Duplicate files created after library consolidate library

I have been trying to clean up everything. I have several iTunes libraries. The one I have selected in preferences is on an external HD, it was up and running. I went to library>consolidate library. When I went to look at the actual files in my selected ext. HD iTunes folder, nearly EVER song (several 1000's) had a duplicate, tune.mp3 and now tune 1.mp3. ***??? Where did they come from? Did iTunes gather all of the files up from other itunes folders & copy them???
How do I get rid of the duplicates?
What a mess...
They don't show in the iTunes window. Just in the file folder.

Hi,
Then you may need to monitor the behavior to see if you can find out the cause.
First you can enable Audit on that folder to get the account who create the /1 file. You need to set Audit in 2 settings:
1. Configure "audit object access" in AD Group Policy or on the server's local GPO. This setting is located under Computer Configuration-->Windows Settings-->Security Settings-->Local Policies-->Audit Policies. Enable success/failure auditing
for "Audit object access."
2. Configure an audit entry on the specific folder(s) that you wish to audit. Right-click on the folder-->Properties-->Advanced. From the Auditing tab, click Add, then enter the users/groups whom you wish to audit and what actions you wish to audit
- auditing Full Control will create an audit entry every time anyone opens/changes/closes/deletes a file, or you can just audit for Delete operations.
Also you can try Process Monitor to see if you can capture the exact process when the file is created. However as the issue occurs randomly it may take your time to get an accurate trace.

  • XML file created by Library- Export

In looking at the XML file created by Library->Export, there is a persistent ID for the library as a whole, and a persistent ID for each track. But there isn't a persistent ID for each CD. But it appears that there must be such an ID, because if you look at the filenames of the itc2 files, many of them use a persistent ID that doesn't exist in the XML file, which I assume is for the CD. Is there any way to find this persistent ID?

I suspect that iTunes uses some form of hashing algorithm to index into the Album Artwork folders. Looking at my library, the ratio of about 10:1 for library entries to artwork .itc objects suggests that only one image is used for each album and the fact that the same album name can be used by different artists in iTunes without causing problems suggests that both the album name & artist name are used in generating the hash key. The prevelance of empty folders suggests these are used within iTunes to mark items for which artwork hasn't been found online.
The Album Artwork folders are a cache created to help iTunes display artwork in it's various views without having to unpack the images from the tags or download them again from an online repositry. If you're worried the cache has out of date or corrupt data, just delete it all and let it be rebuilt as you use your library. If you want access to the images it contains use scripting to get direct access to the artwork objects of the files you are interested in.

  • Deleting hundreds of duplicate files in Itune Library

how do I delete HUNDREDS of duplicate files that show up in my ITunes library? I guess I (or my teenagers) keep importing or adding the same files and folders back in somehow, and now I have 5 or 6 files of each song, hundreds in all. I can't delete these individually..... and the 'consolidate' thing seems to want to erase my mp3 library, I don't want that because I have an old Samsung/Napster that uses those. I just need to delete duplicate files in my Itunes library with one click. Any way to do that?

I had the same problem. I found many duplicates on my pc after moving files to an external hard drive. Some duplicates existed before this move but I did not worry about them. So, after a while my children were running out of space on their ipods so I used the "Show Duplicates" feature and deleted "the .....ing duplicates". Now my children tell me a great deal of their purchased music is missing and they are very annoyed. I told them that I thought Apple/iTunes spoke English and that Duplicate means just that, A Duplicate. This is extremely annoying. It seems like such a common sense fubar thing which is contrary to the awesome quality of the itunes/ipod in general. How do I get the songs we already *payed for* back on our computer? Or, are we screwed and in a spot where we must repurchase this music? Honestly, this is something I expect from microsoft, not Apple.

  • Very large  PSD files created in library ?

When I finish processing a NEF file in Lightroom and send to Photoshop CS3 to make a lens distortion correction then save the revised file as a PSD file, the resulting file size saved to my Lightroom library is more than 5 times the size of my original NEF (11MB-62MB).
This doesn't seem right and really discourages me from using CS3 - or maybe Lightroom (?). Am I doing something wrong ? Is there a work flow that will allow me to use CS3 for corrections not possible in Lightroom without generating such giant files to my library.
In my pre-Lightroom workflow I would import the original NEF to a photo library folder, open the NEF file in Bridge to make raw adjustments, then open in Photoshop to make the distortion corrections, etc, then save as a jpg. The resulting file sizes in my library folder would be 11MB for the original NEF and 3-4MB for the final JPG.
I really prefer sorting, developing and viewing photos in Lightroom rather than Photoshop, but am reluctant to accept an additional 58MB of storage requirement for each photo that requires Photoshop revisions.
Would appreciate any suggestions or ideas !!

