Duplicate photos software

Any suggestions as to the best software for identification and removal of duplicate photos on iMac OSX 10.5.8
Cheers
Bernvale

There are two apps, actually one app and one Applescript script, for finding and removing duplicate photos from iPhoto. They are:
Duplicate Annihilator
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates

  • Anyway to get rid of duplicates, photo, software, and documents, without having to buy software?

Subject says it all. Seems to me I read a post some time ago that we can do this without going through the infamous MacKeeper.

Just an overdue "ps". I forgot to mention that there was somewhat of a viral rant on MacKeeper (with which I heartily concur) and that OS X software provided all that was needed to do much of the above work. Of course, I forgot what that was.
However, I did purchase, after reading a bucket of reviews, "Tidyup" that appears to be the first, user-friendly, non-obliterating software that does exactly what you want it to. With my first use, I dumped 4 gigs of duplicates without the color draining experience of losing lifetime photographs (can you say, "Spring Cleaning"?).

What is the best photo duplicate finder software for my new iMac?

    Try this one >  https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/duplicate-cleaner-for-iphoto/id586862299?mt=12
    It's free.
    Compatible with 10.6 or later.

I want to download the "FREE" iPhoto duplicate remover software, but the download process keeps asking me for my payment information. I have tried it several times.. But it says I cannot download this app unless I give my payment information.. So I went back and looked again and again.. and it still says it's "Free"...

These applications will identify and help remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported into another.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
DeCloner - $19.95 - can find duplicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
DupliFinder - $7 - shows which events the photos are in.
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - Free
PhotoDedupo - $4.99 (App Store) -  this app has a "similar" search feature which is like PhotoSweeper's bitmap comparison.  It found all duplicates
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free - was able to recognize the duplicated HDR and normal files from an iPhone shooting in HDR
Some users have reported that PhotoSweeper did the best in finding all of the dups in their library: iphoto has duplicated many photos, how...: Apple Support Communities.
If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but there are only twp apps that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates: PhotoSweeper and Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto.  None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have different file names.
iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates.  IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

  • How to hide duplicate photos that origins from the photo stream and imported photos?

    Hi,
I are using my camera both with an IPad (through SD-card reader) and directly to my iMac.
I want to keep the full photo archive on the iMac.
Now the problem, that I encounter, is that if I use the iPad to look at the photos, those photos will be transfered to the photo-stream.
Then later when I import all my photos from the camera to the i Mac, those photos that I happened to import to the iPad will show up as duplicate in iPhoto.
Of course I only want one copy of a photo regardless if they arrive from the photo-stream or through a direct import to my iMac.
Is there a way to fix this problem or is it simply a bug?
I think it would be rather easy for the iPhoto software to detect duplicates and hide them.

You can use one of these applications to identify and remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported into another.

DeCloner - $19.95 - can find dupicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.

  • How to find and delete duplicate photos in photo app

how to find and delete duplicate photos in photo app

Photos has no built-in tools to screen the library for duplicates. It relies on the warning on import, that should prevent you from importing duplicates.
Once duplicate shave been imported, delete them manually, or use third-party tools.
For example, these new apps claim to work with Photos:
    Power photos:  Fat Cat Software
Duplicate annihilator: Brattoo Propaganda Software - Products

  • Duplicate photos in catalog......

