Duplicate or Blank Photos

Hi,
I downloaded the new Photos app over the weekend and have had my first proper look at it today.  I did a full Time Machine backup and separate Documents backup with my pictures included in this second backup.
I appear to have a number of blank photos and duplicate photos in the latest year on the Years view of the Photos section of the app.  If I mine down into the pictures to the Moments level they are still there as blanks or duplicates.  Metadata looks the same as the photo next to them and if I double click on them the photo appears - when I do this the split view thumbnail is blank for a short while and then flicks up with the same duplicate photo.  This all seems very strange - and I do not want to delete the photos for fear of deleting something that I will later regret.
I have also tried to go into Aperture to see if the same problem appears there but none of my photos are visible at all.  The entire library is now empty.
Has anybody else had problems with these weird duplicates?  Any ideas??

Do you have a backup copy of your iPhoto Library made just prior to upgrading to 10.10.3 and Photos?  If so  do the following:
1 - restore it
2 - launch iPhoto with the Option key held down
3 - select the library and close iPhoto
4 - relaunch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and apply the following two first aid processed to the library:
Option #1, Repair Library Permissions
Option #2, Rebuild Thumbnails
Option #4, Rebuild Library Database
5 - launch Photos with the Option key held down , select, open and convert the rebuild iPhoto library
6 - check to see if the blank thumbnails issue is resolved

Please specify what system, (OS X 10.?)
    hardware of the computer model...
and application you are using to print.
If you have an Intel based Mac built after 2006, you are in a pre-Intel forum.
PowerPC Macs cannot run an OS X newer than Leopard 10.5.8, in general.
And many newer applications need the Intel-based hardware, not PPC.
There are several ways of performing tasks, based on the software in use
and this changes when you may have posted in a different area than your
computer model, thus software suggestions based on this, may not apply.
As a user-to-user support community, we have no way to know what your
computer happens to be, its OS X, or the application you may be running.
Some photo card stock (paper) requires a maker's software, to set it up.
Without anything to go on, you could try an online search engine...
    Good luck!

  • How to delete duplicate pictures from Photo Library

How to delete duplicate pictures from Photo Library in iPhone 3G 16 giga?

The only way to delete photos from the photo library is by the same way the photos were transferred to your iPhone - via the iTunes sync process.
Are you saying a photo or all photos transferred to your iPhone via the iTunes sync process are duplicated in your iPhone's Photo Library without being duplicated in the folder on your computer where these photos are stored?

  • IPhoto '08 prints blank photos

Since updating to iPhoto '08 on a very new MacBook, when trying to print photos with a Canon Selphy DS810 it only prints blank white pages. In the print dialog it only shows blank photos:
    http://homepage.mac.com/dsemaya/.Pictures/iphoto.png
I can print from Preview but it is hard to get the picture to scale properly.
Anyone know what is causing this?

Daniel, I suspect that you have lost the connection between your thumbnails and the larger .jpg version that can be sent to the printer. try this: what happens when you double click on the thumbnail as if to edit te picture? If you have a blank square, this is your answer. You'll have to rebuild your iPhoto library. If there is a picture after double clicking, then you've got another issue.

  • Duplicate of another photo in a catalog.

When I go to import photos from my external drive into lightroom 5 i am unable to select any of the photos because it says that  "this appears to be a duplicate of another photo in the catalog" .  This means I may have imported them previously but I cannot find where i imported them to.  Is there any way that i can find the photo in the catalog?  When i click on Library and Find and search for any of the file names it none of them ever come up.  I can uncheck "Don't import suspected duplicates"  but i would rather make sure that i did my best to look for the previous import.  Thanks in advance!

I would import the file and the select it in All Photographs and pick a sort of Capture Time and the file should show alongside. The duplicates query is not infallible.

  • How can I identify and remove duplicate file (audio & photo)

How can I identify and remove duplicate file (audio & photo)?  I have quite a few libraries created as backup files.

    Terence,
Yes, the duplicates appear in the iPhoto window. I have folders with same name occuring two or even three times sometimes with exactly the same set of photos (ie photos with the same ID) and sometimes with a limited set of photos. Other  folders appear only once.
I normally take my MacBook with me if I'm shooting a lot of photos, such as on holiday, and then want to transfer them to my iMac when i get home. Other times I transfer the camera's memory stick directly to my iMac.
I have great difficulty transferring the photos from my MacBook to my iMac. I don't want to store my photos on my iDisk due to the length of time it takes to upload them.
    Thanks again.

