Duplicate topics in search

Hello,
I am getting double topics appearing in my Search window.
I have read all the posts on this issue and have discovered that if I compile to a folder higher than the project folder, the problem disappears.
From what I have read, it appears that this is due to me having topics that link out to topics in a location higher than my project folder.
But I have no knowledge of having created such links. I have very few external links in my project and they all go to webpages.
Is there a way of searching for the culprit link? Or could  the problem be caused by something else?
Thanks
Helen
Using RH7

Thanks Peter.
I'm getting there but I need a bit more help.
I used the FAR tool mentioned in the snippet to look inside my CHM but  I don't really know what I'm looking for.
I've found lots of links that start with ../ or even ../../../ but if I go to the topic and edit the hyperlink and remove these, I get a message saying 'This action will create an external link to the help system. The link may not function when the help system is moved to other system. Create link anyway?'
Isn't an external link what I'm trying to avoid?
The topic I'm linking to is in a different folder but all folders are within the main project folder.
If I create a new link by highlighting some topic text and clicking the Hyperlink button, then select another topic from the topic list, it is automatically displayed in the Link to box with ../../ in front of it. Is this wrong then?
I'm attaching a screenshot of part of the link file to show you what it's coming up with.

  • Duplicate Topic Output?

    Greetings
    On a PC importing Frame 10 into RoboHelp 9 as part of the TCS, I am getting duplicate topic hits on search returns. This is the most plain vanilla project you can imagine. Started with a clean import. Output WebHelp, opened the output and noticed I had not selected lower case file names. So I reran the output with that selected.
    I ran a search for a relatively rare text string, and noticed that there were duplicate topics returned, with different breadcrumbs. But seeing that half of the output had mixed case file names and the other half lower case, I deleted the WebHelp folder in !SSL and regenerated the output. Same result, duplicate topics, one mixed case and one lower case.
    The only weird thing I can notice is the breadcrumbs. The mixed case topics all lead back to a custom home page that I built that is essentially a welcome screen with linked TOC to the chapter files. The lower case files lead back through the directory structure.
    I ran a search for that term in the WebHelp directory, the results appear in the attached file. The mixed case files lead back to the project root directory (Admin), the lower case to a mutant version of the chapter name.
    Any thoughts? I hate to start this over again, deadlines are looming and this two hour project has sapped my whole day.
    Thanks in advance.
    Karl

    Hi,
    Are you seeing these duplicate toipcs in the output directory only or are they also present in the project itself? If they are only in the output, you can just generate the output again. Backup the current output if you like.

  • Duplicate check on search term for BP creation in CRM

    HI,
    I want to do a duplicate check on search term for BP creation in CRM.
    i found one BADI ADDRESS_SEARCH. But the method address_search is not getting called.
    Is there any other BADI available? how can I handle this issue?

    hello,
    BP is BDT (Business Data toolset) enabled (you can check it by adding break point in FM BUS_PBO and executing BP transaction). You can add your check directly to standard view (the check will be executed each time when user pushes enter) or you could add you check to appropriate action (during saving etc.) there are number of actions which you could use it depends on your requirements. You can find a lot of info about BDT (if you are not familiar) in Wiki.

  • Duplicate topics in ALI file

    Hello,
    I recently took over a project that's using RoboHelp X5, and
    I'm having trouble with duplicate topics listed in the ALI file.
    For example, the topic named "Add Product" has the following 2
    records in the ALI file:
    Add_Product=Product/Add_Product.htm
    Add_Product1=Product/Add_Product.htm
    This duplication has occured for most (but not all) of the
    topics. Does anyone know why this is happening or how I can fix it?
    Is it okay to delete the duplicates from the ALI file or will that
    cause problems?
    Thank you!

  • Duplicate topic for book

    When I generate my PDF using the "Printed Documentation"
    layout, everywhere I have a book icon in my TOC I get a duplicate
    topic in the chapter layout. How do I prevent these
    duplicates?

    Let's go through an example.
    Your project has Topics 1, 2 and 3.
    Your build does not use any conditional build tags so in printed documentation if your layout includes all three topics, all three will be there. If you include a topic many times, it will be there for each inclusion. Take one out, only that one goes.
    You say the information that was in the topic has gone which sounds like the topic is there but blank. Do you mean the topic has gone? Do you mean there is no instance of that topic, not one?
    Some screen shots might help. Use the camera icon about, not the Attach Files link below.

  • Duplicate Topics

    I have a Project where topics are duplicated throughout the
    entire project. Periodically these pieces of documentation are
    updated. How can I update one topic so the updates will copy down
    to the remaining duplicate topics? Currently I have to go into each
    topic and make the applicable changes.

