Duplicate notices
When I enter Birthday dates in my iCal it works fine. Recently, i discovered if I added the numerical date (11/11/1921) in birthdays section of the Address Book. it would convert the date to “November 11, 1921” and calculate how old a person is and transfer the info to iCal as “Name 90th Birthday”.
I have no problem with that but all of a sudden duplicates are appearing in the selected date in iCal. The only answer I could come up with was to export that vCard then delete that person’s file, followed up by importing the same vCard.
That corrected the duplicate bug but left an EMPTY Racetrack in addition to the normal Racetrack. I can’t remove to empty track
I hope I explained this good enough without any kind of screen shot attachment. which would have saved a bunch of words.

When can we expect a complete rewrite of iCal?
Having a good calendar application is very important and useful. But with all the complaints as shown in this discussion group it seems to demand a fix for many functions. I have 3 or 4 duplicate notices on my iPhone and iPad. Many times I put in an event and sometimes it shows 2, 3 and 4 lines of text but other times it won't show but 1 line even when there is more text there it doesn't show. Many items don't show at all which makes my iPhone calendar completely useless.
I have an iMac using Snow Leopard and iCal will not sync with iCloud for some reason. I continually get a message that says, ("The server responded with an error. The server did not recognize your user name or password for account "[email protected]" Make sure you enter them correctly.) I tried to change my password information to correct the problem but it would not except them. Phone support told me I must upgrade to Lion but I will never do that because I use AppleWorks and iMovie 6HD which is far more important to me. Those programs no longer work with Lion.
I am looking for another way to utilize a good calendar but would like to be able to rely on Apple for that product.
I might add that my contacts work very well with iCloud but not all with iCal.

"choose file name" loses the extension when clicking a file
I'm using the "choose file name" command in a script but when I click on an existing file it loses the extension.
Apparently the same problem as here:

Well, not that I know a work-aronud except for the obvious to type the extension manually...
Since I cannot think of any good reason for the command's interface to drop the extension deliberately, I'd classify this as bug.
You'd better send feedback to Apple requesting fix.
*If you send bug report via bugreport.apple.com, you'd likely get duplicate notice saying that it has been already reported. So try general feedback channel :

The more users want it to be fixed, the more chances for it to be fixed.

P.S. By the way, 'choose file name' command had not let user choose existing file (with existing files grayed out in dialogue). It is rather new feature letting user select existing file. Perhaps 10.5 (AppleScript 2.0) and later, I guess. Defect in new feature should be able to be fixed easily without breaking backward compatibility. -
Hi, I've 2 related problems with Aperture 3.2.1: (a) I cant import into pre-existing folders and (b) I cant apply keywords to a group of photos at one go.
(a) Importing files into pre-existing folders. I began a rough cataloguing process last week and noticed that when I have tried to update a folder with new photos Aperture either did nothing or it removed the images from the database and refused to 'see' that there were files in the source folder. I have to deselect theAperture insists on a new folder.
But your screenshots are showing that this is only happening, when you have the "Do not import Duplicates" flag disabled.
When I am trying to import into an existing folder it works; I can select the destination project I want to add to in the "Destination" menu, even after Aperture set this temporarily to "New Project", but I can change it back.
Only, when I disable "Do not import duplicates" and select an image that I already imported for import, the "Destination" is locked to "New Project" or other projects, but I cannot select the project, that the duplicate images are already in.
That why I asked, if you want to import duplicates.

The "Import" window should be empty, if the folder you select contains only duplicate images. Then Aperture will not show the duplicates in the Import window, if the "do not Import duplicates" flag is set. Are you sure, that the photos you want to import are not already somewhere in your Aperture library? Imported from the Photo Stream or in your Trash, or marked as "Rejected"? That the images do show only, when you disable "Do not Import Duplicates" suggests, that the images already have been imported.
You could test this by searching one of the filenames of the images you want to import. Go to the "Photos" view and enter the filename into the search field of the browser. Are the images already there?
If the images are indeed not yet in the library, but still Aperture is not showing them in the Import panel, when you disable "Do not import duplicates", your Aperture library may be corrupted. In that case repair your Aperture library, see Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library. -
Anyone else haveing a problem with appointments not syncing, duplicate appointments when syncing with Outlook? Noticed the problem a couple of days ago.
Also, noticed that my primary SMTP disappeared, and I had to re-establish to send e-mail.
Apple tech support was worthless on both issues.Hi I am also in the UK, but not with Tiscali and am having the exact same problems. I can also send with wifi, but not 3G. I have tried amending all sorts of settings, including those above and amending the smtp server to the settings for my provider, but all to no avail.
It is thoroughly frustrating, as I cannot send emails unless I have wifi access.

