Duplicate eliminator for new Photos

Is it safe to use duplicate eliminators designed for iPhoto on the new PHOTOS? ANy recommendations?

I only know of two duplicate finders for Photos:
Power photos   http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/powerphotos/   or Introducing : Duplicate Annihilator for Photos  http://brattoo.com/propaganda/
Both tools are the successors to highly recommended tools for iPhoto, and the developers have been very reliable.

My iphone storage is full due to my large photo library. As I want to go on taking more photos, if I back up my phone to icloud, can I then delete all my photos from my iphone to make room for new photos? Or will the next time I back up lose all those previously backed up as it is a 'new' set of data?
I just want to find the easiest and safest way of not losing all my photos while being able to take more than my iPhones storage worth as it is already full - can someone help me please? I thought icloud was the solution to not uploading my photos to the mac but I'm not sure if the way it's going is working and don't want to delete photos or lose my phone and then find out what I'm doing isn't actually storing my photos permanently. Thanks

    Hey EmilyEliza,
As you are clearly aware, it is important for you to have backups of your important data, including all of these photos you are currently keeping on your iPhone. While it is possible to use iTunes or iCloud to do backups of your iPhone, the problem becomes how to access those backups if you have deleted the photos from your iPhone. Once you have done the backup and then removed the photos from the iPhone, the only way to access the photos is by restoring the backups to the phone. See this article for information about backups made from the iPhone -
Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes - Apple Support
If you want to easily access the photos once they are off of the iPhone, another approach to this would be to import your photos from the iPhone into an application on your Mac, such as iPhoto. To learn how to do this, use the steps in this article -
Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or Windows PC - Apple Support
Once those photos are on your computer, it is still important to back up those photos to somewhere else, so you can be sure of their safety before removing them from the iPhone. Your Mac’s Time Machine application is one method of doing this -
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac - Apple Support
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Happy computing,

  • HT2509 How to use duplicate cleaner for I Photo?

I downloaded duplicate cleaner for I Photo and could not get it to work.
When it posted to go to Library in finder and I do not have library listed but I do have pictures listed (which are files) so it would not work when I cloicked to activate the clean up.  How do I get I Photo library to my finder so I can get Duplicate cleaner to work?

Consider dupeGuru.  I have heard of users having good results with it.

  • Does uploading iPhoto libraries from multiple Macs with the same photos create duplicates in the new Photos app?

I have 4 Macs and I had the same iPhoto library on each of them. When I chose to turn on the iCloud Photo Library on each of them, each Mac, each one of them uploaded the library to iCloud Photo Library.. Now it appears that I have many duplicates in the new Library. Is it adding each of the 4 libraries to the mix? It's a real problem as I have 25,000 pictures - 70GB in my library. So paused the upload on 2 of the Macs about half way through in case it is creating duplicates, until I get some answers. Any help would sure be appreciated.

I'm in the same boat as well. I'm doing one mac at a time and seeing how it works. Howev the upload is so slow, who knows when it will be done.

  • ICloud storage for new photos app

iI've just updated Yosemite and the new photos app is asking me to upgrade my storage, now if I do this will it upload all my photos on my iMac to the cloud including external drives connected to my iMac?

    Are you certain?
From Get started with Photos for OS X - Apple Support
"If you change your System Photo Library, the contents of this new library will be merged with the contents already in iCloud."
But presumably this merge is two-way i.e. the contents already in iCloud will then be merged into the new System Photo Library? It's not clear, but that's how I understand it.
In any case, http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/comments/announcing_powerphotos may well offer library merging in a post 1.0 release.

  • Is it safe to update iPhoto 8.1.2 to 9.5.1 or should I just wait for new Photos app with OS X Yosemite ?

iPhoto has always been slow and less than reliable to use. Have never updated it because of concerns with updates. Will current pics in iPhoto get transferred to new Photos app with OS X Yosemite somehow or will I be stuck using both apps?

I do experience slowness/unresponsiveness and freezing in iPhoto,
    Two points:
    1. These sound like a damaged Library file and you might try repairing it.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
and from reading numerous posts, I am quite certain that many users have had similar experiences.
The problem with this is that the folks who don't have any problems never post, so you're working from a skewed sample.

    TD

  • How to use iphoto after yosemite 10.10.3, that have disabled it for new photo app?