    This is a bit of a tangent, but note that you don't have to
    create separate topics with duplicate information. For example,
    let's assume that your Help system contains two books based on the
    two modules available in your software: Module A and Module B. Your
    books might be set up like this:
    BOOK A:
    * About Module A
    * Feature A-1
    * Feature A-2
    BOOK B:
    * About Module B
    * Feature B-1
    * Feature B-2
    If you want to add the "About Module A" topic to Book B,
    simply open the TOC tab, click Book B, click the new page icon,
    enter a TOC title for the new page, and select the "About Module A"
    topic from your topic list. So you could end up with this layout
    for Book B:
    * About Module B
    * Feature B-1
    * Feature B-2
    * About Module A
    Or you could end up with this:
    * About Module B
    * Feature B-1
    * Feature B-2
    * Additional Information (which has a different TOC title but
    still loads the "About Module A" topic)

  • Hiding some topics from Search mechanism

    Hi,
    I have some html pages, which i have used as popup in some
    topics. But i want to hide these html pages from the Search
    mechanism.
    I tried changing the html ext to xhtml and importing it as
    baggage file (i came across this sometime back when i was
    generating HTML Help). But this will restrict the html page from
    appearing as popup.
    Is there any solution?
    Pls suggest...

    Folks,
    When I need to generate a nearly identical version of
    WebHelp, I duplicate the layout , edit the second one and give it a
    new name. This helps me remember what I generated.
    A variation on Chet's method:
    Generate and publish WebHelp, filtering out the
    "ExcludeFromSearch" items (Steps 1 through 4).
    Generate WebHelp with the layout that doesn't exclude those
    items.
    Publish with "Prompt before overwriting files" selected and
    approve them one at a time (not many will change), but do not
    approve overwriting any of the files in whdata, wgdata and wxdata.
    This should add the excluded files to the published WebHelp
    but leaving the filtered search database.
    There's another method, not for the fainthearted, because it
    requires breaking a basic RH rule:
    With the project closed (not active in RH) go into the
    project directory in Windows and move the files you want excluded
    from the search database. Put them in a safe place outside the
    project folder.
    Launch the project, generate as usual (you don't have to use
    an "exclude" tag), and publish the project. RH will build the
    search databases from the files it can see, and will omit links to
    the missing files.
    The missing files will appear in the RH project directory
    with a red X.
    Import the missing files. Generate again with "Prompt before
    overwriting files" selected (this time RH will include links) and
    approve changes one by one, but do not approve overwriting any of
    the files in whdata, wgdata and wxdata.
    The tradeoffs:
    Revising file names and Inserting code suggested by Roger,
    --or--
    Applying the exclude tag and saving the filtered search
    databases,
    --or--
    Applying the exclude tag and not allow overwriting of the
    filtered search databases,
    --or--
    Moving and re-importing excluded files and publishing changes
    one by one.
    If you have a lot of files to exclude, the last method may
    save some time.
    Otherwise, it looks like a wash.

  • Duplicate messages in search results (when using Smart Mailboxes, etc)

    I've recently started using Search Folders more and more in Mail.app
    I've encountered this very annoying bug/feature, where duplicate messages show up in a search (inside Mail). The duplicate messages are showing up multiple times (once, for each Smart Mailbox they reside in) as well as their physical Mailbox, as well as "All Mail".
    The lowdown:
    Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.4 Build 9E17)
    Dual 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 -----(shut up! it still rocks w/my multiple 23'' apple displays)
    2GB RAM
    Mail.app Version 3.3 (926.1/926)
    This feature/bug makes it VERY difficult to find things when I'm forced to sift through at least 3 copies of any message that appears in Smart Mailboxes.
    Should I stop using Smart Mailboxes because this is a deliberate feature?
    Any suggestions or thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated.
    In a search, I think that a better way to display the multiple locations (through Smart Mailboxes, etc) that a mailbox "appears" would be to add something to the header section of a message, below everything else, or off to the right, which would indicate the Original (physical) folder a message exists in, as well as it's locations via Search Folders. This would at least eliminate the problem where they're showing up as two, three, or more COPIES within a search.
    Thanks,
    Jackson

    Hi Christiaan !
    I understand your problem. Could you set your IMAP account to avoid multiple simultaneous sessions?? maybe if there is only one session allowed per user or per time, then parallel XI threads will not be able to start downloading the messages.
    If you cannot use a longer poll interval, then you could develop an adapter module for the Mail sender adapter that could be used to verify if the current mail is just being downloaded by other thread. This adapter module could check the unique mail data (date/time + subject + etc.) against a local table.
    Regards,
    Matias.

  • Search Topics includes topics without search term

    In testing my .chm output, when I type in a search term and select the 'List Topics' button, the list of topics includes many topics that do not include the search term. I had assumed that the search function was a free text search, and would only include topics where the search term is present. Can someone clarify if my assumption is incorrect, or if there is some configuration change I need to make prior to generating the .chm to ensure only topics where the search term is present are included in the search results?

    Hi there
    Can you please clarify that a wee bit?
    What specific term are you finding that shouldn't be found? Please list some examples and perhaps we can offer alternatives or maybe explain why it's working as it is.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Can we duplicate standard query Search Master Agreements and Agreements.

