Duplicate TV Shows in iPod Menu

I've had one season of family guy on my ipod for a few months now that i edited the metadata with lostify to get them to show up under "tv shows"- I just got 2 more seasons on dvd and ripped them to my ipod and downloaded the new version of lostify and edited their metadata as well. when i put all of the seasons on my ipod, there are two entries for family guy under "tv shows" and if i select either of them i am able to see all of my episodes, from all 3 seasons, under each entry in the "tv shows" menu. i figured there must be some inconsistency in how i labeled the files so i ran them all, old and new seasons, through lostify again and used the check boxes to make sure that the same info was being copied to each- and i didnt have any luck with that- the two entries for family guy still show up on my ipod- i determined that if i only put the two new seasons or the one old season on, then there's only one entry for family guy. anyone know what is going on? or does anyone know of a program that will completely delete all metadata for a file so i can re-label them all at once and see if that works?
thanks in advance,
matt

In iTunes, right click on these shows, select "get info/options" and then in the "media kind" box select "TV show".
Transfer these to your iPod and they should show up under the TV show menu.

Why am I getting duplicate albums on my Ipod but in Itunes there is just one copy of the album. This isn't on all of them, just the odd few
Ipod 3rd Gen 30 Gb   Windows XP

A spelling or punctuation mistake, or sometimes a trailing space usually causes this after the artists and/or song name, which fools the iPod into thinking that there are two different artists or songs. The trailing space is the hardest to spot.
Best way to cure this is to go into iTunes, highlight that artist and/or songs, right click on them and select "get info".
This brings up the multiple song info window. In the artist or song box retype the name, as you would like it, and then click ok. You should do this even if no mistakes are immediately visible.
Re sync this new artist/song info to your iPod.

that is odd! that should not be happening.
Are you syncing your songs right off of itunes itself? because it should be syncing over to the ipod however it is listed in itunes.

  • Movies and TV Shows Missing form iPod menu -- what's up with that?

I purchased my fist movie and TV episode last night to see how well I will like them on my iPod classic. I am connecting to the most up to date version of iTunes on my IBM/Win XP computer.
I watched the episode (Journeyman's first episode -- missed it on Monday...it's not bad) and was pleased. Then watched Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy -- also enjoyable even at the small size (especially the opening sequence which emulates "home movie" style in a very small frame).
Near the end of the movie, my iPod battery was giving up the ghost, so I paused the movie and plugged in. After waiting out the "Do not disconnect..." syncing process the main menu finally appeared on the iPod -- but the Movie and TV Shows selections were conspicuously missing from the menu! I have not seen my Movie/TV episode since.
They are in the iTunes library, obviously, but they simply never show up in the iPod menu. So far I have sync'd a number of times -- the sync settings were originally set by default to sync all songs, podcasts, TV Shows, Movies, Songs, etc... I tried "tweaking" these but to no avail. All syncs result in no Movie or TV Shows on the iPod menu.
Most recently I tried deleting all material from the iPod and then re-syncing all material back to the iPod (no help) and lastly I tried resetting to factory default settings (which originally seemed to work just fine) still to no avail.
When I select Settings >> Main Menu ... from the iPod main menu, the configuration screen also does not contain options for Movies or TV Shows.
It all makes me say "Hmmmm...." and leaves me reluctant to waste money on video media (though thank god my Tiki TV podcasts are still coming through just fine ... no Lala? I don't think so!). Nope, check that! video podcasts are not coming through either. GEEZE!
Has anyone experienced this before? Again, I've updated all iPod and iTunes software. Nothing "funky" seemed to happen to cause the problem, other than it conincided with plugging my iPod in (which kicks off the blasted sync process -- geeze these settings are a pain...I'd prefer the blasted thing to just sync on demand) >:-( Any help/suggestions would be most appreciated. Without a solution, I'll never be able to keep up with Journeyman!
    Thanks

