the Migration has gone to plan however I've been following a few guides on the Public Folder migration and have seen more errors and time spent than what it is worth.
I've now decided to abandon the Public folder migration as there wasn't really anything of importance in the old 2007 Public Folders, and just setup a new Public Folder Mailbox and PF Folder on the 2013 environment, however... as I started with the migration
the 2013 Server is stuck in "LockedforMigration" mode and will not allow me to create a new Public Folder.
Is there anyway to forcibly 'unstuck/release' the "LockedforMigration = True value.
Or can I just start decommissioning the old 2007 Box and that will force the unlocking of Migration flag
By no means is this the only guide, but here is what I've been following if that will help
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj150486(v=exchg.150).aspx
    Thanks Ian

    Hi Ian,
According to the error message above, please make sure you are running the command as Administrator, and make sure the Administrator is a member of Organization Management Group and Server Management Group. Then try to run command to release "LockedforMigration
    $True".
Since Public Folders on Exchange server 2013 can't be coexisted with legacy Public Folders within an Org, you should delete Public Folder Database from legacy Exchange server 2007 first, then create a new Public Folder Mailbox on Exchange server 2013.
    Thanks

  • I have one Mac, two users.  I wish to share a iBook with my wife, the other user.  I move a copy of the book folder to "public" folder, and in her account "added to library".  Does not show even though cue claims it is in her library.  No book.

I find sharing books within my one computer near impossible - not easy as music is.  It used to be easier, but now with iBooks and some other changes this has become difficult.  Also - I can use the search feature to find the "books" folder, and use "Get Info" to find the supposed address, and then not find that folder location at all using a manual method stepping through Finder.  So a second question is:  where is this file hiding?  It is not under User/Library/Containers.... as claimed by "Get Info".  It seems that if I buy a book, the family can use it to put on their iPad.

Part of me understands the need to have purchases protected.  I hope this does not get more and more complicated for "within family use".  It is nice to buy music and share it with my wife, as we used to do with books prior to the iBooks "upgrade" - which mostly consisted of making it impossible to share books.  Thanks though for your response;  I was hoping for some luck and that maybe I had missed some simple step.  To Apple:  lighten up.
Best regards and thanks again for taking the time -

  • No Public Folder

I am just starting to use my mini for home networking, and I do not seem to have a Public Folder to drop files into to share. The help menu says it should be under my Home in the finder, but there is no folder there called Public. How can I get one?

Do like what BDAqua said, just make a folder in your home directory named Public.
If you launch /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app, and type ls -ld Public (those are lower-case L's, not upper-case i's) you should see something that reads similar to
    drwxr-xr-x 5 etehall staff 170 May 23 Public/
If you have something different than "drwxr-xr-x" then type chmod -vv 755 Public
To create a drop box in your Public folder, navigate in Finder to the Public folder and make a new folder and name it Drop Box. Then, back in Terminal.app, type cd Public and chmod -vv 733 Drop\ Box (include that "\" before the space; it was not a typo). Then you can ⌘q Terminal. You might need to reboot to make the icons look right. But, that should get you your public and drop box folders restored.

  • What is drop box for

I notice that there is a folder called "drop box" in my public folder. What is this used for?
I use dropbox but this is different.
    Thanks

This folder can be used by other users logged onto your System  to share files with you like a P.O. Box
It has nothing to do with the dropbox service on the internet .

  • Sharing the hard drive, not just the drop box

    Hi,
Is there anyway to share the whole hard drive across a network rather then just the drop box and the public folder?
Apologies if the post has already been posted.
    Many thanks

    Hi Beaudie,
Use the freeware Share Points to share any directory over a network.

  • Receiving files in Drop box

What is a trustedmethod to have files sent to my Drop Box by another party?

Are you referring to the paid Dropbox service? If you are, I suggest visiting their site for more information:
    https://www.dropbox.com/help/90
If you are referring to the Drop Box in your Public folder then you will need to enable file sharing so that your system is visible on the network and listed under the 'shared' section in the finder window. Other people can then connect to your system to gain access to the Drop Box inside the Public folder so that they can deposit files in your Drop Box.

  • Privileges/permissions issue with drop box/archive folder

    Hi there,
I'm having an issue with the permissions on a folder on my iMac. I'm running Leopard. Here at our office, I have my computer set up just like everyone else; within my drop box I have an folder titled "Archive", and within the archive folder I have a folder named after the boss' external hard drive. When the files are on her hard drive, she moves them into this folder so that we know they're completed and can be burned to disc.
For some reason though, she can no longer access this folder in my drop to drag anything into it. One day I found something online that told me to set something through my system preferences. It worked, but I can't remember what I did! The folder seems to have "relapsed" and once again, she can't access it. "Get Info" doesn't work, no matter how many times I change the permissions- it always says everyone should be able to read and write. I've also tried changing permissions and shared folders in the "Sharing" section of system preferences. It just doesn't seem to want to go. I think she might be running Tiger; is there a possibility that that's the issue?
Any thoughts? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I would check the system preferences / sharing / file sharing .. highlight file sharing (leftside) and setting to edit changes will be on right side for 10.6.x S Leopard. I would look for a somewhat similar setup in Tiger for its file sharing settings.

