"Duplicate Serial Number" on 10.6.3...

Greetings to all.
I've about had it with 10.6 Server. Never in my life has a server OS given me as much grief as this particular package has.
I recently installed SLS onto a brand new 2009 Mac Pro. Everything went smoothly, except for the fact that- no matter what I initially tried during the Server setup assistant (first boot), it claimed my serial number was in use- which is simply impossible. Fine, whatever, google the issue, find out serialnumberd is borked on 10.6, disconnect the second ethernet NIC and proceed with the setup.
Update to 10.6.3, re-enable the second ethernet port- boom. "Duplicate serial number".
No matter what I do, no matter what I try, 10.6.3 Server will *NOT* accept my serial number if the second ethernet card in the same machine is enabled. Both are on the same subnet, the primary adapter has an IP of 10.0.1.254 and the secondary adapter has an IP of 10.0.1.253.
If I disable the second NIC, then it accepts the serial number just fine.
I'm not sure what to do. Apple claims this has been fixed numerous times, and clearly it has not. I've gone so far as to completely reformat the machine, and the end results are always the same. After I upgrade to 10.6.3, serialnumberd insists on "seeing itself" on the network from the same machine, and refusing my serial.
Frankly, this issue is totally unacceptable and shouldn't even exist in the first place.
Is there a quick fix for this? Disconnecting the second adapter is not a solution; as this machine needs two IP's on the same subnet for various internal reasons.

Well, I suspect no one is going to like this solution, especially if you're like me and like to keep your severs patched. As I had 4 Xserves that I couldn't properly use, I decided to give something a try. Apple first claimed to 'resolve' the duplicate serial number problem with 10.6.1. Well, I went from 10.6 to 10.6.3 using the combined update, and it wasn't working. So, I did a clean install of 10.6 server, with all but one of my 4 nics plugged in. I registered the serial number, rebooted and then manually installed the 10.6.1 server patch from Apple. I then plugged in and activated my other 3 nics. No duplicate serial number problem. Hmm. I left if for a hour or so and the logs are fine. Hmm again. Okay, maybe it worked for 10.6.1 then it got broken in the 10.6.2 or 10.6.3 update. So I ran the software update and updated right to 10.6.3 along with all the other patches and downloads. Rebooted and everything is still fine. Not the BEST answer, but it appears to work. I have all 4 NICs on the same subnet and no duplicate serial number issue yet. It's been about half an hour and still no problems. Like I said, not great - especially if you have a full production server running 10.6.3 - the only way I was able to get this to work was to do a clean install, install ONLY the 10.6.1 (79MB) patch manually from Apple, then ran Software update to get things to 10.6.3.
I'm hopeful Apple will properly fix this ASAP, but until then, my workaround seems okay.

Ok, I just purchased my mac mini server with snow leopard yesterday from the apple store in sydney, australia. I have been trying to get this thing going all night and i am now finally at wits end. It's 7am here and so i'm about to go to bed and am hoping that by the time i return, someone can help me put the hair back in my head!
In a nutshell: I turned the server on last night about 10 o'clock or later. Initially when I set it up, it was assigned a dhcp ip address. I went through the install and got all the basics the way i wanted. I entered the serial number and my name (originally i left organisation black, since it's in a home environment - I later put my nickname in there in case that was the issue... i shall continue)...
Everything seemed to go well. I moved the server to it's new home (away from a keyboard and monitor. I logged into my dhcp server and assigned it a static ip for the airport mac and the ethernet mac address, and started the mac mini server up.
I logged in via the airport and I was surprised, i was able to log into it via screen sharing with no problems. but i could not see the server preferences window (it was a light gray). I stuffed around for hours to no luck.
I finally tried to log in via ethernet and i got one step further. I got an error saying my serial was invalid or expired. the server had removed the last 4 characters and replaced them with (password) dots. I corrected it and tried it, i got nowhere.
I went back in and I just kept getting an expired serial warning.
Frustrated, I pulled the server back to the desktop and plugged a monitor and keyboard in and NOW I am seeing a new error. Now I see that I have an "Invalid serial number: duplicate serial number"
I can assure you it isn't!!!! I opened the box myself, sealed direct from apple. The serial has not been entered ANYWHERE else what-so-ever.
I reenter the serial and it appears to work sometimes for a moment or two, but then the error is back (I usually have to navigate away from the page and come back to see that it's in error again - and yes, I AM hitting the save button.
At some point I have entered an organisation, i've tried it in and out, it makes no difference.
can anyone lead me down the correct garden path?
I have no problem calling apple support and will do it after i get some sleep, but i am hoping i have just made a newbie error that is easily fixed

Invalid Serial Number - Duplicate Serial Number

Recently, our Intel Xserve has been reporting that the serial number is invalid (duplicate serial number). Needless to say, this is causing a problem. I have verified the correct serial number and am certain there are no duplicates. We have only two Xserves in our data center and they both have unique serial numbers. Furthermore, this problem is intermittent. Sometimes the server reports "Unlimited-client license", while other times it's listed as invalid.
Any ideas?

