  • How can I remove photos from Places on iPhone 3Gs

I would like get rid of the photos on my iPhone that show up when I go to Places in the Photos app on my 3Gs.  I've already deleted the photos from iPhoto and resynced.  They are no longer in iPhoto nor in my iPhone galleries - but they still show up on the phone under various Pins in Places.  How do I get rid of them???
    TIA

    Anybody???
There must be a way to remove the photos under "Places" on my iPhone.

  • HT204022 i have several copies of my photos on my ipad under photos not photo stream    There is no delete button when I tap the duplicate photos.  How do I delete these pleas?

I have 4 and 5 copies of my photos under photos on my ipad.  I do not have a delete button to delete them.  Also, my icloud is upto date but my new photos are no longer streamimg to my photo stream.

Before deleting anything be sure they are actually duplicate photos.  If you create an album on your phone, then add photos to it from your camera roll, the photos in the album are not duplicates; they only contain links to the actual photos in camera roll.  (Albums are like music playlists; they don't contain the actual photo but just a link to it so that you can look at a subset of your photos.)  Thus, if you delete the photo from the camera roll it will be deleted from all albums that may have contained it (just as a song would be deleted from any playlist that contained it if you deleted the song from your music library).
Similarly, photos synced to your iPad from your computer are all contained in the photo library.  Just like albums created on your phone, any albums synced to your phone will only contain links to the actual photos in the photo library.  If you delete the photo from the photo library, it will be deleted from any albums that may contain it as well.  This video may help explain this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60MevRF53ck&feature=channel&list=UL.
All that said, you can delete photos from the camera roll by either opening them individually and tapping the trash can icon, or by opening the camera roll in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, tapping all the photos you want to delete, then tapping the Delete button at the bottom.   To delete photos synced to your iPad from your computer you have to delete them by connecting your iPad to your computer, going to the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings, unchecking the photos you no longer want on your iPad, then syncing.  Photos in photo stream are deleted by opening the photo, then tapping the trash can icon.

  • PSE10 Crashes when searching for duplicate photos

    Hello,
I recently upgraded to PSE10 and imported my catalog from a different machine (which had been running XP).  Unfortunately, I ended up with a bunch of duplicate entries in the catalog, one with the path c:\users\... the other with c:\my documents\...  These paths both point to the same image on the hard drive.
When I try to Search for Duplicate Photos (from Find>By Visual Searches), PSE invariably crashes.  I am running PSE10 under Windows 7 (full system info at the end of this message).
Any idea why this might be happening, and is there a different way I can remove the duplicate entries in the catalog?
    Thanks,
    Chris

If I understand well, what you are calling 'duplicates' are duplicate entries in the catalog, the same media being called either by its original path+filename or shortcut path+filename.
The organizer will try open two different files to compare them, but when trying to open the second 'shortcut', the file will be already blocked (in use). That could explain the failure of the comparison for similarity.
Try creating a new catalog with similar images, for instance jpegs and png copies. Does the visual search work ?
About backup and restore : If my supposition is right, that should work if you try to restore to a new custom location with keeping the file structure : the backup should create real file duplicates on different paths. If it works, finding visual duplicate should work, although this process may take a very long time.

  • Iphone duplicate photos in photo library

I've read some of the postings, but not sure they cover mine. I've synched photos onto my phone, but due to various difficulties, I have some duplicate photos on the iphone. There is no option under photo library to delete a specific photo. If I go to my documents/my pictures/iphone/iphone cache, there are folders marked ithmb. If I could figure out what the photos look like (and I can't open them), I could delete from that cache and then perhpas resync. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'd just like to get rid of some photos that I don't want to keep in my photo library.

    pituspat,
I would recomend making a folder for the pictures you want to sync over on your Windows-based PC.
If you want to remove a photo from the iPhone, remove it from that folder, and on the next sync it will be removed from the iPhone.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

  • Duplicate photos in catalog......

