Duplicate videos in a Folio, increase file size?

If I have, lets say, a video that plays on the cover and also within another article, does DPS know that they are duplicate videos and it only loads once?
Thanks

Funny you should ask. I was just looking at this issue myself. From what I can see, it does not know that they are duplicate. It loads them all as far as i can see. My vids are all in seperate folders in my structure. Maybe use a share folder for those vids?

Total book size is 2.0GB max. Length would be relative to size based on quality.

  • Help!..CS4 IS INCREASING FILE SIZES.

    Hi all
Wondered if anyone has had a problem with increased files sizes when opening a document up in Photoshop? Anything i open up is increased by two thirds  in file size and i've no idea why ( e.g..8MB doc opens as 24MB doc)
What is even more strange is that it won't let me reduce a  file size to anything under 1MB.
Has anyone ever come across this problem?...would appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    Bri

    Hey Noel
    Fair Play.
    This is what is happening.
I’ve got a standard JPEG file that viewed in Explorer and Bridge reads as a 2.70MB (2838,796 bytes) file. Pixel dimensions 797x1000. Document size  6.75 x 8.47cm .Res 300 PPI.
When I open it in CS4 it reads 2.28MB. (This is the first thing I don’t understand)
Either way my simple( so I thought ) objective is to decrease the file size.
In the image size box I have re-set the resolution to 72ppi as I just need to post the image on a Website. My before and after calculations in the image Panel reads (was 2.28MB...now 134.3k)
Great! .this is what I want, However..... when I ‘save as’ and the JPEG compression box appears it has suddenly increased the file to 1.8MB Large file...and only allows me to reduce it to 1.7MB small file.
Admittedly this is not my area of expertise....I’m doing something wrong so any pointers would be much appreciated.

  • Exporting video and keeping a reasonable file size

    Hi there,
I think I am posting in the correct section (Leopard Upgrade from Dec 07 - not upgraded iLife since so does that make it iMovie HD 6? (am away from the Mac right now)).
I enjoy using iMovie but one thing that bugs me is the Expert settings when exporting to a file.
For example I have a 30 minute video which I downloaded from a Mini DV camcorder. Now I have done the editing etc but when I go to export it I find that the defaults settings do not give me what I want (640x480 resolution and basic sound quality). So I use the expert settings and play around with them. So far I have placed the settings I want and exported as an .avi and a .mov, I forget which way around it was but one was about 4.5GB! and the other was 700Mb - it is a very simple video - not a lot of movement, its a video of an interview.
Now on a Windows machine I expect I could export to a .wmv and it would be great quality at under 100MB.
So, I ask the experts, where am I going wrong in not achieving a good video quality at a manageable file size? I know I could pay up and install the Flip4Mac Studio software but I am sure Apple have provided an equivalent solution that I have not found.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Jack

640x480 is a bit 'exotic' if your source is PAL ...
the smaller the res, the dramatic smaller is file size ..
try in the expert dialog h264 as codec, if you have low action, try 15 or 12fps, make audio mono..
you can downsize resulting file by playing around with the quality settings of h264 ..

  • Increase File Size

After converting CR2 Raw files to Jpeg the size of the files is too small. How if possible Can one increase file size in Elements 9? Thanks

Why on earth do you want to have "larger" files?
JPG uses compression to reduce the size of the resulting files.  If you're concerned about the picture quality because of JPG's lossy compression method, simply set the JPG "Quality" setting to its maximum.

  • Folio article file size increases massively with more buttons

    Hello,
we are about to finish up a DPS project and now have some serious problems with the folio sizes.
We did all the usual things to make folios smaller (cropped every image to the trimmed size, pdf articles, vektor overlays etc.)
So we made some tests and discovered a really strange behavior:
We have one single article with a fullscreen MSO containing 7 picture status, and seven buttons (with the same pictures as thumbnails) that lead to the appropriate statuses.
First we tried to experiment deleting images from the MSO but this had no effect on the file size. But as we deleted the seven buttons the file size changed from 10MB to 52MB!
The size of all the assets (images and ID file) from this article is only 12 MB.
Is this a known bug? Is there a way around it? It is some kind of crazy when an uploaded folio has 4 times the size as all his assets?!?!
    Thanks in advance,
    nils

    Hi Bob,
    sorry for my late reply.
I have done some additional testing and came to the conclusion that no button is responsible for the big file sizes.
It was the overlay setting after all (sorry for pointing in the wrong direction). As I switched the slideshow from "Raster" to "Vector" the file size decreased plenty. (I thougt I checked this but actually I did it only in vertical articles.)
However I did not know that the export format has such an impact on file size. This one article decreased from 52 MB to 17 MB. And it was only one slideshow with 7 (retina) images inside.
Changing all the slideshows in our 50 article folio (about 35) decreased the file size from 576 MB to 243 MB!
    Thanks,

  • "Convert Selection for iPod" Command Increases File Size?