    Hi
I've  been engaged in a project to clean-up my Photoshop Elements catalog for  several months now...   so far, without success.   What spurred me to  do this was getting into a situation where I had (literally) thousands  of duplicate photos in my catalog -- and I had no idea how they got  there....
So, since this problem started, I have
    a) moved to a new PC (not b/c of this problem -- but it did give me a clean slate)
    b)  upgraded from Elements 7 to Elements 9 (I did that b/c I thought if  somehow this was a bug maybe it would be fixed in Elements 9)
    c) completely deleted Elements and all its catalogs so I was starting from a completely clean slate
    d) gone back to loading photos from my camera cards in an attempt to start from scratch
So,  I started by loading photos from just one of my camera cards (about 500  photos).   Everything was looking good -- the photos got loaded into  Elements; I started to put them into albums; everything was going  swimmingly.
Then,  I took some new photos and plugged in my camera.  I have the option set  in "Preferences" to "Copy New Files Only".  However, when Elements  proceeded to do its stuff.....   instead of saying "I found 15 new  photos" it proceeded to reload (as new) everything on the camera card --  i.e. all 500-odd photos.   Now, when I look in the "shot date"  directories, I have duplicates of all photos -- such as, DSC_0054 and  DSC_0054-1; DCS_0055 and DSC_0055-1 etc etc etc...   so now I have 1000  photos in my catalog....   and lots and lots of duplciates.  Which is  exactly the problem I started with :-(
I  thought this had happened originally because I was doing something  wrong...    but I know I did nothing at all wrong here...  I've been  able to track exactly what I did and I just don't think there is any  reason why Elements should have reloaded as new all of the photos it had  already loaded and put in the catalog.
I'm  curious....   has anyone else seen this kind of behavior?  Does anyone  know what causes it?    Honestly, I'm just about ready to give up on  Elements  -- what good is it if it can't even simply detect and identify  duplicate photos from the camera that it has already loaded?  Isn't  that kind of "digital photo 101" stuff???   I described this problem to a  professional photographer friend, and she suggested that I not use  Elements to offload photos from the camera but only to catalog and edit  things once they are on the disk.  Frankly, if that's what is needed to  make this software work that seems kind of ridiculous....
In case this is of interest, I am running Windows XP and my camera is a Nikon D40.
    Any help suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks for your response....   What I would really like is to prevent the problem happening in the first place.   It really seems to me
that Elements is just behaving in a  buggy manner...  it had already offloaded thoses 500 photos -- why did it do that again?
It's interesting.   I've since (as an experiement) added yet more photos to the camera card in question and offloaded them through Elements and this time it did only detect the new photos.   Why does it sometimes work and sometimes not?
I'd  be curious to knwo if others have run into this behavior and if anyone knows of the cause?

  • I am not able to duplicate photos in iphoto. How can I accomplish it.

I am not able to duplicate photos in iphoto. I have tried the two finger click and then went to duplicate... no luck. Went through photo and duplicate... no luck. Used command D... nothing. How can I fix this?

    Can you import new photo's?
If not that means something is wrong with your iPhoto files someplace or possibly your .plist file.
As you know, you can right click "show package contents" of the iPhoto Library and get a copy of your Originals out. I would do that immediately so you have a copy safe out of iPhoto's clutches, stick them on a external drive, along with all your other files just in case.
Then next download and run ALL of the free OnyX initial checks, cleaning and maintenance tasks (except the log files) and reboot at the end (in between tasks reboots can be canceled)
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
What this will do is sort of check things out, then clean out all your caches so they rebuild, repair permissions and other tasks that the computer normally does itself, the machine may act a bit slow until the caches and Spotlight are rebuilt, sort of a nuclear cocktail of fixing everything.
If OnyX gives any warnings then state them so here please, you could have a more serious problem that will need addressing like a Repair of your boot drive or failed SMART status etc.
If OnyX comes up clean, and your still having trouble with iPhoto, you can choose to remove (from Pictures), rename and/or archive the iPhoto Library, reboot and restart iPhoto to create a new iPhoto Library, then in iPhoto, import a copy of your Originals from backup.
You can also delete the  com.apple.iphoto.plist  file from your ~/Library/Preferences folder, reboot and restart iPhoto, reset your preferences again, sometimes that clears issues up.
If your STILL having issues with iPhoto, log into another user and try iPhoto there, if no issues then it's something unexplained in the other user. You may want to just switch users transfering files via the Users/Shared folder.
If your having problems with iPhoto in the other user, the program iPhoto ITSELF, is likely the cause. You can resintall it from the bundled 10.6 install disks, or simply install 10.6 again (does a overwrite of exisiting OS X and bundled iLife programs) and immediatly Software update until clear to 10.6.8. This method also kicks out kext and other OS X installed "hacks" from other third party program installers, you wlll need to run those installers again.
If you upgraded 10.6 over 10.5, then you will need to use Pafacist to extract iPhoto from the 10.5 disks, as the 10.6 white disks doesn't have the free iLife, only the grey disks do.
There are also some tricks to rebuild the iPhoto Library, I forget what they are, but if you ask in the iPhoto forum you will get a answer from several of our regulars who are familiar with the subject better than I am.

