Duplicate loops in GarageBand 11

My GB Loop Browser shows duplicate loops, I would like to remove the duplicates. Not sure how or where.
I know it's been asked many times but I can't find a GB11 specific solution. Previous versions of GB appear to store Apple Loops in different locations.
Much appreciated
AB

No, the loops have been stored in the same place for years: HD/Library/Audio/Apple Loops.
The first thing you should do is find out if you actually have duplicates in that folder. If yes, clean up so you have only one copy of each loop.
The next thing is to quit GB and delete the Loop Index (also in the Audio folder). When you start up GB now, it should come with no loops. Drag your cleaned-up Loops folder onto the Loop Browser for re-indexing.

  • Duplicate loops when GarageBand installed

I've noticed in GarageBand that I have many duplicate items in the loops browser. Almost every sample, if not all, is present in the list twice. Soundtrack (and FCE) came preinstalled on my Mac when I bought it from Apple, but I don't use Soundtrack. I rarely use GarageBand. I'd like to get rid of the duplicates to free up space, if possible.
Where are the music loops and sample sounds stored for Soundtrack and GarageBand? Can I easily remove one of the two sets? Is it better to remove the GarageBand-related sounds or the Soundtrack ones?
    Thanks.

See here and here for information about the loops provided with both GarageBand and Soundtrack.

  • How do you delete Duplicate loops from AMG (third party loops)?

I bought two packages from AMG but after installing them in GarageBand I noticed that some of their loops appear twice in the loop browser. I guess there was a copy of each of these loops in both AMG packages. I've tried playing some of them - just to make sure they're really copies of each other and they sound exactly the same. There are not many of these duplicate loops but they are scattered throughout the different categories in the loop browser.
Is there a way to just delete each duplicate as I come across it in the loop browser or do I have to do something else to get rid of the duplicates?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
    Regards,
    Jeff

I guess it will remain a mystery that I will have to live with unless someone can give me a clue as to where GarageBand is putting these loops or doing to these loops (like re-naming them something else) after I install them.
When I drop in new loops the computer does give me a message that says it's putting them in the Apple Loops folder but when I look in that folder the loops that I just installed are not there. When I search for them using a Smart Folder or Spotlight or 'command F" they don't show up. I also tried searching for individual loops with the "AMG" in the front of the name of the loop and without the "AMG" in the front of the name of the loop and they still don't show up in any of the searches - yet they are there in GarageBand ready to use.
    I just don't know.
Thanks everyone for trying to help me. I appreciate your time and effort.
    Regards,
    Jeff

  • Duplicate Loops. Not just in the browser - actual duplicate files.

i have GarageBand loops located both in Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Apple Loops/Apple Loops for GarageBand and Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Apple Loops for GarageBand.
as these are taking up space, which one can i safely delete - the one in Library/Audio or the one in Library/Application Support?

You can remove the loops in Application Support; in fact that is the old location.
But before to delete anything be sure that those are duplicates otherwise simply move them in the new location.

Thanks Barney, I tried that but all that comes up in Spotlight are the log files that show the file paths! I don't know how Steam works. Are all the files held by Steam on their server perhaps?

  • Installed Jam Pack but see no new loops in Garageband loop browser. Why not?

I successfully installed Jam Pack but don't see new loops in Garageband loop browser. Is there some extra step I'm supposed to do? Before, I had about 57 Rock/Blues loops, and I still have just that. I had 14 instruments under All Drums, and guess what? Still only 14.
I know the install completed successfully - it said so, anyway.
    Clues?

Have you filters set on the Loop Browser?  Make sure the GarageBand Preference "Loops > Keyword Browsing > Filter for more relevant content" is off.  Otherwise you will  see a fraction of the available loops.
To see, if the JamPack has been installed, set the pop-up meu at the top of the Loop Browser to "Rhythm Section". Is that available?
Did you reindex your Loops after installing the Jam Pack? And did you restart the Mac? In Mt. Lion only restarting a Mac will ensure, that an application is not resumed from a cache, when you launch it again.Restarting the Mac will terminate GarageBand for sure.
If restarting the Mac does not make the JamPack Loops show, rebuild the Loop index.  See:  Rebuilding the Loop Index in GarageBand 6 or earlier - Apple Support

  • Greyed out options on Apple loops on GarageBand ipod 5

i have some greyed out catagories for Apple loops in GarageBand, and I see that i can get some additional stuff free under in app purchases in the App Store, though I have no idea to get to it. How can I get the other loops?

I had a similar problem with songs greyed out and not syncing and apps not syncing either. I also tried multiple restarts and redownloading iOS5 etc. The one thing which seems to have sorted it out for me is buying a (free) app from the app store on my iphone and then syncing with itunes. Oddly enough this seems to have woken itunes up to the fact that stuff wasn't synced and started the process of a full sync.
A bit random and i read this on another thread, but it worked for me.

  • Greyed out loops in Garageband 11?

I installed GB11 from the Mountain Lion's Appstore and not from an iLife DVD. It required an update for the loops and most of them downloaded but there are still some greyed out buttons.
    Here's a pic: http://imgur.com/5OgugCL
All the support pages and discussions  gave me zero help thus far. I even tried downloading an update right from Apple's Garageband support pages for version 6.0.5, but that's apparently only for those who have installed via DVD. Solutions anyone? Please and thanks!

