Duplicate Events - Migrating from Entourage to iCal

Upgraded to Snow Leopard, and decided to try and make the big move from Entourage to Mail/iCal.
Mail and iCal have no issues whatsoever connecting to my Exchange 2007 server, but iCal creates two of every event in my iCal calendar. I also get notifications of new events in both Mail and in iCal, prompting me to accept the meeting in both applications.
Given that I'm typically scheduled in 50+ meetings a week, you can imagine how this quickly makes a mess of my calendar. In the meantime, I've taken my Mail account offline, deleted my iCal calendar, and gone back to Entourage, where everything appears normal.
I am not a MobileMe user.
Any clues? Thanks.

I'm having the exact same problem with Snow Leopard. Entourage is working fine but when I connect with iCal, I get tons of duplicate events. I deliberately not syncing via MobileMe until I get this sorted out so that is not a likely cause. We need some Apple folks' help on this fast!

  • Mail Migration from Entourage mac to Outlook windows

    Hi,
I am stuck in a situation of migrating the emails and its sub mail folders from Entourage 2008 mail client runnung in mac over to Outlook 2010 installed in my windows system.
I have thousands of important mails stored in several folders in entourage 2008.
So how can I make the migration from Entourage to Outlook possible.
The solution will be really appreciated if its simple and direct, coz I have a loose hand in performing way-round step-wise technical stuff.
    Thank you

  • Any help converting from Entourage to iCal?

With all the problems syncing between Entourage calendar and my wife's iPhone (and now Apple dropping sync to Entourage in the new "forced" upgrade on MobileMe), I want to help my wife convert from Entourage to iCal.  Anyplace to go for that help?

You can use Thundebird to replace Entourage and get the Lighting.Add-on to Thunderbird to replace the calendar of Entourage which USED TO synch over ical to Mobile Me as follows:
    1. How to set up the iCal for Lightning and MobileMe
    open Thunderbird
    Install the Lightning add-on
    Select “Preferences” “Advanced” “General”“Config Editor…”
    yes, be careful
scroll down until you find  “general.useragent.extra.lightning” andset the value to (nothing). you can also set the value to “ical” or whatever, just change it.
Close the config editor, close Thunderbird
Get the link to your iCal on MobileMe asfollows:
    open ical (YES, iCAL)
right click the calendar under [email protected] youwant to access
    select“get info”
copythe url after “CalDAV url:” it should read“/calendars/users/1.xxxxxxxxx/xxx-x-x-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxx”
OpenThunderbird (assuming you have the Lightning add-on installed)
    Within Thunderbird
    File/ New / Calendar
    onthe networkselect “CalDav”
intolocation: type the following (excluding the “”) :“https://cal.me.com:8443/calendars/users/1.xxxxxxxxx/xxx-x-x-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-x xxx-xxxxxxxxxxx”where the xxx stuff is the part of the url that you copied under 5. above.
Whenyou check what is written in the location field, it will end with a   “/” which is correct.
    This works fine for me.
If you want to back-up your calendar on Thunderbird/Lightning outside the cloud,  goto iCal and export the file to a local location as backup.

  • Migrating from Entourage to Mail, iCal and Address Book

    Hi
I am currently trying to figure out a smart/safe way to move from Entourage to Apple Mail.
    iCal
I successfully imported all my Entourage Calendar items into iCal. This created a "folder" under the "Home" and "Work" folders already in iCal called "Entourage".
However, I would imagine that if I delete anything in Entourage's Calendar, this will also be deleted in the iCal "Entourage" folder.
    *_iCal question_*
How can I move all of the items in iCal, so that they remain there permanently, even if I delete Entourage and its content?
    *_Address Book_*
All address book items in Entourage were synched with Address Book.
    *_Address Book question_*
If I unselect the option to synch Entourage with Address Book, will everything remain in Address Book, or will they be deleted, when I trash the data in Entourage?
    Mail
I have no idea how to import my email accounts and folders (I only have 3 emails in my Inbox - the rest is stored in folders located under the Inbox) currently located in Entourage into Mail.
    *_Mail question_*
Any clues as to how to do that?
Many thanks for your thoughts and responses.
    Dominique =)
PS: sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I was not sure where I could put it.

sorry - wrong place to ask.

  • Switching from Entourage to ical, mail, and address book- duplications?

I am tired of the slowness of Entourage and was thinking of switching to all of the native mac programs. Any suggestions or comments on whether this is a good idea or not?
Also, will all of my information be duplicated. I have about 3 gigs of information and I don't want to needlessly store it if I don't need to. Can I get some advice on where to find and extract that information from the entourage program so I am not eating up disc space unnecessarily.
    Thank you.

