Duplicate version of PS opening using context menu

I have photoshop CS3 icon in my Doc and launch PS. Then I use Control Click on a JPG to get the contextual menu, there's 1 Photoshop there and I select and it launches another duplicate version of PS. Same version 10.0.1. Now the icon I placed in the Doc is lit, plus a 2nd icon has appeared and is also lit. There are 2 PS running. I've had issues with Launch Services before, but usually in the contextual menu it shows multiple icons but different versions of the same app. In this case sometimes when I open an image this way, the jpg opens in the opened PS. Intermittently a new version of PS will launch and the JPG open within it and I have the 2 PS apps running. Where does this 2nd duplicate live on my drive? How do I stop this from happening, short of just opening images from within PS. Do I have to fix Launch Services? I forget how to do this. Since it's intermittent, maybe this isn't the issue?

V.K. the 2nd version that is opening is a version on an external Firewire backup hard drive that is attached to my computer. When I Control Click a jpg on my main drive, I only see one PS listed in the list of apps available to open the image, the assumption is that it is the PS version on the hard drive that the jpg is on (which is my main drive, not the external drive). What's odd is that this behavior is intermittent. Sometimes when using Control Click on an image, it will open in the PS that is already open and the one that is also on my main drive. Then for unknown reasons, the external drive PS will open in addition to the already open main drive version. HOWEVER, I just realized that if the jpg icon is generic, the 2nd PS launches. If the jpg icon is a mini image of what's the image is when opened, then when Control Clicking it opens in the already open PS. I opened the generic jpg from inside the main drive PS and then closed it. I then selected it, did a CMD + I and it changed the icon from generic to a mini of the picture. Then I Control CLicked it and it opened inside the main drive opened PS as hoped/expected. So it seems to have to do with whether the icon is generic or not. Thoughts on how to solve this?

Trackpad lags after opening the context menu

The case: I use my trackpad to open the context menu. I do not choose a menu item. I just move the mouse over a different screen control. Example: Close-window. I click (left) once, the context menu disappears. So far so good. Now I click again. But nothing happens. The control is not used.
The hint: I move the mouse to somewhere different, click, and move back to the control. Now the control can be used immediately.
Some explainations:
Just moving the mouse away and back does not help.
The UI shows me, that OSX notifies that the mouse is over the control.
I'm using OSX 10.8.4 with a MBP mid 2010. The problem purchases me since some OSX updates.
It happens independent from the trackpad device. The internal one shows the same behavior as the magic trackpad.
A direction to solve:
I checked the behavior with different other Macs. It is localized to mine.
I've created another user account. The behavior does not occur.
So I suggest it is something about my account preferences. Switching on and off the different trackpad preferences does not help.
What can I do?

for ex: when tree first load ,the context menu works fine.but when i drag a node to any another node,no context menu popup anymore.and sometimes the right cilck will trigger the edit mode.

Web items and HTML elements (for example, tables, texts, and images) that you insert into a Web template, as well as the Web template itself, have a context menu. This context menu has context-sensitive menu entries that you can use to call various Web Application Designer functions. You can, for example, use the context menu to save a Web item (for which you have specified properties by using the parameters) as a reusable Web item, call the properties dialog box for this Web item, copy the Web item and paste it into another Web template, or delete the Web item from the Web template.

How to create a plugin to open a pop up on right click (using context menu) of any link on any site and display the link url in the pop up

We are developing a Plugin with the specific purpose to display the URL to which any link redirect to on any website.
This URL should appear in the pop up when the user right clicks and selects the "show URL" option in the context menu.
Can some one please help us either to find such plugin (except firebug) or guide us how to develop such a plugin.

Photoshop cs5 not in "open with" context menu

I recently got version CS5 [12.1] of photoshop, installed 64 bit version of it. But the "open with " in right click context menu doesn't show photoshop among the listed programs. i tried reinstalling it but the problem is still there. Can anyone please help? I did 'Choose default pr ogram' and navigated to the Photoshop .exe for the 64bit version. (Default path is C:Program Files, Adobe.....) but photoshop doesn't come. nothing happens, the list of programs remains the same.

Do you see it if you click Choose default program..., then expand the Other Programs section?
If not, can you Browse to the Photoshop.exe file on your hard disk and add it?

Problem printing with Reader 10.1.6 using context menue.

