Duplicate Topic Output?
Greetings
On a PC importing Frame 10 into RoboHelp 9 as part of the TCS, I am getting duplicate topic hits on search returns. This is the most plain vanilla project you can imagine. Started with a clean import. Output WebHelp, opened the output and noticed I had not selected lower case file names. So I reran the output with that selected.
I ran a search for a relatively rare text string, and noticed that there were duplicate topics returned, with different breadcrumbs. But seeing that half of the output had mixed case file names and the other half lower case, I deleted the WebHelp folder in !SSL and regenerated the output. Same result, duplicate topics, one mixed case and one lower case.
The only weird thing I can notice is the breadcrumbs. The mixed case topics all lead back to a custom home page that I built that is essentially a welcome screen with linked TOC to the chapter files. The lower case files lead back through the directory structure.
I ran a search for that term in the WebHelp directory, the results appear in the attached file. The mixed case files lead back to the project root directory (Admin), the lower case to a mutant version of the chapter name.
Any thoughts? I hate to start this over again, deadlines are looming and this two hour project has sapped my whole day.
Thanks in advance.
Karl
Hi,
Are you seeing these duplicate toipcs in the output directory only or are they also present in the project itself? If they are only in the output, you can just generate the output again. Backup the current output if you like.

Hello,
I recently took over a project that's using RoboHelp X5, and
I'm having trouble with duplicate topics listed in the ALI file.
For example, the topic named "Add Product" has the following 2
records in the ALI file:
Add_Product=Product/Add_Product.htm
Add_Product1=Product/Add_Product.htm
This duplication has occured for most (but not all) of the
topics. Does anyone know why this is happening or how I can fix it?
Is it okay to delete the duplicates from the ALI file or will that
cause problems?
Thank you!quote:

When I generate my PDF using the "Printed Documentation"
layout, everywhere I have a book icon in my TOC I get a duplicate
topic in the chapter layout. How do I prevent these
duplicates?Let's go through an example.
Your project has Topics 1, 2 and 3.
Your build does not use any conditional build tags so in printed documentation if your layout includes all three topics, all three will be there. If you include a topic many times, it will be there for each inclusion. Take one out, only that one goes.
You say the information that was in the topic has gone which sounds like the topic is there but blank. Do you mean the topic has gone? Do you mean there is no instance of that topic, not one?
Some screen shots might help. Use the camera icon about, not the Attach Files link below.

I have a Project where topics are duplicated throughout the
entire project. Periodically these pieces of documentation are
updated. How can I update one topic so the updates will copy down
to the remaining duplicate topics? Currently I have to go into each
topic and make the applicable changes.This is a bit of a tangent, but note that you don't have to
create separate topics with duplicate information. For example,
let's assume that your Help system contains two books based on the
two modules available in your software: Module A and Module B. Your
books might be set up like this:
BOOK A:
* About Module A
* Feature A-1
* Feature A-2
BOOK B:
* About Module B
* Feature B-1
* Feature B-2
If you want to add the "About Module A" topic to Book B,
simply open the TOC tab, click Book B, click the new page icon,
enter a TOC title for the new page, and select the "About Module A"
topic from your topic list. So you could end up with this layout
for Book B:
* About Module B
* Feature B-1
* Feature B-2
* About Module A
Or you could end up with this:
* About Module B
* Feature B-1
* Feature B-2
* Additional Information (which has a different TOC title but
still loads the "About Module A" topic) -

The RoboHelp Help file may have actually helped – the

to remove all (<<) and then add all (>>). That cleaned
up the duplicates. -
Duplicate Topic, Then Rename causes RH7 Crash ?
I am able to duplicate a topic and save the default. The file name is taken from the original Topic Title and preceeded with 'Copy_of'_". I can right click and select Rename and change the name of the file and save. I can change the 'Topic Title' in the new file by editing in 'Properties'. However, when I select 'Save', RoboHelp crashes ("RoboHelp 7 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the pgm.") . This crash happens in a couple of different sequences involving the duplication of topics. Note that the new file exists, but the crash seems to involve only the renaming of the Topic Title not the filename. I've deleted the .xpj and .cpd and restarted.
Hi there
An observation from the sidelines here. I can't help but to notice that in the workflow you listed said you duplicate, then you later elect to rename?
I'm curious as to why you would follow that procedure?
Please bear with me. I do the duplicate hokey pokey all the time and I've never seen a crash occur from duplication. But my process varies a bit from yours. It seems that the first thing that happens when you duplicate a topic is that RoboHelp presents you with a dialog allowing you to choose the new file name and topic title. Since the dialog is already in my face, I just change it right then and there. But from what you are stating, you are clicking OK to dismiss the dialog, then calling it back up again to make the change? What is preventing you from just entering what you want right there on the dialog before you commit?
Cheers.. Rick

