Duplicate paragraphs

While editing and adding to a document pages has duplicated the opening paragraphs further down in the document. When I try to delete the extra paragraph it also deletes the original paragraph. How do I fix this?

Welcome to the Apple forums
Did you happen to put those opening paragraphs in the header? Show Layout (⌘ ⇧ L) from the View menu will help you determine if that is the problem.

  • [AS] Applescript - Duplicate paragraph from one text frame to end of second text frame?

    Working in InDesign CS5
    Still banging my head against the wall over this last bit of code I need to figure out to finish a much larger script. What I'm looking to do is take a paragraph ('contents' from looping in larger script) from one text frame and duplicate it to the END of a second text frame (represented by 'Ad_Box'). The only thing I've gotten to semi-work is this:
    set insertion point -1 of Ad_Box to contents
    The problems with the above script are:
    1. Minor problem (can be worked around in InDesign CS5) - The script does not keep the formatting from the original paragraph that I want duplicated. The paragraph style of all "inserted" paragraphs is set to default
    2. The big problem - When the second text frame is too small for a particular word in original paragraph, the paragraph is moved to the wrong position in the text frame when the script completes, which is moving 4 paragraphs in total (this one baffles me). In other words, if I'm running script to be p1, p2, p3, p4 and p2 had a word too long to fit in text frame, on completion it will look like p1, p3, p4, p2.
    This is why I'm hoping to use the DUPLICATE command in some capacity, but I'm stumped. I set up a dialogue prompt to help me debug, and whenever I use the DUPLICATE command my script skips right over the dialogue, so I know it's not reading properly. This is what I've tried with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
      duplicate contents to insertion point -1 of Ad_Box

    Mary, you were absolutely correct!! This fixes the problem of placing the contents into the wrong spot, AND it runs the script much faster too! Thank you.
    However it is still not carrying over my "applied paragraph style" that is on "contents". Does 'insertion point' not work this way?
    What looks like is happening is that in the InDesign app, whatever my default selected paragraph style is is what the insertion point type is placing as.
    I might try to set my applied paragraph style after the "last insertion point" call and see if that works. I'll update this reporting results

  • Are there any project analysis tools to optimize a project?

    So, our devs use Coverity (http://www.coverity.com) to scan their code to look for problem areas they can refactor. My boss asked me if there are something out there like that but for documentation projects. I know RH offers the Tools | Reports, but I'm worndering if there are Adobe or 3rd party tools out there that can analyze a RH documentation project in the background to provide you with a list of items to fix or improve. I'm also looking for something that checks a documentation project for duplicate paragraphs, that we could then rewrite as snippets.
    For example, MadCap's Flare has an Analyzer tool: http://www.madcapsoftware.com/products/analyzer/
    Is anyone aware of tools like this that works with RH projects?

    I am not aware of any tool that does what you want with RoboHelp but I wonder if there are such tools more readily available for Word. If there are, you could generate a printed document and work with that.
    Please follow this link and submit a feature request. Make sure you mention Flare has such a tool, albeit a chargeable extra.

  • Hyperlinks disappearing in InCopy

    Any help would be very greatly appreciated!
    I'm working on a 13-chapter technical manual which I've laid out in InDesign. My team is evaluating whether InCopy would be a good editing tool for us. When I open my chapter files in InCopy, however, all of my figure references (xrefs) appear as missing in the hyperlinks panel. My cross-references are referencing figure captions (paragraph numbers) that sit in text boxes to the right of the main story text box.
    When I then check the file back in to the server from InCopy and check it out with InDesign, the links still appear as missing and need to be rebuilt. If I rebuild the links in InCopy, they will break again when I open them in InDesign and vice versa.
    What I've also noticed (in case this is helpful) is that:
    1. the figure paragraph numbers start over at "1" in InCopy. I assume this is because they're a part of a book and when the chapter files are put into assignments, the assignment files are no longer "aware" that they're a part of a book and so page numbers and figure numbers don't appear as they do in the InDesign book. I tried to correct this by creating a duplicate paragraph style for my first caption and starting the number off at the right caption number. This made each cross reference match its corresponding caption number (in appearance) but the hyperlink is still missing.
    2. From InCopy, I can only see the captions of the figures (which are in seperate text boxes) in the Layout view. I can edit the captions from the Layout view, however. and those edits will appear in InDesign when I check in/check out.
    Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong???? Thanks in advance!