    Hi
I've  been engaged in a project to clean-up my Photoshop Elements catalog for  several months now...   so far, without success.   What spurred me to  do this was getting into a situation where I had (literally) thousands  of duplicate photos in my catalog -- and I had no idea how they got  there....
So, since this problem started, I have
    a) moved to a new PC (not b/c of this problem -- but it did give me a clean slate)
    b)  upgraded from Elements 7 to Elements 9 (I did that b/c I thought if  somehow this was a bug maybe it would be fixed in Elements 9)
    c) completely deleted Elements and all its catalogs so I was starting from a completely clean slate
    d) gone back to loading photos from my camera cards in an attempt to start from scratch
So,  I started by loading photos from just one of my camera cards (about 500  photos).   Everything was looking good -- the photos got loaded into  Elements; I started to put them into albums; everything was going  swimmingly.
Then,  I took some new photos and plugged in my camera.  I have the option set  in "Preferences" to "Copy New Files Only".  However, when Elements  proceeded to do its stuff.....   instead of saying "I found 15 new  photos" it proceeded to reload (as new) everything on the camera card --  i.e. all 500-odd photos.   Now, when I look in the "shot date"  directories, I have duplicates of all photos -- such as, DSC_0054 and  DSC_0054-1; DCS_0055 and DSC_0055-1 etc etc etc...   so now I have 1000  photos in my catalog....   and lots and lots of duplciates.  Which is  exactly the problem I started with :-(
I  thought this had happened originally because I was doing something  wrong...    but I know I did nothing at all wrong here...  I've been  able to track exactly what I did and I just don't think there is any  reason why Elements should have reloaded as new all of the photos it had  already loaded and put in the catalog.
I'm  curious....   has anyone else seen this kind of behavior?  Does anyone  know what causes it?    Honestly, I'm just about ready to give up on  Elements  -- what good is it if it can't even simply detect and identify  duplicate photos from the camera that it has already loaded?  Isn't  that kind of "digital photo 101" stuff???   I described this problem to a  professional photographer friend, and she suggested that I not use  Elements to offload photos from the camera but only to catalog and edit  things once they are on the disk.  Frankly, if that's what is needed to  make this software work that seems kind of ridiculous....
In case this is of interest, I am running Windows XP and my camera is a Nikon D40.
    Any help suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks for your response....   What I would really like is to prevent the problem happening in the first place.   It really seems to me
that Elements is just behaving in a  buggy manner...  it had already offloaded thoses 500 photos -- why did it do that again?
It's interesting.   I've since (as an experiement) added yet more photos to the camera card in question and offloaded them through Elements and this time it did only detect the new photos.   Why does it sometimes work and sometimes not?
I'd  be curious to knwo if others have run into this behavior and if anyone knows of the cause?

  • IPhoto album backups and duplicate photos

    Hello,
After uprading to iPhoto 6, I went through the whole library and put it all into about 15 separate albums. I've only got about 2000 photos, but it was still a lot of work. After I had done this, I started making a calendar, which for some strange reason make iPhoto practically refuse to run, so I had to re-install. (ther people on discussions have had the same problem, and the common factor seems to be trying to make a calendar).
After the re-install, I re-imported all my photos back into iPhoto. I'm not going to try and make a calendar straight away, as before I do, I really want to back up my Albums.
Does a straight complete backup of the iPhoto library folder back this up for me? If not, can anyone tell me how this can be achieved?
Secondly, after re-importing all my photos, the photos that I had previously edited now are present in two forms; the original and the edited one. Unfortunately it is too late to re-import my library having deleted the folder "Originals". I didn't think of it at the time!
Does anyone know of a way to delete duplicate photos, or how I could at least get them all side by side, as a lot are spaced out and therefore it can be hard to compare and see if they are duplicated.
Any ideas would be hugely appreciated, as this is really stopping me using iPhoto that much at the moment.
Many many thanks for any help, it will be extremely gratefully received!!
    Regards,
    Adam Dalton