I can't remember exactly what I did. I do know that when I started it up, I couldn't find the Setup Assistant on the hard drive,
No, once a user has been created, you can't run Setup Assistant  (without erasing and reinstalling).
What do you recommend for fixing this?
    Here's what's happened:
When you first start up a Mac and create the first user account, OSX assigns it UID (User ID) #501.  The next one gets #502, etc.  Those UIDs (not the user name) are what control permission to files.
You can see those numbers via System Prefs > Users & Groups;  click the padlock and enter your Admin password, then select an account and right-click it, and select Advanced Options.  Do not change anything on that window.
So . . . assume your old iMac had a user 501 with the data you want; it's identified that way on the backups.
When the Apple Store started up your new Mac, and created their account, it became #501.
When you used Migration Assistant to transfer the 501 account from the iMac's backups, OSX copied everything there "as is" except it had to change the 501 to 502.
The new 502 account has all the right permissions to things now in it's home folder, but the backups belong to user 501.
Have you added much to the Mac since you did the migration?  Have you done any new backups?  If not, while it's a bit of a hassle, one fix would be to create yet another user account temporarily.  Make it an Admin account.  Log on to it and delete all the other accounts.  Then migrate the accounts from your backups; this time there won't be a conflict, so OSX won't have to change the UUID(s).
But if you have done new backups, this won't work, since Migration Assistant automatically uses the most recent backup.  There's a way around that, but it's a bit (or more) tedious.
    Clear as mud?

  • I'm trying to clean up my library before I sync it with my new ipod touch.  Apparently there is a DISPLAY DUPLICATES command in the file menu...can't find it?

Looking for the DISPLAY DUPLICATES command in the File Menu to delete songs before I sync with my new device????

You might need to bring up the menu bar first.
If you're using version 11.0.1.12, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
Now you should be able to find the duplicates thing in the View Menu.
(If you're still using iTunes version 11.0.0.163, you'd need to update to 11.0.1.12 to get the Display duplicates control.)
EDIT: Sorry, in the initial version of this reply, I said the Show Duplicate items was in the File Menu. It's in the View Menu in version 11.0.1.12.

  • How do i remove duplicate songs on my ipod and in my library

how do i remove duplicate songs on my ipod and in my library

Apple's official advice on duplicates is here: Find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls such as lost ratings and playlist membership, or that sometimes the same file can be represented by multiple entries in the library and that deleting one and recycling the file will break the other.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background, this post for detailed instructions, and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed.)
The most recent version of the script can tidy dead links as long as there is at least one live duplicate to merge stats and playlist membership to and should cope sensibly when the same file has been added via multiple paths.
Fix the library, then syncing should fix the device.

  • Some TV Shows purchased from iTunes do not show up in TV Shows on iPod

I have purchased several TV Shows from iTunes and most seem to show up correctly under TV Shows on my iPod. However, I purchased the first season of "The Office' and all the episodes show up as individual listings under Movies on my iPod. I also purchased the first season of "Weeds". One episode shows up under TV Shows and the rest are all listed under Movies. I have tried to change the video kind under options in "Get Info" but it is greyed out. My iPod is set to automatically update all.
Any help would be appreciated. The menus on my iPod are getting pretty messy.

The new ipod video already list TV Shows in the menu and most of my downloaded shows end up there. I have my ipod set to update my entire library when I sync so I don't I don't need to check individual playlists to update. Anyone have any other suggestions?

  • Rating folder in iPod menu

is there any way i can have a rating folder in the iPod menu?
What do i have to do?

There is no built-in feature that lists songs based on ratings.
However, you can do a lot of interesting stuff using +Smart Playlists+ in iTunes, and those playlists will show up on your iPod when you sync.
So, assuming what you want is to create (and maybe sort) a list, based on the songs you have rated highest...
    In iTunes, select
menu bar -> File -> New Smart Playlist
In the Smart Playlist editing window, check +Match the following rule+ and make the rule
    Rating is *five stars*
or if you want four and five stars
Rating is in the range *four stars* to *five stars*
or if you want any song that you have rated
Rating is greater than *zero stars*
or any way you desire, so that the songs you want are selected based on ratings. If you want to do something more complex, you can add a second rule by clicking on the plus sign.
Leave the other settings as they are, unless you want to do something like limit the number of songs on the playlist.
After setting up the Smart Playlist, if you want to sort it based on ratings, so that the 5 stars are at the top (for example), make sure Ratings is one of the columns in the playlist's list view (add it if it is not one of the columns), and click the Ratings column heading to sort by ratings.
Then sync the iPod to get this playlist on your iPod. The playlist will show up under Music -> Playlists. Note: Smart Playlists just act like regular playlists on the iPod, so if you change a song's rating on the iPod, the playlist will not get updated until you sync the iPod to the computer and that rating is updated in your iTunes library.

