Duplicate track entries

Is there a fix which could cross reference tracks in my iTunes database. I currently have over 3500 duplicates. What I would like best is to , for example, cross reference tracks on a greatest hits CD to that of the original album tracks if I already own them, linking them both to one file. I would only then need to import the tracks I don't already have stored. I could then either play the full original cd or the full greatest hits cd. I am reluctant to delete duplicate tracks as I like listening to the full cds as purchased and not have partial listings that would happen should I delete duplicate songs. I am surprised Apple hasn't already addressed this issue.
iMac (Intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   3 iPods

I suppose it could, but again the maintenance by the user would be high.
For instance if you decide to delete a track or album that owns the prime version of the tracks shared by other albums what happens? How does the track transfer prime ownership to the other Album.
If you add a new album for instance one containing many artists, how long would it take a user to cross reference every track to one's that already might exist in other Albums, and which one gets deleted?
In effect what you are asking for is Playlists that hold the tracks for virtual albums, but that don't exist as actual playlists but Albums themselves.
It would be very confusing and I suspect people would lose even more tracks than they do now by accidental deletions.
Just live with the duplicates, knowing that you have full and complete recordings as they were made and ripped from the CD's.
3000 duplicate tracks only take up about 12GB.

  • How can I import an m3u playlist into iTunes that intentionally contains duplicate tracks? I want the duplicates in this case.

For instance, if my M3u file looks like the 2 lines below, only one copy of the mp3 file is imported. I'd like the same track to be imported twice.
    Back To Black.mp3
    Back To Black.mp3
btw, the reason I'd like this to work is that I use a separater track in playlists between groups of similar tracks. This separater is not being imported correctly as is being unhelpfully recognised as an unwanted duplicate.
    Any advice appreciated.

    I just did the following.
Created a m3u file with a series of tracks with one entry duplicated.
Made a new empty playlist in a test iTunes library which did not contain the files and dragged the m3u file to that playlist.
It created a duplicate playlist entry for that one duplicated track but of course it points to the same file.  If you really want iTunes to duplicate the file you will have to trick it into thinking it is a different file.  Using your library management preferences (which are identical to mine) you will have to duplicate the file in Finder so you really do have two files and add it again.  Perhaps if iTunes was managing the media it would not behave that way and might add the file twice since dragging to iTunes with default preferences settings just places a copy on the iTunes folder and leaves the original in place, so you'd be dong hte equivalent of dragging twice (I'd have to test to check this since I don't use default settings either).  With your settings it just refers to the original wherever it is.  Hopefully I've phrased that well enough.

  • Duplicate tracks in I tunes.

My I Tunes has gone crazy since I organised my MP3 collection. When I open I-Tunes now it is showing duplicate tracks sometimes 5 of same song etc.
How do I get it to show just one song per artist.

Did this duplication happen today or recently on a date you can identify? Right click at the top of any column in your library and from the list choose Date Added. Click at the top of the column and sort it to bring the latest dates to the top. If you did it today all your duplicates should have today's date. Select all the tracks with today's date and delete them.
You could also have a look at Teridon's iTunes Scripts, Robert has a script in there for dealing with duplicates which might be of some help: Teridon's iTunes for Windows Scripts
Just note: The duplicate eliminator in Robert's scripts package only works for these two kinds of duplicates:
    1) Multiple copies of the exact same file (e.g. "Song.mp3" and "Song 1.mp3", where "Song 1.mp3" is simply a copy of Song.mp3
    2) Multiple entries in the iTunes Library for the exact same file.
The script does nothing for duplicates that are the same song, but different files (e.g. encoded by someone else, has different artwork or other tags, etc.)
There are also some third party programs out there, like "Dupe Eliminator" that might help in more complicated cases. If you do a quick web search I'm sure you'll find more: Dupe Eliminator

  • Someone please settle this problem once and for all! (Duplicate Tracks)

I had an iPod about two years ago and ended up getting a different mp3 player. I now have a new 5G iPod and am having the same issue I had 2 years ago for the short time I had my old iPod. Duplicate tracks showing up in my iPod's library. I searched through these forums and found a lot of people having these problems, but none of the suggestions I read in the other threads seemed to do anything.
This seems to be an underlying problem for a lot of people and I don't understand why Apple would make their players this ********. I've had several other mp3 players in the last 2 years and you put in an artists' name and all the songs appear together under one name and are simply organized by Album, genre, year, etc... but, I loaded all my songs onto the iPod and even though tracks all contain the same artist name I get multiple listings for the same artist.
For instance, if I have several albums all of their filenames contain the artists' name, followed by a dash and then the name of the song. The artist name in the iTunes tag all match exactly as well. So why in the **** do names show up multiple times? I had this problem two years ago and it was never resolved, and I checked all over the boards and just couldn't come to a solution. I'll tell you one thing though, I can't believe it's this hard to get all of one artist under one listing on the player. Kinda dumb.
Please forgive me if this topic has been discussed to death. I just couldn't get anything useful out of any previous topics I looked at.