  • How do i create a new folder in public workspaces?

i cannot seem to create a new folder under workspaces in the 'all public files' tab. the "New Folder" button is greyed out. i get these results when logging as myself or as orclAdmin. any guidance here is appreciated. thanks!

When you create a workspace with a public folder that public folder will be automatically linked under Workspaces in AllPublic.

  • Exchange 2007 Public Folder Database cannot be deleted

We are in the process of decommissioning exchange 2007 server from 2007 <-> 2013 coexistence.
All user MailboxDatabases have been sucsessfully removed, however PF Mailbox databases return an error.
“The public folder database 'Public Folder Database' cannot be deleted”
Object is read only because it was created by a future version of Exchange: 0.10 (14.0.100.0). Current supported version is 0.1 (8.0.535.0).
I am suspecting the presence for 2 OAB is the reason why we can’t delete Public folder database from 2007 server.

    Questions:
How can I check if both exchange servers are still OAB generation servers?
I am not sure if the previous service provider moved OAB,  can I potentially cause any problems by executing
    Get-MailboxDatabase | Set-MailboxDatabase -OfflineAddressBook "\Default Offline Address Book (Ex2013)"
Move-OfflineAddressBook -Identity "Default Offline Address Book" -Server EX13
      3. Is it safe to delete 2007 OAB ?
    Thanks

  • Exchange Contact Public Folder Migration Question

I am migrating our Exchange 2010 environment to Exchange 2013.  We are migrating all of our public folders into SharePoint before we continue with the migration.  Most of our public folders are calendars, so it has been a pretty cut and dry migration.
We do have one public folder that is designated for emergency contacts.  It contains the personal contact information for the CEO as well as other high up execs and managers from around the company.
Here is my dilemma.  I need to migrate this out of public folders, but it still needs to remain in Exchange somewhere.  I need to accomplish the following
    1. Be able to view all user contact info, not just email address
    2. Be able to apply permissions to the folder so that only certain individuals can gain access to these contacts
    3. Be available to sync with said user's mobile devices, so that they have 24X7 access to that information
I am not real sure how to accomplish this and am open to any ideas.  I am very new to SharePoint, so not sure how you might be able to leverage SharePoint to do the same thing.  Any information that anybody could provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    --Scott

    Hi Scott,
Since this is Exchange Server Forum, if you have any problem on SharePoint, I suggest ask SharePoint Forum for help so that you can get more professional suggestions. For your convenience:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/home?category=sharepoint
Here is some information related to Exchange for your reference.
Based on my knowledge, Exchange 2013 is different from previous version of Exchange server. For example, public folder. Public folder in Exchange 2013 doesn’t based on public folder database, it is a mailbox level, called public folder mailbox.
We can follow following article to perform the public folder migration.
Use serial migration to migrate public folders to Exchange 2013 from previous versions

  • Public Folder in exchange server 2013

We are using an legacy application developed in Classic ASP. In this application we are rendering the message items in the public folder on the exchange server 2003.
Now we are going to migrate our exchange server 2003  to exchange server 2013.
Do exchange server 2013 have public folder? Is this migration have impact on the public folders usage.
Please let me know for any clarifications.

There will be no co-existence support for Exchange Server 2003. In your scenario, you will have to migrate twice, once from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 or 2010, then again to Exchange 2013 or another option you have to proceed that by using any third-party
migration tool to accomplish this task in one go. When you preparing to migrate mailbox, you can have a look at
exchange server deployment assistant to see the current recommended steps for your configuration. A good resource for swing migration direct from exchange 2003 to 2013 can be explored at
    here.
In the same way, You cannot migrate public folders directly from Exchange 2003. You will have to move all public folder databases and replicas to Exchange 2007 SP3 RU10 or later. No public folder replicas can remain on Exchange 2003.
I would like to refer on couple of links mentioned below. It will help you better to clarify the scenario further :

  • Drop Box folder in the Public folder not showing on the network

    Hi everyone,
I am running a MacBook Pro 2010 running OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion. We have an office and multiple mac computers connected to our network. For us to transfer files we use the Drop Box folder inside the Public folder (We do not use the dropbox website/service). We would use the finder and click on the computer on the sidebar, open the Drop Box folder and drag files in with no hassel. However my Drop Box folder is not showing up when other users are trying to access my computer via the network.
My file sharing is on and I have attached an image with the settings I am using. I have compared these settings to other macs in the office that have a working Drop Box folder and they match. Hope you guys can help me.
