Duplicate Email Messages Mail 4.3

Greetings,
I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and using the built-in Mac Mail client 4.3. I subscribe to MobileMe and have my primary mail alias and second mail alias. I use server based rules to manage my inbox.
For the past few weeks, I've been getting duplicate email messages in my inbox.
I have googled this and most of the articles that come back are dated.
Has any one else experienced this?
It has been working fine for months.
I have tried rebuilding my mailbox and have not noticed a difference.
Thank-you,
Derrick

This problem just started-up for me, too. Same Mac mail client; Snow Leopard. I have no rules set. I have two imap accounts feeding the client; only one is misbehaving with the duplicate generation. Need a solution!

  • How to remove duplicate emails in Mail

Does anyone know if a good app that works in Lion that will help me remove duplicate emails in Mail?  There are some options on the web that I've found but they don't seem to work with Lion.

I have found a very satisfactory solution to eliminating my duplicates in Apple Mail, which is to stop using it and switch to Thunderbird.
There's lots that I like better in Apple Mail, but Thunderbird is light-years more flexible in managing your email than is Apple Mail, because Thunderbird is an open platform with excellent Add-ons available, which include the nifty Remove Duplicate Messages: http://bit.ly/tbird-dups. It is stupid that Apple Mail hides duplicate messages in the background & won't allow users to search and destroy them. Frustrating!
As a prologue to that, you need the TB import export Add-on: http://bit.ly/tbirdimportexport
Managing my mail locally on my Mac was a huge project for me, involving integrating tens of thousands of emails. Mail was  from gmail, yahoo, and many years of Outlook PST files.
Now that the project is complete, I'm very happy with Thunderbird to manage my email archives. Though I actually would prefer the Lion Apple Mail interface for day to day use, it just isn't flexible enough.

I continue to get TWO of every single incoming email.  How do I stop these duplicate email messages?

What email 'provider'? If Hotmail (or other provider), see Csound's 'Helpful' reply in Sent items show twice on MAIL (IMAP) and read on in that thread.

  • HT5361 Is there a way to find and erase duplicate emails in mail.app?

Is there a way to find and erase duplicate emails in mail.app?

Mail.app does not have this possiblility acc. to Apple. There are Scripts but not provided by Apple.
A solution can be to use third party software but I prefer Apples own software so have to wait until there is an update.

  • Sending Duplicate emails using Mail and mBox for mac

I have been sending duplicate emails inadvertantly recently.  It seems it's when I use mBox for mac (registered copy) in Mail to use my Hotmail with IMAP.
I hadn't noticed it at first, but now I see everytime I send a mail I get 2 copies in my sent box.  I can turn off the store sent messages on server option to fix it (but that's the whole point of having IMAP!!), or I can turn off mBox for mac and it also seems to work (but then I can't use IMAP!).    I've also tried on the same machine from gmail, and iCloud accounts (MobileMe), and I had no issue at all.  I've also tried 2 different Hotmail accounts, and both of them send double messages every time I send.
I've searched for a loooooong time, and can't find anyone with a similar issue - but surely I'm not the only one?  I think anyone still using a hotmail account will eventually install something like mBox for mac if they've gone Mac recently - as I have.
I checked the mail headers of the 2 mails, and they are quite different (masked where appropriate) -

I'm surprised I can't find anyone else with a similar issue.  I've submitted a support ticket with mBox/fluent factory, but I'm still not convinced it's their issue, and possibly a Mail on Mac issue.
Does anybody have any suggestions?  Thanks for your help!

    @ Kokola
Great staff!!! MBox Fluent Factory is very poor app.
I was having problem with duplicated sent emails and cleaning up my inbox, sent items and deleting emails. Try to contact them via email for over 3 months and never got a reply!
I just used the suggested configuration and my Entourage (email app for MAC) is working perfetcly. I can visualise all my online folders now!
    Thank you so much!
mBox never addressed the issue and the duplicated emails reached new levels of annoyance but the good thing is that Hotmail and Outlook.com finally rolled out support for IMAP.
    Incoming Mail Server: imap-mail.outlook.com
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtp-mail.outlook.com
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/outlook/send-receive-from-app
No more duplication issues once you switch over, and no need for a third party (mBox)software to bridge the missing feature gap.

