Duplicate itunes tracks

after doing a restore of my of all my Mac stuff, I can see duplicated itunes tracks after opening itunes.
I have tried removing the duplicated tracks, yet after importing tracks via time machine restore, the same problem reappears.
Help please......

Have a look at Doug's AppleScripts, there are a couple in there to help you identify and delete duplicates: Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes

  • What is the best way for cleaning up duplicate iTunes files in iCloud?

I have about 5000 of my songs in iTunes that are duplicates in iTunes, when I go to delete them it asks me to delete in iCloud too. I do this and then another file is either uploaded or downloaded with iClouds. Is there a webbased way to access iCloud and clean up duplicate iTune songs?

iTunes 11 has removed the Show Duplicates/Exact Duplicates functions so I've added two new scripts to make playlists of Duplicates and Exact Duplicates to my scripts collection.
If deduping by hand use shift-delete to remove selected tracks from the library as well as the playlist.
The Exact Duplicates script makes a good starting point from which to run my DeDuper script if you don't want to do it by hand. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.

    Hello gogreenj14,
If you had iTunes Match updated with all of your non iTunes purchased content already, then yes, when you enable iTunes Match with the following article it will have all the content that has been uploaded to iTunes Match will be available for download.
iTunes: How to add a computer or iOS device to iTunes Match
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4913
Open the latest version of iTunes on the computer you intend to add. You can download the latest version of iTunes here.
Sign in with the Apple ID you use with iTunes Match.
Choose Store > Turn On iTunes Match.
Click the Add This Computer button.
When prompted, enter your Apple ID password.
iTunes will automatically begin scanning your computer's library for matches.
A status indicator will allow you to track progress. You may also manually pause and resume the process at any time by clicking the Stop or Start button.
Once iTunes has completed matching and uploading your iTunes library, your music in iCloud will be integrated into your local music library. A download button will appear to the right of any content that you have in iCloud that doesn't already exist on your computer.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Duplicate iTunes database files in Home Folder

Due to an ever-increasing number of songs in iTunes, I downloaded them to an external hard drive -relatively easily(with a lot of help) and successfully for the most part. But....
In order to trash my iTunes Music on the internal drive I had to re-organize the sub-files found in the iTunes file(path - Home>Music>iTunes>). All of the iTunes database files were in the iTunes Music file so I dragged them out and put them in the iTunes file. After I trashed all the music, by highlighting the songs and dragging them to the trash bin, the iTunes Music file(which should be empty) has ‘re-created’ the iTunes database files.
The iTunes seems to work fine. All newly added music is stored on the external hard drive and downloads to my iPod. However now my iTunes window crashes consistently and my external hard drive gets disconnected intermittently.
What should I do about the duplicate iTunes database files and is this duplication causing these new problems?

I would happily assign to you 100 points even now
LOL - just clicked 'Solved' on one of my replies when or if you are happy!
Is it possible that when you create a new library the database files also get duplicated
Well, almost. When you create a new Library, you are creating a new iTunes "window" into which you can import any of your music, irrespective of whether it also exists in another library. So, although the music may be the same, iTunes creates a NEW (not duplicate) set of iTunes Library database files for your new Library. The main one (iTunes Library) holds all your playlists, ratings, etc.
That explains why those new files you found inside your iTunes Music folder were all much smaller than the 4 files you moved out - they were new iTunes Library files. (that's what I meant in paragraph 2; the file sizes of the new set were all wrong - way too small; the set you moved out of the iTunes Music folder, were much more realistically bigger.
However, it may be that the CURRENT set of iTunes Library files is on the eHD with your iTunes Music folder, from what you say. Does the iTunes Library file on the eHD have a very recent timestamp on it? If so, that's the one iTunes seems to be using.
Following your directions in paragraph 3 I couldn't find the main iTunes Preferences .plist file
I'm now inclined to believe that your Preferences are not the problem, though I'm baffled as to how you couldn't find the file. The com.apple.iTunes.plist file MUST be there, I'm not sure how iTunes can run without it. And if it wasn't there, iTunes would create it anew when you run the program. You sure you looked in ~user/Library/Preferences ?
then download iTunes from the Apple site
The problems you describe are from a "wrong way of doing things" rather than a corrupt application, so I'd say no to this, right now.
Could I delete or trash parts or all of the iTunes folders and files somewhere along the path, such as after User/Music and on the external hard drive, without jeopardizing the music located on the external hard drive
{sharp intake of breath} - this is ONLY worth doing once we know which is the Library that iTunes is currently using. Certainly, we haven't got to the bottom of why iTunes re-creates those iTunes Library files in your iTunes Music folder.
One way to track down the current Library file is to add one track only to your iTunes, then quit iTunes. Now, drag each of the "iTunes Music Library.xml" onto TextEdit and then do a TextEdit "Find" for that track name. The .xml file that has that track in it, is part of the set currently being used by iTunes and you should note down where that set is.
Will hear from you again, I'm sure.