Contrary to the above response, it is NOT normal, and the grayed out loops are not supposed to be grayed out. It is not because you don't own Jam Packs and have them installed; the missing loops are not Jam Pack content.
The missing loops do belong in GarageBand '11, and have to be downloaded from Apple and installed into GB. The problem is, GB is broken in this respect, and it will not download the loops, and the App Store will also not update the loops. GarageBand will say it is downloading them in Software Update, but it will not do so.
I called AppleCare about this, and it took a couple tries, but we got it solved. It's complicated to do so.
It is, the support person said, the one thing broken in GB '11. Anyway, here's the procedure that worked to get them to install. (Hope I'm not giving up any state secrets here; they didn't swear me to secrecy and others do have the problem.)
First thing to do is go to GarageBand and make it go through its fakeout cycle telling you it's updating the loops. Click on any gray loop's download arrow, and tell it to download it now. It'll open App Store, and that won't download anything, and it'll all fail. Quit App Store and GarageBand.
Next, you need an administrator login user. I created one, called "apple" -- do this in the Users & Groups panel in System Preferences. (You do need admin privileges to do this; you may already have them in your own login, and thus not need to create an administrator login.) Gave it an easy password. Then, with Fast User Switching, I logged in as the administrator "apple."
It'll take a few minutes for your machine to set up this new user, so be patient until it's all logged in. (The mouse will be slow. You can change that in System Preferences Mouse panel if you want to.)
Now, open a Terminal window. Fastest way to do this: Spotlight (Cmd-Space), type in "terminal" and hit Return key once Terminal is highlighted in the Spotlight list.
Let Terminal get all set up, with a cursor available.
    You'll see something very like:
Last login: Sat Jun 29 18:55:22 on console
    ComputerName:~ apple$
    At the cursor prompt, type:
    sudo softwareupdate --list
    Hit Return. Now you'll see:
WARNING: Improper use of the sudo command could lead to data loss
or the deletion of important system files. Please double-check your
typing when using sudo. Type "man sudo" for more information.
To proceed, enter your password, or type Ctrl-C to abort.
    Password:
Type in the password you created, and hit Return. Now you should see:

       * GBExtraContent-1.0
GarageBand Instruments and Apple Loops (1.0), 1170290K [recommended]
Select and then copy (cmd-C) the GBExtraContent-1.0
Now, type at the ComputerName:~ apple$ prompt:
    sudo softwareupdate --install GBExtraContent-1.0
Now, you'll see the update take place. It'll look like this:
    Software Update Tool
    Copyright 2002-2010 Apple
Downloading GarageBand Instruments and Apple Loops
       104 KB of 1.2 GB
       1 MB of 1.2 GB — About 14 minutes
       2.5 MB of 1.2 GB — About 10 minutes
       4.1 MB of 1.2 GB — About 8 minutes
       6.1 MB of 1.2 GB — About 7 minutes
[This will continue until it's all downloaded.]
What you're seeing in that counting of GB and minutes is the countdown of the download and the install time. Let it run until it completes.
Give it a couple minutes to complete installing, and then start GarageBand in the admin login. It will take some time for GB to start up, because it's the first startup for this user. Several minutes.
Once it has completed (it takes a while, as I said), go to the Loop Browser. They should all be there, no gray.
Quit GB and go to your normal User and start GB there. The loops should all be present. If not, quit it and restart it. Now they should all be there.
At least, this worked for me this way.

  • Unable to download Additional Loops For Garageband Ctrl R Does Not Work

I am unable to download the additonal loops for Garageband on my iMac Purchased New Spring 2013.
I have done the following with no success:
    Uninstalled Garage Band.
Reinstalled Garage Band from App Store.
    Reindexed Loops
Clicked on missing loop and choose Update Now
Clicked on missing loop and choose Update Later
Used Ctrl+R in App store (nothing available). (Yes, I logged in with AppleID)
    Deleted Apple Loops Folder
    Deleted Apple Loops index Folder
    Re-indexed loops in Garageband
My Library... Apple Loops folder is empty, but the pre-installed loops for Garageband are there.
I have also tried the terminal command: sudo softwareupdate --list
    There are NO updates available.
Anyone have any addittional suggestions for installing the missing loops from Garageband?

What exactly happens, when you try to download the missing loops - when you click on a missing loop and choose "Update now"?
My Library... Apple Loops folder is empty, but the pre-installed loops for Garageband are there.
Are you looking in the library in your Home Folder
    "~/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/"  , or in the System library  "/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/"  ?
The loops should be installed in the System Library
    "/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/".
How did you set up your new mac? Did you migrate from an older mac using Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant? Did you migrate an earlier GarageBand installation?

  • Hello, can I still play Garageband 9 projects/loops in Garageband 10, and how? Thank you

    Hello,
Can I still play GarageBand 9 projects/loops in GarageBand 10, and how?
Do I need to re-install iLife11 to be able to play GarageBand 9 projects/loops in 11?
    Thanks in advance

GarageBand 10 needs the loops and instruments from Garageband ´09 or ´11 installed to be able to play the older projects with all sounds. Otherwise instruments and loops may be missing. If you uninstalled GarageBand completely, reinstall iLife '11 to be able to use the older instruments and loops in GarageBand 10. before you install GarageBand 10.0.
GarageBand 10. comes only with a basic set of instruments and needs to be expanded by an in-app purchase. If you have GarageBAnd '11 installed, you should be able to get the in-app purchase for free.   Expanding GarageBand for Mac (v10.0) content with an in-app purchase

  • How to download apple loops for Garageband 10.0.1 ?

How to download apple loops for Garageband 10.0.1 ?

If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
And yes, iDVD 7.1.2 will work with Mavericks.
    Happy New Year