Alright I just checked my tracks and settings and what not and added some more music now I get a bunch of extra multiple listings. This is so ********. lol! Here is a screenshot of my iPod that I just took. Now this is just dumb because there aren't many ways that you can mess up the spelling in the name 2Pac. It's a 2, a capital P, a lowercase a, and c.
    http://home.comcast.net/~johnnybukkake/iPod_Screenshot.jpg
The first listing gives me almost all his albums just fine. Then for the second listing I get another one of his full albums. And for the last three listings I get a single song in each of them. I mean really, Apple... How does a flaw this stupid rear it's ugly head into so many people's players?!

  • How do you delete duplicate tracks off your playlist?!

How do you delete duplicate tracks off your playlist - everytime I connect my hard-drive it adds another of every single track - argh!!!!
I remember there being a 'delete duplicate tracks' option on a much older version of itunes - is this still available and if not if you opt for the 'consolidate library' option will this automatically save to you computer as I have too much music for my laptops memory capacity! On top of that how can I stop this issue from contantly re-occuring everytime I connect my hard-drive?! Apologies if im being thick here.... xX*laura*Xx

You are doing something wrong, iTunes doesn't add tracks to the library unless you ask it to, so there is a problem somewhere in your workflow which is creating the duplicates. For example, having iTunes set up to "Copy files to the iTunes Media folder when adding to library" and then repeatedly adding in a folder from an external drive would do it.
Once you've worked out how to stop creating new duplicates you can look at the issue of deduping what you already have. See this recent post for some thoughts and a script that may prove useful.

  • How do I get rid of duplicate calendar entries in my notifications?

I managed to get rid of all my duplicate calendar entries on my calendar.  I unchecked all but the two calendars I use.
The problem is that when I go to my notifications screen, under "Calendar", it still shows all my entries like three times.  How do I get rid of this?  It takes up all the realestate on my notifications.

Sounds like your syncing Calendars over the air with iCloud, as well as with a supported Calendar application on your computer. Doing both will duplicate your entries, so do one or the other, not both.

  • How can I turn off the sound from the original midi  or audio tracks when I turned on the duplicate tracks for editing ?

How can I turn off the sound from the original midi or audio tracks when I edit or listen to the duplicate tracks in Logic Pro 9 ?
I'm using iMac desktop with Mac OS X Version 10.7.3. Pls advise.

    Dan,
It sounds like one of your preferences has changed.
Go to preferences > audio > general, and make sure "track mute/solo" is set to "CPU saving (slow response)". It is probably set to "Fast " at the moment.
This setting (fast) basically causes immediate muting from the channel strip while your song is in play. This is because the audio is still being read from the hard drive, but the channel strip is simply muted.... like a hardware mixer. When set to "CPU saving", the audio from that track, when muted, is actually stopped from streaming from the hard drive, but there is a couple second delay before the audio is actually muted.
One would think that the fast setting is generally preferable, except when you need to do what you are doing. The only way to keep duplicate copies of channel strips acting independent of one another is to leave this setting on the "CPU saving" setting.
    Hope that helps

  • Is there an easy way to eliminate duplicate tracks from iTunes on a mac?

All of a sudden I have over 6,500 duplicate tracks in my iTunes.  Not entire albums but many tracks from an album are duplicated.  Is there an easy way to get rid of these tracks or do I have to do this one by one?  Also why would this be happening? I have "Keep iTunes Media Organized" checked as well as "Copy files to iTunes when adding to library".