    Copy/Paste whole cells will always retain formatting.
    What you have to do is: Copy/Paste Without Formatting the text contents of the individual cell.
    You have to do that individually for each cell, if you want to copy over text of a whole table.
    A better approach would be to:
    1. Copy the whole table to Excel (or a different spread sheet application)
    2. Copy again from that
    3. Select one single cell and paste
    In that case "Text Only" should be selected from the Clipboard Handling Preferences.

  • Virus in mac or app has bad website?

    I was looking at an app called "iSimulate" at this link: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/isimulate/id306908756?mt=8
    When I click on the website "vimov, LLC Website" or on "iSimulate Support" , I receive a message requesting me to enter a text to prove that I am human. The website claims that my computer is compromised with a virus. I don't think I have any virus.
    Does anyone else see this issue? Or is there something wrong with their website?
    Their app is on the appstore. Normally I consider all apps purchased from the app store to be "safe". But I am not sure what to do about this one. I haven't purchased it yet, but am wondering if there is something really wrong with my computer or just their website.
    Everything on my computer seems to work fine.

    Is Java or Flash or runaway script the most likely source of the Endless Spin ???
    Is there a reason my performance will be DOWNGRADED if I don't have the latest & greatest Java or Flash? Are there any plug ins / extensions which are more likely culprits?
    In Safari I use AdBlock, Ghostery, DoNot Track Me & some others, had to abandon some that gave problems but the stuff I'm using seems to play well with the OS.
    In Firefox I've got Ghostery, AdBlock Plus, Disconnect, Flashblock, NoScript...
    Hoping I don't have add-ons that duplicate each other's function, that can cause problems.
    That page "Reset Firefox" contains multiple duplicate paragraphs, only with the list items in slightly different order... really quite confusing.
    I have spent a hell of a lot of time installing add-ons and figuring them out & setting their Preferences. I really don't want to just trash them. And turning them all off and then on one at a time... waaay to many permutations there to hope that I might stumble upon some one or pairing that is a problem...
    Does the Reset at least create a file telling me the names of the add-ons etc so I can go get them again?
    AFAIK Apple no longer makes a 17" laptop, and I really want this big screen. Not to mention I hate the throwaway, non-user modifiable design premise in their current laptops. I WANT to change the battery, hard drive, memory, etc. and absolute minimal weight is a stupid design critera. Apple is brain dead these days...

  • Duplicate a paragraph in place

    Hello All,
    I have a paragraph with an anchored frame in it.

    I tried using the duplicate method, but the closest I can get the duplicate is at the end of the story. Thank you very much.

  • Script to duplicate Basic Paragraph style, then change character point size

    I'm looking to create a script that will create a cascade of paragraph styles based on the [Basic Paragraph] style settings. My goal is for each new paragraph style's character point size to be a percentage of the original [Basic Paragraph]'s. So if [Basic Paragraph] is 100% (character point size 10pt), the script would create a paragraph style named '120%' that has a character point size of 12pt. Then 133%, 140%, so on and on. I modified a script found on this forum to generate those new styles, but I don't know how to create them to be basedOn the [Basic Paragraph]. Any help would be very much appreciated, thanks in advance.
    current script:
    var doc = app.activeDocument,
        pstyle = ["100%", "120%", "133%" ];
    for(var i =0;i<pstyle.length;i++)
            if(pstyle[i] == "100%")
                doc.paragraphStyles.add({name:pstyle[i], appliedFont:"Stag", pointSize:10});
            else if(pstyle[i] == "120%")
                doc.paragraphStyles.add({name:pstyle[i], appliedFont:"Stag", pointSize:10*1.2})
            else if(pstyle[i] == "133%")
                doc.paragraphStyles.add({name:pstyle[i], appliedFont:"Stag", pointSize:10*1.33333})