  • Hi I am wondering if anyone can help me. I have two albums in my photos app other than the camera roll that i cant seem to get rid of. They contain duplicates of the photos i already have in my camera roll and its using alot of space.how do i delete them?

Hi I am wondering if anyone can help me. I have two albums in my photos app other than the camera roll that i cant seem to get rid of. They contain duplicates of the photos i already have in my camera roll. One is called Photo Library, and the other is called iphone. It's using alot of space and I don't know how to delete them. Please HELP!!

those are photos that have been synced to your phone from your computer. plug in your phone to your computer, open itunes, select 'photos' tab from the top, and uncheck 'sync photos'
this will erase the photos from your phone that are not in the camera roll

  • Duplicate folders in photos - the solution

Starting with iOS 5 I was frustrated that I had what appears to be duplicate folders in Photos.
The iPhone one, Photo Library, and the one that I sync from on my computer.
    Both had the same pictures
    Problem solved....
It turns out that if you add a sub folder to the one on your computer you sync with (Wallpaper, Family, or whatever)
you will see "Photo Library" which will contain all the pictures from the folder you sync with and
"Wallpaper", "Family", or whatever folders below it with only the pictures you place in this sub folder on your computer.
In otherwords iOS5 expects you to break up the pictures in the folder you sync with into focused catagories.
    Neat...
Be sure you have "All folders" turned on when you sync

This has been the same since day one with iOS 1.0 with the original iPhone.
All photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync/transfer process are stored in the Photo Library. Photos in the albums or folders below include a pointer to the original photos stored in the Photo Library. Photos on the albums or folders of photos below are not duplicated as in taking double the storage space.
This way you can view the photos in an album or folder only by selecting the album or folder, or you can view all photos in all albums or folders by selecting Photo Library.
A photo cannot be in an album or folder without being in the Photo Library.

  • How to sync iPhone photos with iPad and Mac without duplicates and deleted photos?

I have a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.8.5, iPhoto 9.4.3), an iPad2 (ios 6.1.3) and iPhone (ios 7.0.4).  I take my pictures on the iPhone and use the iPad for viewing.  I use the MBP for storage and backup.  ios 7 seems to organize the photos nicely, so I no longer need iPhoto for organizing.
What is the best, easiest and most efficient way to share, save and backup photos (iCloud prefered versus plugging devices into the MBP) between the 3 devices without duplicates and deleted photos?  With Photo Streaming turned on, I get duplicates and it retains photos that I have deleted.
On all three devices, I turned on Photos & Camera > My Photo Stream and Shared Photo Streams and iCloud > Photo Stream.
On the MBP, I have everything under Photo Stream EXCEPT Automatic Import (I took off recently hoping to eliminate duplicates).
If someone else already asked this question, I apologize.  This is very confusing.

While waiting for a reply, you can read the documentation that was in the box your iPad came in.  It's a book about a Spanish guy called Manual.
The answer is iTunes.  Download it.  Install it.  Read the instructions.  Use it.

iPhoto 9.5.1 has suddenly got all blank photos.  If I scroll through the photos they appear briefly and disappear.  I have not updated to Yosemite - I am still running Mavericks on an iMac.  I have been through the database rebuild and repair routines.  I uploaded photos and movies three days ago and all was well.  Then I used the migration assistant to copy from Time Machine to a new Macbook Air and noticed blank photos.  I thought it was a problem with the Macbook Air, but then I went back to the iMac to check and they were all blank as well.

what does appear after the photo "flashes"?
Have you repaired permissions? If not backup your iPhoto library and option-command launch and repair permissions - then repair the database and if needed rebuild the database
If that does not do it down iPhoto Library Manager on the iMac and use the free trial's rebuild command to create a totally new library leaving the existing one alone
Once you have the iMac working correctly then connect the two systems together (or use an external drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) ) and drag the iPhoto library form the iMac to the pictures folder of the MBA (rather than migration assistant)