Duplicate digital output on 32-bit port
Hi all, any help appreciated with the last (!) step in a very time consuming puzzle...
I have a PCI-6254 card with 2 x 64 channel breakout cables. Each cable goes to a remote box, each of which essentially runs a multiplexer and acquires analog signals.
Each multiplexer needs an array of 4-bit addresses (eg. 0 to 15) to cycle the multiplexer channels, which I can succesfully generate on port0\line0:3 which are found in cable 1 going to box 1.
My mission is now to duplicate this digital signal in the second cable going to the second box. For this card, Cable 1 has port0\line0:7 and cable 2 has port0\line8:31. I understand that it's a 32-bit port, so I need to send it a 32-bit address.
So I simply (!) want to send identical digital outputs on port0\line0:3 and on (say) port0\line8:11. They should be triggered by the same clock, etc.
Is this possible? However I try so far I can only generate an output on lines 0:3. From what I've read, I'm wondering if the whole of the port is tied up by writing a 32-bit number to the first 4 lines....
Thanks!
Thanks both, really appreciate your input. I think I tried something like that today with no success but maybe I did it wrong. It ran without errors but just generated the output on 0:3. I'll try your suggestion in the morning (New Zealand evening now).
I think I need to replace the 1D boolean with a 1D U32 array to send the right bit address (I am sending the mux channels in a funny order, something like 4,0,3,6,10,etc). But then I fear that it will only run one task, as the whole 32-bit port is being addressed each time.
GerdW - could you explain how I would go about setting the right bits to send, say, a value to 4 to both sets of lines? I can't get my head around it...
Thanks guys! -
Browse sequence - duplicate topic
Browse sequences have been created from TOC.
I have a topic in the TOC referenced twice from two different
sections. Once help is generated, on the "Contents" tab, if I
drill-down on the TOC tab to the topic, select something in the
topic, and then press the back button, the TOC jumps to the
secondary place where the topic is listed:
TOC EXAMPLE:
_Software Intro
_____Presets
__________Device Presets < Access topic by drilling down
from "Software Intro" then "Presets"
_Something Else
_Something Else
_Devices
_____Device Presets < Press the "back" button and end up
here on the TOC
_____Device Info
Is there a way to control which TOC reference it chooses when
the "back" button is pressed? I would like the user to be able to
get back where they came from in the TOC, but I also want the user
to access the topic from both places in the TOC.
Thanks much!
JenRH goes to the first location it finds, sorry.
You can, however, create a redirect page as a "dummy
placeholder" in the TOC with the same name (in the TOC) as the
"original." Create a new topic that has no text, but with the line
below in the HEAD section. Then drag it to the desired location the
TOC. (In case you're curious, the "0" indicates no delay in opening
the topic.)
Good luck,

Hello,
I am getting double topics appearing in my Search window.
I have read all the posts on this issue and have discovered that if I compile to a folder higher than the project folder, the problem disappears.
From what I have read, it appears that this is due to me having topics that link out to topics in a location higher than my project folder.
But I have no knowledge of having created such links. I have very few external links in my project and they all go to webpages.
Is there a way of searching for the culprit link? Or could the problem be caused by something else?
Thanks
Helen
Using RH7Thanks Peter.
I'm getting there but I need a bit more help.
I used the FAR tool mentioned in the snippet to look inside my CHM but I don't really know what I'm looking for.
I've found lots of links that start with ../ or even ../../../ but if I go to the topic and edit the hyperlink and remove these, I get a message saying 'This action will create an external link to the help system. The link may not function when the help system is moved to other system. Create link anyway?'
Isn't an external link what I'm trying to avoid?
The topic I'm linking to is in a different folder but all folders are within the main project folder.
If I create a new link by highlighting some topic text and clicking the Hyperlink button, then select another topic from the topic list, it is automatically displayed in the Link to box with ../../ in front of it. Is this wrong then?
I'm attaching a screenshot of part of the link file to show you what it's coming up with. -
[SOLVED][Duplicate]Garbage output during boot
During boot you can see something like "666666666666" constantly printed amoung other messages:
http://i.imgur.com/2YOShSMl.jpg
This continues even after we are booted and ready to login into the system:
http://i.imgur.com/THZWZT4l.jpg
The first time I've noticed this was about half a year ago. It didn't really bothered me, because kdm still worked and you could successfully log into system.
Yesterday, however, I tried install arch on my new ssd and bumped into this problem even during booting from usb drive with installation iso.
Any ideas what could this be? I'm not even sure where to look for the root of the problem.