Three weeks ago I switched from Entourage and Palm Desktop to Apple mail, address book and ical. It was a tad painful because I ended up with a lot of duplicates as I had email and some contact info in Entourage and several thousand contacts in Palm Desktop.
However after a couple of solid nights sorting out the duplicates all the contact info for each person is now in one place.
Word of warning though when you are checking address book entries make sure you keep backing up the changes (File - Backup address book) because for some inexplicable reason a couple of times all the entries in address book vanished.
Also the check for duplicates option in address book might be great for some but for me it created contacts that had their addresses and phone numbers duplicated several times.
After initial teething problems (getting used to the different programs) I am now pretty happy with the changeover. I am ecstatic to not be seeing the constant Entourage error message of 'your database is damaged and needs to be rebuilt' which entourage kept throwing at me (even after repeated rebuilds).
I have a Palm Treo and Address Book and iCal sync fine with that as well (after installing the conduit).
You'll also find in mail that you can't do as much snazzy formatting as you could with Entourage (ie numbered lists and bullet points) but hopefully Apple will address that in later updates. In the meantime if I'm desperate for formatting I write the email in rtf and paste it across complete with bluet points.
Sorry to drone on but wanted to give you some moral support.
Oh by the way the entourage data is stored in Home folder - Documents - Microsoft User Data - Office 2004 Identities - main identity - database (almost need a compass and flashlight to find it). To be on the safe side burn it to a dvd just in case and then trash it and all it's little friends (rules, lists, signatures and the other main identity folders.
    Good luck

  • Migrating from Entourage to Mail - can't import Notes

Hello, I am migrating from MS Entourage 2008 to Apple's Mail. I have imported the mailboxes and my accounts and contacts without problem, but not my 500 Notes. I've exported them for Entourage in many ways but can't import them in Mail.
When I drag the notes to the desktop they are stored as [Title].ics and those files can't be imported into Mail.
Please I need some help here as I have around 500 notes to bring with me.
    Thanks

Well because Entourage use a single central database and Mail uses the standard UNIX separate folders method.
Also maybe Apple Discussion thread might help.

  • Problems Migrating from Entourage 2004 to All-Mac Apps (Mail, Address Bk)

    Greetings All,
Background: After careful consideration, I've moved from a Treo 650 and Entourage 2004 scenario to the new iPhone and all-Mac Apps platform.
It hasn't gone easily: lots of missing, critical data (below).
I don't understand why thousands of business people aren't posting about this: my data is invaluable, and compromised by chunks of it missing.
I have now spent about 15 hours researching this, and posted in several Google Groups. It's rather tedious, and I have lots of friendly people answering rather than people with answers. I like friendly people, but seriously, I'd rather have a hostile person who knows how to do this at this point.
I have read in several places of the scripts of a Paul Berkowitz called "Export-Import Entourage 1310," but the documentation provided doesn't make clear these issues are addressed.
I have written (five times) Mark/Space regarding their Missing Sync for the iPhone, but they have reading-comprehension issues, and I'm still not clear if they can get the notes from either my old Treo 650 via it into my iPhone.
    Here is what is missing:
    a) Can Paul's scripts (or anyone's!) re-export/merge Contacts such
that categorized/grouped are preserved? This is of great importance.
    b) Will it export Entourage's notes, and will they be
correctly titled, and in a useful place on the iPhone? (I have about
    400 notes), again categorized?
    c) Any way to export my Entourage filters/rules to Apple's Mail?
    d) Any way to export the large *mailing lists* (groups) I had in
    Entourage to Apple's Mail?
Thank you in advance for your informed answers, and I must say that this has been as annoying as Apple thinking we can't figure that when AT&T raised the rates, the savings on the new phone was wiped out.
Think Better, Apple. If you're trying to get us to use your platform, document how to make the switch.
    Thanks,
    km