That's normal. A RAW file is usually 12-bit with only one greyscale value at each pixel. There are individual color filters in front of every pixel. This pattern is called a Bayer Mosaic. A RAW converter demosaics this into a picture that has RGB values defined at each pixel. If for example, you have a 10MP camera, your RAW file uncompressed will be at a minimum 15MB, or about 10MB compressed. Now demosaic this into a 16-bit file. This yields 10*3*16/8=60MB uncompressed. Adding compression gets you down to about 30-50MB depending on the complexity of the picture. Nothing you can do about this, but for using 8-bits instead of 16-bits, halving the necessary filesize.

  • Duplicate tasks created after reboot

    Hi,
I am using a Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition.
This server needs a reboot every month. But after a reboot, there is a particular task which fails to start as duplicate tasks are created. This task is scheduled to run hourly. But as soon as i reboot the server it fails. This task runs a Download.bat file
and a file is created every hour.
I have to delete these duplicate tasks and then the task runs fine.
Can anyone help me with this. I don't want duplicate tasks to be created after the reboot.

    Hi Arjun Ks,
It seems is the task scheduler is triggering the task but the second instance is not able to execute.
The task scheduler is seeing another instance still running and hence unable to trigger the second instance.
May the task needs to run in a loop, I suggest you try
     the below options:
“Run a new instance in parallel”
    "Stop the existing instance”

  • No DMP file created after Export

    Hi All
I am trying to export MyDB schema on OMS as a dmp file. After completing the Export Wizard, the message says "The job has been successfully submitted. You can view the status of the job in the Active Jobs pane of the Enterprise Console Manager". I am using Oracle 9i. I don't get any ORA errors or what so ever when I run the Export Wizard.
Then when I look in the c:\oracle\oracledata\MyDB there is no DMP file there.
Am I missing any steps here in order to create the dmp file besides running the Export Wizard.
Any help deeply appreciated. Thank you in advance.
    Sincerely Solongo

    Dear All
    I have sorted the problem.
I had assign "Logon as Batch Job" policy on Local Security Policy to a Windows User "Solongo" that I am currently logged in as, and logon to OMS and set the Preffered Credential as "Solongo" and ran the Export Wizard. Guess what, now I have export.dmp file residing on c:\oracle\oracledata\MyDB.
    Thank you all

  • Quick way to remove duplicate files in iTunes Library folder?

I "consolidated my iTunes Library", which caused iTunes to place duplicate mp3/mp4 files in my iTunes library folder (I assume it copied them all over from my backup drive) which has doubled the size of my iTunes Library folder.
Keep in mind, that iTunes actually shows only one copy of each song/video within the app. It's only that the actual files have been doubled on my hard drive. iTunes is only using half of those files.
Is there a way to quickly identify and delete the duplicated files on my hard drive that aren't being used by iTunes?

This information from Doug should help you decide what you can use.

  • Simulate Acquisition does not include new image file created after first call

For example, I have 5 images in a folder.
    I call Simulate Acquisition.
It cycles through all 5 images.
Now If I include 1 more image it does not include this image in the "cycle". I need to reload this step by clicking Main\path\browse button and select any image in the folder and then it cycles through all 6 images.
Is there anyway to automatically include new images added to the folder after the step has been created?
    Thanks.

    Vision Builder AI 2011 SP1

Here's a sample inspection and VI to illustrate how you could do this. I used an image variable and passed this into the Run LV step so the VI could read the file and update the image variable and then I used the Select Image step to get the image variable into the VBAI script so you can process it. I also added a delete option in the VI so you can delete the previous image when you read the next available image. Make sure to go to the Setup State and initialize the path variable to where your image files will live (to access the Setup State, go to View>>View Complete Inspection and select on the Setup option on the left hand side. I initialized it to c:\Image Folder
    Hope this helps,

  • Duplicate contacts created after sync

    I support a customer with a bb:
He indicates that he sync's his BB with Desktop Manager and today after doing so he see's two duplicate contact lists:  default and "desktop".   They both contain identical contact information.   He wants to get rid of one of them.  Which one can he remove and how?

additional note.  Customer is now finding that the sync is now trying to pick up everything that has ever been on the calendar as a "all day event" (as opposed to haveing a specific time entered) and add it to the current day.

