Duplicate folders?

I downloaded and installed Photoshop Elements 11 as well as Premier Elements 11. They seem to run okay although I just tried some very simple things.
Maybe I did the installation poorly but...
Now on my desktop are two folders 'Adobe Premiere Elements 11'   and   'Adobe Photoshop Elements 11'
In addition, in 'Program Files / Adobe' there are two folders with the same names as above, although with very different looking icons.
I would like to clean up the desktop. Can I move the folders somewhere and/or can I delete them?
Thanks for your advice, in advance.
DKK

On the desktop the "Adobe Photoshop Elements 11" folder has two subfolders,
PSE 11
This one has "ElementsOrganizer" "ElementsSTIInstaller" and "EISetupPrerequisites" folders plus about 100 other files, some very small and a few quite large.
  and
ReadMe
This one has about a dozen small readme type files
The second desktop folder, "Adobe Premiere Elements 11" has a similar structure for the subfolders.
In the Adobe folder in Program files I also see the folder
Adobe Premiere Elements 11
It has many subfolders as well as a couple hundred files.
Ditto for
Photoshop Elements 11
Those latter folders don't look anything like what is on the desktop.
I would like to either move or delete the desktop folders, if possible.
Sincerely, DKK

  • MY system folder, including hidden folders are littered with duplicate folders and files with the suffix (from old Mac) How do I remove them

I have a Macbook Pro running Leopard 10.5.8. I had a problem with my my operating system (my fault, I moved a file I shoudnt have) couldnt boot up but was able to boot up from a backup. I managed to repair my original system except now all the system folders, including hidden folders are littered with duplicate folders and files with the suffix (from old Mac).  For the most part the dupes are an exact copy, but not always.  I want to remove them to free up space and cant imagine duplicate folders in the /system/library are not hindering my computer. But I dont know where to start and am afraid of doing irreparable damage. Any ideas

If the OS is saying they're in use, they are. That message indicates that something on the boot drive is linked to the other disk or vice-versa. Quit all applications and try deleting again. If you get the same message, you'll have to track down what's open. One way is to launch the Terminal.app in /Applications/Utilities/, type in this command, hit the return key, and get the /dev/disk information for the attached disks:
    df -h
This is an example of what you should see:
    /dev/disk0s10 52162400 35274040 16888360 68% /Volumes/<name of other HD>
Then, enter this command, hit the return key, and peruse the output for the culprit(s) on that other drive:
    lsof /dev/disk0s10
The only thing that should be listed is something like this, but that shouldn't prevent the disk from unmounting.
    Finder 260 username 27r VDIR 14,20 68 425847 /Volumes/HD/.Trashes/501
If there are other processes and open files, you'll have to stop the processes. Launch Activity Monitor, check the process number that's running (in this example it's Finder w/process #260), select it, click on the Quit Process button, and click on the Quit button in the dialog box that pops up. Now, try deleting the folders.

  • Duplicate folders NAME~1 appear in PSE9 Elements 9 Orgainser folder view

I am running Photoshop Elements 9 (PSE9) in windows7 and I am having a problem of apparently empty duplicate folders in Organiser's folder view (thumbnails on the right, Windows Explorer type folder list on the left).
A new apparently empty folder structure has appeared on in the folder view, identical to my main set of photo folders but containing no thumbnails and with a truncated folder name, eg DigitalPhotos becomes Digita~1 and FamilyandFriends becomes Family~1.  If I delete any of the apparently empty subfolders in the duplicate folders, it deletes all the real jpgs from the hard drive and they show up as a missing file when I click on the proper thumbnail in the proper folder. It would appear to me that the catalog is referring to the same underlying file at two points for my whole catalog.
As the folders are apparently empty there is no ability to use the delete file option and uncheck delete file to delete only from the catalog
    I have tried..
    - catalog optimise
    - catalog repair anyway (no faults found)
    - catalog repair rebuild visual similarity index
    - deleting the thumbnail file from ProgramData\Adobe\etc. then rebuilding all thumbnails (took hours) - I thought this had solved the problem when I checked very late last night but it wasb back when I turned on the computer this morning.  I am now questioning whether in fact this solved the problem or if this was my imagination/ lack of sleep
They clearly shouldn't be there and I am concerned that double-links to the same underlying file will cause me corruption-related trouble.
Any ideas?  I am really concerned the whole thing is going to crash on me and erase endless hours of work.
    Thanks
    Kimberley

