Duplicate icons on dashboard

working with dash board I moved some icons into folders and on photo booth it has one icon in the folder and one out of the folder and I can notn delete the either one. The one in the folder works the one outside of folder does not.
How do you fix this or is this a BUG!

you may try this
1. go application folder delete the original application
2. go launcher pad delete the icon
3. install the application again.

However, most do not have x's appear next to them. Otherwise, the migration seemed to go okay.

Launchpad will display an icon for each copy of an application that is currently installed (as well as any aliases to those applications), so you will see more than one icon for an application if you have more than one version of the application installed or aliased. So did you create any aliases of these apps on your old computer? If so, delete them.

Why do I have duplicate icons of Safari after Lion install?

I recently installed Lion and later found out that Safar, DVD Player, Photobooth, and Preview all have duplicate icons. One seems to be the older version while the other is the newer version with the new Full screen feature. Just to note, all those apps were in folders before I installed Lion but now I can't even take them out of the folder. I says I can't modify or delete them since OSX needs them. what do I do?

I had the same problem. Then I went into my applications folder and found older versions for the same app; i.e. Pages and Keynote. Once I deleted the older versions, (this does not delete anything you created from them since they would transfer to the most recent version) I went into Launchpad and saw that the old icon's were gone. Pretty simple procedure.

No dragging to trash doesn't work. Just keep dragging them off. If they are stacked, which shouldn't happen, then when you delete one the other is still there.
Just how did you get duplicates? Did you put them there? If not then you have other problems and I'm not sure how to correct it.

Duplicate icons on launchpad screen

I have some duplicate icons on Launcher screen. I can get them to 'wiggle' OK, but no 'x' appears alongside. How do i delete them?

HT2492 I am using Snow Leopard and the icon for dashboard was removed from the dock. Does anyone knopw how to put it back? I have searched Finder, Trash and the Applications folder but i can't find it. It works when i press F4 so it must still be there

The combo update may replace anything you have inadvertently deleted.

You can reapply it over the top of any previously downloaded version. I see that your profile says 10.6.8.
Then software update to pick up any new security, iTunes updates.

Finder Places - duplicate icons every time I restart

Every time I restart my iMac, I get duplicate icons in the sidebar under "Places."
I can fix the problem by deleting the sidebar preference, and replacing it with a backup that I keep stored on my iDisk.
But does anyone know of a way TO PREVENT THE FINDER PLACES ICONS FROM DUPLICATING EVERY TIME I RESTART?
I have used my Mac OS X disk to run disk utility.
ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I was having the same problem, and this thread led me to the solution. The Onyx feature was definitely the problem, however I do not use Onyx - I used a demo version of Cocktail (which is a similar product). In Cocktail I had added a dock item that shows Favorites in the dock as a stack. As a consequence of turning on this feature, apparently, the sidebar items become duplicated on restart. So it seems that it doesn't matter which program you use to access this "feature" - either way you end up with duplicated sidebar items. Assuming you have done the same thing - you don't have to run Onyx or Cocktail to alleviate the problem. Simply drag this item off of your dock, restart, and the problem is solved.

How to hide duplicate icons

How do you remove duplicate icons from the screen. Example. My Iphoto has an icon on the doc and an icon on the upper right of the screen. If I move the icon on the screen to the trash, so goes the whole program. Of course then I have to restore it. Any way, I want to remove the icon on the screen. Any help?

If the iPhoto icon has a small arrow in the lower left hand corner, it's not the actual application but an alias and can be safely trashed. Otherwise, just drag it into your Applications folder.

Duplicate Icons in launch Pad

In Launch Pad - on my iMac 24 - I have duplicate icons for Bluetooth File Share, Activity monitor, Airport utility and others. How do I get rid of the duplicates? They do not go to the trash. This is not happening on my MacBookAir.

I had a look too and couldn't find anything so started a wider internet search and there is apparently a way of resetting the launchpad, which from reading is closely related to the Dock.

IPAD with duplicate icons

My iPad has duplicate icons, photos and iPod. When i switch pages the icons stay and are overlayed with the current pages icons. If i move the icons i see the ones below. how can i fix this issue.

Try a System Reset:
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.
A System Reset does not remove any apps, music, movies, etc. nor does it cause any settings to revert back to default.
Also, you might wish to download the iPad-2 User Guide. Pay special attention to page 162. Note that this Guide also applies to the iPad-1 with IOS 4.3 except for those functions that are not supported by the hardware.

AIR ADT duplicates icons within package

I have a detailed question on SO, but hoping to get more exposure to experts here.
In short, in regards to application icons in descriptor-app.xml, the documentation states:
"The path specified is relative to the application root directory.
Note: The icons specified are not automatically added to the AIR package. The icon files must be included in their correct relative locations when the application is packaged."
If my descriptor file has icons like this:

   <image48x48>icons/bigIcon.png</image48x48>
   <image128x128>icons/biggestIcon.png</image128x128>

I would include them with ADT command like this:
adt [STUFF] outputfile.apk descriptor-app.xml main.swf icons
Which will produce APK structure like this:

The icons in folder under res/drawable*are duplicates of icons under assets/icons
The documentation is asking me to do the impossible, as ADT does not allow to specify files to add to package that are outside "application root", and icons location for Android is outside of application root.
Why? I don't have to include descriptor.xml in application root: ADT knows where to place it in package. Why do I have to polute my application root with dupicate copy of "icons"?

This is only an option on iOS, because IPA structure keeps icons in the "root" of the application. Even then, I shouldn't have to manually overwrite the filenames when the ADT command already knows their correct names and location within the package.
But on Adroid, this is impossible, because the icons in the APK structure are outside of the "root" of the application. And ADT command does not let me add files outside of the application root.

Widget icon on dashboard

My widget icon disappeared from my dashboard. Please, how can I get it back?

If a widget is not showing up in dashboard click on the plus sign in the bottom left of the dashboard. This shows you the widget browser. You can locate the desired widget and click on it to add it again. If you don't see the widget you want you can search for it and download it http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/(assuming it is not one of the ones that is built into the computer).

Trouble opening internet links in Outlook & Duplicate icon on task bar

I am having trouble opening links in my Outlook 2010 e-mail. If Firefox is already open the links open fine but if it's not open, nothing happens when I click on the link. Also, I'm trying to figure out why, on my desktop, when I open Firefox from the quick launch area it creates a duplicate Firefox icon. On my laptop there will be just one Firefox icon, even when the program is open (the one on the quick launch bar). Any ideas? Thanks.

Another shortcut for maximizing the currently active window is to press Alt+Spacebar followed by x for maximize.

Do you have multiple monitors by any chance? If so, can you set the monitor where you want Firefox to "primary"?
If this problem persists -- in other words, if Firefox stops saving the new position of its window(s) correctly between sessions -- the settings file that stores the last window position may be corrupted. You could try removing that file and let Firefox use its default sizing and positioning. Note: this also will default some toolbar customizations.
Here's how:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button to open a new window showing your currently active settings files.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
* (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''localstore.rdf''' to something like localstore.old
Start Firefox back up again. Is the window visible?