Hey Kevin, sorry for the deafening silence. I can trade you two possible solutions for your secret elegant solution, how about that?
It turns out I have done the exact same thing you've done: I'm going from Entourage 2004/Treo 680 to Apple apps/Toodledo/iPhone. (Getting rid of Entourage altogether has more to do with the difficulty of using Entourage for my small business on the Mac than the iPhone switch.)
So, there are 2 Applescripts available that deal with moving contact groups and categories to the Mac Address Book.
The first is a script from Paul Berkowitz called Sync-Entourage Address Book. This script was developed before Microsoft turned on Sync Services within Entourage, and was intended to fill that gap. It purportedly can copy over contacts, categories and groups from Entourage to Address Book. It has special features for handling both categories and groups simultaneously. The latest version available is from Feb. 2006, and purports to work with Panther and Tiger, but there's no info on whether it works with Leopard. Also, there's no telling whether it will work simultaneously with Apple sync services. (I would guess not.) Berkowitz is not answering emails or responding in Microsoft forums anymore; according to one of the other Entourage MVPs, he is too busy with his day job, so this is apparently all the information there is. If you want to take a chance, the script is here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/FileSharing.woa/69/wo/1XKAw6Pv2qUMw3xZ.1/0.2. 1.2.26.31.97.9.35.0.1.1.1?user=berkowit28&fpath=Sync%20Entourage-Address%20Book& templatefn=FileSharing.html
There is another (free!) Applescript from a guy named Jon Nathan called Sync Entourage & AB Groups, that syncs Groups only. It is designed to work with Apple Sync Services, and Nathan has written me that it is up-to-date and does work with Leopard. He also wrote me that you can get an idea of how long it will take in this fashion:
"If you open the script in the Script Editor, switch to the "Event Log" tab
at the bottom of the script window, then run the script from here by
clicking the "Run" button, you can watch in real time as it processes your
contacts and you can get a sense of how long it will take to process your
contacts. This will take some time with that many contacts & groups so it's
probably best to run it while you can do something else like eat lunch."
    Nathan's script is available here:
    http://www.jonn8.com/html/SyncEntourageABGroups.html
So, some answers to your questions about note exporting from Entourage:
For tasks and notes, I decided to use two iPhone apps from a company called Appigo: Todo and Notebook. Both apps store tasks and notes locally on the iPhone, interact with each other, and can sync to a Web service called Toodledo. Toodledo can import CSV files to their (under-featured, hopefully to be improved) Web notebook, and from there, you can bring them into Notebook on the iPhone. (Notebook works great on the iPhone and you will be loving it a lot more that the Memo app on your Palm, trust me.) In Toodledo, Todo and Notebook, you use folders in place of the categories you had in Entourage, for both tasks and notes.
Unfortunately, I had a very frustrating time getting my 300+ notes out of Entourage using Berkowitz's import-export scripts, but I did figure it out, and can save you some time if your interested. (You will need TextWrangler in addition to the Berkowitz scripts.)
As far as tasks go, I only have about 30, so it was no big deal to enter them by hand in Toodledo and bring them onto the iPhone with Todo. (FYI, Toodledo's basic Web service is free, you pay an annual subscription fee if you want your stuff encrypted on their servers.)
The Toodledo developer has an active forum, and the Appigo guys have Google Groups for both apps. Both Appigo and Toodledo respond directly and quickly to feature requests, questions, etc.
So how's that? What you got for me?

  • MIgrating from Entourage

    Hello all.
I have a client who is "sees the light" and is giving up Entourage in favor of Mail, Address Book and iCal.
He has hundreds, if not thousands of Notes in Entourage.
How do I get those out of Entourage? I know I can go to file/export and only select "Notes" but then I exports out a .rge file? What can import that? He also wants to be able to sync his notes to his iPhone. But told him one step at a time. So first, is there a way to get the Notes from Entourage into another program. He is running 10.4.11.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
These scripts may have what you need. I haven't tried the notes exporter myself.

  • Migrating from Entourage to Mail and Address Book

    Hi
I am currently trying to figure out a smart/safe way to move from Entourage to Apple Mail.
    _Address Book_
All address book items in Entourage were synched with Address Book.
    _Address Book question_
If I unselect the option to synch Entourage with Address Book, will everything remain in Address Book, or will they be deleted, when I trash the data in Entourage?
    Mail
I have no idea how to import my email accounts and folders (I only have 3 emails in my Inbox - the rest is stored in folders located under the Inbox) currently located in Entourage into Mail.
    _Mail question_
Any clues as to how to do that?
Also, once this is done, how can I disable Entourage for mail, synch, etc.
Many thanks for your thoughts and responses.
    Dominique =)

After you sync with Address Book, and you uncheck the Sync in Entourage, they will not be deleted from Address Book.
For email, open Apple Mail, File Menu, Import Mailboxes..., then choose Entourage.
Or you can drag each folder from Entourage onto your drive, which makes a ".mbox" file which is compatible with many different mail programs. You can import those into Apple Mail (or into Thunderbird, or into Outlook Express, etc.).
You can also use a Gmail account, using IMAP (not POP), and drag'n'drop the emails from Entourage into that, then connect to it from Apple Mail and have them back.
Killing off Entourage is harder. Assuming you don't want to uninstall Office, you'll at least need to go to System Prefs, Accounts, and delete the Login Item for the Microsoft Database. I'm not sure what other steps may be necessary.