    SunOS 5.10 Generic_142900-03 sun4v sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise-T5120
After installling messaging server 7 and restoring data (imsrestore), webmail client shows me a draft folder and a Borradores (spanish) folder.
The messenger express client shows both as "Borradores" and just one keeps old messages, but new ones are save in the other one.
The same issue for Sent (Enviados) and Trash (Basura).
Not all users present this problem, and have not found the characteristic that makes the diference.
The ldap entry atributes (related with folder configuration) for a right user (no duplicate folders) is like this:
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meDraftFolder=Drafts
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meSentFolder=Sent
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meTrashFolder=Trash
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meInitialized=true
    And for a wrong user:
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meSentFolder=Enviado
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meInitialized=true
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meDateFormat=0/
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meColorSet=5

    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meExpungeOnExit=true
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meViewSize=100
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meAutoSpell=true
    nswmExtendedUserPrefs: meDraftFolder=Drafts
I have tryied changing nswmExtendedUserPrefs attribute from "meSentFolder=Borradores" to "meSentFolder=Draft" without success.
I am not sure where is the problem, messaging configuration or it is a ldap issue.
Any idea will be apreciated, thanks.

    adding to what Shane said...
doing this via IMAP is the best bet. If you are moving messages between folders in the same account, you can do that via IMAP and the Message Store will end up doing it all via hard links in the file system rather than actually copying the data. So it should be nice and fast and low impact on your disk space and system. In IMAP, "move" consists of COPY to the destination folder and then flagging the originals as deleted and doing expunge. That will update store.* files and create hard links for the messages in the destination folders, but not copy the message data. You will not need to do any reconstructs.
imsbackup/imsrestore could do it, but will end up copying the data - unless you enable real time relinker - so this method is more load on the system.
And manually moving the files around in the store would require reconstruct and is generally not as good an idea as doing it via IMAP. If you have only a few folders to do this to, then you could do the IMAP commands by hand as easily as you could hack on the store files directly.

  • Duplicate folders in photos - the solution

Starting with iOS 5 I was frustrated that I had what appears to be duplicate folders in Photos.
The iPhone one, Photo Library, and the one that I sync from on my computer.
    Both had the same pictures
    Problem solved....
It turns out that if you add a sub folder to the one on your computer you sync with (Wallpaper, Family, or whatever)
you will see "Photo Library" which will contain all the pictures from the folder you sync with and
"Wallpaper", "Family", or whatever folders below it with only the pictures you place in this sub folder on your computer.
In otherwords iOS5 expects you to break up the pictures in the folder you sync with into focused catagories.
    Neat...
Be sure you have "All folders" turned on when you sync

This has been the same since day one with iOS 1.0 with the original iPhone.
All photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync/transfer process are stored in the Photo Library. Photos in the albums or folders below include a pointer to the original photos stored in the Photo Library. Photos on the albums or folders of photos below are not duplicated as in taking double the storage space.
This way you can view the photos in an album or folder only by selecting the album or folder, or you can view all photos in all albums or folders by selecting Photo Library.
A photo cannot be in an album or folder without being in the Photo Library.

  • Blank Duplicate Folders Not Deleteable!

    Hi All
Got my iphone 4 yesterday and set it all up and bundled apps into folders.
Everything went good until I downloaded the iphone4 case program app and now I have 10 blank duplicated named folders! I can't seem to delete them either. Tried syncing again but the folders are still in the phone. Anyone has this problem and know a fix for this? Any comments are very appreciated.
On another problem, I noticed that the battery seems to deplete very quickly whilst in sleep mode. Any fix?
    Thanks in advance

    Hello!
I'm sorry that you are having trouble deleting those pesky duplicated folders. Did you try opening one of them and doing the tap + hold until the app inside the folder starts to wiggle?
Try doing that and drag the unwanted app(s) out of the folder, one by one. This would makes those folders disappear. I know it is a bit tedious but it was the only thing I know that worked when the duplicate folders happened to me. Perhaps someone else has a quicker solution(?).
As for battery drainage, I suggest you turn off all push notifications from your e-mail and any location services that are running in the background that you are not using. See if that helps.