  • Duplicates and Manually Manage iPod content

Sometimes iTunes really ****** me off in some of the poor design choices that apple code designers have made. Case in point is the lack of Show Duplicates functionality on an iPod. Why is this function disabled???
Here is my problem - maybe someone has a suggestion that will make this omission less aggravating.
My music library is bigger than my iPod. Therefore, I have to manually manage the content on my iPod. I would LIKE to synchronize some of the playlists between my music library and iPod, but I CAN'T DO THAT because iTunes will delete everything off the iPod that is NOT in a playlist (another poor design decision!) - and I want to keep other things on my iPod that are not in my playlist.
So: in order to refresh and update playlist as they change, I tried copying the contents of a playlist in my music library into the playlist on my iPod. THIS, however, produces duplicates of each song in the playlist that are already on the iPod (another poor design decision!!!!)
Which of course brings me back to wanting the SHOW DUPLICATES function on the iPod.
Why were these poor decisions made and why is what I'm trying do so difficult?!?!?

    Okay.
Is the software on your computer up to date?
    iTunes
    iPod Updater
    Updating iPod's Software
If so, and the manual update still won't stick, then you may need to restore your iPod...
    Restore the iPod
See if it works after the restore.

  • Mutiple entries for same album on IPOD menu

I have many albums that are listed multiple times on my IPOD menu with the songs from those albums being split randomly between the two entries. How can I get all songs from any given album to show up together under one album entry? Is there a limit on the number of songs that can appear under one album title and that is why it's being split under two entries?

There's probably a different character you don't notice -- like an extra space at the end or something like that.
In iTunes, select all the songs and right-click and select "Get Info". Does the "Album" box fill in? If not, that means the Album names are different. Fill in the correct name, then click OK.
If the Album box is already filled, then something else is going on and I don't know what.

  • Can't find TV Shows on Ipod

I have some tv shows on itunes but I cant find them on my ipod. They appear under "tv shows" when i look on itunes (both computer and ipod menus) but I can't locate them on my ipod. Any suggestions?

I guess we share the same problem; I can't make "TV show" menu visible in iPod. Until it is solved I am just changing properties (right click on iTunes library) from TV show to Movie (or to music video) to be able to watch TV show on iPod.

  • Ipod appears in itunes but without ipod menu items (eg. Music, Movies, Podc

When I connect my 5th generation ipod (2006) to my pc (windows xp), my ipod appears in itunes (v.7.6) in the left pane in itunes, but there are no ipod menu items listed under the ipod icon (eg. Music, Playlists, Movies, Podcasts, Audiobooks, etc.). When I left-click on the ipod icon, the "Set Up Your iPod" screen appears WITHOUT any of the check-box options. There ARE playlists on the ipod .. when disconnected from the pc, the ipod functions perfectly .. including listing all my Songs, Compilations, Podcasts, Playlists, etc. I have RESET my ipod successfully (starting from scratch - wiped out all data), but that did not eliminated the missing ipod menu items in itunes. Does anyone know how to fix this ??!!!

Hi, back to the original thread !
... i checked out http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499 but it does not seem to resolve my problem ...
SOMETHING NEW i just noticed is that under Disk Manager for my "working ipod" (ie. all the menu items show up under the chevron in itunes) there is NO UNALLOCATED SPACE .. HOWEVER, with the "problem ipod", there is 78MB of unallocated space ... so i guess my next question is how do i reclaim the unallocated space without bricking my ipod ? Anyone ???
