Duplicate Events in my Library?

Opened up iMovie this am and there are two copies of each of my Events in the Event Library. What happened? The only thing I have done since last using it was to drag a copy of each event to an external drive for backup. Would this place an additional copy in the Event Library? There is only one copy on the internal drive where I created and saved the Event.

Happy New Year, Leonie...
...and thanks for helping.
You have probably iPhoto 9.5.1 on your new MBP, since it is MacOS X 10.9, is that correct?
Yes
But how did iPhoto find your Aperture Library to update, if you launched it by clicking the iPhoto application icon? It should have looked for a library "iPhoto Library" in the "Pictures" folder, not opened an Aperture library. How did you direct it to the current Aperture library?
I selected open in iPhoto from the Aperture menu
Can it be, that iPhoto opened an older iPhoto library, that you still had in your Pictures folder, and not your Aperture library at all? That would explain the missing photos and the need for upgrading.
Yes, I believe that is what happened. There was an old (circa 2007, 2008) iphoto library that was restored with the Time Machine backup used to set up the new MBP with Retina.
Then your Aperture library should still be untouched.
Could very well be. I checked my upgraded Aperture 3.5.1 llibrary on my old MBP with Mavericks, the MBP without the latest version of iPhoto, and I see that there are duplicate projects and missing photos in that Aperture 3.5.1 library as well.
Next I will boot that old MBP to Snow Leopard and see if the older Aperture library does not have the issues.

  • Duplicate Events - Why?

When I do nothing more than import photos from a source, such as a camera, in almost every case I get a duplicate event with an identical set of photos in each. One event has the name from the date stamp of the camera (e.g. May 8 would name the event '8') and the other identical folder has is named "original.' I don't move, rename, merge, split, copy or otherwise do anything with the events. I don't add change or move between folders (that's a no-no with iphoto)
What am I doing wrong / could I do better?
    Picasa?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Loads of people have tired or compared picasa for mac. You can read about it on google.

  • Random duplicate events when synching with Google

    Hi,
I have just set up iCal for the first time and asked it to synch with my Google Calendar.  Somewhere between the two systems I have had hundreds of duplicate events set up.  The problem seems to only occur on recurring events.  The new events are sprinkled liberally all over my calendar with no hint of when the original even was set up for.  For example one event occurs at least twice a week from January 1920 onwards, in my original calendar this was set up as an annual recurring event only last year.
When I try to delete the events I am told the request has failed with the following message:
    The server responded with
    “HTTP/1.1 500 Server error code: 4bf55f72”
    to operation CalDAVDeleteEntityQueueableOperation.
Also I frequently find the synching circle is running round and iCal just stops working i.e. can't enter new events or check my calendar.
    Any advice gratefully received!
    Jane

    Hi Jane,
You are getting errors from the Google Server.  This suggests there are issues with the data contained within Google and not in iCal so there may not be much we can do from here.  I would be curious to know if you go to one of those recurring events on Google, does it have an end date or does it go on forever?  Does it have a start date that is odd (you mention 1920...are you sure that you don't see a very early start date on Google.com?)
That said lets try some basics:
What version of the Mac OS are you running on your computer (Apple Menu > About this Mac)?
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.
    Hope that helps.

  • FCPX Says Can't open duplicate event.... but it's not a duplicate?

Hi there, I'm trying to open an FCPX event that I moved to an external harddrive. After moving the event folder, I deleted the original event from my internal drive.
When I try to open the event from the external drive, FCPX Gives me the error warning saying that the event " is already open with the same identifier as..... (so the) the second document cannot be opened..." The directory path it gives for the "duplicate" events is exactly the same. It's considering the same file as a duplicate of itself.
I cannot open the Event. I have also tried opening from backup, as well as moving the backup folder out of the event folder in case it thought that was the duplicate. I have also trashed preferences.
Another odd thing: The project linked to the Event in question is opening fine. All media is connected. But the Event is not showing up at all in the Library in FCPX.
Any thoughts here? Thanks for your help!

You are right to suspect that first, however, there are no other drive connected to my computer when this error comes up, and I have triple checked that the event is not on the eternal.
Besides, reading the warning message, it says that it is looking at a file in the exact same directory as the file it claims is the duplicate..... hmm.... mystery.

  • Importing iPhoto Back Up from DVD - Duplicate Event Issue

i'm trying to transfer the iphoto back ups (created in iPhoto) from DVD to my external hard drive. with the disc in, i create a new iphoto library, name it and import the "iPhoto Library" file from the DVD on to my laptop's hard drive. When i do so, it imports over 3,000 photos, whereas it should only be 2,623. when the import is done, i have duplicate events; it looks as though the events are the original and modified versions.
i don't want to have to reorganize my photos after importing them back in (there are 11 ). am i missing something?

doesn't keep the name, but dragging them one by one keeps them separate. guess that's not too bad; at least not as tedious as having to weed through all the photos.
is there some kind of automator i can use?
why don't the events transfer over? this particular back up is Jan. 2009 thru Jun. 2009. I bought iLife '09 in April. could it be because half the photos were organized with a previous version of iPhoto?
Thanks for your help btw. i really appreciate it.

Not a good idea! The "show duplicates" feature shows "all" duplicate tracks, but you only want to delete the "extra" copies, not the "originals".
I've written a script called DeDuper which can help remove unwanted duplicates. See this  thread for background, including how to delete the extra tracks manually if you prefer.

  • IMovie 10 - how do I move an event from one library to another?