    Hi Adam,
All you need to do is backup the entire iPhoto Library folder. This will preserve everything. If for some reason you need to use this backup then you would place it in the Pictures folder and launch iPhoto. iPhoto will launch and open the library. there is no need to import all your photos again.
If you have an iPhoto Library folder already in the Pictures folder, but you want to replace it or it is damaged, then drag that folder to the desktop and drag the backup into the Pictures folder, then launch iPhoto.
Bottom line...back up the iPhoto Library folder in the Pictures folder. do it often.
As far as the duplicates you have now, do you have your view set to film rolls? I would think since the film roll name is the same they would be next to each other. How about putting the name of the roll in the search field? You should get the contents of both modified and Originals from the rolls. You can then delete what you don't want.
    Backing up your iPhoto Library
    1. Burn the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder to a CD or DVD
This method will give you a burned iPhoto Library folder that can be copied back to your computer to replace a damaged library. You can also use this method to backup an old library when you want to create a new Library to use as your current library.
insert a blank CD into your internal or external CD-RW drive and copy the iPhoto library to the CD icon on your desktop. When you drag the CD icon to the Trash/Eject button in the Dock, you are given the option to burn the CD. Click Burn and the CD is created. To burn a DVD backup of your digital images, use a DVD and a SuperDrive-equipped Mac
The easiest way to burn an iPhoto Library folder in the Finder that is larger than 4.7 gig to fit on one DVD is to burn sections of the folder.
Drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
Double click the folder to open it.
Drag each Year folder to the desktop.
You should be left with the iPhoto Library folder containing all the data files, and the Year folders.
Combine whatever year folders that amount closest to a DVD burn size on one DVD. Make sure that you have burned all the Year folders, then the iPhoto Library folder with all the data files.
If you ever need to use this backup, insert the DVDs into your computer and copy the folders to the desktop. Put all the Year folders back into the iPhoto Library folder. Then put the iPhoto Library folder back into the Pictures folder.
    2. Copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library to an external drive formated for a Mac. Do not use this as your only back up as the external can also go bad.
    3. Copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library to your iPod in disk mode
4.Creating your own CDs and DVDs for viewing in iPhoto
This method is a great way to back up Albums of older photos or even your entire library if it is small enough to fit on a DVD. This method will give you a library that will mount within iPhoto in the source column to be viewed. To import any images from this library they need to be dragged into your library in the source column.
If you just want to backup the images in your library:
    1) Within iPhoto select the images, albums or rolls you want to backup. Go to Share>Export and export them to a newly created folder on the desktop. Follow the directions in the next link.

  • Duplicate photos from root Picture folder

As a result of upgrading versions of LR from 1.0 to now, and not knowing how to do that properly, I've got nested Lightroom and Pictures sub folders in my root Pictures on my Mac system.  Is there a way to illiminate duplicate photos, without breaking the LR catalog?  There are no duplicates in my catalog.

I have LR pointing, on my iMac, to the "Pictures" folder.  Under that, I have sub folders called "Lightroom->Pictures", etc.  I have many more pictures and folders under root->Pictures, than I have in my LR catalog.  I think upgrading since 1.0 has duplicated on import and created new folders.  I want to clean this up now and delete duplicate raw images on disk.  I can't do it manually.  Too onerous. Hope that makes this simple situation clearer.
Update: Turns out i only have 2k extra images than what appears in the catalog, so maybe not as bad as I thought.  Would still like to reorganize the folders so that they make more sense, like illiminating the lightroom->pictures sub-folders.
Update: Found the easiest way to reorganize is to global highlight photos in a sub folder and drag to the higher level folder.  LR does all the work and updates the catalog.  Solved.

  • Why doesn't duplicate photo finder work in Prem El 12?

Premier Elements 12, new HP PC, Win 8.1, lots of storage/memory.    ~14K pictures and I'd like to start to trim out the duplicates.  While in Premier Elements 10 the Organizer's Duplicate photo feature under Find seemed to work pretty well, the one in PremEl 12 does not work; brings up stacks of photos that are not even similar, much less duplicates.   What gives?

