Duplicate items in my movie library

I have purchased movies for iTunes and I download the movies and all is well in the world. The next time I purchase a movie the movie i downloaded shows up but then every movie I have downloaded also has a cloud version showing. It shows 2 versions. One I downloaded and one I could download. I have deleted the downloaded version and downloaded the cloud version but then the next time I add a new movie to my iTunes library the process starts again. I am over 50 movies in my library now and I do not have the time or bandwidth to download all the movie a second time every time I want to add a new movie.

Try signing out of the store and then signing in again.
Alternatively go to iTunes Store > Quick Links > Purchased > Movies > Not on this computer and delete any items that you know are already downloaded to your library to prevent them showing up with cloudy links.

I found instructions for iTunes 10, not the same as 11. New to iTunes - have LOTS of duplicates. There must be a way to delete them besides one at a time! Please help...

If you don't see a menu bar press Ctrl+B to reveal it or Alt to show it temporarily. To check your library for duplicates use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. Keep holding down shift until you have clicked on the text Show Exact Duplicates or it may still use the loser definition.
If you find that you have true duplicates you need to manually select all but one of each group to remove, or use my DeDuper script if you don't want to do it by hand. The script attempts to take account of different types of duplicates which need to be handled differently, merges playcounts and preserves playlist membership. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background.

Deleting "Duplicates" quickly in my itunes library

I have over one thousand "Duplicates" in my itunes library. They are AIFF and AAC or both. I want to quickly delete all the duplicates, focusing on getting ride of compressed files first. Is there a way?

Apple's official advice on duplicates is here... HT2905: How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created. If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.

The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.

Every movie purchase through iTunes fails to transfer to my iPhone or iPad and the message I get is this: some of the items in the itunes library, including were not copied to the ipad because you are not authorized for them on this computer... help?

For a couple months now, every movie purchase through iTunes fails to transfer to my iPhone or iPad giving me the error: "some of the items in the iTunes library, including were not copied to the iPad because you are not authorized for them on this computer". I have read many forums about deleting, reinstalling, de-authorizing and authorizing my iMac through the iTunes store. Many suggestions don't work except to rename the movie to *.MP4 in Finder under the iTunes movie directory. I imagine this is a setting or a bug somewhere... any suggestions on how to bypass having to rename the files in Finder? My research into Google suggests this problem dates back to 2007 or so but it is now more prevalent than ever.

I just backed up my library on a new external hard drive and noticed that all my media is doubled up. Aside from going through each item is there a way to do this on the latest version of itunes. There use to be a way via the file and clicking on duplicates items....Please help I have over 20000+ items!!!

Apple has removed that feature along with several others, but

Until then you will have to resort to sorting by a particular label such as artist and manually scanning, third party utilities such as Dougscripts Dupin to deal with duplicates, or revert back to iTunes 10.7.
Somewhere you're not doing something correctly. Backing up a library should not produce duplicates. There's no way it can.

Why does my Movie Library say I have more items than I do??

I have a question about my Movie Library.
When looking in my library at the bottom the count says I have 248 items. When Selecting all in the library it tells me I have 240 items selected. This is a little confusing as I've just done a data transfer and want to know I have all my stuff moved.
I count 240 in the Library but only 239 in my movies folder in my itunes library folder.
Any idea why this would be different??

"MOVE" not Copy items to the iphoto library

when I check this option in the preferences it copies the photos to iphoto and it leaves me with 2 copies! Why?!?! I just want to move them into the iPhoto library permanently, but if I uncheck the box it just links to it!

It's the nature of the beast. Just delete the original version of the photos after they've been copied into the library. The result, just one copy on the HD.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Had the same issue, found a solution.
The iTunes Store open in my iTunes was U.S. and the apps on my iPad are from Switzerland's store. So I went to iTunes Store in iTunes, then opened the App Store tab and at the bottom right of this tab clicked the round american Flag button. Changed to Switzerland, went to Store>Authorize this computer (which it did sucessfully) and after that syncronization worked great. Hope this helps

Duplicate Items in Outlook After Mailbox Move to New Server

We are performing a server migration and after moving a group of pilot users from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007, they are reporting duplicate items (emails, calendar, contacts, etc.) in Outlook. What could be causing this to happen and how do we prevent
it? What's the best way to fix the existing duplicates? The duplicates have sync'd to the server as they show up in Outlook Webmail as well.

How do your move these mailboxes from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007? Using move request in Exchange 2007 or exporting/importing a PST file?

ITunes 10.6.1, Home sharing: Show: Items not in my Library

iTunes Home sharing's feature to only show items not in my library used to work great, allowing me to keep my main iMac library and my MacBook Pro library synced. But just recently, my main library can no longer seem to sort out what items are unique in connected libraries -- it only shows the books that I don't have. Doesn't display movies, tv, music that aren't unique. I get the whole libary but once I press "Items not in my Libary" it doesn't work properly. What's odd is that I'm fine the other way. My MacBook Pro has no problems with the "Items not in my Library" selection when looking at my iMac's library.
Has anyone noticed change for the worse in the behavior of Home Sharing with respect to showing items not in the local library? I've tried turning Home Sharing off, rebooting both computers, and then turning Home Sharing on. But that doesn't fix it.

Error Message with Itunes "Some of the items in the Itunes Library...

Itunes gives me the following message when I hook up my Ipod.
"Some of the items in the Itunes library were not copied to teh Ipod because they could not be found"
For some reason my Ipod gave me this message. I went through and recopied my songs from the file on my computer and deleted the duplicates that had issues. Everything works fine for awhile. Then I hook it up again and get the error message again. I am not sure what to do now. Any ideas? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I got this message regarding my iTunes purchases when I got a new computer. I had to go into the Store/Authorize Computer... menu selection in iTunes and provide my iTunes Store ID and password. Don't know if this applies to you, but it fixed my problem. Even if you aren't on a new computer you might want to give it a try.