  • How do I use the Services menu to convert text to an iTunes track?

I'm trying to convert text to an iTunes track using the Services option on the Firefox drop down menu, but having trouble with it. I have set my preferences to turn on that option, but all that happens is I get a spinning wheel at the top of my screen, and it doesn't record. I can't see anything in the iTunes settings that I need to change, but wondering if that could be the problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Then you may be much better off posting your question in the ExportPDF forum,

  • ITunes Track CPR doesnt seem to be working

I have been trying to use the track cpr script to find some "lost" songs that arent really lost... the script doesnt seem to be doing much of anything when I run it.... this is on 10.6.4 with itunes 9.2.1
    Results:
    iTunes Track CPR
    Total tracks: 18
    Total MIAs: 8
    Recovered: 0
    Still MIA: 0
I know the files are are in the proper itunes style folder structure... im stumped why this isnt working. maybe my itunes version is too new??

have you tried toggling the hold switch...if that doesn't work, restor ipod nano (plug in nano, got to ipod updater, click restore [i may have the first otwo steps switched, so if is doesn't work, try with step 2 first])...if that doesn't work either, go to an apple store (if there is one near you)to get it replaced...if you don't live near one, send it in to apple (since so many people have problems that apple doesn't identify when they send it in, put a small note in the package

  • Exporting iTunes tracks as MP3

This is a similar query to that in thread 1015795, and is very simple:
Can I copy a track I've bought from the iTunes store to MP3 format?
Why do I want to do this? Because I've got a MP3 player I want to play it on, and I will not spend 3 figures on an iPod because I don't fancy being mugged either by Apple or some jerk on the street who sees me using it. I'm using iTunes for Windows at the mo, and it won't allow me to convert any iTunes tracks to MP3.
If the answer to the question is yes, then I'd be grateful if someone could let me know, and copy the message to [email protected] If the answer is no, then I'll never buy another iTunes track. TIA.
    Fred
PS: I've always liked Macs as technically-superior and user-friendly machines and currently have a Macbook, but I've always hated Apple's proprietary instincts, and I've a feeling that this whole iTunes thing is a way to force punters into buying iPods, which in truth are little more than fancy flash drives with DACs and a mini-jack and certainly not worth £150 ;-\

Ok, thanks for that reply - I'd not realised that the DRM was so inflexible. Luckily I've only bought a few iTunes tracks and I suppose I can burn them to CD to listen to on my fixed kit at home and work, but it's a pain not being able to put them onto a portable MP3 player. I'll make sure not to buy any more tracks in the future - I prefer CDs anyway.
When it comes to record companies, DRM, and copying, the phrase "******* in the wind" always comes to mind...
    Cheers

  • Duplicate audio track

    Hi,
I have a video clip that when I dropped it in my timeline dropped video and audio on only A1. I need two audio tracks and I have unlinked the video from the audio and tried to copy and paste it into the timeline on the A2 track to no avail. I've tried to duplicate the track and the duplicate option is grayed out on the menu. Can anyone help me get this audio track duplicated and onto the A2 track please?

I transferred it in from the external drive. It's red camera footage, so when I drop it in the timeline the audio shows up on one track. I'm working behind another editor, and he has all of the audio duplicated, so I'm trying to follow suit.

