Duplicate photos now in Photo from iPhoto

Hi,
I uploaded photos from my Mac to my iPad(3) using Photosync. The album appears nicely under Albums in the Photo app along with the pics in Camera Roll.
I then make my edits in iPhoto (latest relase). So then, in iPhoto, i have the pics with the little 'editted' icon that appears. I have then synced and sent those photos to the regular Photo app under Camera Roll.
However, now I have duplicates in Camera Roll and duplicates showing in the iPhoto app. I want to just delete the old version of the picture I editted. Do I have to go back to Camera Roll now and delete the pic I no longer want? Is this the normal process or am I way off base how to use this app in iOS?
Thank you for any help.

Hi Pamela,
Welcome to the Discussions.
iPhoto Diet (freeware) can remove duplicates among other things.

  • Only some of my photo's are syncing from iPhoto to my iPad, iPhone and Apple TV.

Only some of my photo's are syncing from iPhoto to my iPad, iPhone and Apple TV.
It may be my own fault due to learning Aperture and playing around with the locations of the Master Files.
The thing I don't understand is that when in iPhoto all thumbnails of all photo's are able to be enlarged / edited etc. When a thumbnail is clicked on there is no gray triangle with an exclamation mark indicating that the link to the original photo can't be found. I would have thought this was ok for syncing to take place.
When trying to sync through iTunes to my iPad for example (after some photo's have been synced) a window comes up saying "Some of your photos, including the photo “_MG_3820.jpg”, were not copied to the iPad “Mark Harlen’s iPad” because they cannot be displayed on your iPad".
I thought this may be due to lack of memory space but my Apple TV (which has the same issue but not the same warning window) has over over 100 free GB's so that can't be it.
When I did a test and re imported one photo that wasn't being synced to my other devices, that photo consequently was then synced so maybe it has something to do with the path through iPhoto to the original files.
Is there any way I can re establish these links with out having to create an entire new iPhoto library from the originals (I have a lot of albums and have done a lot of editing etc and don't and want to have to do it all again).
I look forward to you help and advice
    Mark

Thanks for the advice but it didn't seem to work
I've decided to try ditching iPhoto and orgainising, syncing my photo's to all devices from Aperture
I have so far imported over 1200 photo's (relocating and renaming the master files as well) and find that when syncing through iTunes only 209 photo's are listed. The Projects/Albums are there but some indicate that there are 0 photo's in them when I know other wise (at least according to whats happing in Aperture)
I'm starting to suspect it may be a computer problem
    Any thoughts?
    Regards
    Mark
PS: Just after posting this I restarted my computer, went into iTunes and my Apple TV started to sync. It was now syncing 854 photo's not 209 as before.

What has happened? Where is my iPhoto and why are my photos now in Photos? This *****. The whole reason I bought a Mac was the ease of iPhotos. Horrible. Bad move.

iPhotos is still in your Applications folder. The iPhoto Library is still in your /Home/Pictures/ folder.

  • Why would I want to change JPEG quality of photos when exporting them from iPhoto?

Why would I want to change JPEG quality of photos when exporting them from iPhoto?  Changing the quality of the print changes the size of the saved file and thus impacts the speed at which it is moved on the internet.  But other than size of the file, what is the advantage of changing the quality?

I have no idea why you would want to do anything
Some people want lower quality to reduce file size for different reasons
It is an option - if you do pot want to do that do not use that option

    Karen,
I'd recommend reposting in the iPhoto forum, you can find it at:

  • Where are the "receipts" of the photos that I email from iPhoto?  I have no record that I can find of these.

Where are the receipts of the photos that I email from Iphoto.  I can't find a record of those that I have sent.

I am not using it in a "professional manner".  Even I need to know who I sent that particular photo to and when and by the way, who are you to define what Apple meant by the design of its software?  I think you overstep yourself here.  I also think Apple has made every effort to lead people to believe that it serves a dual purpose as a personal as well as business tool.  I don't need sarcasm from you or anyone when I am trying to learn that which is hidden (or absent) in the software.  Being professional does not necessarily mean for a "business", but rather the level of sophistication and usefulness in the product.

