Duplicate email account in iMac OSX 10.8.2

Can I delete one of these two duplicate email accounts without affecting the other?

Should say that not much can go wrong if you have a backup, right?
How identical are they? If not, delete the "right" one...

  • Can't get rid of duplicate email accounts itunes imports from outlook

    Hey everybody,
iTunes imports my email account information from Outlook and for some reason it finds duplicate email accounts. I only have one .pst file which only has one of each email account attached to it but iTunes finds duplicates.
So in iTunes, when I tick one of a duplicate account and click apply the other duplicate will tick itself.
I have no idea what is going on and I'm tempted to reinstall outlook, itunes, delete my pst file, restore my iPhone and just start all over again!
But I really don't want to do that.

Have the same problem. Sometimes end up with in excess of 10 duplicated calendars (they show as "all mobileme calendars" but do not have the individual calendars listed) on my iphone although the correct calendars only appear once on both mobileme and Mac. Have never had sync turned on in itunes.
A tiresome workaround to delete these from the phone is to go into settings/mail,contacts,calendar/your mobileme account and turn calendars off. Say yes to delete calendar on iphone. When this is finished turn calendars back on, then exit and open the calendar. One duplicate should have been removed. Repeat ad infinitum.
Problem is the duplicates keep coming back (even without connecting to the Mac). Anyone with ideas for a permanent solution?

  • Iphone 4s showing duplicate email account @me and cloud

I just purchased a new Macbook Air and was setting up the cloud services on my phone and on my new MB Air.  I've had the phone for a while, and had set up the email account on the phone as my mobile me account.  When I set up the cloud service on my MB Air and on my Iphone 4s, I was asked to merge the account from the mobile me to the icloud service.  I followed all the instructions and everything worked like a charm - contacts updated to my devices, photos etc.  However I just noticed a problem on my iPhone, which now when I look at my email icon, it says 66 emails, when I open it up, it showing 2 accounts, both say iCloud, however one is the actual iCloud icon and the other has the mobile me cloud icon.   When I went into my settings on my iphone, I figured I'd just go and delete the mobile me email account, however it says (iCloud - account says my mobile me email address).
I'm not sure i want to delete the account, because if I uncheck the Mail (turn it off), all of my emails go away.  When I turn it on, it shows duplicate email accounts.
I must be doing something wrong, but have been racking my brain for the last hour or so and I just can't seem to figure it out.
    Any help???

I actually worked it out - I deleted it and started it back up again - not sure why it did it in the first place, but I did find others who had the problem and explained how to fix it:

  • How to organize/configure email accounts on iMac

I'm a brand new Mac user, and I really would appreciate some opinions on how to efficiently organize/configure my email accounts.
-previously on Windows XP at home and work, I had an 'office email' address and and a family email address at home that I could access from both computers Iie: all mail went to both locations off the server). Now, I have the iMac at home with a subscription to MobileMe (which I also find a little confusing), the office laptop on Windows and I will have an iPhone in about a week.
My thinking is that I would like to be able to access both work and home emails on the iPhone, and now keep the home and work computers separate. Will this create too much redundancy on the iPhone? I'm just now sure how to best set this up, so I'm wondering what you other users out there do. Also not sure if MobileMe would be useful or best suited for this.
    Thank you,
    Rom

Since you already have Mobile Me, you can keep all your mail "there" (in the "cloud" as they say -out there on Apple's servers) and access it from any of your devices / computers, or any web browser on any computer at any time.
You don't need to "keep" your mail in any once place. Let Apple handle that, you can send & receive from your iMac, your iPhone, wherever. All your devices / computers will "sync up" with Apple's Mobile Me servers and keep everything up to date for you.
Also, if you have exiting accounts that you don't want to stop using, you can use Mail on your iMac and Mail on the iPhone to send & receive from any POP or IMAP mail account (I suggest IMAP -it's the kind that syncs mail where POP just downloads copies to whatever computer you happen to be on). You just need the appropriate server / login information.
For example, I have 4 email accounts for various reasons. 2 Gmail, 1 Mobile Me, and 1 on a domain name I bought (myname.com). ALL that mail is accessible on my iMac, my MacBook and my iPhone at any time.

  • TS4002 Why do I have duplicate email accounts on my iPhone5?

I don't understand why I have duplicate accounts appearing on my phone.  Can someone tell me a quick way to fix it please?
    Many thanks
    Kit

    Hi,
If you only have one account in "Mail, Contacts, Calendars", then you are looking at  something other than accounts. (There is no other way to add an email account on iPhone.)
Are you sure that you are not seeing either Mailboxes, or contact groups, perhaps, rather than accounts?
Where in Mail do you see these "accounts"?