  • How to eliminate Duplicate Email Messages in my Hotmail account

I've noticed that sometimes when I'm checking my Hotmail inbox on my phone I will have duplicate emails of some messages (but not all). Sometimes it will be 2, 3, 4, or even 5 copies of the exact same message (the number seems to vary depending on the day). Sometimes the duplicates are on a string of messages all from the same time frame while other times I only get a single copy of my emails. I can't seem to figure out the pattern of when I get the duplicates. The only thing I am starting to suspect is that perhaps it has something to do with going from one WiFi to another or from WiFi to the 4G network (that maybe it is downloading the messages each time my phone gets on a different network??) Does anyone know how to fix this so I don't get duplicates on my phone? I don't see the duplicates in the Hotmail account Inbox when I log in from my computer, just on my phone.
Also I can't seem to get to the settings like I could on my Droid X where I could indicate that I want to delete the messages from the Inbox if I delete them on my phone. Is it hidden somewhere or is there a trick to making that work? I don't like having to manage my Inbox in TWO places. I'd like to be able to delete it either on my phone or on my computer and have that message deleted in both places.

Are you using the stock e-mail app?  If so, try going to your e-mail, then clicking the gear (for Settings).  In your Hotmail account, scroll until you find the Incoming Settings, then change Delete E-mail From Server to your preference.

  • Duplicate emails in Mail with gmail

Hi, I keep getting multiple duplicate emails in my inbox. Even the one's I've deleted keep coming back. They appear across my folders and it's really frustrating as I'm unable to stop it. I've checked the discussions but cannot see an obvious solution (unless I'm looking in the wrong place) other than to disable my POP account in gmail settings, which I've done. Can anyone offer any help please?

  • Stop duplicate emails in Mail

How do I stop getting duplicate emails in my sent and draft folders of Mail?  When I send or save an email to drafts it replicates the email mutiple times (sometimes as many as 20 times) in the respective folder.  This only happens on my Mac Book Pro and not my Mac Pro.
    Thanks for the help!!

  • How can I always display duplicate email messages in Apple Mail?

I would like to have Apple Mail ALWAYS display "duplicate" messages without having to click on the duplicates link in the upper right of the message.
Apple Mail identified a series of messages as "duplicates" when in fact they were not duplicates.  I would have otherwise missed out on very important information and the only reason I even knew to look for this was because I saw them on my iPhone.  I want to avoid this issue in the future.

Comfortable with terminal...know how to edit using TextEdit:
Open up a Terminal and use the following commands to change your Mail.app preferences file to an XML format – the default format is binary, and you can't edit this.
    cd ~/Library/Preferences
    plutil -convert xml1 com.apple.mail.plist
Then, open this file com.apple.mail.plist with a text editor of your choice, preferably one that highlights XML syntax, but you can also use TextEdit:
    open -a "TextEdit" com.apple.mail.plist
Now, look for the key called MailAccounts. It's value is an array, with dict children. Here, you'll find all your mail accounts in the order they were created in.
You can now manually move these dict children around. Save the XML file and reopen Mail. Now, your Mail account order will be changed.

  • Duplicate email messages in Mail

    Dear Common Wisdom:
    Hi!
Can anyone think of a reason why I would receive duplicate messages in Mail?
I have communicated with my provider and they see only one message.
Thanks in advance for your assistance!
    kostas

Can you figure why this is confusing Mail?
It seems to me that you are using an IMAP account and storing your messages on the server, but you didn't answer my question as to what type of account you had. IMAP accounts let you synchronize your messages between your Mac and the mail server so they each have the same contents. But you say you're getting duplicate messages, even though your mail provider only sees one--that doesn't sound right at all.
Have you tried rebuilding your Mail index for those accounts, and/or repairing permissions? If not, you should do that to see if the problem continues afterward.

  • Duplicate email messages in Mail.....what could be causing this?