  • Is there any way to recover photos you have deleted from iphoto trash?????

Is there any way to recover photos you have deleted from iphoto trash;ie  emptied trash..

Depends on the version of iPhoto - some details would help us help you
If you have iPhoto '11 then the photos go from the iPhoto trash to the system trash and you can recover them there and import backinto iPhoto
Otherwise you you are looking at data recovery software like file salvage http://subrosasoft.com/software/filesalvage or a data recovery service

  • I lost all my photos when I upgraded from Iphoto to Photos

I lost all my photos when I upgrade from Iphoto to photos, can I get back? please help

You need to provide more details about what happened.  But, here is something you can check.
When you run Photo and it converts your library, it doesn't delete the iPhoto library.  Look in your Pictures folder - you should see two libraries:
iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary (this is the original iPhoto library)
Photos Library.photoslibrary (this is the new Photos library)
You should still be able to open the original iPhoto library.  The iPhoto application was not deleted from your computer.  (It was probably removed from your Dock if you had an icon there.)  Look in the Applications folder, find iPhoto, and run it.  It should show your original library with all your original images.
It is always a good idea to back up your photos (and the iPhoto library) before trying these migrations.  Problems do occur...
    Hope this helps.

  • Photos missing when syncing from iPhoto to iPod touch 3G

OK, I'm trying to upload photos from iPhoto to my G3 iPod Touch. They're in a specific album within a folder. There are 84 pictures in the album, but only 32 are uploading. Anyone know why?

Nope, not by a long shot.
Actually, I figured it out... I separated the photos by which uploaded & which didn't... and discovered the photos need to have their extension showing! Whew! It took a lot of work to fix the mistake, but I've got it all sorted out now.

  • Send photos by e-mail from iPhoto.

I have problem to share by e-mail from iPhoto 11. I have fullly functional Mail on my macbook pro with 6th e-mail accounts. When i tryed to send some photos from iPhoto 11 i got message:
Your email did not go through because the server did not reply.
Check your Internet connection. If the connection is working properly, the email server may be down. Try sending your email again later.
Server and connection working properly and account is also OK  (the same as in Mail from Mac OS X)
For me is now one resutls: I must select photos in IPhoto and export to the Desktop and after that send by attach to the Mail from MacOS-X. It works OK. But its horrible for me!  Old version iPhoto 9 directly connect Email application and works OK. Help me.
    Thanks very much Robert

You can send emails from iPhoto to Mail just like you could in the older versions
Iphoto menu -> Preferences -> General and select Mail at the 'EMail Photos Using...' dropdown

  • Photos placed in timeline (from iphoto) have dramatic quality reduction

Basically, I'm looking to make a high quality slide show in iMovie. By high quality I mean I want the pictures to look clear. I scanned most of the photos at 600 dpi or more, so I figured the quality would be fine. And in iPhoto, it DOES look fine.
But when I import a photo into iMovie... it looks horrible. For example, if I take a 9.2 meg jpg from iPhoto and move it to the timeline and choose "get info", iMovie says the clip is only 117 kilobytes. I don't see how that makes any sense....