    Greetings,
I have updated all of my projects and events from iMovie 9 to iMovie 10.0.1. They now all sit in different libraries on different external HDDs.
How do I move an event from one library to another library in iMovie 10? How do I copy an event from one library to another library in iMovie 10?
    Thanks,
    John

Simply drag and drop from one library to another.  See:  http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#mov3fa25bae7

  • Duplicate Events on iCal: How to Delete them.

I was having a problem deleting multiple events, particularly recurring imported ones. I could spend hours deleting them only to have them come back as soon as I scrolled a month forward or backwards. Sometimes events would appear 4 or 5 times on each date. It drove me insane.
This is the way to fix the duplication problem. You have to go back to the actual date you originated the event and modify it there. For example if you set up someone's birthday on October 3, 1998 in your calendar-regardless of the format (MAC or PC) you need to modify that date specifically.
I found that there are two versions of the same event on that specific date (10.3.98). They both appear as timed events versus ALL DAY checked events.
    1. Delete the second (or third, fourth, fifth) one first, you might not be able to delete the top one right away, but you will soon.
    2. Once you delete the second (or third, fourth and fifth) the first one becomes a recurring ALL DAY event.
    3. After deleting the lower non-recurring one(s), then modify the top recurring event in some fashion-I found any minor editing or anything really typically fixes it. If you want to delete both events in 98, then this is the place to do it.
    4. If you don't want to delete the entire event altogether, then simply modify the event as you wish and select DONE.
The key is finding the actual date of input regardless of the software you used to create the event.

  • How to remove duplicate events in my ical icloud calendars?

    OS X 10.9.1
I have too much duplicate events in my icloud calendars.
How can I remove them automatically?
Is there any App available that works?
    Thanks

    Thats a good tip Reggie.
For anyone else reading this post, keep in mind that if you see "duplicates" with the MobileMe calendar it may mean you are seeing two separate copies of the same calendar.  Before spending time deleting individual events read this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3505

    Solutions?

No, I never really found an easy solution.  I believe it is an issue with some corruption in the iTunes database on the specific device.  In my case, both my iPad and iPhone now show duplicate stream songs if viewed through iTunes on my Mac, but they show different songs.  A couple years ago I had a similar issue on my iPhone, and Apple support suggested I back up the phone, completely reset it, and then restore it from the backup.  It did work, so I imagine it would probably work for my current issues with the iPhone and iPad.  But resetting and restoring an iPad or iPhone always makes me a little nervous that something will get lost.  When I did reset/restore the iPhone, I do have to say, the restore process was 100% perfect and I did not lose any data at all even though Apple support said I might.  If you try to go that route, I would suggest backing the device up both to a computer through iTunes, and to the iCloud so that you have a double backup.
None of this really resolves the issue with how the iTunes databases are becoming corrupted on the apple devices though, so it is very likely to happen again until they fix it.  I have been unable to determine if there were any specific actions or conditions which caused the corruption to happen in the first place.
Might be worth another call to Apple support, or dropping in the local Apple store if you have one near by.

  • How do I delete duplicate events in my iCal?

Using SyncMate to sync my calendar and contacts from my Droid X to my iMac (MAC Office doesn't work since I upgraded to Lion).  Seemed successful.  However, I now have duplicate events in my iCal.  How can I delete the duplicate events?

    Hello Linda,
Duplicate calendar entries can definitely clutter up iCal.  I found an article that has specifically addresses duplicate birthday entries in iCal.  You can find the steps under section titled "7. Clean up birthdays and use the Birthday Calendar" in the following article:

  • Duplicate events in iCal

I've just started using iCloud and now whenever it updates I get duplicate events in my calendar on my Mac.  I delete one copy of each event and all seems well until the next sync.  Is there a preference that I need to adjust to prevent this from happening?

    Hi Tony,
You'll find iCal Dupe Deleter here.
Thanks for the mention LexSchellings. However i don't believe it will work in this case. If the events are in different calendars then they won't be considered duplicate.
TonyInSF could you answer these 3 questions?
When you look at the calendar list in iCal what sections are the calendars under ("ON MY MAC, "ICLOUD", "EXCHANGE", "GOOGLE" etc.)?
Are all the calendars checked when you look at the calendar list?
Where do you sync your calendars to?
(I'll also mention that iCal Dupe Deleter is donationware. If you do find it useful please donate.)
    Best wishes

  • I have a few hundred duplicates in my iPhoto library, but the file sizes are different.  So one is 1.3mb and one is 567kb.  I want to delete the smaller ones, but short of comparing each duplicate, is there a way to do this?

I have a few hundred duplicates in my iPhoto library, but the file sizes are different.  So one is 1.3mb and one is 567kb.  I want to delete the smaller ones, but short of comparing each duplicate, is there a way to do this?  I've been looking at Duplicate Annhilator but I don't think it can do it.
    Thanks!

I just ran a test with iPhoto Library Manager, Duplicate Annihilator, iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner, Duplifinder and Photodedupo.  I imported a folder of 5 photos into a test library 3 times, allowing iPhoto to import duplicates.  I then ran the 5 photos thru resizer to reduce their jpeg compression but all other aspects of the file the same.
None of the duplicate removal apps found set that was reduced in the file resizer. That's probably due to the fact that the file creation date was being used as a criteria and the resized photo would have a different file creation date even though the Image Capture date was the same.
They all found the 3 regular duplicates and some of them would mark two and leave the 3rd unmarked.  iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner can sort the found duplicates by file size but if the file was edited to get the reduced file size it might not be found as it would have a different file creation/modification date.
iPhoto Library Manage was able to find all duplicates and mark them as such if the file names were the same the the filename option was selected.  Otherwise it also missed the modified, resized version.  It allowed one to select the one photo to save before going to work on the library.
So if a photo has been reduced in image quality or pixel size it will not be considered a duplicate.