  • Dear Apple – Please help me restoring my purched iTunes tracks on my ned laptop

Dear Apple – Please help me restoring my purched iTunes tracks on my ned laptop.
I've bougt some new songs and they just disappeared from my computer and my iphone. How do I get them back? Please help! I'm from Denmark - I don't know if that make any difference!?

You are not addressing anyone working for Apple here. We are all just users such as yourself.
Regretably, the iTunes in the Cloud service is not available for music in Denmark:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085. You will not be able to re-download any music purchases. You'll need to restore from your local backup.

  • Unable to drag and drop itunes tracks intp idvd project

    hello
After selecting media I am unable to drag and drop most of my itunes tracks into my dvd projects ,this is true for both imported cd's and purchased music
Only a few tracks will show with the + sign
    any thoughts
    Thanks
    Paul T

Give this basic remedy a try. Quit iDVD and delete your iDVD preferences. To do this, go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.idvd.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iDVD; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.
If that doesn't work, do a verify and repair of permissions using Disk Utility.
    I hope this helps.

    Hi All,

  • Want to create a "duplicate" iTunes library.

I currently own 2 external 1TB hard drives. I am running iTunes directly from one since my laptop memory is very small. However, I have no backup in case of failure. I would like to duplicate my iTunes setup on my 2nd drive but I don't just want to do a "backup". I would like to be able to run iTunes from either harddrive so essentially I need to know how to create a duplicate iTunes setup on my 2nd hard drive.
Then, even if one drive entirely failed, I could just run iTunes off the other one seamlessly. Also, I can take one drive home and use it on my home PC. Obviously, over time there would be small changes occurring to either library but I would handle these manually, duplicating on one what I did on the other.

Organize the iTunes library from within iTunes and then create a duplicate of the entire iTunes folder on the second drive. The library can be moved between computers, but iTunes Store authorization won't be moved automatically and rented movies can't be played on other computers.

  • ITunes Track Starting Point

I am trying to merge an iTunes track into the audio on a piece of footage but I want the iTunes track to start at a certain point not at the begining.
I want to fade out the original audio and fade in the iTunes track starting a minute or so in.
Can't seem to find how to go about it.
    Help!

The easiest way is to use the Clip Trimmer.

  • Partial Duplicate iTunes Library onto MacBook Pro for portability?

As many of you, my iTunes library is growing leaps and bounds and as such I've have it on an external 1 TB drive. It is connected to my MacBook Pro while at home and it is the master to which I sync my iPhone and TV.
Now when I want to go portable with my laptop, I lose my iTunes library. I cannot transfer the entire library to the MacBook Pro because it is too large for the laptop's internal drive.
Is there a way to make the MacBook Pro have a secondary library that is a selected portion of your master library like you do with your iPhone or TV?
Surely someone has come across this with the use of laptops and explosive growth of iTunes.
    Thanks

you can create a secondary library on your MBP but, personally, i find running multiple libraries cumbersome.
instead, you can have selected content stored on your MBP (while the bulk remains on the external) and still use only one library.
you could use the following script to move your selection from the external to your boot drive:
    [_*Re-Locate Selected v1.1*_|http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=relocateselected]
This script will re-locate the files of the selected iTunes tracks from their current location to a new user-chosen folder. iTunes will be updated with each track's new location and all of each track's meta-data will be preserved. Option to remove the files from their original location. (I don't advise using this on more than an album's worth of tracks or so at a time; re-locating dozens of tracks' files to a single folder doesn't seem to make much sense to me.)
NOTE: If your "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" preference set, you will not be able to create new folders in or re-locate files within the iTunes Media folder; outside is OK.
or, you can do it manually:
    (1) go iTunes > preferences > advanced and temporarily point +*iTunes media folder location+* to your local iTunes folder. on the same tab, ensure +*copy files to ... when adding to library+* is check marked.
    (2) select (highlight) the desired content in iTunes, right-click (or ctrl-click) and choose +consolidate files+ from the pop-up menu.
when done you could delete the files you moved from their original location (the external) or just keep them there for backup purposes.
don't forget to point +*iTunes media folder location+* back to the external.
if you insist on a separate library for your MBP, you might want to take a look @ these 3rd party apps:
    PowerTunes