  • Duplicate email account

did the 10.7.4 update yesterday and now I have a duplicate mail account with all the same email.  I had my incoming mail server set to 535box.bluehost.  Now I also have one set to mail.mywebhost.  I tried deleting the duplicate yesterday but it screwed up all the mail in the other account.  Any suggestions on how to elimate one without messing with the other?
    Thanks,
    Bruce

I had two of my mailboxes duplicated after same update, so deleted the duplicates in mail preferences.
However, the original mailboxes then lost all email content and showed only headers, so I rebuilt them both and hey presto - entire contents lost of both mailboxes. Not happy .
    Anyone else?
Better still, has anyone got any idea how I might recover the lost email? Have tried the hosting server but it's all disappeared from there too.

  • Free email account for iMac

I have an iMac and also an ISP and access my email from AOL. I would like to stop using AOL for my email and go to a free service and don't want to use the address from my ISP because I am going to have hi-speed access in a couple of months through my telephone company and won't need an ISP. I don't want to have to change my email address so many times in such a short time.
I tried to log on for "amtp.mac.com:sheilakobs", but don't seem to be able to come up with the correct password and don't know how to find it.
Also, can you tell me something about Mac OS X Mail 3.0 - Email Program?
    Sheila Kobs

If you are running 10.4, you should also have the Apple Mail.app version 2. It can work with a free email account that uses POP/IMAP server access in addition to web-browser based access. Gmail has that option, but it is not usually enabled for a new account, you have to go into the account settings to enable this feature.
You should be able to find some help from gmail.

  • Trouble adding a second pop3 email account to iMac

getting my new iMac.  Added gmail email account fine but I can't not add a second pop3 comcast account.  Keeps asking for pwd and will not store in the account profile.

    Hi Rhoaddog,
If you are having difficulty adding a 2nd email account through the Mail app, try it through the System Preferences, Internet Accounts.  Of course, please verify your password is correct.
This article shows as OS X Mavericks but it is the same for Yosemite.

  • IPhone duplicates email account

    Hi,
My IPhone keeps duplicating email accounts since last week.
I normally have 7 email accounts (5 googles IMAP, 1 institutional POP and 1 hotmail).
It started last week when I now I had 8 account, one being the exact copy of a already existing account (a google one). When I was receiving a new email, both account would automatically show the new email.
I restored the IPhone from ITunes, and it came back to the normal situation.
Then three hours after restore, I had 12 email accounts. All the google IMAP were duplicating. And now my IPhone gives me an error message saying that one of the google account does not have the proper user name or password (when it does, I re-entered it without succes).
I searched on this forum and on google and did not find anything about this problem.
Any one had a similar problem before?

I have exactly the same problem! Even the email account that won't accept the correct password! iTunes syncs my email accounts with Outlook 2010 on a Windows 7 64-bit pc across to my new iPhone 4S and all except a new email account and the iCloud account have duplicates. I have reinstalled iTunes and deleted and re-added my mail accounts in outlook, all to no avail.
I have no idea what the problems is and am fairly disappointed about this. If anyone has any information please assist.

  • I have duplicate email accounts icons, NOT recieving duplicate emails just two of the same email icons

I had a blackberry curve 8310 with ATT. I transferred carriers and got a new bold 9650 with sprint. I transferred data from old curve to new bold. But the old email didn't work on new bold. So I went to set up BIS with sprint, it added email account that works. But now I have two icons with the same email address. One works and one doesn't so it is confusing when I am selecting address to compose email. How do I delete email icon/account. I hid the icons but when composing email, it still shows two of the same email in the From:

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!!
I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you!

  • Duplicate email accounts?

I switched back to tbird after an unhappy stint with a different email client. My web host (host gator) helped set up things so emails do not load onto my PC. I understand this means the "local" files and directory are not in use and that's great.
I have two email accounts with the same name. Neither will let me change the account settings manually. Says "account with that name already exists."
Can I safely delete the one that shows up on the top?

I took a chance and deleted the top listed account. The place to to that is not to the right in settings, but below the left-hand column -- below the list of accounts.
    Worked perfectly!

  • How can I remove mirrored/duplicate email accounts

I deleted an old account and then added a new account and now I have a mirrored/duplicate set of accounts showing in the left column - each active (with a 40 emails count difference!)
How can I remove the new additions? Thank You.

The account settings do not show the mirrored/duplicate accounts, they only appear in the vertical column on the left.
Using the accounts settings I tried to delete an account and it deleted both my original account and the mirrored one.
    When I re-installed this account - I acquired a duplicate again!
    Thanks for the reply

Can anyone please help - as it is really annoying me every time I open mail I get this same message re this duplicate account!

To add or remove mail accounts in Mountain Lion, first open Mail. Then, go to Mail menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > Accounts, where you will be able to change the settings of existing mail accounts, and add or remove mail accounts.
You can also do it in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars
