Duplicated events on iCal after .mac sync

Thre facts:
I have a TREO600, a desktop mac, and a powerbook, both running Tiger 10.4.4.
Due to some other problems with syncing the TREO, I have purchased the Missing Sync from MarkSpace, and that works very well to sync the palm with the desktop.
I started syncing my two computers with .mac lately, and I have nothing but trouble. Nearly every sync throws up some conflicts, often about events that have long passed. I went through the long list of conflicts EVERY time this happens, but iSync seems to complain about new conflict nearly everytime I sync.
Moreover, it seems to duplicate certain (but not all) events on my iCal after it has synced with .mac.
This is super annoying. I have seen that there are many different posts on duplication already, but none of them seem to match my problem, though there definetly seems to be a general problem with iSync not being very good at checking for duplicates.
Any ideas how to solve this?
thanks,
marc

Because you are running the Missing Sync for Palm OS in a Mac OS X 10.4 or later environment, the synchronization of your data is a separate process controlled by .Mac Sync. In order to correct the issue, you should perform a reset, replacing all of the records on .Mac with the records from iCal and the Address Book, which should, incidently, be contemporaneous with your Treo 600 smartphone.
To do that, launch System Preferences and select the .Mac pane. Press the Advanced tab, then the Reset Sync Data… button in the lower left corner of the dialog box. Reserve the default directional data transfer from .Mac to your machine by pressing the right-facing arrow beneath the .Mac icon. This will shift directional flow so that data moves from your computer to the .Mac servers. You can keep the Replace: All Sync Data value in the drop-down menu above, or choose to synchronize only one data type [Calendars or Contacts] by selecting the appropriate value. If you synchronize them separately, you must repeat this process for the other data type.
This event will transfer a complete set of records from iCal and the Address Book to the appropriate storage locations on the .Mac servers, replacing the non-matching data currently stored there. It will not affect your continued use of the Mark/Space Contacts, Events and Tasks menu, and will not change the data stored on your handheld the next time you synchronize.

  • Duplicated events on iCal after moving to iCloud

Hi, i just updated mi iphone 4 to iOS5, then updated iTunes, then updated OSX Lion to 10.7.2, then moved to icloud...
Everything seems to be ok, but there's a problem: my events duplicated on iCal in my macbookpro...
    Every input has cloned itself!
But, when checking on icloud and on my iphone, no duplicates!
So... what should i do?, 'cause if i delete a duplicated event from iCal in my computer, leaving only one, the event erases at all in iCloud and in my iPhone...
    Weird.
    Any suggestions?
I appreciate your time, thank you!

Hi Jorge. I just went through this entire process. I was able to rid myself of duplicates, however, I am still trying to figure out how to match a hard copy to my Mac without creating duplicates.
    - Make sure you have your events on the Mac
    - Go to iCloud on phone and turn off iCloud on everything (for now). It will tell you it will delete everything off iCloud (this is fine if you have everything you need on your Mac).
    - Go into iTunes on Mac and "turn of Sync with this iPhone over Wi-fi" & check "back up to this computer"
-Go to info tab in iTunes on Mac. Check sync "contacts" & sync "calendars"
    - While you are in the info tab also check "calendars" & "contacts" in the Replace Information on This iPhone section under Advanced.
    - Synch
    - If everything matches up properly go back to iPhone and turn iCloud back on for what you want
    - Go to iCal on Mac and in the top left hand corner there is a "calendar" button that when you click it, it shows calendars for "On my Mac" and "iCloud".
    - You can delete the "On my Mac" calendars to rid yourself of the duplicates.
***This is how I did it. You may be able to just delete the "On my Mac" calendars but I am not sure if that will take them off of iCloud and your iPhone. You can give it a try first as it may be less time consuming.
So, my issue is still trying to figure out how to keep matching calendars as a backup on Mac without the duplicates. Any takers?

  • Ical after .mac sync how to combine calendars

For some reason I got duplicate calendars (for example 2 work calendars) after syncing with my desktop and my laptop. So my laptop ical has 2 work calendars with different items on them (still related to work) and one of them has older material which might have been on .mac anyway. Is there a way I can merge two calendars together to make one (both calendars in same category like work). thanks, kate

katefu, try the export and import approach on this thread, it worked perfectly for me, and then I just deleted the originally exported calendar.

  • HT1296 If I have never connected my iPad to my computer, will I lose events in iCal when I sync things?

If I have never connected my iPad to my computer, will I lose events in iCal when I sync things?

Since you have never plugged the iPad into your computer's iTunes yet - you are syncing to a "new" computer so .... Yes you will lose the music if you sync it with iTunes before making this your syncing computer.
But ..... You can transfer all of the iPad content into iTunes and that will make the iTunes library your new syncing library. Just follow all of the steps in this user tip and you will be OK. Then you will be able sync without losing anything.

  • ICal events changing duration and start time after .Mac sync

I sync two OS X Tiger computers (10.4.2) using .Mac to keep my iCal calendars in order. Certain events following a certain date are mutating with longer durations and different start times after syncing between the two computers.
    Anyone experiencing the same problem?
    Any ideas?