    Hi Experts,
    I have a requirement to hide Agreement Manager and Business Unit & Region result fields in standard Search Master Agreements and Agreements query.
    I have duplicated this standard query and deleted Agreement Manager and Business Unit & Region result fields. Try to run this query but it is giving error.
    Execution Type is Java.
    Query Executor Class: com.sap.eso.contracts.query.SearchAllMAandAgreements
    Error:  SQL Exception: Fail to convert to internal representation, ANSI-92 SQL State: 99999, Vendor Error Code: 17059. Fail to convert to internal
              representation.
    Does anyone have idea about this functionality or how this standard query can be modified.
    Thanks,
    Lava

    Hi Lava,
    There is the Standard Query ODP-ESO-MasterAgreementList
    Duplicate the query and remove the fields from the Result fields whcih you dont want. I think you will get the result required.

  • Duplicate topics created in printed .doc

    each chapter (book) is replicated, first one that is
    numbered, and then another without TOC numbering
    plus the last two chapters are missing
    the glossary prints here but does not show in the Help

    When I right click a book in the TOC, I can see that a file
    is associated with the chapter in its Properties, but it is not a

    During compilation, I do see two Processing '11 - About
    xx'... statements after each Building '11 - xx'... statements
    In my b]Print Document Content - Printed Document  dialog,
    the Chapter Layout pane shows two of every topic, I can re-order
    them, but can’t remove them.

    The RoboHelp Help file may have actually helped – the

    to remove all (<<) and then add all (>>). That cleaned

  • WebHelp: opening a topic with search results highlighted

    Hello! I am using an external search engine to index a large documentation set, including some WebHelp output. I would like for the returned results to open matching WebHelp topics with the matching search terms highlighted. Is there a supported URL pattern for this, or does anyone in this forum have experience using additional JavaScript to do this? I'm happy to code it into a master page, but recommendations for a good starting JS library would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Jason

    It will depend entirely on the search engine you use. I have used ZoomSearch and what you want can be set up there using code provided by ZoomSearch. You will need to approach whoever supplied your engine.

  • Blank duplicate emails in search

    When I do a search in iMail I get duplicate emails under the original, which have the same from, subject, date received details, but which have no mailbox and are entirely empty. I can't understand where these are coming from. They do not appear in my inbox, or any other mailboxes, only when I do a search. Does anyone know how I can get rid of these?
    Thanks, Dan

    If anyone stumbles across this and has the same issue, delete the Envelope Index, then restart mail. Works like a treat.

  • Adding keywords to a topic causes search to return file names instead of topic titles

    When I search for a term in my WebHelp Pro project, the topics returned are shown by file name if the topic has anything in its Properties > General > Keywords field and are shown by topic title if there are no keywords defined for the topic.
    I've confirmed this behavior by adding and removing keywords from topics and watching them alternate between being shown in searches by file name or by topic title.
    Obviously, I want topics to be displayed by topic titles in search results no matter if they have keywords assigned or not.
    Any idea what would be causing this? Is this a known bug?
    Here's some additional information. For this problem to occur, these four conditions must be true:
    The topic must have manually added keyword(s) in the Properties > General > Keywords field.
    The topic title and the file name must be different.
    One must be searching for one of the keyword(s) added in step 1.
    Occurs in WebHelp Pro when published to a remote server.
    Talks with Adobe today are inconclusive but it appears that this was an unknown bug. Maybe I'll get a free t-shirt or something.

    Hi Rocky,
    Log on to the Robohelp Configuration Manager
    Uncheck the option "reindex documents at server".
    Republish and check. If issue exists try restarting the Apache/Tomcat Server.
    That should work for you.

    Robbie

  • Duplicate Topic, Then Rename causes RH7 Crash ?

    I am able to duplicate a topic and save the default.  The file name is taken from the original Topic Title and preceeded with 'Copy_of'_".  I can right click and select Rename and change the name of the file and save.  I can change the 'Topic Title' in the new file by editing in 'Properties'.   However, when I select 'Save', RoboHelp crashes ("RoboHelp 7 has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Please close the pgm.") .  This crash happens in a couple of different sequences involving the duplication of topics.  Note that the new file exists, but the crash seems to involve only the renaming of the Topic Title not the filename.  I've deleted the .xpj and .cpd and restarted.

    Hi there
    An observation from the sidelines here. I can't help but to notice that in the workflow you listed said you duplicate, then you later elect to rename?
    I'm curious as to why you would follow that procedure?
    Please bear with me. I do the duplicate hokey pokey all the time and I've never seen a crash occur from duplication. But my process varies a bit from yours. It seems that the first thing that happens when you duplicate a topic is that RoboHelp presents you with a dialog allowing you to choose the new file name and topic title. Since the dialog is already in my face, I just change it right then and there. But from what you are stating, you are clicking OK to dismiss the dialog, then calling it back up again to make the change? What is preventing you from just entering what you want right there on the dialog before you commit?
    Cheers.. Rick