    Dave0518
Photoshop Elements 12 (photo editor) and Premiere Elements 12 (video editor) are standalone program, each with the Elements Organizer 12. When these programs are on the same computer, they share the same Elements Organizer catalog. All that being said, since your issue is with Elements Organizer and it identification "Duplicate Photos"  not videos,
I would suggest that you might repost your thread in the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum for a boarder perspective on your situation.from people such as Barbara Brundage, MichelBParis, et al.
The following is an example of what I mean about the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum and this type of question.

  • Finding duplicate photos to delete

I want to delete duplicate photos in iphoto. I have too many to just delete individual ones, so want to know if there is a way to get the Mac to search the hard drive to find libraries with the same file reference. The problem is that I have created multiple folder names at different times for my collection of photos. I want to be sure that i'm not deleting the primary photo and just keeping a thumbnail or similar.

    1. Under no circumstances search the hard drive or use the Finder to delete images in an iPhoto Library. If you do you will trash the Library.
    2. For dealing with duplicates in iPhoto check out Duplicate Annihilator
There is no way to check for duplicates across libraries - i.e files that are in Library A and Library B. You could try use the paid version ($20) of iPhoto Library Manager to merge the libraries and set it to not add duplicates

  • Where o where does my duplicate photo go?

Hi: my problem is finding the duplicate photo I make. Say I want to edit a photo but also keep the original as a different version. I create a duplicate first under "Duplicate Photo" and I expect it to show up right beside the original in the iPhoto thumbnail window, but it isn't there. (And I vaguely remember that this is what used to happen in earlier versions of iPhoto.) Nor does it seem to take on today's creation date and end up at the most recent end of my library. I can find it by searching "copy", but that doesn't tell me where it is? How/where can I find it?

    mistermish:
If you have the sorting set to be by file name the duplicate will be right next to the original as the new file name will be "File name_2.jpg". In fact, when in the main library with rolls being shown, the only sort that doesn't keep the two files together is Keyword (if they don't have a keyword assigned) and Manual.
All other ways the duplicate ends up right next to the original.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • No photos under iPhoto Library in finder

When I want to upload a picture there are no photos under the iPhoto Library in my Pictures place. In other words, where there was once an arrow to expand iPhoto to show all the photos, there is just the one folder called iPhoto Library. The effect is that if I click on that to upload it will upload my entire library. Where did the pictures go and how can I get them back in the library? Thanks.

Since iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder is now a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Accessing the Library via the Finder has never been supported on any version of iPhoto.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
All of the above are a:faster and b: safer than rooting around in the folders of the Library.

  • First day with Icloud photo stream; so many duplicate photos?

Noob here! Just got my Ipad, Iphone and Mac on Icloud. I had to transfer many pics from windows (after much frustration trying to get my icloud working in windows I just copied them to a memory stick) and in the process have many duplicate photos in photo stream and probably a whole lot of other places. Is there any way I can scan for duplicates?
    Thanks for reading this

You can use one of these applications to identify and remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free
    Duplicate Annihilator
iPhoto Applescript to Remove Duplicates - free
I agree with Larry on  iPhoto Library Manager.

  • Version set of duplicate photos mac pse10

Just imported the first batch of pictures into my Mac PSE10 organizer and noticed it created a version set with one duplicate photo in a stack.  This is just certain photos it has done this with. Anyway to turn this feature off.  After importing, it ask if I would like to go ahead a visual index the imported photos which i selected ok.
Also upon importing I noticed that it was performing red eye reduction.  It seemed to slow down the whole importation process.
I guess I have some preferences adjusting to do here?  Thanks in advance

turned off automatically fix red eye and automatically suggest photo stacks.
Now it is importing without a version set which probably was an auto red eye edit.  After reviewing the photos, in my opinion, the auto red eye edit does not work very well.  Probably better to correct manually rather than have randon version sets upon import.  Not worth the trade off in the organizer.
Thanks again for your responses 99jon