    Try this,
    var doc = app.activeDocument,
        pstyle = ["100%", "120%", "133%" ];
    for(var i =0;i<pstyle.length;i++)
            if(pstyle[i] == "100%")
                doc.paragraphStyles.add({name:pstyle[i], basedOn: doc.paragraphStyles[1], appliedFont:"Minion Pro", pointSize:10});
            else if(pstyle[i] == "120%")
                doc.paragraphStyles.add({name:pstyle[i], basedOn: doc.paragraphStyles[1], appliedFont:"Minion Pro", pointSize:10*12})
            else if(pstyle[i] == "133%")
                doc.paragraphStyles.add({name:pstyle[i], basedOn: doc.paragraphStyles[1], appliedFont:"Minion Pro", pointSize:10*1.33333})

    my birthday events for only some of my contacts are showing up twice in my iPhone. They are not showing up twice tho on my iMac. No, I do not have duplicate names in my address book either. Any idea how to fix that?

    I have uploaded the InDesign file so that you can take a closer look at:
    http://www.hsdesign.comuf.com/downloads/
    The file is called "Template_File.indd"
    So, as discussed the main issues are:
    1) The TOC doesn't generate all the listings (only those with the applied paragraph style "Heading 1 - Appendix")
    2) When I try to create a new pargraph style and apply it to existing or new text, it reads the pargraph style in the Paragraph Style menu, but the style doesn't actually apply.
    Hopefully you can figure something out from this. I really appreciate your help.
    Thanks!

  • [JS InDesign CS3] Style groups, begone! (or: How do I take paragraph and character styles out of style groups?)

    Sorry for this question (and my terrible English, by the way), I'm a javascript noob and I know when I've reached my limits.
    Well, I'm trying to take a set of paragraph and character styles out of the style groups they are placed in, in hundreds of InDesign documents (that cannot be treated as a book). As far as I've tried (thanks to the invaluable help of previous posts in this forum) I've been able to move a style into a group and change it's position inside the group, inside the root level or even between groups. But it doesn't matter how I try, I don't know which move reference should I try in case I want to take every style out of their style group and place them after their original group folder, at the [Root] style level .
    I have tried:
    var doc=app.activeDocument;
    var pGroups=doc.paragraphStyleGroups;
    for (i=pGroups.length-1; i>=0; i--){
         var pStylesInGroup=pGroups[i].paragraphStyles;
         for (j=pStylesInGroup.length-1; j>=0; j--){
    // Here I am, trying to move a style outside the folder that contains it, and failing miserably.
              pStylesInGroup[j].move (LocationOptions.after, pGroups[i]);
    It didn't work, the script sent an invalid parameter value in the reference field, so I cant use the group folder itself as reference.
    Tried other (obviously wrong) solutions, like use the first available style as reference. Therefore, my second script was
    var doc=app.activeDocument;
    var pStyles=doc.allParagraphStyles;
    var pGroups=doc.paragraphStyleGroups;
    for (i=pGroups.length-1; i>=0; i--){
         var pStylesInGroup=pGroups[i].paragraphStyles;
         for (j=pStylesInGroup.length-1; j>=0; j--){
    // Now I try placing the styles after the [Basic Paragraph], that is, the second paragraph style in the document style list
              pStylesInGroup[j].move (LocationOptions.after, pStyles[1]);
    It didn't work either, another invalid parameter in the reference field. Similar results with my other attempts (I even tried "[Root]" as literal with similar luck).
    So, my question is: Which command (or script, in case my whole approach is utterly wrong) should I use to achieve my goal?
    Thanks in advance to whoever decides to spend more than a minute thinking about my humble worries, and my apologies for shamelessly ripping some of your lines of code for my purposes.