It is hard to say why.  iTunes is unlikely to do this all its own and there is probably something you did like add a folder that is not part of the current media collection thinking it needed adding, but it had already been added in the past.
There is no simple, universal panacea for duplicates.  You can try some of the suggestions below.
How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2905
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/itinfo/dupin.php (commercial)
Posts by turingtest2 about different types of duplicates and techniques- https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3555601 and https://discussions.apple.com/message/16042406 (Note: The DeDuper script is for Windows)
Frankly, I would do it manually.  As you can see from turingtest2's post, some duplicates are not really duplicates and I would rather do it manually than discover that a script had removed my only copy of a file (yes, I have backups but I may not notice for a year or so a file is no longer there, by which time I would have overwritten the backup because I do not have drive space for storing a year's worth of weeky iTunes backups tens of GB in size).
I would also review how you add media to iTunes.  It should not be producing all that many duplicates.

  • How to remove duplicate tracks on my Library?

How do I quickly delete duplicate tracks in itune library?
I have many duplicate tracks because I uploaded 5 cds twice.
I upload cds to my itune library.
I then made changes to the song names and added coverflow.
So how do I back up these albums to my hard drive or external drive so if I loose it or want to upload these albums to another computer?
    thank you for your help...

Just go to view > show duplicates and delete accordingly. As for backing stuff up, read this:

    Hi,
While transferring my data from a bold 9900 to my new z10 using BB Link I ended up with duplicate calendar entries, one from my account calendar and another from my local.  Some of the entries don't show up as reoccurring so it's difficult to remove.  How do I clear all the local entries?  I tried searching and only found solutions for the previous versions of the desktop software.

    Hey z10bbuser,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
You can not clear individual databases in BlackBerry 10.  You can clear the calendar individually by manual deletion or you can do a security wipe.  This is found under Settings>Security & Privacy.  Please Note: A Security wipe will erase all data and installed applications on the BlackBerry Z10.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • Check duplicate data entry in multi record block, which is a mandatory field

    Dear all,
I have a situation where i have to check duplicate data entry(on a particular field, which is a mandatory field,i.e. it cannot be skipped by user without entering value) while data key-in in a Multi Record block.
As for reference I have used a logic, such as
1>In a When-Validate-Record trigger of that block I am assigning the value of that current item in Table type variable(collection type)
as this trigger fire every time as soon as i leave that record,so its assigning the value of that current time. And this process continues
    then
2>In a When-Validate-Item trigger of that corresponding item(i.e. the trigger is at item level) has been written, where it compares the value of that current item and the value stored in Table type variable(collection type) of When-Validate-Record trigger. If the current item value is matched with any value stored in Table type variable I am showing a message of ('Duplicate Record') following by raise_form_trigger failure
This code is working fine for checking duplicate value of that multi record field
The problem is that,if user enter the value in that field, and then goes to next field, enter value to that field and then press 'Enter Query 'icon, the bolth Validate trigger fires. As result first when-validate record fires, which stores that value, and then when-validate-item fires,as a result it shows duplicate record message
Please give me a meaningful logic or code for solving this problem
Any other logic to solve this problem is also welcome

    @Ammad Ahmed
first of all thanks .your logic worked, but still i have some little bit of problem,
now the requirement is a master detail form where both master and detail is multirecord ,where detail cannot have duplicate record,
    such as..........
    MASTER:--
    A code
    A1
    A2
    DETAIL:--
    D code
    d1
    d2 <-valid as for master A1 , detail d1 ,d2 are not duplicate
    d2 <--invalid as as for master A1 , detail d2 ,d2 are duplicate
validation rule:  A Code –D Code combination is unique. The system will stop users from entering duplicate D Code for a A Code. Appropriate error message will be displayed.*
actually i am facing a typical problem, the same logic i have been applied in detail section ,its working fine when i am inserting new records.problem starts when i query, after query in ' a ' field say 2 records (i.e. which has been earlier saved) has been pasted, now if i insert a new record with the value exactly same with the already present value in the screen(i.e. value populated after query) its not showing duplicate.................could u tell me the reason?and help me out...............its urgent plzzzzzzzzz

  • Duplicate gl entry

hi everyone ..i am new to SAP...
i have a doubt if it is a repeated question please forgive me.
my question is how to avoid duplicate GL entry ?
how to avoid duplicate vendor based on vendor name?
    thanking you in advance

There is no standard SAP Functionality to avoid GL duplicate entry. But we can customize if need.
Vendors are maintained at client level and have unique number. There is no standard sap setting where we can avoid duplicate vendor creation based on name. This also we can customize.
In vendor master we can specify the  duplicate entry check at comany code level. SAP prevent to post duplicate vendor invoices etc.