I encountered this bug as well. Not sure this is the appropriate place to put suggestions, but the erroneous invalid serial bug switched all my domain.com settings to domain.local, and I received no alert that this was due to a serial number issue, bug or not.
It took a full day of troubleshooting to figure out this was a serial number issue, figure out why the error was happening, and then track down all the settings that had been changed. Not a very pleasant experience.

SYS-3-P3_ERROR: 1/SFP/GBICs on ports 9/8 and 9/6 have duplicate serial numb

It indicates that the GBIC might be faulty or a non-Cisco GBIC is being used.
You can try new GBICs to connect to ports 9/8 and 9/6 to see if they work.
Also you can test the failing GBICs using spare gig modules or spare switches.

Serial Number is unique

Hi SAP gurus,
I have a requirement that,
Ex: There is a PO for a item A and B for 100 numbers(each).Serial number profile is maintained for Item A&B.
PO is released and received Item A & B and doing the MIGO, then Serial numbers are given as A001 to A100 for Item A.
In the same screen, Item B also acceptiong A001 and A100 as serial numbers.But as per our physical system, it should not allow the same serial number for 2 items.Can anybody through some lights and give your inputs to control the allowing the duplicate serial number.

As you have mentioned in the subject itself that serial numbers are unique. Yes it is so within the same plant and you cannot have the same serial number range for different material within the same plant.

Same Meter Serial Number for 2 devices

Hi Experts,
For Gas Business, there is scenario that two different meters can have the same meter serial number and be at different locations.
Therefore we need SAP to be able to handle the same meter serial number but treat them separately under two different MPRN/installations.
Is there any way in SAP we can have meters with the same ID?
I know if they are of different device categories this is possible but they are all of the same device category.
Please advise how this is possible? And also how the incoming and outgoing meter reads will be handled?

As the previous poster already pointed out, the combination of material and serial number has to be unique within SAP.
I would actually question the data quality of the existing system, if there's a duplicate serial number for the same material, because it defies the purpose of a serial number.

Os x server serial number

i want to re-enter the os x server serial number without reinstalling the server. can this be done?
i want to do this because although the serial number is correct, the site license information below it is wrong (viewed in server admin).
when i highlight that information and press delete on the keyboard the information disappears but once i hit the save button the site license information appears again.
i need to remove the site license information as i believe it's giving me serial number problems. i don't have a site license so those fields should be blank. randomly the server kills all services and in server admin i've seen "invalid serial number" and also "duplicate serial number".

It is also worth asking the question, "…is anyone, anywhere also using this license key?" With the release of Mac OS X 10.4.7, OS X Server began checking to see if its license was 'in use' on any other platform. Again, such an instance will produce the result you see, and the fact that someone else's site information appears suggest that you have installed a duplicate key, intentionally or in error.
Check to see that your key is accurately entered to eliminate this possibility, or contact Apple through your enterprise representative or through (800) APL CARE to determine why this sort of error occurs.

How can I enter my serial number to an already installed trial version of photoshop cc?

hi guys, I'm NEW to mac, I'm putting my old serial number from my previous version of photoshop to see if it works on this trial version I have for the iMac. also a few other questions...
WHY is it so hard to just export a psd (photoshop file) as a jpeg? pretty simple on pc, it just doesn't seem to work on this mac version, unless I open the saved jpeg in "preview" duplicate it then save that as a jpeg. then it will work. do I have the settings funky on that or something? it seems like it should be easier.
next question, how do I SLOW DOWN the scroll wheel on the mouse JUST for photoshop? if I slow it down in system preferences it's fine for photoshop, but sucks for the rest of the stuff I do on the mac.

If your version is current you can contact Adobe, give up your old license and get a platform transfer. Apparently free, just not automatic. Not available for older versions; status of CS6 uncertain.
I don't know why your Photoshop JPEGs would be unopenable unless it's a naming thing. Make sure you don't take the .jpg off the name or put anything AFTER, the Mac is very unforgiving of that.
But, while saving as JPEG saves a high quality file for pro use, it isn't best for putting on the web as it's too big. Use Save For Web instead, also gives more control and previews showing the final image quality. But be sure to reduce image size FIRST.

How Do You Get BO/Web-I To Not Show Duplicate Serial Numbers...

