Duplicate names of the same file at playlist

Hi. I'd try to put all my music files at the same place. iTunes should do this, but doesn't work. After several times, I could delete all files outside iTunes folder. But a lot of songs remain duplicated in the playlist. When I click to show it in finder, I see the SAME FOLDER, in other words, is the same file listed twice. I'm out of ideas, any suggestions?

If nobody answers your post within a few days (or hours on the busier forums) then it will get buried under all the new topics and gets less likely to be answered as time moves on. A timely bump is often all that is required.
I'm not sure I understand your original question. There are a number of ways to get duplicates in iTunes. You can import the same file more than once so iTunes may make two copies, typically as Song.ext and *Song 2.ext* in the same folder. Under certain circumstances, e.g. with a disconnected external drive, it may be possible to add the same physical file more than once to the database. In this case two entires point to the same file. Regular (not smart) playlists are an ordered list of pointers to files and may contain the same pointer more than once. Normally there is a warning (but you may choose to disable it) that says when the list of files that you are about to drop onto a playlist includes some that are already in it and asks you to confirm if you want to create duplicate entries.
Whatever the cause, iTunes dones't provide a simple tool for deduping your library or your playlists. You might find Show Duplicates or Show Exact Duplicates useful, but you will still have to manually select and remove duplicate entries while taking care not to accidentally remove original files you want to keep.
These problems are nothing special to iTunes and can affect any media player. Keeping your data clean is a matter of housekeeping.

  • Opening duplicate copies of the same File in CS4

    Hi
I have recently upgraded some of my customers from CS3 to CS4 and I have noticed that when I open a document that was last opened in CS3 i can open the file more than once and they get listed as tabs. If i make changes to the the first open document and save it, the changes do not effect the other open copies of the file.
however once i have saved the file in CS4, if i try and open the document again it simple brings up the already open file in Indesign.
Is their any way I can make this the default behaviour for all documents, as a number of my clients have complained that they have accidentally opened the file more than once and they save the document and close it down and when they close the duplicate copies down and click save it overwrites all the work previously done.
    Thanks
    Nick.

I'm not sure what you want to change the default behavior to, but I'm pretty sure there's no way to change it. This is no different than the way previous versions opened old-version files, except that CS4 shows you the multiple, same-named files as tabs instead of as separate windows. If you want ID to behave exactly as it did in previous versions, you can turn off the tabs in preferences (Edit > Preferences > Interface > Open documents as tabs).
Why do you want to open multiple copies of the same file? If you're converting from CS3 to CS4, why not just open the CS3 file and Save As to a new name?
Keep in mind that CS4 H&Js slightly differently than CS3. You can expect to see some minor text re-wrap going from CS3 to CS4 (but not until you start editing a story). It's always a good idea to finish CS3 jobs in CS3, start new jobs in CS4.

  • Different photos with the same file name!! How to change this?

While I was organizing my photos, I realized there are about 30 or so photos that have the same exact file name as another photo. Example: There are two IMG_1243.jpg, but they are different pictures. They were taken at different times, even different years. I have used more than one camera to import photos. I have changed the name of one of the photos in the Title area in the information section of iPhoto. When I try to put the newly named photo into a folder that has the other IMG_1243, I get a message that says" An older item named "IMG_1243" already exists. Do you want to replace it with the newer one you are moving?"
I want to have both IMG_1243.jpg photos in the same folder. How can I do this? Also, I have a few thousand pictures, so how can I tell exactly how many photos have the same file name as another photo?

It sounds like you are using the finder inside the iPhoto library - do not do that - you will corrupt your library and lose the edits, keywords, etc that you have
iPhoto does not care about duplicate file names - it handles it fine
changing the title of a photo does not affect the file name - although when you export the photo you can use the title for the file name as an option
What are you doing and what do you want to accomplish?
Remember do not ever make any changes in the iPhoto library using the finder or any other program

  • Can I import 2 sets of photos with the same file name numbers?

I've inadvertantly not had my camera set to "continuous" for file names and now have 2 memory cards with 2 different sets of images with the same file names.
Can I still import both into Lightroom 2 without problems?
    What are the consequences?
    Thanks
    Stuart

Yes. Of course, two files with the same name cannot be in the same folder. And don't forget to uncheck Don't import suspected duplicates during import.
Another thing is that's not a good idea for good asset management, because someday you'll make some mistake because of this ambiguity. Good DAM practices suggest renaming your files after or during import, so that each files has a unique name across your entire image archive.

  • JCA DB Adapter process the same file twice in a clustered envrionment causing duplicate records

We have 2 Nodes in a OSB Cluster and for one of the webservices we use DB Adapter to process the records and send it to external system.
When ever we catch up with below exception and when the same records are reprocessed/retried the message is processed/sent by both the nodes which is causing a duplicate of records.

    Please advice!
    Thanks!

You have to use MOVE operation, if there is any remote exception occured, then move the file to someother folder and again move back to the same folder where the file pickup will start.
In that way you will be use the same file picked up next time when the polling happens.

