Duplicate Office Desktop Shortcuts

We are migrating from Novell GroupWise to Outlook 2010. Our existing users have Word, Excel and PowerPoint installed in Windows 7 x64 Professional, so I created an Office MSP patch file using the Office Customization Tool. The MSP works and after applying
the patch, it would add Outlook to the Start menu. The first time the user launches Word after the patch is installed, Office goes through a configuration phase. At the end, it creates an identical set of desktop shortcuts for Word, Excel and PPT.
How do I prevent the duplicate desktop shortcuts? I have not been able to find an answer. There is a configure shortcuts screen in OCT where you can specify the desired shortcuts, but it is designed for first time installation, not customizing existing installation.
I could use some help. Thank you.

Make sure that Office icon are still located on the path %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office 15\Root\VFS\Windows\Installer\{90150000-000F-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}
Please test to create a new shortcut from the program's exe file, then see if you may be able to change the icon of this new shortcut from the properties
Let me know the result above. Thanks.
By the way, some of 3rd party utility on the market may enable greyed out controls, I don't make the introductions here.

  • Custom Office desktop shortcuts deployed during change install show white

I have created a custom MS Office 2013 .MSP file with the Office Customization Tool using the setup.exe /adminfile. Our initial push was just with Outlook 2013. This created a shortcut on the Desktop. This worked great.
I now want to change the customizations and deploy the rest of Office. I do this using the msiexec.exe /p new.MSP command with a new MSP file created adding the other Office applications. This works as expected too except the newly added desktop icons show
a blank piece of paper as an icon. The other shortcuts in the start menu folder work fine and these blank icon shortcuts on the desktop work fine.
If I try to modify the shorcut icons on the desktop the "Open file location" and "Change icon" buttons are grayed out.
If I rip out Office 2013 and then do a full install with a new .MSP file using the setup.exe /adminfile this correctly adds the desktop shortcuts with correct icons. I'd rather not uninstall and then reinstall.
It seems the problem is with the msiexec install method.
I have seen this post from a similar problem in Office 2007 install here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/8849cc08-cada-417c-9c91-c71610ec62cf/repair-custom-office-shortcuts-deployed-during-install-with-msp-file?forum=officeitproprevious
The registry fix did not apply as there were no registry subkeys named with a number from zero to 100 in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers.
Any other options to resolve this?
    Thanks,
    Bob

  • Office 2013 - Creating desktop shortcuts using OCT

I need to create desktop shortcuts using the Office Customization Tool. But how does one do this when they have both 32 and 64 bit machines in the environment? The "Start In" path below is obviously going to be different when dealing with
    32 and 64 bit OS machines (c:\program files vs c:\program files(x86))
I'm following these directions but they look to be specific to a 64 bit machine: http://mystang69.blogspot.com/2013/08/office-customisation-tool-2013-adding.html

    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc179097.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396#Configure_shortcuts
    Start in
Enter a path to specify the default starting folder for the application. If you leave this box blank, the default folder is set to the folder where the destination file resides. If the path is not valid on a user's
computer, the user sees an error message when the user tries to use the shortcut.
Do you need to set a start in location?

  • Launching from desktop shortcuts results in shared JInitiator sessions?

    Hello,
I've been looking into how best to give users a route into my Forms 10gR2 application, and had set up a desktop shortcut. This is just a URL to an intermediate htm file, which then uses window.open() Javascript to run the URL for the application itself in a stripped-down browser window. I've turned off the Internet Explorer option 'Reuse windows for launching shortcuts', so a new IE window is always opened rather than use an existing one.
That all works fine in principal. I've noticed, though, that if a browser is already open, then clicking on the shortcut will open a new browser window (good) but that is still part of the existing browser process. This means that if I use the desktop shortcut twice, to start two separate sessions of my application, they are in different windows but sharing the same browser process - and the same JInitiator (I only see one instance of the JInitiator console, with outputs from the two sessions.) That scenario often causes the newer application session to hang terminally before login.
The problem doesn't occur if I manually force starting of a new IE instance to run my second application session. It definitely seems to be a problem with running two Forms sessions in one IE instance - I read on another post there was a known bug on this in Forms 10g904, I'd have thought this would be fixed by now..?
Has anyone else had similar problems? Or experience of using desktop shortcuts to start a Forms app?
    Cheers,
    James