    Hello!
I'm trying to convert a file that has the following characteristics (as reported in Quicktime Pro):
    Format: H.264 Decoder, 496 x 208, Millions, AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
    FPS: 25
    Data Size: 572.20 MB
    Data Rate: 659.18 kbits/sec
    Normal Size: 496 x 208
I know the dimensions are strange, but it's because this is just a test I'm running on a workflow using Hand Brake to bring content back from a DVD (my content).
Now, when I drop just the original file into iTunes and then try to put it on an iPod, it says it can't be played. So I use the handy new option in the Advanced menu, "Convert Selection for iPod." This yields a new file with the following characteristics:
    Format: AAC, Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz, H.264 Decoder, 640 x 268, Millions
    FPS: 25
    Data Size: 1.36GB
    Data Rate: 1609.01 kbits/sec
    Normal Size: 640 x 268
How is it that the data rate and file size have increased so much? It now plays on an iPod, but why? I was under the impression that usually the problem with getting video to play on an iPod was a data rate that is too high. So it seems strange to me that the second file works and the first doesn't.
Finally, what is the difference between a file with the extension .mov and the extension .m4v? The original file has .mov and the converted ends up with .m4v. But they have the same characteristics in terms of codec. So what's the difference?
Thanks for any help and info!
    Cameron

I think I was able to resolve this myself after some trial and error. It looks like it is all in the name of the file. I've gotten some files to transfer after going into the Get Info section and updating the name (usually shorten the name or take out non-letter/number/# characters and then get the filename on disk to match.

  • Acrobat 7.0.9: Optimizing PDF increases file size?

Audit Space Usage in the Optimize dialog shows "Color Spaces" ballooning from 0.8 MB to 22 MB when a PDF is optimized (goes from 3% of the file size to 58%). File size increases from 23.8 MB to 35.6 MB.
What exactly is happening, and how can I fix it?
    Thanks for any info.

    Hey, Jon
    Interesting...
Original file (300 dpi CMYK images) 23.8 MB
    Images 19 MB
    Color Spaces 0.8 MB
Optimize with flattening (72 dpi images, low quality) 68.7 MB
    Images 49 MB
    Color Spaces 18 MB
Optimize without flattening (72 dpi images, low quality) 68.2 MB
    Images 48 MB
    Color Spaces 18 MB
Not sure why color spaces are down to 18 MB from 22 MB, I used a preset that I THOUGHT was the same one I used yesterday. Regardless, it's bizarre that both images and color spaces are getting huge when optimized.
I used Create PDF from Multiple Files to bring in a bunch of pages, but I'm reasonably sure that all those files were already flattened before I brought them in.
I'll file that transparency tip for next time though, you never know when it might come up.
    Thanks.

  • BUG: "Save and compact" increases file size by 1KB each time?

    Flash CS4
I noticed that when I do "save and compact" on a .fla file, it causes the file size to increase by 1KB each time--even when no changes were made.  Can this be fixed?

Yup. It works perfectly in CS3. Now the problem you will have is that you don't have CS3 installed. Even if you will save your files as CS3 format, you cannot (as far as i know) "save and compact" it as CS3, it will prompt that it must be converted from older version CS3 to CS4 and you end up with the same problem. Perhaps there is a setting to force CS4 to save and compact in CS3 version but i doubt it. The only way i know to solve it is save the file as CS3 format (But you will lose some XMP file info metadata, i'm not sure if that is necessary though) then close CS4, and open CS3 then "save and compact" it there. This is definitely a bug where some information might have been duplicated in the file's info or history. If you are lucky an adobe employee might be able to give you a solution to this or just confirm this bug.

  • PDF annotation(comments) in acrobat increase file size rather than reader

    Hi,

    Hi MohamedFaisal,
I am not sure, if i understood you correctly. The file size grows big in Acrobat and when the same file is opened in Reader the size is less?
Also, please help us with the details mentioned below
    1) Exact version of Acrobat being used
    2) Exact version of Adobe Reader being used
    3) Size difference, when opened in Acrobat Vs When opened in Reader.