    Okay, tried a few things and got really weird results!
    1. You can move a style around inside its group.
    2. You can move a style out of a group "to" another, but it will appear 'inside' that style. I got my test style as a sub-item of [Basic Paragraph], using index #1. With index #0 ([No Paragraph Style]) InDesign crashed.
    3. You can duplicate the style, but then you get a copy in the same group. Still no luck.
    4. Finally! What is the parent of a paragraph style?
    Document | Application | ParagraphStyleGroup
    "Application" is easy -- that's when you make a style global. So what's the difference between 'Document' and 'paragraphStyleGroup'? Simple -- well, when you finally get it...
    pStylesInGroup[j].move (LocationOptions.AT_END, doc);
    moves the style out of the group and to the end of the list in the document. I don't think it's possible to move it directly to a specific position into the main style list -- you first have to move it out of a group, then move it around in its own list.
    Fortunately, it returns its new position as a ParagraphStyle again, so if needed, you can use
    newStyle = pStylesInGroup[j].move (LocationOptions.AT_END, doc);
    newStyle.move (LocationOptions.AFTER, pStyles[1]);
    -- I didn't really try that out, but it should work.

  • Duplicate bookmarks in PDF created from Framemaker 8

    Hello,
    I'm working on some legacy content using Framemaker 8 p266. Every time I create a PDF, I get duplicate bookmarks. The first set is wrong, and the second set is formatted correctly and contains the right content.
    For example, it basically looks like the PDF is grabbing all of the content from the Table of Contents page, and then listing the correct bookmarks (Section title, heading 1) after that.
    I'm creating my PDF using the Save As PDF option. In the PDF Setup for Selected Files dialog, I do have the Generate PDF Booksmarks option enabled, "Bookmarks Expanded Through Level" is set to None, and in the Include Paragraphs field I have Appendix Title, Head 1, and Section Title.
    I'm using Adobe Distiller XI, maybe that's my problem.
    Any ideas? I would appreciate it.
    Susan

    Are these duplicates side-by-side (e.g. A and then A again) or one after another (A, B, C... and then A, B, C...)?
    If they're one set after another, FM picks up the list of paratags to include in the bookmarks list from the first file in the book, so if this doesn' contain everything, it might help to import the additional formats into that one. Then clear/remove the exisiting bookmarks and only add back the Titles and Heading1 bookmarks (check that the TOC ones remain in the Don't include list).

  • Editing text in Dreamweaver CS4 on Mac 10.6.2 causes paragraph ends to disapear

    Editing text in Dreamweaver CS4 on Mac 10.6.2 causes paragraph ends to disappear.
    When adding bold in design view (strong) to two words at the start of my paragraph the last line of the paragraph disappears. This is somewhat worrying as it means any editing I do in dreamweaver could do massive amounts of damage to the content.
    We are pasting the original content into the code view so as to strip the formating Dreamweaver then decides to take the last line break in the source code paragraph and then delete it see example below:
    <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Aenean dignissim nisi id risus varius ut scelerisque massa consectetur. Vestibulum non tortor augue, sit amet dictum lacus. Cum sociis natoque penatibus et magnis dis parturient montes, nascetur ridiculus mus. Curabitur ultrices felis et dui tincidunt sit amet tristique est pulvinar. Nulla a lectus quis erat ornare ultricies. Sed ac elementum magna. Nulla aliquet accumsan nulla. In dictum accumsan tortor eget consequat. Suspendisse potenti.
    So when applying Strong with the Bold button in the design view to the first words 'Lorem ipsum' the last part of the paragraph 'lobortis vehicula lacinia interdum odio' will be deleted. Bizare and very dangerous especially for Annual Report content.
    Any experience of similar or solutions would be greatly received.
    PS. I have restarted, repaired permissions, checked dreamweaver is up to date trashed plist's and removed duplicate fonts.

    Mac+Win=Me wrote:
    It could be a problem in the templates.
    In all honesty, I just tried pasting text into the Design section of a page.
    It doesn't even work on my Mac, and it took three tries to get it to actually paste in VIsta.
    I had to go to the code and reformat it after it did paste, but it eventually went.
    I don't work with templates much.
    Well, that actually makes me feel a little better, if it makes sense to feel better to learn that it could be the expensive software and not just us. I guess I will view this as an opportunity to improve me coding speed :-) Thanks for the feedback.

  • Adding new "Paragraph Styles"

    Hi,
    I am trying to modify different text styles in different cells in Numbers 3.5.2 (Yosemite) and I cannot figure out how add a new Paragraph Style to the existing drop-down styles list. Is there a duplicate existing style or add a new style option in this Numbers version? The "+" next to "Paragraph Styles" in the drop-down list does not work in Numbers but works in Pages or Keynote, is this a bug?
    Thanks for the help!