  • Migrating from Entourage to Mail

I want to move my E-Mail from Entourage to Mail. I'm using a new MacBook Pro with 10.6.1and wondered if there were any tips I need before I start the process.
I'm intending to use the "File/Import Mailboxes" function in Mail
Also - I have a lot of subfolders which will also need transferring to Mail and am a little scared of messing up the process and losing important messages.
Any advice before I make the transfer will be gratefully received.
    Thanks

I had nothing but problems with it.
I got a roughly 15 GB mail database (roughly 100.000 messages) which I am trying to import from Entourage to Mail using 10.6.1. None of my folders with more than roughly 2500 - 3000 messages in them could have been taken over. None of them. When the import reaches somewhere more than 2000 messages in the actual folder, the import stops and just results all the rest of the folders left empty.

  • Migrating from Entourage and now can't send mail except from  Mac account

I've just started using Mail after using Entourage for many years and I must say it's been a frustrating start (having separate applications for Mail, Address Book and Calendar is a pita so far). But most importantly I can't get Mail to allow me to send mail from any account other than from my .Mac account (no problems receiving mail). I'm using the same outgoing server settings as in Entourage but no joy - I get an error message saying it can't use the outgoing server. I have no problems with this in Entourage. For example, from Entourage I can send mail using my BT Internet account or my Bulldog Home account using the following outgoing mail server settings:
    SMTP SERVER: mail.bulldoghome.com
    ACCOUNT ID: [email protected]
    PASSWORD: my email password
Also, how do I access my hotmail?

Ok here's another one. When I delete a mail retrieved from a non Mac mail account (eg my BT Internet account) and empty my Trash in Mail it does not delete the email off the (BT Internet) server. I have not checked "remove copy from server after retrieving a message" so that I can access the email from multiple locations. But when I do delete it I obviously want it removed from the server.

  • Only Some Events Duplicated from Google in iCal - Yosemite and iOS 8.1.2

I have some shared Google calendars with some folks that I work with, and when I download them from Google onto my Mac and onto my iPhone, some of them are duplicated. Specifically, there are two recurring (every) weekday events that always duplicate throughout the year, whereas weekly recurring events do not duplicate. I am not using iCloud to sync calendars, and Delegates are off. There are no duplicates in the Google Calendar, just on my devices. Further, others with the same permissions for those Google Calendars are not having the same issue. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks!

I have a similar problem on my iPhone 6+ but have Mavericks on my Mac Pro and none of the other WiFi issues on other systems. Have Yosemite installed on my MacBook Pro but it's turned off so no WiFi running on it at the moment. On the iPhone I'm unable to run any apps that need to connect to internet and unable to get any sites on Safari: "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding." is the message I get from all sites, including apple.com.

  • Migrating From Entourage -- Advice / Tips / Traps / ...

I'm currently running Entourage for Mac 2004 and am thinking of switching to Mail / Address Book / Calendar.
How well integrated are the various programs? If I have contact info in Address Book does Mail access the email etc.? If another user on the same Mac switches too how easy is it to share / merge / ... addresses etc.?
I have a zillion messages (okay, 8,000) in maybe 20 folders, a few hundred contacts, a handful of mailing lists, and pretty basic calendar entries, ...
How complicated and time consuming will this move be and is it worth the effort?
    Any advice?

The contacts process is almost as easy as Mail.
Go to the Applications folder and open the Applescripts folder.
    Open the Example Scripts folder.
Open the Address Book Scripts folder.
    Choose Import Addresses.scpt
Double click on the script file and click on Run.
Choose Entourage from the menu and import from the Application.
It will launch Entourage and import your contacts.
If Entourage exports label information then Address Book is capable of using that information.
I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say "Categories associated with each contact."
Address Book has an Add Field menu choice under the Card menu to customize the categories of information and Edit Template lets you create whatever fields you are likely to need.
If you need to create directories or groups of addresses the file menu has the options.
You can also create Smart Groups.
There is excellent help in the Help menu, as well, to explain these options.
You may need to experiment a little, in order to create the appropriate template for the contact data to be imported into.
There is also information in Help under Importing contacts into Address Book with other ideas around importing and field labels.
You can test by creating new user accounts in system preferences and importing into the Address Book in another user.
This lets you experiment with the import.
It will help you to fine tune a Template and what method to use for the import.
This process is definitely faster than manually entering that many entries.