(Running Business Objects Release 2 (Web-I), No other reporting modules)
I have a "test" report for our product that we produce. Currently the report pulls in all tests in a given period. I want it to only pull in the "first test of the product", so I can measure what is called First Pass Yield" To do this I only want the first test of the product to show up.
Below is an example of the report. I have made the text "bold" for the rows which I do not want shown in the report (please note that I do not want the information deleted from the database, just not shown in this report)
Information about the report that you need to know to help:
1. The product is serialized.
2. Sometimes our product is tested several times in a given month if there were problems with it or it was upgraded during that month.
So, when I run a report for the month it shows the serial number in the first column, the test date and time in the second column and the test results in the third column. So the report will look something like this:

WEBI treats each column as single entity hence we canu2019t perform operation on particular value in column; also we canu2019t refer all values in record at a time.
I Tried applying filter at Universe level without modifying DB but I couldnu2019t find suitable functions like RunningCount in WEBI.
In WEBI you can use =RunningCount([Test_Date];([Board_SN])) using this we can count the number of tests performed for each product

But the Problem is either we can display whole duplicate records or we can suppress all duplicate records based on the Board SN. But canu2019t display only first record. Because the variable I created is at report level I canu2019t use it query panel query filter.
You can try following solution if it is feasible for you to modify DB a litte Bit as this modification in DB is also useful to track no. of test performed for each product.
1) Add column in DB as Tests_performed and add Serial No. as 1,2,3 for each product tested for each test.
2) Refresh the Universe structure. (View -> Refresh Structure )
3) Modify the universe by creating new object ( Test_performed) based on that column.
4) Export it to repository
5) Open WEBI use that object in query filter and use condition as Test_performed <2
6) You will get the data you want.

I would like to generate a custom report which print out all the microsoft product in our network, but I found that some microsoft product (office 2007, office 2010) can't not display their serial number in the report. Can Zenwork inventory scan get the Serial Number information??

Is there anything I can do if I don't have a serial number FCStudio 2?

I kind of got burned by a shady dude when I bought his copy of FCS 2, he didn't give me the serial number and he move to frickin California. I have tried to contact him countless times but I think he is just content to have my money and leave me in the lurch. This is a legal version but just know serial number. I feel so dumb for not checking it first and taking him at face value. I don't know what to do. I want to be totally legal and good but I can't swing $1300+ to buy this again. I already dumped five hundred into a pile of useless books and dvds. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In reading your post, I'm assuming the pile of useless books and dvds you're referring to are the various manuals and dvds that comprise the entire FCS2 bundle. One little booklet of only about a dozen pages, titled +Installing Your Software+, should have been included with the set. On the front of it would be a couple of duplicate sticky labels containing the serial number you need.
If that booklet isn't there, or, if it is but the labels have been removed, you might still be okay. It's possible the original owner pasted one or both of the serial # labels somewhere inside one or two different manuals. Check it out & I wish you luck.

I´am using serial numbers for certain materials with Stock check, and in my serial number profile the procedure MMSL (maintain goods receipt and issue doc.) is set the serusage 03 (obligatory).
I need this configuration, so I can control stock for which serial number, and this serial number can´t be set automatically, it was to be write down by the users.
The problem I have is that when I´am doing a material movement, for example, mvt 501 in MB1C or in MI04 to register the inventory count, the series number is obligatory has I want, but the system gives the user to "create automatically serial numbers", and when the user do that is creating new serial numbers sequential by the number range I gave. What I Want to know is:
Is there any way to disable this option of "create serial numbers automatically???

You can use PRE-RECORD trigger at block level and if you write
:TXT_SL:=:system.trigger_record;you will get serial no. After deleting or adding it will not re-organize your serial no un till you navigate at other record. If you navigate through out the record, it will
re-organized.
If you want it dynamically, you need to do a loop after any interaction in records.

Error: "You have entered an invalid serial number..." when you try to launch Acrobat 8 Standard on a Dell computer
Issue
When you try to launch Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard on a Dell computer, the program returns the error message, "You have entered an invalid serial number. Please re-install Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard and enter a valid serial number when asked."
Solution
Check the alm_config_files folder for a duplicate AdobeConfig.xml file.
Navigate to the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 8.0\Acrobat\alm_config_files
The following two files should appear in this folder:
AdobeConfig.xml
AdobeConfig.xml.aiwbf
Delete the AdobeConfig.xml file.
Rename the AdobeConfig.xml.aiwbf to AdobeConfig.xml by deleting the "aiwbf" suffix.
Launch Acrobat 8 Standard.
Additional Information
On some Dell computers, a duplicate AdobeConfig.xml file is created when Acrobat 8 Standard is installed. The AdobeConfig.xml file without the "aiwbf" suffix is written for a volume-license version. The correct AdobeConfig.xml file is given the suffix. When a retail version of Acrobat tries to read the volume-license AdobeConfig.xml file, Acrobat returns the error.

Thanks for your response to my question, I see your point and will do that, however, I have another folder that was created before I had a Mac, which has all sorts of lovely titles and labels and some of those pictures I brought over to my ibook when I first started. So there are some duplicates in my iphoto library that I already have backed up in that other folder. I guess I shouldn't really obsess about those. I guess I am just nervous about deleting all my prior iphoto library, but I should have faith that it will all be there in my pictures library. Just trying to clean up the virtual mess.
I'll hold my breath and take the plunge.