There are many differences between TVs and computer monitors (..the type with a cathode ray tube..) ..or there were, until flat screen TVs with monitor connections became available.
TVs used to have a lower resolution (far fewer dots, or pixels) than monitors, as TVs were designed to be seen from several feet away, but monitors are for viewing several inches away, and need to show more detail and precision. TVs were based upon 50-year-old standards concerning the number of "lines" of picture which were transmitted, and which were drawn down the screen ..characteristics which were far coarser than the higher resolutions which have been gradually built into every new generation of computer graphics circuitry.
TVs are also intended to show "interlaced" broadcasts; a TV picture is - or always used to be - transmitted as two sets of lines drawn across the screen: the even numbered lines, like 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, etc, followed by the odd ones: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, etc, slotted in between the others. Because of the "persistence" of the picture on old TV sets (..think of the persistence of a radar picture, with the previous scan gradually fading away as the new scan begins..) the first set of lines would still persist on the screen when the second set were "interleaved" between them, giving the appearance of an entire picture ..and the "persistence of vision" of the human eye, or brain, also appears to keep an entire picture on the TV screen, even when only half of it (..one set of in-between lines..) is really there.
[..Same in a cinema: you think that there's a moving picture constantly up there on the screen; nope ..it's a succession of still pictures, and for almost half the time you're watching there's nothing on the screen at all!..]
Computer circuitry is designed to show an entire picture all at once, instead of having it split into two "interleaved" halves. So many computer displays show just one of those sets of interleaved lines, as the "whole picture" (both sets of lines) generally aren't available simultaneously ..thereby giving half the resolution (detail) of what's in the complete picture, and giving effects like the edge of a comb's teeth if there's rapid movement in the picture: look at the "teeth" around the edges of the train's windows here:
(..Thanks to Adam Wilt's page about "Fields & Frames" here..)
With many flat screen TVs now doubling as monitors - and vice versa - the differences between monitors and TVs are disappearing ..and some types of video, or satellite or cable broadcasts, are now presented as "progressive" (..all details present all at once, with the lines all following one another as a series..) instead of "interleaved" (..one half first, and the other half later).

  • Photos dragged to HD from iPhoto become invisible files

I have been experiencing a problem lately where photos dragged from iPhoto to the HD become invisible. The files show up until the window for their location is closed, then they disappear. Cmd I shows that the respective folder has XX amount of space used for zero files. Closer inspection using Cocktail's show invisibles function reveals the photos right where I put them. My iPhoto library resides on an external drive connected to an ethernet server as a share.
I guess this leads me to two questions: First, what could be causing this? Second, how do I make them permanently visible again?
I originally posted this under iPhoto, but another user suggested it was more of a system issue...
Any help would be much appreciated!

Per the suggestion, I opened a few of the files with Photoshop (after making them visible via Cocktail) and they are perfectly intact. I did some further investigating by dragging an mp3 file from my iTunes library which resides on the same shared volume. The mp3 remains visible under the same circumstances that usually cause the image files to turn invisible. After that, I began comparing the info between the two folders which house the two libraries. I think this has led me to the root of the problem... I don't have any ownership privileges of the folder where the iPhoto library resides. Now a new problem... when I try to add myself as owner of the files, it tells me the user name is incorrect, please try again. I even tried using Batchmod to change ownership to no avail. The only thing I haven't tried is to plug the drive directly into my Mac and try changing the privileges—maybe the fact that the drive is connected through the server is blocking me making the change.
    ...any thoughts?

  • HT204655 How to have a unified Photos Library after migrated from iPhoto and Aperture?

The "HT204655: Get started with Photos for OS X" do not help. If you have previously used iPhoto and Aperture, when you "migrate" the iPhoto, then follow the steps to "migrate" the Aperture library, you end up with 5 files in your Pictures folder: Photos Library (from iPhoto), Photos Library 2(from Aperture), iPhoto Library (Not sure if can be deleted or not - of course no), Aperture Library (for some reason blank), Aperture Library 2 (Created by Photos?).
So, looks like a mess and no easy way to make a clean migration.
I've a hope that exists a solution to have a single Photos Library with the merged iPhoto and Aperture contents, like a real migration.
If I export everything (From iPhoto and Aperture) then import in the Photos in a single Library should work, but will lose all the organization, faces, etc...

You could merge libraries with iPhoto Library Manager, but I never tried this for merging Aperture 3 libraries with iPhoto 8.
Are you planning to keep all your photos in iCloud? Then consider to merge them in iCloud, but it will take a long time.
Are you using iCloud Photo Library (Beta) and have enough iCloud storage for the merged library?
Wait, till your current Photos Library has been completely uploaded to iCloud.
Then quit Photos, and launch it again, while holding down the alt/options key. Select the old iPhoto lIbrary.
When the upgrade of the old library has been finished, make this library the System Photos library (in the Photos Preferences > General).
Enable again iCloud Photo Library (Beta) in the Photos > iCloud preferences.
Now Photos will upload the new library to iCloud as well and create a merged library in iCloud. After this merged library synced with your Mac, you will have a merged Photos library.