  • When saving a File OS Is Creating Multiple Folders With The Same File Name

Not sure what I changed but, now when I save a any file (ppt. word, Keynote,Pages e.g.,) to the desktop or any other location the OS will also create multiple file folders with the same file name as the file I'm saving. Inside the folders are what appears to be files locating the saved files. What can I do to fix this problem?
    I'm using the 10.7.2 version

It looks like a finder bug. To replicate, I surf to any website, I right-click on a jpg image, select "Save Image As" and in the window that pops up I type in the filename "000.jpg", I select the folder Pictures, and click on Save.
BTW, I don't know why, but the file was saved only as "000" without the file extension ".jpg". Does anybody know why?
the extension is simply hidden. go to the get info panel for the file and uncheck the option to hide the extension.
Then I surf to another image, and again I save it as "000.jpg" and now it asks me if I want to replace the existing filename, although the existing one is "000" and I try to save as "000.jpg", so I say yes, and then magically the file is saved with the full filename including the extension "000.jpg"
When I did it a couple of times, always saving image as "000.jpg" from various sources, I ended up with two distinct files named "000" and both in the same folder Pictures.
    Please advise.
it sounds to me like you saved one file as 000.jpg and the other and 000.jpg.jpg.
check the info panels for the files for full names to verify if this is the case.

  • I can not transfer date from one hard drive to another, I keep getting an error because I have two of the same file names and one file name is in caps and I cant change the file name

can not transfer date from one hard drive to another, I keep getting an error because I have two of the same file names and one file name is in caps and I cant change the file name. My original external has an error and needs to be reformatted but I dont want to lose this informations its my entire Itunes library.

Sounds like the source drive is formatted as case sensitive and the destination drive is not. The preferred format for OS X is case insensitive unless there is a compelling reason to go case sensitive.
Why can't you change the filename? Is it because the source drive is having problems?  If so is this happening with only one or two or a few files? If so the best thing would be to copy those over individually and then rename them on the destination drive.
If it is more then you can do manually and you can't change the name on the source you will have to reformat the destination as case sensitive.
Btw this group is for discussion of the Support Communities itself, you;d do better posting to Lion group. I'll see if a host will move it.

I am working in a new enviorment and i am trying to save a report to the Crystal Server via the CMC. I am uploading the report from the objects tab and attempting to save to a folder. The report has 1 static defined parameter and that's it. When i click submit to save the report i receive the following error message: "There was an error while writing data back to the server: Failed to commit objects to server : Duplicate object name in the same folder." There is not a anothe report within the folder with that name. What could be causing this error message and equally important, what is the solution.

hte message you received about duplicate user probably means something hadn't fully updated yet. Once it did then it worked...

    Hi Guys,
I have got couple of files in a folder. I need to pick only two files, I have setup BPM procedure 2 payloads merge. To keep these merged file with  the same source filename.
    Source side file Directory
    abc_12345_20100408101029.xml (abc_seq number_timestamp.xml)
    xxx12345.xml
    test.xml
    abc_12345_20100408101149.xml
Target Side, How do I keep with the same file name?
abc_12345_20100408111239.xml ---  same file name with diffrent timestamp.
One more question: How to setup a file adapter to trigger between 2:00am to 5:00 am? in a particular time

    Hi,
One more question: How to setup a file adapter to trigger between 2:00am to 5:00 am? in a particular time
For this you can Availability time planning (i.e you can schedule the file adapter to poll for the files with in the time interval i.e 2 -5)...
for generating the file name at target side you need to look for the Dynamic Configuration as you need to change the timestamp for the file..and i am not sure how this works in BPM..
in normal scenarios dynamic configuration will help....

  • The same file with the same name need to call two RFC's with the sequence

i have to pick up the same file with the same name  and call the two RFC in sequence
scenario.i have xxx.txt file.file should be proces first calling the first rfc .
I created two different communication channels
for the first sender file communication channel i should not use processing mode archive, delete,Test
and only option is set read only.
if i set the read only the file ..then i can not use the same file again to call second RFC.
how we can acheive the above scenario?
    Regards,
    Hyma

If you want to file need to be picked up twice in same folder, it seems it is hard for PI adapter to achieve it, you should look for API's that control adapters availibility.
But if you have different folder, then it make your scenario simpler since you can process first time, then output to another folder, configure another adapter to pick up from different folder.

  • Opening 2 PDF's with the same file name

I have someone who has difficulty opening two PDF's with the same file name. They had a file open, then try to open another PDF document with the same file name as the original document, however it will not open (and no error displays) and reverts back to the "old" document. Any ideas?

Are this diferent documents? What version of Adobe Reader?

How can I put two files with the same name and the same extention into the same directory?
    Is this even possible?
    Thanks in advance.

Are you sure? I would be very surprised if that was the case.
How does the computer/filing system differentiate the files, if not by their names?
How do you tell the computer which one you want? (On the command line.)

Relink from One Image File Type to Another

Eugene asked an excellent question in the comments to this old post:
Say if I do decide to change the .tif to .psd and I move the .tifs out to another folder, would it or would it not be a good idea if Indesign said, “Hey, those .tifs aren’t available, there’s a similar name with a .psd extension, would you like to use these instead?” Then you just press, yes use my .psd files.
Many folks had asked for this ability, and so Adobe delivered: InDesign CS4 has a feature called Relink to Folder. It’s an awesome command (it lives in the LInks panel menu) because it basically directs InDesign to some other folder on your computer (or server, or whatever), where your images may live. So you can relink a hundred images from one folder to another quickly.
But even cooler, you can tell InDesign whether to insist on the same file type or use a different one. Here’s the control in the Relink to Folder dialog box:
So, you select one or more images in the Links panel, choose Relink to Folder, tell it which folder to look in, and choose a file extension. The original image doesn’t even have to be “Missing”! In fact, the two images (psd and tiff, in your case) can even live in the same folder.
    Sweet, yes?