I'll have 2 or 3 or more copies of the same email come in....same # and same time. If I delete one of the extras ALL of them end up in the Trash. So I have to go back to Trash and drag one of them back to the Inbox.
Anyone know what could have Mail doing this all of a sudden? It's been about 10 days this has been happening and I thought that it would go away on its' own.....like it appeared.
    Version - Mail 2.1
This is a recent development. The only thing that I have done with Mail is add another account......a POP account to retrieve messages from my gmail account.

Could you please confirm the number of accounts that you see in Mail > Preferences > Accounts and their type?
Report the names of the files and folders present at the first level of the ~/Library/Mail/ folder.
In order to post the exact file names and avoid typing mistakes, proceed as follows. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. With that folder open, if you’re looking at it in View > as List mode, first collapse any expanded folders so that the Finder only shows the files and folders at the first level of ~/Library/Mail/. Now, do Edit > Select All (⌘A), then Edit > Copy (⌘C), and paste it in your reply to this post.
Before actually posting that information, you may edit it so that the file/folder names do not reveal any details you wish to keep private, e.g. you may replace any real username with “username” to hide your real email address if you wish; similarly, you may disguise any domain names you don’t want to be revealed. Try to be consistent in how you disguise those details, though, as we may need to refer to them in subsequent posts.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Removing duplicate emails in Mail

While attempting to back up my Gmail -- which is at capacity right no -- I accidentally reset the POP setting and downloaded all my mail again.
So now I have 160000+ emails in my mailbox in Mail. I would like to weed out the dupes, and after a bit of Googling, found Mail Scripts (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16217) and started running the Remove Duplicates script.
Everyone said it was slow, but after leaving it running all night it had found only 119 duplicates! Is there any other program that will remove the extra mail, or there some way to shorten the process? It seems like my mailbox is just too big for this script to handle.

Just a thought, but take a look at your Mail Menu "View", select columns, then make sure it has both Date Received and Date Sent checked. Then compare duped messages and see if the date/time is the same on both. I haven't had this problem, but if the Date Received is different on the second copy of the duped email, you might be able to sort on Date Received and mass-delete the dupes...

  • How do I delete duplicate emails in Mail 6.2?

I imported emails from thunderbird, realising I have hundreds of duplicates. Have you any idea how to remove duplicates in Mail 6.2? I tried Mail Scripts but they are not working with Mac OS 10.8.
    Thanks!

Are the duplicates in the same directory? One way to do this would be to use a UNIX shell script, which could compare each of the email files, identify duplicates and delete them.
If you are feeling adventurous, there is a thread in a forum (http://forums.devshed.com/unix-help-35/bash-script-to-find-and-get-rid-of-duplic ate-files-184849.html) that has a pretty interesting looking script at the end.  It does and md5 sum on each file (which should always be the same for identical emails), and then deletes the second file.  (Actually the deleteing bit is commented out, it just prints what it would do if you remove the '#' before the "rm".
The principle looks good - but I cannot vouch for it at all!
    Cheers,
    Rodney
p.s. PLEASE back up before trying anything.

  • Duplicate email messages

Messages are coming into my inbox in duplicate.  I've read requests from others on this problem but haven't found a solution.  Can you help me?

It's a POP account.  As far as I know I don't have any other devices synching.  I just have an iPod Touch that does synch with iTunes and accesses email from my gmail account online but these emails don't come to my inbox.  Don't think I have any rules set up.  When I looked at Rules only "News from Apples" was checked.  I unchecked it but I'm still getting 2 of everything in my inbox.  The problem seems to be getting worse -- no all messages are duplicated whereas before only some were.
When I started this discussion I thought I was using Leopard but remembered that I upgraded to Snow Leopard a few months ago.  The problem seems to have started then (or when I synched my iPod).  I have 2 discussions going on this, one here and one under Snow Leopard.
This is taxing my capabilities at the computer and I'm very frustrated!  I really appreciate you trying to help!

  • How do I stop duplicate emails in Mail?

Big problem in that every email comes in twice or three times in Mail.
On the left, I have both an Imap mailbox listed and MobileMe mailbox, which seem almost identical except Mobile Me has two drafts folders and a sent folder.
Should I get rid of one of these?
    Thanks