  • Duplicate folders being created within folders

I am noticing that since we started using Contribute on our
website that duplicate folders are being created within the folder.
For example - I have a folder called Ministries. Inside Ministries
are three subfolders - Peru, Brazil & Mexico. I'll go in to
upload a page to the Mexico subfolder and find that the entire
Ministries folder has been duplicated inside the Ministries folder.
So instead of looking like this:
    Ministries -
    Peru
    Brazil
    Mexico
    It looks like this:
    Ministries -
    Peru
    Brazil
    Mexico
    Ministries
    Peru
    Brazil
    Mexico
Has anyone else encountered this? I haven't been able to find
any coding issues that would account for this. I admit that I
probably just don't know enough to know where to look.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I am unable to reproduce this issue when using Contribute.
Could you please check if that system is infected by any
    virus?

  • Duplicate folders in iTunes after migrating my library

    Hello,
I got a new computer, still Windows XP Pro, and install iTunes 9.0.2.25 in it, and import my library, problem is I'm having duplicated folders (Music Videos, My Top Rated, Recently Added, and so on ...)in iTunes. All my music is there and iTunes is working fine, I just want to find a way to delete the duplicated folder entries, any ideas???

I'm having the same issue. You search and search under support and nothing tells you how to delete the duplicate folders. I've got 3 different Itunes library, music, the list goes on and I need to know where these should really reside in my computer, under my programs\Itunes or what because if I delete one from any of the files to test it the song won't play under itunes. Why is this so complicated? Itunes support provides no instruction on where the files should be and how to get rid of the duplicates without killing the song under Itunes. This is making me nuts and it's eating up an extra 8Gb on my computer.

  • Lightroom 4.3 Duplicate folders being created on import

Hi, is anyone else gaving issues with duplicate folders being created with Lightroom 4.3 on import?
When I import photos, they go to a folder with a name "XXX" for example.
The folder is in a hierarchy of "2013, March, XXX".
Lightroom creates a folder  here and above 2013! It is making a mess of my library.
Also, when I import using Photo Mechanic (great software that just works!) and then do a "synchronize folder" in Lightroom, only 1 photo is transferred.
Is there a fix for these bugs?

It looks to me as though you've fallen victim to the "capitalisation" issue....in your Folders Panel your year folders names have the word "LIBRARY" in capitals, yet in the screenshot of the import dialog you are importing to "LR_Library_2013". I guess at some point you changed the capitalisation, and although the OS doesn't distinguish between the two formats, Lightroom unfortunately does.....so although all the images/sub-folders are within the one actual year folder, Lightroom sees them as two different parent folders.
So which one is the correct format as shown in Win Explorer? I'm guessing the lower-case version? If so, the quickest way to fix this is as follows:
    1. Backup your catalog.
    2. Create a root level folder on the C drive, call it whatever you want, say "Capitals Fix".
    3. Right-click on the "LR_LIBRARY_2013" year folder in the Lightroom Folders Panel and select "Update Folder Location". In the file browser that then opens, browse to and select the "Capitals Fix" folder on the C drive.
    4. Don't be alarmed as the 2013 folder will disappear from the Folders Panel, "Capitals Fix" will appear but all the sub-folders that were listed under 2013 will now have "?" marks.
    5. Now right-click on "Capitals Fix" in the Folders Panel, and again choose "Update Folder Location". This time browse to and select the correct "LR_Library_2013" folder on the A drive. You may get a "Merge" dialog box, select "Merge" and everything should resolve itself.
    6. Repeat if needed for the 2011 and 2012 year folders, though as you're likely not importing into there any longer you may not encounter the problem.

  • HT2905 When i use itunes to transfer photos from my pc to my iphone it transfers two duplicate folders onto the phone. One called photo library the other the name of the folder i transfered. I dont want the photos on my phone twice

Hi. I hope someone can help.
I have just downloaded itunes onto my pc.
Firstly when my iphone is plugged in and i open itunes it does not have a picture/photo folder under my phone listing.
Secondly when i go to photos from the top of screen and tick sync. It asks me to select the folder i want to sync with phone which i do. I then press apply and it transfers all the photos from that folder to my phone BUT it does it twice! I end up with two folders with the same photos. One named as per folder on pc and the other named photo library. I am not able to delete either of them. If i go back to itunes and unsync it deletes them both.
I have been trying for hours now.
If i just try to do it from my pc ie right click and send to iphone it wont do it just says phone not responding or disconnected
    Any ideas?