After installing patch 10.1.6 some documents are not printing correct using the explorer context menue.
The Document contains a link like WWW.heise.de and is printing like X X X /I f jtf /ef
Open the Document and printing works fine.

Firefox hangs when opening any context menu - save as, download window, options window, etc

this is the third time i've had this problem with firefox...
firefox hangs when trying to download images, files, etc. the right click context menu opens (with bookmark, save page, save image, etc options) but after selecting an option, save image or whatever, the actual save as dialogue box doesn't open and firefox locks up.
many pages say to open the download pane and clear the history... i can't do that as trying to open the download pane locks it up, too. as does trying to open any other dialogues.
the first time this happened the only solution i could find was a total wipe and re-install (simple uninstall/re-install didn't work... it had to be weeded out of the registry manually).
the second time i just happened to be rebuilding my system, so i just did a fresh install on a fresh OS.
this time i can't seem to resolve the problem with uninstall and re-install...
help?

found out what was doing it!
after trying firefox safe mode and windows safe mode and any number of other things i'd kinda given up for a bit there, but i woke from a dream in the middle of the night thinking "based on the behaviour involved it *must* be something in the shell that's causing this." (sorry, i dream in geek.)
so i grabbed a shell viewer editor - ShelleExView (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html) (had to use an icky, lesser browser to be able to download it) and gave it a run.
i listed all the extensions by the date they were added as a clsid and tried to think back to when the problem began... about a month or so after a fresh system reinstall. and through a little trial and error disabling i found the culprit.
it was an icon overlay handler put in by something called WagerLogic. after looking into the company name i'm going to have to assume this was related to one of the annoying "come lose real money at our virtual casino" pop-ups that infest the net nefariously panning for an easy mark like dickensian orphans.
i disabled it et voila! firefox is back to full function again.

Right click on the mail list doesn't open the context menu any more.

Right click on email in list should open a drop down selection.
Usually a crossed line through something denotes that it is marked as deleted in an imap mail account.

See if there is a conflict with an addon.
Restart Thunderbird in safe mode.
Help > Restart with addons disabled.
then perform the same test; right click on email in list.
Do you get the drop down, if yes, then one of your addons is causing the conflict.
You would have to disbale each in turn to locate which one is the problem.
Maybe the addon needs updating.
Report back on results.

I have the same problem too. When i restarted with addons disablem problem dissapeared but when i switch to normal mode and disable all off the plugins and addons the problem still remains.
Please help.

Two "Adobe Reader" menu items in "Open with" context menu

Is there a simple remedy to the problem of multiple occurrences of "Adobe Reader" in the context menu?
That is, in the Finder, on Mac OS 10.6.8, I see two instances of "Adobe Reader" in the "Open with..." context menu...

thanks for the response! I would be happy to find the root cause of this issue (or at least find and remove the data in the facility called Launch Services.
I have no additional binaries of Adobe Reader on the disk. One only.
I think there is some crufty data somewhere, which Launch Services is reading and hence displaying the erroneous menu item.
I suspect the Adobe Reader installer is somehow responsible for this. This was a clean and newly built system disk.

Now, I tried resetting the "global Launch Services database".
I must restart Finder to see if this was successful. Until later...

Moving Images Inside of Stack (not using context menu)

I have not had success moving images around in an expanded stack using the drag-and-drop functionality of the mouse. When I do try to drag an image within the stack, I get an outline of an image but when I try to drop to a new location within the stack, nothing happens.
Using the context menu to re-order a bunch of images is impractical.
What am I doing wrong?

I don't believe you are doing anything wrong. It appears the only thing you can do by mouse to a expanded stack, besides close it to the stack, is click the white box with the, i.e. [4 of 10] to make that image the top image.

Different window opens from context menu Broadcaster ...

Hello Experts!
When I want to start the BEX Broadcaster via context menu (broadcast and export u2013 broadcast eMail ) in our development sytem the new screen that opens up is different than in our productive system.
In the development system I get a screen with header: Step 1 of 4: Determine Basic Settings
In productive System there is a screen with 4 tabs: Data Analysis, Graphical Display,Information and Information Broadcasting.
Why is the popup different and where can I make the setting?

This is a common issue.