I recently converted to PSE13 from 11 and noticed what appear to be duplicate files.

What you are seeing are default subfolders within your catalog folders. Don't mess with the contents of the catalog folders, they don't contain any of your picture files, only the databases and their associated assets. You'll find such subfolders in any of your catalog folders whatever their version (11 or 13). They are not duplicates.
You should keep the PSE11 catalogs if you want to use them with PSE11 (you can keep both versions on your computer). Of course, you can delete the catalogs you no longer want to use. Simply use the catalog manager (menu File/catalogs...) and use the delete button; the catalog to delete should not be the active catalog, select another one first. Deleting catalogs this way will delete the subfolders you are seeing, like BreezeData etc. -

I have a new iPhone 4S and have noticed that when I text a friend with an iPhone it automatically send the message via imessage and sends the text twice, how can I stop this from happening?
Your phone is setup from default with iMessage turned on. Your friends phone obviously isn't. I have a friend that has an iPhone 3G[S] with an old phone plan that didn't require a data package and he's just been swapping the sim card for 5 years. When he's at home, his phone is on wifi and it sends over iMessage. When he's at work on 3G the phone defaults back to text message because he doesn't have a data plan to send iMessage over. The phone isn't actually sending 2 messages. You send in iMessage and if the other phone is off of iMessage, it will resend to that phone as a green text message. That person never got the blue iMessage you tried to send because their iMessage wasn't working.

Whenever you have a question, please post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements) and the results you want from that data. Explain how you get those results from that data.
If you can show your problem using commonly available tables (liek those in the scott schema) then you don't have to post any sample data; just the results and explanation.

Problem with Composer info/Album Artist/ tags & duplicate albums
I recently re-organized my iTunes library, which is on a network drive in my home. Since everything had gotten moved to new directories, I deleted all the songs from my iTunes library and re-imported everything. I've never been much of a playlist person, nor did I do any ratings of songs, so I saw this as a reasonable solution.
Everything seemed fine -- Some artwork went missing after I imported everything, probably because iTunes no longer sells a few of the albums I have? Not really sure, but I fixed that, and then noticed that a few of my albums were showing up with duplicates in Cover flow & Grid view. More specifically, I found several albums with "Album Artist" info for the first two tracks of the album, and then nothing in that field for the rest of the tracks. Likewise, there would be composer info for ONLY the first two songs, and none for the rest.
What would cause this? Does iTunes supply composer info? I'm not even sure where it's coming from, but now that I notice it, it's bugging me that several of my albums don't have any info in this field. Album Artist is easy enough to fix, but I'm not sure how to fix the composer field. Does Genius change or import any info for these fields? I did notice this right after I ran Genius, and when I ran Genius, I did lose my internet connection in the middle of it downloading info, and had to restore it.
Most of my CD's were ripped using Exact Audio Copy, and track info came from it's built-in freeDB utility. I just find it really odd that I've got a couple dozen albums like this, out of about 12,000 songs, and only the first 2 tracks of each album have Composer and Album Artist info.
Any ideas how to fix this?Welcome to AD!
I think WMP did this to random tracks in my library. Nicely filling in Album Artist & Compser on some tracks, and removing the track x of y info (the y went missing) and putting weird '0000 0A540 0000 ....'comments in the comment field.
Interesting that it only happened on the first 2 tracks of these albums - it was completely random on my files.
iTunes doesn't update track info from the internet, but WMP does. I rarely use WMP and it happened right after a WMP update. I have since turned off the option for WMP to get info from the internet.
Anyway....to fix the Cover flow & Grid views in iTunes, you have to make the Album Artist field match.
Select all the tracks from a CD, right-click > Get Info.
Answer yes , you want to edit multiple items.
Type in the Album Artist field. You can do the Composer field while you're at it, assuming you like having that info there.
Maybe there is some MP3 tag editor that would be faster, but that's the only way to do it in itunes.
Or perhaps you have backups that don't have this mess in the tags. -
