Duplicate Songs on iPod

What I do is highlight all the songs in my library and drag them all to my iPod. Before 7 it would update only the songs that were NOT on the iPod and ignore the ones that were. Well with 7.1 there are about 900 songs (out of 4,000) that with will copy over EVEN THOUGH they are on the iPod. The other 3,000 it ignores.
Any thoughts?

[I'm thinking that I may have to just delete all duplicate songs in library
If you want. But some songs are different versions (Nirvana - Unplugged and Nevermind)
I simply select View -> Show duplicates. Then I uncheck one of them.
Open iTunes prefs -> iPod and select Update only checked songs.
This way I still have the entire album even if one the songs is off a different album.
b]I don't think I can just show all duplicate songs like I can in iTunes.
Yes, that is what I wrote.

  • ITunes 8.1 no longer gives option to skip adding duplicate songs to iPod

When I begin to add songs to my iPod or a playlist, I've noticed that iTunes 8.1 no longer gives me the option (through a small pop-up window) to skip transferring any songs that already exist on that iPod or playlist.
This was a great feature: I could drag a whole set of songs and rely on iTunes to weed out any songs from the transfer that would cause duplicates on my iPod or a new playlist.
The option said something like you are about to add duplicates and allowed me to select "Skip" or "Add".
I can't find this option in Preferences. Has anyone been able to re-enable this?

I have this same problem. Did you find the solution? I sat here and played on iTunes for about 3 hours. I even tried uninstalling and installing it. Nothing works for me.

  • Duplicate Songs On iPod When Adding New Playlist?

    Hi All-
I'm experiencing a new problem that is driving me crazy. It seems to have started after the last iPod updater but that could just be coincendence. Now, whenever I copy a playlist from iTunes to my video iPod, it will copy most of the song files as well (not all of them but a good portion) - making many duplicate song entries on my iPod that I then have to go in and delete?
    Any ideas?

  • How to delete duplicate songs in ipod "recently added" folder

    Hi,
For some reason I have multiple duplicate entries of the same songs in my iPod. How do i clean these up? iTunes will not let me delete these (in the Edit menu the "Delete" option is grayed out).
    TIA!

look under the edit or file menu for "show dupe" that should show you what you have more than one of and delete it.

that is odd! that should not be happening.
Are you syncing your songs right off of itunes itself? because it should be syncing over to the ipod however it is listed in itunes.

  • Ipod nano has duplicate songs but itunes does not

I have been routinely deleting the duplicate songs from the music folder in itunes however, when I have synchronized my ipod nano second generation with itunes I am seeing many duplicate song titles on the ipod song list. Would it help if I deleted the songs from the ipod and downloaded them again from itunes? The only other reason for this is that when I am asked to delete certain songs I have chosen to send them to a recycle bin somewhere

A spelling or punctuation mistake, or sometimes a trailing space usually causes this after the artists and/or song name, which fools the iPod into thinking that there are two different artists or songs. The trailing space is the hardest to spot.

Best way to cure this is to go into iTunes, highlight that artist and/or songs, right click on them and select "get info".

This brings up the multiple song info window. In the artist or song box retype the name, as you would like it, and then click ok. Do this even if no mistakes are immediately visible.

Re sync this new artist/song info to your iPod.

  • How do i remove duplicate songs on my ipod and in my library

how do i remove duplicate songs on my ipod and in my library

Apple's official advice on duplicates is here: Find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership, or that sometimes the same file can be represented by multiple entries in the library and that deleting one and recycling the file will break the other.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.
Fix the library, then syncing should fix the device.

  • Duplicate song listings on ipod classic

I can't figure this out. I have duplicate song listings (at least a doz.) on my ipod. Once I connect to iTunes on my computer and look at my music in the ipod section, there are no duplicates (and none in my library either). Also, when going thru the artists section on my ipod, there can be 3 different songs by the same artist and 3 separte listings of the astist - meaning to see all 3 songs by the same artist I have to click on the same artist name 3 different times, then another click or 2 to actually get to the individual song. What is that about?? I can't find anything that addresses this type of problem in my mauaul.... Anyone else have this going on? It just annoys me.

If you see the "artist" field is left blank, then there is a discrepancy with that name.
So to correct this, in the artist or song box retype the name, as you would like it, and then click ok. You should do this even if no mistakes are immediately visible.
Re sync this new artist/song info to your iPod.
If the above is not the issue, try this also. Highlight all the songs for that artist, right click on them and select "apply sort field/same artist".
    See if that works.

  • I tunes is putting 2/duplicate songs on to my Ipod touch

Why is I tunes is duplicating songs when synching on to my I pod touch?

    Hey...
Just got help from Apple Care with this... It is a gliche with the software update.
    1.  Click on your iPod device in iTunes
    2.  From the iPod summary page, click the tab Music.
    3.  Uncheck Sync Music and hit apply at the bottom right corner
    4.  Once the iPod applies the change, go back and re-click Sync Music and apply.
Your iPod will manually resync all your music and elimate the duplicates on the iPod.
    Hope this helps!

  • IPod and iTunes - Duplicate song file problem

I have many songs on my iPod that are the same. Is there an easy way to do a search and delete of all duplicate songs in one easy step, either thru the iPod itself, or iTunes?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Keith in MI

You can delete songs through the iPod on the iPod.
Are these songs in your iTunes library as well? You can go to edit-->show duplicates and then delete one of each copy.
There is no automatic way of doing this on Windows.

  • Why does the iPod duplicate songs when updating my playlists?

Why does the iPod duplicate songs when updating my playlists? Also, you cannot use the "show duplicate songs" feature on the iPod - I suppose that is because it is not supposed to duplicate songs on the iPod. But, if that is the case - why does it do it?

Try resetting your iPod, press and hold the power and the home buttons together approximately 15 seconds until the Apple logo appears. If that does not work try going into Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. If that does not work try connecting to you iTunes library via the cable and un-sync the library from your iPod then sync the library.  For the next 2 options backup your iPod first, then do a Restore iPod from backup, if that doesn't work... As a last resort Restore your iPod as New. I too had the red circle and square after updating to 7.0.4 the last resort fixed mine, others have reported doing all the above, all have had reports of fixing the problem and not fixing it. Give it a try, hopefully one of these works, Good luck.

  • My ipod has duplicate songs on it, but my iTunes does not.  How do I remove the duplicates from my ipod?

After the last couple updates to my ipod it has created duplicates of songs to it.  My iTunes does not contain any duplicates, but my ipod does.  Is there any way I can remove the duplicate songs from my ipod?

If the duplicate copies all have the same date then you could do show duplicates, then sort by date added, and delete those with the new date.