Using context menu within a custom web part

Hello,
I'm fairly new to SharePoint and currently experimenting with some stuff.
Now I have a list with folders and documents and instead of the regular list view, I've created a custom (visual) web part that shows the list in a sort of tree.
In this tree I want to add a control for each document only that has the same appearance as the default context menu found in the standard list views.
The long term goal is to have a custom (visual) web part, that shows the hierarchical structure of the list and has a (on hover only) context menu for the documents.
I do have extended experience with ASP.Net, but I cannot find any resource to add the context menu (or one that looks, feels and behaves the same) at will at self defined location.
Note that by default these items don't have a context menu, so how to add it in the first place?
Your help would be greatly appreciated!

I would start by looking at the HTML/Javascript structure of the ECB menus (drop down menus on itmes) and see if you can replicate the HTML snippet in your custom control.

In the end I ended up using this method, unfortunately...
However the structure (read look-and-feel) is not identical to the ECB and more modern.
For example, all actions are icons aligned at the right of each row and appear while hovering over that one row.
It has been a lot of work to extract the Javascript from the ECB to get everything working, especially regarding deleting and adding items from/to a list.

Open With Context Menu acting up

It seems as if using Time machine allows old versions of applications to appear in the "open with" menu.
Is that sensible?
How can I turn it off?
I don't really want to mistakenly open files in old versions of applications....

Do you see it if you click Choose default program..., then expand the Other Programs section?
If not, can you Browse to the Photoshop.exe file on your hard disk and add it?

Can PhotoShop Elements 11 save Organizer Albums in a format PE Version 8 can open/use?

I haven't found much info on how the Organizer function in PhotoShop Elements has changed from version 8 to version 11. I've started scanning some photos into PSE8's Organizer, and it works well, but I'm considering moving up to version 11 before doing the bulk of the project. However, I'd like my sister to be able to use my old copy of version 8 to be able to deal with the albums I'm creating with Organizer, so I need to know whether version 11 can save its Organizer files/albums in a way that is backward-compatible with version 8.
Anybody know?

Thanks for the response. I suspect that you're right about the lack of backward compatibility - I didn't see anyting in the save/backup process that looked like it was giving any option to go backwards, and I would assume that trying to open a catalog with version 8 that was created/backed up by version 11 would not end well.
I suspect that the thumbnail creation issue was probably caused by the same setting that caused version 11 to copy all of my media files to a new location during the conversion process. I was trying to make sure version 11 didn't change or write anything to any locations where version 8 was located, and something I did or checked during the conversion process probably caused version 11 to basically start over fresh and have to create all new thumbnails. It wasn't that bad, and only happened that one time at the beginning - once it was done all the subsequent times I've opened version 11 have had the thumbnails there without delays.
The biggest time-negative thing I've found so far with 11 has been the time it takes to bring up a clear picture when double-clicking on a thumbnail - I get a full size image pretty quick, but it's blurry - then a few seconds later it finally gets focussed/sharper. I did just find a way to list the people tags down the right hand side like they were in 8 - they can't be right-clicked and added like in 8, but they can be dragged to the photo to add them so it's almost as good.
You mention bug fixes and stuff - is there anything that the version 11 organizer actually does better than the version 8 one (in terms of handling bigger image files, or a larger number of files without choking or other such performance/stability aspects)? I don't use Elements' editing functions (I use regular PhotoShop if I need to edit anything), and I don't use any of the web-sharing or other online aspects of the Organizer, so I'm just trying to compare how the two versions' Organizer works from a purely private, offline image scanning and cataloging perspective.
Also, the new interface with 11 seems to be eating up almost half of my screen (side to side) - it won't let me make the left hand pane (that shows album or folder view trees) nearly as narrow as it could/should be, and because the old version 8 properties box is now part of the right-hand pane/column in 11 instead of being separately placeable anywhere on the screen, I have to make the right-hand pane very wide to be able to see and type in all the file names, notes and captions, so there's very little room left in the middle for my actual pictures to be displayed. Are there some interface-changing options I'm missing to try to recapture some of that real estate for my photos to be shown?

i have adobe cs2 suite installed. that's why i have at least 20 different options to open image-files (jpgs, pngs, ...) with. where can i remove some options that i'll never need in my whole life!?

if found the com.apple.launchservices.plist file. when i open it with textmate the code doesn't look like i can just delete or add any entries ...