  • How to erase duplicate photos

I Changes thé iOS software because it was broken. When i transfered all my photos from my original software, they have Been duplicated 2 to 4 Times! I nos have 47 000 photos in my MacBook Pro! how CAN I erase the duplicate photos?

FWIW I've tested the following apps on a limited library due to the demo restrictions and here are my impressions of each:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported into another library.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
DeCloner - $19.95 - can find duplicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
DupliFinder - $7 - shows which events the photos are in.
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - Free.
PhotoDedupo - $4.99 (App Store) -  this app has a "similar" search feature which is like PhotoSweeper's bitmap comparison.  It found all duplicates.
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free - was able to recognize the duplicated HDR and normal files from an iPhone shooting in HDR and both versions are saved.

  • Quickest way to find duplicate photos on mac?

So I'm trying to clean up my macbook and I have a ton of duplicate photos. It would take me days to go through all my photos manually, so I am wondering if there is a way to find all duplicates? Iphoto really messes up the ability to search for a photo (i have tried many times to search my mac for a photo that is in iphoto, and nothing comes up, why?!). So i have no way of knowing which of my photos in iphoto are already saved in other photo folders i have on my computer.
Is there software that can make this process easier?

Use a third party software such as dupeGuru:

  • My previous programme to remove duplicate photos from iPhoto will not work in Photos. I feel I was tricked into buying a remove duplicate app from Apple which, after purchase, indicated it is only for iPhoto. Does anyone else have this problem. Does

    Remove duplicate photos.

There is no Apple provided duplicate remover application. You must have bought a third-party application. Which application is it?
Photos is very new, and there are only a few apps, that have been updated to handle Photos Libraries are:
For example, these new apps claim to work with Photos:
    Power photos:  Fat Cat Software
Duplicate annihilator: Brattoo Propaganda Software - Products

  • Can Lightroom Find Duplicate Photos?

    Fellow Forum Members,
Does the latest version of Lightroom have the capability to find duplicate photos?  I have a bunch of JPGs and no desire to go through all of them to find duplicates.  If Lightroom can not find duplicated,  can anyone out there please recommend an app that is good at finding duplicate photos or near duplicate photos.  Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I cannot recommend "lightroom-plugins.com".  I purchased the software, tried the registration key and it still ran in demo mode.  After 48 hours, still no response from customer support.  The site appears to be inactive.
I did find a free version:

I'm not sure how well it works, it is processing now.
    Good luck!

  • Duplicate photos from iPhone to iPhoto

It appears duplicate photos are being created when I sync iPhone 6 (most recent software) to iPhoto (on mac, most recent OS and iPhoto).
When I sync from my phone to iphoto, I will get duplicates of every photo. IMG_0001, IMG_0001_2, etc.
    iCloud photo library is off.
    Photo stream is on.
    Sharing is on.
When I look at my phone there is only one photo.
When I look at iPhoto photos there are two of everything.
This only happens on photos that I take with the phone. If someone shares a photo w/ me in a message there is only one photo.
I thought with Sharing and Syncing it would recognize duplicates and not upload them. This appears to be being uploaded from the phone itself.
    Any ideas?

It sounds as if you're looking in iPhoto's "Photos" area.
Try looking in "Events" in iPhoto.  Also look in the shared area, using iPhoto's left bar.  That left bar in the iPhoto display will help you figure out where those photos reside.

This is a known issue that third party software like phoneview can fix.
Second, is there any way to remove the "Photo Library" from the Albums, or is that something we have to keep?
No. Your photos are not actually duplicated, this is just a pointer to the photos in the various albums you have synced.
If it's something we must keep, can we at least change the icon next to it so it's not the flower?
    No.