I haven't done much with JPI, apart from testing it locally on my development box. I've successfully lobbied our DBA in support of creating an alternate JPI config on our test server, to evaluate its effect on an app currently under development, but I've yet to ask that he actually create that config.
My main reason for wanting JDK 1.4 or better, is to gain support for regular expressions. I'm running JPI 1.3.1_16, so I haven't had a chance to observe the behavior you're describing with JPI 1.5. The Java Plug-In Control Panel provides allows me to choose which JRE it employs -- does JPI 1.5 no longer support this? As for the sticky-cursor issue, I am not familiar with it -- I guess I'll have to research that a bit!
I'll be working with JPI more, over the coming weeks/months, and will be certain to report back with the results of my testing.

  • NWBC v3.0 installed, but "nothing happens" upon executing desktop shortcut

I have a problem with v3.0 of NWBC that I have recently installed.  Upon double clicking on the desktop shortcut icon, the initial NWBC 3.0 splash screen is displayed, but then nothing else happens.  I am not presented with any screen where I am able to select a backend system to connect to.   Task Manager shows the service "sapstartsrv.exe" still running (I'm assuming that this is linked to NWBC), but no other evidence can be seen that NWBC is actually running.
I would like to add that NWBC v1.0 works perfectly well on the same PC, and connects successfully to backend SAP systems.
    Some additional information.
    - I have just installed SAPlogon 7.20 + restarted (as the previous version 7.10 patch level 14 did not meet the required level of 7.1 level 15)
    - I am running XP SP3.  Windows hotfix 919477 is not required, as it is already present as part of one of the XP SPs.
    - I have reverted from Google Chrome as my default browser back to IE (+ restarted), to see if this made any difference, but still no luck.
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can shed any light on this issue, given the "scraps" of information provided above.
    Alistair Crawshaw

    Hi Ali,
I am also facing the same issue. After installing NWBC 3.0 when I try to run it, it just display the SAP splash screen and then get closed automatically and I am not getting any screen to select the backend system to connect.
    I saw your reply:
+Please ignore my question above. The problem was due to the fact that the backend ECC system that we were connecting to did not have the relevant EHP + Support Pack Level. After updating these, the connection was successful.+
But how did you get the screen to add backend system to which you want to connect?
    Regards,

  • Desktop shortcuts will no longer open firefox after a "shockwave" player software update

I can go to my email and click on links to web pages that open firefox, but not the desktop shortcuts. This happened after being prompted to install this software while trying to view a video on facebook.

A couple of quick things to try. Have you re-started your computer?
Have you tried on the desktop shortcuts - right click>open?
And a couple of questions. Is Firefox working properly via the URL Bar and the Search Bar?
    Do bookmarks open normally?

  • Is there any way to install iTunes on windows 7 without it changing all my desktop shortcuts to iTunes?

I just got a new iPhone 6 and I want to use iTunes to download songs and back my info up on iCloud, but every time I try to install iTunes it replaces all my shortcuts with iTunes! I had to entirely uninstall it last time to be able to use google chrome again. Is there any solution to this problem?

Should you find that all of your desktop shortcuts have turned into links to the iTunes application download and apply the lnk registry fix from www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/19449-default-file-type-associations-restore.html.

Delete the shortcut and make a new one. The 'real' application will probably be fine if you launch it from the Start/Programs menu.

However many times I re download the widget app I get the same result.

Re-installation of windows is out of the question!!!
I have tried everything on the forum with no sucess - any help gratefully recieved. Thanks

I have EXACTLY the same issue, had issues with downloading excessive data. Uninstalled latest version of widget and latest version of Adobe Air. The I reinstalled them fresh...or tried too. The Met Office Widget failed exactly as yours did. My log looks like yours.
I contacted the Met Office and got this response:
    Thank you for your email.
There is a known issue at this time with the Met Office Desktop Widget which is currently under investigation by our IT Team.
We hope to have this resolved shortly and we apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
We just might have to wait they have no date for a fix yet!