You do NOT have duplicates.  This is how Apple handles photos.
Just as a song is in your Itunes Library and that exact same song can be accessed from a playlist, all synced photos are in the Photo Library and those exact same photos can be accessed from the album.

  • How can I restart with itunes again  as I seem to have duplicate folders in Music and Itunes?

I seem to have partially duplicate Music folders  on my computer one called Music (/Users/barry) which is 86.9 gb and one called Itunes music (/Users/barry/Music/iTunes) which is 60.9 GB.
I also have a folder of 25GB in /Users/barry/Music/iTunes/iTunes Master Library recreated 29jul2014/iTunes
I am totally confused as to whether these are really duplicates or how to solve this but am desperate to free up some space on my hard drive.
Are all these necessary or can I delete any please?
Can I start with Itunes again without endangering my music collection?
I am using 11.1.5 version of Itunes.

  • E75: Duplicates folders - but no incoming mails - ...

    Hi there,
I read a lot of messages regarding E75 problems but didnt find similar problems to my ones.
I bought the E75 two days ago and I am still trying to set up MFE.
As it looks I get a connection to my mail server (Exchange 2007).
I can see my mail subfolders on the phone. But all of them also the inbox are empty.
    Outgoing mail is fine.
Some of the folders duplicate from time to time. Like Sent Objects, drafts etc. But not the subfolders.
I am not sure if synchronize is really running. The green circle doesnt move or change.
But the subfolders are there... When I try to change settings I get a message that MFE ist already running.
I didnt get any error message.
Does anyone has the same problem (hopefully solved).
    Certificate is fine.
    Hope someone can help me.
    Kind regards

    HI Sandra and welcome.
As I do not use MfE I cannot offer details instruction. However I can only offer practical advice. I would start with making sure that you are telling your email client to sync all data as well as folders. Once again, I am not 100% familiar with MfE but I hope this helps.

  • Duplicate Folders Occupying Physical Disk Space in /Volume

It all started when I tried to restore from the Time Machine and it threw a error back stating that there is no disk available. I was wondering how come as I have a 120GB Partition for the Mac OS and I only have around 50 GB of data in my folders. I tried to find out what is happening and finally figured that my entire Macintosh HD has a duplicate copy inside the /Volumes folder. I went to the XTERM to investigate and found that the / (root) has a Users folder where all my stuffs like pictures, music, movies, documents reside and the same data or content is duplicated in the /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users folder
I first thought that it was only a link, but later was shocked to find out that it is not a link and it is indeed a physical copy of all my User folders inside the /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users folder and actually occupying almost another 50 GB of my Hard disk space.
I am not sure how this happened or how it is duplicating itself. I am also afraid to delete the stuffs inside the /Volumes folder as it might crash my system (it is already hidden - I assume it is hidden for some purpose). Please suggest any options, how I can get rid of these duplicated data and how to avoid such duplication in the future and is it safe to delete those duplicated files and folders in the /Volumes path.
    Thanks
    Regards

Those folders may be created if an attempt is made to access another drive when it isn't available to the computer. They can be deleted normally.

  • Duplicate Folders in My  Local Folder?

Lately a duplicate of one folder will show up in my local
working folder, but it's not duplicated on my remote server files.
So I will have two of the exact same folder...(?) I've reinstalled
Dreamweaver, on Mac OSX 10.4.11., and it cleaned out the
duplicates...momentarily. Now one or two of my folders is
duplicated...again. Is this some sort of conflict with another
    program, etc.? Stumped...

    Hi Mark
thanks for your reply. 70 CD'S!!! - Bummer!
One option I have read about is to operate 1 library with separate playlists for each person & sync the iPods manually, with each iPod then receiving only the songs selected on that persons playlist(s).
That way you could have the same songs on 2 or more playlists. The bigger your music collection is tho the more of a hassle I imagine this would become!
I just can't work out which folder is the last used & therefore current one when trying to open a different library.
Anyway - good luck, let me know if you find a solution
ps - to search the computer for music wouldn't you select import from the file menu in iTunes & then search the hard drive for the music you want ??