My iMac did install new yosemite 10.10.3 telling me that new Photo app was "best ever" but now I can't open old iPhoto library because it was in old format of iPhoto library and the iPhoto app was now unusable because new Photo app. Can you help me!!??

and the iPhoto app was now unusable because new Photo app. Can you help me!!??
Which version of iPhoto do you have installed?  With Yosemite, MacOS X 10.10.3, you need to update iPhoto to version 9.6.1.  Only that version is fully compatible.
Apple stopped selling iPhoto, but anyone who bought iPhoto from the AppStore or updated it to a version sold at the App Store (iPhoto 9.4.5 or later) will be able to reinstall from the App Store by downloading from the Purchases tab.
If you have any version of iPhoto, that has been updated from the AppStore and is associated with your Apple ID, try to reinstall from the "Purchases" page.
Unhide iPhoto, if it is hidden on your Purchases page (See this link: Mac App Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases)
Trash the incompatible iPhoto version, but don't empty the Trash.
Reload your Purchases page at the App Store with ⌘R
    Then download from that page.
The step "Trash the incompatible iPhoto version, but don't empty the Trash."  must not be skipped. If Spotlight sees a version of iPhoto installed, the AppStore will try to update instead of reinstall, which does not work.

  • Clearing out to gain storage for new photos

I've recently purchased PSE 8 with the 2 GB online storage.  Have deleted almost 300 MB and each time I finish deleting pictures, the available space is less.  How do I clean out the storage space.

I have the same question - but am not an early adaptor and am a grandmother, so I'm asking more basic questions. You say "just Restore it" in itunes. Is there some sort of functionality on my itunes library regarding restoring my old ipod for a new owner? Will the new owner need to set up as a new user in order to start their own itunes library? How can I delete my settings/set up on the old ipod so the new user doesn't get access to my itunes library? Any assistance is appreciated.

  • Best practices for importing archived/new photos into LR?

    Hi All,
New to LR 2.7.  After countless tutorials and online chats, I am still confused as to how LR manages image files.  It's like HS algebra all over again!
Is the LR designed and intended for managing all of your photos or just those that need editing?
Do you import all photos for one giant library?
Is it best to save photos on external drive first then import to LR?
For photos that are saved on an external drive, is it still necessary to copy them to a folder on your computer before importing or can you work directly from the drive? Is there a risk here?
If you are importing directly from your memory card into LR, do you first need to save them to the external drive to avoid losing the original images?
Looking for simple step by step routine to follow for archived photos and for new photos
    Thank you for your help!!

    All of them.

    I do.

You can store the images where you want, internal, external or network, and you can import directly from a card to that location.  LR won't delete the images off the card, you have to do that separately.

  • Show number of new photos with faces found

Photos should show a number of new photos with faces found on each face at faces page.
This would help me not to go over every person and check for new photos.

  • RAW JPEG PROBLEM  I'm new to Aperture and neglected to mark RAW JPEG pairs when I imported (from iPhoto).  Now I have two images for each photo.  Help!!  How can I change this?

I’m new to Aperture and neglected to mark RAW+JPEG pairs when I imported (from iPhoto).  Now I have two images for each photo.  Help!!  How can I change this?

How did you import from iPhoto? If you saw the Import panel with raw -jpeg pairs, then you probably did not import your iPhoto library as library, but as files, and then you will see plenty of duplicates - previews, thumbnails, originls, edited versions. If that should be the case, it would be better to delete the import from iPhoto and to import your iPhoto library again, but this time using "File > Import > Library".
Only that would require compatible versions of iPhoto and Aperture.  What are your Aperture and iPhoto version numbers?

  • Can I duplicate my Aperture library so I can use one to import into new Photos app?

Hi, I'm using latest version of Aperture and Yosemite. I'd like to try the new photos app but still be able to use Aperture. Can I duplicate the library and just use the copy to do so? Or is there another way that I'm not aware of?
    Thanks in advance.
    John

You must be within the Country with a Valid Billing Address and Credit Card for that Country to use the iTunes Store of that Country...

  • Just did a Mac update yesterday for Yosemite and I can not open a picture in elements with out it crashing.  Spent over 4 hours with Mac and it came down to an Adobe Issue with the New Photo which is replacing the I photo. Elements does not recognize it,

Does anyone know a direct number for adobe that will not cost you to just ask about their program which will not work with a new mac update!

You can do that in iPhoto, too. Just go to the iphoto prefs>advanced, and set PSE as your external editor. Note that the actual editor is not the file at the top level of Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements < version number >, but rather hidden away inside the Support Files folder:
Then you just right the click the photo in iphoto and choose edit with external editor.
If you have the new Photos app, you can't drag and drop, either.

  • How do I make a private album in new Photos for IMac?

How do I make a private album in the new Photos for IMac? I had one in iPhoto, and now that all the photos migrated to Photos my private album is not hidden anymore. Thanks for help!

Photos does not hide photos in albums at all.  Photos can only be hidden from Moments, Collections, Years.
If you want private albums, move the photos in questions to a different Photos Library, that you keep hidden.