    I found the answer and posting it in case others have the same issue.
    A text inside the cell has to be selected for the "+" sign to be activated, just selecting an empty cell alone does not activate the "+" sign.

  • Less Prompting? Duplicate Region Prompts me, Delete Region Prompts me...

    I understand that some people need to be reminded that they are doing something before they do it, but if I want to delete the region, why can't I hit delete and it vanishes? Instead I get prompted as to if I want to keep it or delete it. Can I set a default so this doesn't keep popping up? When arranging, I know what I want to delete, as I selected it, I will clean the bin when I'm finished with the session.
    Here is the example, I just got finished typing a 25 page paper in MS Word, I want to delete sentences and words that I have written to clean it up, make it flow nicer, does MS Word say "Keep or Delete" on every word or paragraph I try to delete? No. In fact, it has never done that. Neither does nuendo, cubase, sonar, protools, ableton live, reason, energy xt, ardour - so what gives? Its an extra uneeded enter/return key press - and this millesecond counts in a session a client is paying for.
    When I want to duplicate a region using command R - there's the prompt again - i know that it allows for you to specify how many times, but let me set a default. Yes I know I can control click drag to duplicate without the prompt, but lets say you want to duplicate by looking at the rest of your arrangement - should I have to count out how many times this region should occur, or keep control click dragging - or should I just be able to hit command D to my hearts content without prompting until everything lines up for me?
    Again, small things that add up, my frustration comes from recording a vocalist last night with stacks galore, 45plus vocal tracks (the harmony spread ups the track count) duplicating and deleting - was more of a chore and an exercise in mouse movement than usable workflow.

    Regina:
    The buffer in sqlplus is intended to hold the last SQL statement or PL/SQL block issued. It is not really the same as a script, which can be an arbitrarily long sequence of sqlplus commands (like ACCEPT), SQL statements and/or PL/SQL blocks mixed any way that makes sense. Also, a named script is permanent, while the buffer gets overwritten each time.
    You can kind of fool sqlplus into running several commands from the buffer, but only by running it as a script. But, only the last statement executed remains in the buffer at the end.
    I edited the sql buffer (using ed at the sql prompt) to look like:
    ACCEPT v NUMBER PROMPT 'Enter a number: ';
    select &v from dual;Then saved the changes and ran the buffer file (afiedt.buf on my UNIX system) as a script and got.
    ACCEPT v NUMBER PROMPT 'Enter a number: ';
    select &v from dual;
    SQL> @afiedt.buf
    Enter a number: 5
    old   1: select &v from dual
    new   1: select          5 from dual
             5
             5Pretty much what you would expect. But, when I edited the buffer again I got
    SQL>ed
    select &v from dual
    /So, I lost the ACCEPT command.
    The other advantage to using scripts is that users do not need to type the whole set of SQL statments, just
    @script_name (for the lazy) or
    start script_name (for the more energetic).

  • When I want to zoom in or zoom out with the mouse wheel and CONTROL button the letters get larger but remain within the same size paragraph and any pictures remain the same. I want the entire page to zoom.

    I want the entire page to zoom in and out when I use CONTROL + mouse wheel. Now the letters get larger but remain in the same size paragraph and also the pictures stay the same.

    It is indeed scandalous that Apple sells useless scanned music scores. There is a warning when you chose to download music tabs or notes but it doesn't say that the score lines are very small and cannot be zoomed. I spent $30 on two books but cannot really use them on my MBA as you cannot zoom except for the double click which only works page per page and is only a small improvement.
    The only way I can use the score more or less is on my ipad in landscape mode by increasing the font size to the max. The music score then becomes wider and you can read 2-3 lines per page without glasses.
    If you could transfer the file to the pdf  "side" of the library in ibooks the zoom would work..
    What does work is using the accessibility zoom mode option+command+= to zoom and then option+command+\ to smooth the picture but then your whole display desktop etc. are zoomed in.