Maximum number of keywords, topics in an Index?
Good morning,
Macromedia/eHelp claimed at one point that the number of
topics and size of a WinHelp 2000 project was very large -
thousands of topics and I think a few gig of space. I have 517
documents, some with up to 45 topics, and a total of 2688 topics.
It compiles fine, but can't index worth a darn. Because it was
originally field level help (from an old DOS system), there are
duplicate topic names with different content. Is that what's
causing my problem? I can't find anything on here or the web about
indexing problems with the software. I found something on
stoplists, but it didn't apply to my situation.
What experiences have you had with large RH for Word projects
with thousands of topics and what tips can you give me? Anything
about indexing? Eventually, we'll probably need to go with a .CHM
output, but we can do that RH for Word. I haven't had ANY problems
with indexing in RoboHTML, but unfortunately that's not an option
for this project at the moment.
Thanks,

There never was a limit to the number of slides in an iPhoto slideshow. That 99 limit was for slideshow created in iDVD from imported stills. iDVD can not have more than 99 slides in any one slideshow that's created entirely in iDVD but at 99 the chapter number of the next slide (each slide is considered a chapter) reverts back to 1. It's a DVD standard issue, not an iDVD thing.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance. -
Best way to handle duplicate headings stemming from linked TOC book?
What's the best way to handle duplicate topic titles stemming from TOC books that contain links to a topic that you want to have appear in the body? The problem I've had for years now is that the TOC generates one heading, and the topic itself generates one heading.This results in duplicate headings in the printed output.
I have a large ~2500 topic project I have to print every release, and to date we've been handling it in post-build word macros, but it's not 100% effective, so we're looking to fix this issue on the source side of the fence. On some of our smaller projects, we've actually marked with the heading in the topic itself with the Online CBT and that seems to work. We're thinking of doing the same to our huge project unless there's a better way of handling this. Any suggestions?See the tip immediately above this link. http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/printing/rh9_printing.htm#wizard_page3
The alternative is to remove the topic from the print layout so that it only generates by virtue of its link to the book.

Use Topic in TOC more than once...
We have just purchased RoboHelp 6 for our Help System
generation as well as to begin developing online training courses.
I have a WebHelp File that contains 5 books - one book per
procedure. I have a topic that is applicable to two procedures.
Without having to make a copy of the topic, is it possible to set
up the TOC to use the topic in question more than once?
The problem arises when I am setting up the Browse Sequence.
I tried to set up the Browse Sequence using the Auto-create using
TOC...option, but the sequence appears to be in alphabetically
order. In fact, it is in no way, shape or form even close to the
TOC (as indicated in the Help - Topics in each browse sequence will
be in the same order as in the TOC)!!!
So, I tried to manually create the browse sequence. I used a
browse sequence to contain all topics, then I set up another browse
sequence to contain the duplicate topic. When I use the navigation
arrows to move through the toc, it will not advance to the second
browse sequnce.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
in advance.
LisaHi LNT1
The trick to all this is to never directly link from the TOC
to the desired topic. Let's assume the TOC should have a topic
appearing in two different places. In order to make this work, you
link from two different redirect pages.
Now if you generate WebHelp, I see where there could be an
issue, because the browse sequence can only link from one topic to
another. In other words, a topic can only have a single link to and
a single link from it. So in this case, the redirect trick would
fail. However, another trick comes to mind that may work. Instead
of a Redirect page, you could have two different pages that instead
of redirecting, contained an Inline Frame (IFRAME) that simply
displayed the contents of the desired page. Basically, the pages
containing the IFRAME would link properly and provide the desired
effect.
For more on IFRAMEs, download my Tips and Tricks file and
scan it for how to create IFRAMES.

Single Output to Multiple Fax Numbers
Hello
I have a scenario where a single output should be directed to 2 Fax #'s. I tried the standard way in SAP via Fax address management and it had option of entering 2 #;s.
However, only 1 is being sent. Do we have some other ways of doing it? Yes, i don't want to
1) Send manually by selecting and re-send
2) Create/Duplicate the Output and assign the second fax #.
Any other ways are highly appreciated.
Thanks
AshwiniHi,
As per standard you can not send output to two different fax numbers at once in creation mode. If you want u can enter manually in change mode which you are not interested.
The only way is with the help of user exit just try to put some code in output program as per your requirement...
Thanks