  • Where can I see details of the different "event" files created after transferring my old camcorder tapes to i-movie?

Yesterday I transferred a couple of camcorder mini dv tapes to i-movie. For each tape transferred a new "event" file was created. Where on the system can I see details of these files (format, size of file etc) . Many thanks. Angus

    .. what for?
iMovie has a very ... elaborated .. iffy internal file management; e.g. changing file's names or locations OUTSIDE Imovie/in Finder instantly corrupts file management, events get lost, projects kaputt.
All iM related files are stored upon your main drive, 'Movies'/'iMovie Projects' and /'iMovie Events' ...

  • Duplicate files created when saving in Excel

The application creates two copies of the file to the disk the only difference is the second identical file has and additional set f characters added to the file name presenting a doubling of the space used on the disk
Any body got an explanation we cannot find any reason as to why this occurs.

What happens if you run this code first, before saving a new file?
    Sub TurnOffEvents()
    Application.EnableEvents = False
    End Sub
    Then run this afterwards:
    Sub TurnOffEvents()
    Application.EnableEvents = True
    End Sub

  • How do i remove duplicate items from my library

After interrupting a download of a season of TV shows from the iStore, I restarted my computer and the download process started again from the beginning, creating duplictes of episodes that had previously been downloaded. Result appears to be duplicate files in my library. I've attempted to delete the "duplicates" from my library with no success. Are these really duplicated or is it just a display issue. If they are duplcautes, is there a simple way to provent this from hapening again? Seems odd that the download process wouldn't recognize that the files were already there.

Do some of the episodes show up with a cloud symbol? If so sign out of the iTunes store and then sign in again.
Highlight one duplicated episode, right-click and click Show in Windows Explorer. Are there multiple copies of the same episode listed? If so you have true duplicates and can delete the redunant copies from iTunes, sending the files to the recycle bin when prompted. If there is only one copy of each episode then delete the spare entries from iTunes but don't recycle the files.

  • Getting rid of duplicates in SoundTrack Pro library

    Hello
I recently installed STP 2 over my previously installed STP, and have a problem with duplicate files in the library. The previous installation was lacking files, so I decided to installed all files again.
How should I proceed to weed out the duplicates? Should I try to fins duplicates by using some utility (recommendations?), or should I delete all files and reinstall install the sound files from the DVDs?
I presume I need to reindex again in both cases?
Also, were are the directories I need to work with located? (Previous STP directiories for library sound files and new ones?)
    Cheers

Hmm, no reactions to my posting. But I may have the answer myself.
The Index file seems to have been corrupted. I tried to reindex the Apple Loops directory, but this did not help.
I the took out the directory from the indexing list, and added the Apple Loops for Sound Track Pro, where the problems seemed to be. I then reindexed.
Now I got back a lot of files. I was previously not aware of that files were missing. The duplicates seems to have been a misunderstanding on my part. Files in the Sound Track Pro browser and in the Finder now seems to match up.
The solution seems to have been to force STP to reindex the problematic sub directory.

  • Strange duplicate files

I am seeing duplicate files in my library. I used Tune-Up and the software did not see them as duplicates.
I looked at the file location of the dup files and the location is the same.
If I delete any of the duplicate files, both file duplicates get deleted to the recycle bin. In the recycle bin, I see one file.
If I do restore to the file, life comes back to normal and only one file shows up in Library.
Is there a fix ? I have 100s of these duplicates.

Yup, preview in secondary browser is turned off. Further testing reveals that if I have a scripting error or I use shortcuts CMND/Option to bring up a direct link to CSS, or if I try and edit an existing recordset from the bindings panel I'm very likely to get a new temp file. It's never opened in an edit window and the temp file never shows up in the site preview unless I browse directly to it.
Weird and annoying for sure. When I get this intranet site completed I'll try and diagnose the problem. No time in the day to do that right now. Deadlines and family commitments don't leave me with the spare hour or so I'll need to figure out what's going on.