  • Adding Bates numbers to PDFs increases file size by 10x - How to keep original size?

I have a lot of email texts that I converted from Word to PDF and then Bates numbered.
However, Bates numbering made each email's file size go from about 50kb to 500kb.
Once I combine these larger files for uploading to a docket, at the maximum allowable file size is 4 Mb, I can put together only 8-10 emails at a time.  What to do to keep the original file size small when Bates numbering?

    Hi paulu40695891,
Yes, there is a significant increase in the file size when one applies bates numbering to the pdf and saves it.
A workaround for this issue would be to save the pdf file again as reduced size pdf. (File -> Save as other -> Reduced Size PDF. )
Does that helps with your issue? Please revert back for any further query or assistance.

  • IPhoto duplicates/messed up import? Different file sizes?

After transferring photos from our old Mac to the iMac, there are now many duplicate photos that I'd like to clear out. (My partner did the transfer, so I can't tell you the specifics of what went wrong). There are numerous events titled Original and a second event of the same photos, although there may be more photos in the second event due to created duplicates that have been modified. Comparing the two events, the photo file sizes are smaller in the original set than in the second set. Why is that? For otherwise identical photos, which should I delete?
And is there any reason not to open iPhoto from the dock and delete duplicates?

(My partner did the transfer, so I can't tell you the specifics of what went wrong).
I can tell you what they did wrong - they Imported your old iPhoto library into the new one - NEVER import an iPhoto library into another iPhoto library - it does not work, created massive duplication and an unusable mess
You can use iPhoto and delete duplicates (do it in batches of 100 or less emptying the iPhoto trash and system trash every batch)
The better solution is to go back and do it correctly - If the old Mac is still available and working  trash the bad iPhoto library on the new system and Connect the two Macs together (network, firewire target mode, etc)  or use an external hard drive formed Mac OS extended (journaled) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac and it will open the library and convert it as needed and you will be ready move forward.

  • PDF Optimizer decreases resolution, increases file size

I've noticed that the file size of my PDF files INCREASES now when I optimize them now that I've updated to version 7.0.7. The image resolution still decreases but the files increase significantly. For example, I have a 2 page document that originally was 3.2mb as a hi-resolution PDF. After I optimized it down to 72dpi for the images the file increased to 20.5mb!! I use this feature for documents that we publish on our web sites or to send a proof to a customer.
Is this just a new bug in version 7.0.7?

    MAC G5, 1 gb RAM, OS 10.4
    Indesign CS3
Acrobat version : at least 7.0.6 or newer (I'm not at work to verify the version)
I'm having the same problem. Doing a SAVE AS does not fix anything.
I have created a High Res PDF of a 56 page catalogue using Indesign CS3. I had to divide the document into two sections. The first file is 131 megs and the other 78 megs. I have to print high res for the client. Then I need to downsize the resolution so that I can send the catalogue to the client. Whether I choose PDF Optimizer or Reduce file..., the 131 megs PDF became 1.27 GB and not to mention the time wasted! This is enormous! I assure you that I have checked all settings for the PDF.
To counter the problem, I have to do a SAVE AS POSCRIPT file. Then I reduce the size using Acrobat Distiller. The 131 megs file then became 21 megs, which is what it should have been with Optimizer.
I don't understand what's happening with the Optimizer? It seems that there's an update version that has installed this bug. Which one? How to fix this problem? Is there anyone on this earth that knows what to do?

  • QT X conversion increases file size

Now this maybe something that all versions of QT did but I never used QT before for converting movies as it took so **** long,I always used Visualhub.
I thought I'd give QT X a try and the speed seems to have improved but it increased the file size to almost double using the iphone optimization.
Space on an iphone/ipod is at a premium and they go and engineer a conversion that doubles the file size.
What is the point of that?
If I do the same conversion using VisualHub the file size stays the same.
Surely apple can do better than that

Here is the reply that I could swear I saw in this thread yesterday. It seems to have disappeared somehow...
    MacRicco wrote:
LZW compression does not work on 16 bit TIFFs, it was never intended for this format. The TIFF format started out as 8 bit only together with LZW.
Basically all image compression exploits sequences of equal pixels. The chances of two pixels being equal goes to zero when increasing the resolution. After that you only add the overhead of the bookkeeping tables of the compression itself.