  • IE Desktop Shortcuts very slow to open web page

    Hello,
I wanted to see if someone could help me solve a problem. I have a user at work I'm trying to help solve a slowness issue. He is using IE 9 on Windows 7, and visiting both Yahoo and Goggle Finance pages. What he does is save a shortcut to those pages on
his desktop. He has recently complained that when he clicks on either of the shortcuts, the page takes about 2 minutes to fully open. I confirmed that is the case.
If I open IE to his home page, then type the site manually, it opens very fast. I saved that page to the Favorites list, and that opens fast when accessed. I re-created the desktop shortcuts, but that does not fix the problem. Only the shortcuts to the web
    are slow.
We are on a domain, and the My Documents folder is being redirected to a file server, but not the Desktop. I considered that desktop shortcuts might be directed through a different path, but I don't see where.
When asked the "what changed" question, he says nothing. But I'm pretty sure he upgraded Java when prompted, as it is not coming up. Not sure if Java would make IE shortcuts run slow.
Any help or guidance is appreciated.

    Hi,
I suggest you test the issue with no add-on first.
    Check Internet Explorer Add-Ons
    =========================
    1. Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
    2. Click the "Programs" tab, and then click Manage Add-ons.
    3. Select an add-on in the Name list, and then click Disable.
    4. Restart IE with Add-ons and check the issue again.
    Also refer to this: http://support.microsoft.com/gp/pc_ie_intro
    Hope this helps.

  • To create a desktop shortcut icon for the application for a jar file

    Hi
I have created a jar file for my application. when i double click this jar file, the application opens.
    What i want is--
Instead of user clicking on the jar file, my application also has to create a desktop shortcut icon.
If the user clicks on the icon which is on the desktop the application should open.
    Please suggest me.
    Thanks in advance.

    >
Please suggest me.>Launch the application using java webstart. A webstart launch offers things like a splash screen, automatic updates, and desktop integration in the form of desktop shortcuts and program menu items. If the launch file specifies icons, they are used for the shortcuts, otherwise a generic icon is used.
For a comparison between a sandboxed webstart launch and a plain app., try the [Text Width Checker|http://pscode.org/twc/].
While the TWC can run OK within the security sandbox, many applications need to be digitally signed and request extended permissions, to do what they need to do.
STBC is an all-permissions webstart launch.
    Edit 1:
And for one that definitely suggests desktop shortcuts (I usually avoid them, in favor of a menu item only), try the sandboxed [demo of the PrintService|http://pscode.org/jws/api.html#prs], which prompts the user to choose.

  • I am not able to load image from localdesktop in FF 7.01 via mu javascript but I am able to load and view is my office desktop with same version of FF.What setting are not the same in both boxes ?

I have JS where in from HTML input file type box, I pull the path of the image and then set it as src to image tag via javascript and display it on the same page for viewing. The same piece of code works fine in my office desktop FF 7.01 but it does not work in my local desktop computer when I download and install ff from mozilla.what setting should i change so that it displays my image in my image placeholder.

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • Can't create a desktop shortcut for a website in Firefox Tor Browser

I am a Tor Browser user, and I really like the Firefox interface. According to my about page, my Firefox browser is up to date. But For some reason I cannot save desktop shortcuts for a website. Every time I drag the icon next to a website (variously a glob, a green lock, and other icons), I get a denial mouse icon anywhere I try to put the web shortcut on the desktop. This even happens when I drag bookmarks from my bookmark bar! My guess is that something is blocked in the Tor settings that won't allow shortcuts. Any suggestions on where the shortcuts settings are in Firefox?

I don't know that program. Go to its Mozilla Add-ons web page and find the support link. Then ask them about this. It may be a bug.
Do the other add-ons I sent you work okay? Then you should be about done, until you hear from the Tor support people.
Once you get an answer, please post it here. Good Luck, Happy Holidays !

  • Files and Desktop Shortcut gone??

I seem to have lost all of the forms I created in the Adobe FormsCentral File and the desktop shortcut is missing. Any ideas what could have happened? Additionally, all of the forms I created and saved at *.pdfs using FormsCentral created forms are missing from folders. ????

    Hi;
Did you resolve this or do you still not see your shortcut and PDFs?  FormsCentral doesn't have any control over those PDFs you saved after you save them and could not remove them, the desktop shortcut could have been deleted on accident and could be restored easily.
Are you still able to launch the FormsCentral desktop application?
    Thanks,
    Josh