    Two different problems here:
    Try one at a time:
Quit iCal. Delete iCal preferences in your User Library: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist ( you'll have to reset iCal prefs after)
For those having problems with .Mac sync, reset the sync System Preferences/ .Mac/ Advanced tab.
    Come back with results

  • Duplicated events on iCal, and even more on iPod calendar

I am using the latest version of Mac OS X Lion and an iPod Touch 2G with the latest compatible iOS update (4.2.1)
I gave iCloud a try, but after syncing with my iPod, I wouldn't be able to create or edit events in my iCloud calendars (which were previously the "On My Mac" Calendars)
I decided to stop syncing iCal with iCloud so that I would be using "On My Mac" calendars that could be modified on my iPod.
I exported each calendar. Stopped syncing with iCloud (which deletes those calendars from my mac) and then imported them within new calendars that were named and organized as I previously had.
However, I started seeing duplicate or multiple event entries on my Mac and on the iPod Touch.
I tried to delete the duplicates from the Mac, and some of them delete, some don't.
It is weird because I have duplicates of the Address Book Birthday calendar too, which shouldn't have duplicated events that cannot be deleted.
Another thing that happens is that in iCal there are events that appear correctly, just one time. But checking on my iPod, I see the same event 7 times!
Please, somebody help and guide me. I am a heavy user of the calendar on both devices and need a fix soon.
    Thanks!

I have the exact same problem.
    Can't figure it out.
It is very annoying and time consuming deleting the duplicate items.

  • Mail not sending Event to iCal after upgrade

I did the same as everyone else and upgraded as soon as I saw the message to upgrade mobileme ical. Now when I try to create an event in iCal using a date in an email after clicking on "Add To iCal" the popup just freezes. I've quited and rebooted Mail as well as iCal and no luck.
Anyone else have this issue? Better yet, did anyone else find out how to fix it?
With 4 boys I rely on that convenience big time!
    Maria

The general approach at this time is to ask if you've checked for any problematic fonts (all languages) with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Find and remove all duplicates also.
Start there to be sure all fonts that are in play come out with a clean bill of health.
Don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
By all means be sure any 3rd party apps AND plug-ins are Snow Leopard compatible.
An additional measure is to clear the existing font caches:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/139383/2009/03/fontcacheclear.html
That said, 10.6.2 release notes have this to say about fonts:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3874
    Fonts fixes provided for:
    • an issue with font spacing
    • an issue in which some Fonts are missing
    • font duplication issues
    • an issue with some PostScript Type 1 fonts not working properly
    Good luck in any case.

  • Dock automatically removes icons after .mac sync

After a recent .mac sync My dock idems were changed. Then when I add an icon it disappears within seconds. I unchecked the sync Dock re-synced then it did it again. I have signed out of .mac and signed back in still wont let me add anything. Has anybody else had this problem.

It was a .mac syncing problem. If you sync your dock with another mac, it will allow you to review changes if you delete the icon .mac wont let you put it back on the dock. I changed it on my other mac synced it then synced my second mac, and allowed the changes and no problems since then. Hope this helps somebody.

  • Losing events on iCal after syncing

    Hello.
I'm having some really frustrating problems with my iCal events. I keep losing them after syncing my iPhone to iCal on my iMac. If I put a date into my iPhone and later sync it to my computer, sometimes it works. However, after other subsequent syncs, I end up losing quite a few events. I have no idea why. I have my settings in iTunes to automatically sync when I plug in my iPhone. Aren't I supposed to be able to add events via my iPhone and have them sync properly to my computer and vice versa? Is something wrong with my settings? Please help! Thank you!

I am having similar problems and no one at Apple seems to be able to help. When my calendars sync, they change the time of the appts. It is driving me nuts as I rely on my calendar for work appts. It doesn't seem to matter where I enter the appt, Iphone or on Mac, they are still changed. I've missed appts because of this.

  • Events in iCal on Mac Mini don't upload to MobileMe during Sync

I have many iCal events on my Mac Mini, running OSX 10.6.8, that don't sync up to my MobileMe iCal and thus don't sync back down to my MacBook Pro, also running OSX 10.6.8, nor to my iPhone. As a result, I'm not getting notified of events that I should be. This is a real problem when I'm away from home. However, an event I just posted today on my Mac Mini did sync up. What is going on here?

    Greetings,
This sounds like a caching issue.
    1. First make an iCal backup:  Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal 1 at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
    2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
    Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
---NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
    3. Launch iCal and test.
    Hope that helps!

  • ICal crashes on startup after .mac sync

iCal now crashes upon startup. I tried to sync using .mac. During the sync process with .mac, iCal unexpectedly quit in the background. Now, each time I start up iCal, it crashes about 5 seconds after launching. I notice that each time I try to restart it, there are about 5 more colorful calendars all unnamed, on the left side of the window. Coincidentally, I have 5 calendars that I have created, all named of course. Each time I start, there are 5 additional unnamed calendars. I tried clicking on one of these calendars quickly before iCal crashed. I can actually delete one calendar after the other without iCal crashing for a period of time longer than 5 seconds. As long as I continue to delete these automatically formed, unnamed calendars, iCal will not crash. Once I am done deleting them, 5 seconds later, iCal will crash.
    Any advice is appreciated.

By quickly setting my preferences to NOT synchronize calendar with other computers using .mac before it could crash, which took about 5 tries, and then deleting all of the new mailboxes that it automatically created AND deleting all existing mailboxes, I was able to prevent iCal from crashing.
In order to transfer my calendars from my dual G5 to my MacBook Pro, I had to export the calendars from my G5, transfer them via the wireless network, and then import them.
Unless someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, I'm no longer going to attempt to synchronize my calendar via .mac.

  • Older Events in iCal on Mac but not in Mobile Devices

iCal on my Mac has appointments dating back to 2006, while iCal in the cloud and on my iPad and iPhone has appointments only as far back as last year 2011. iCloud is working fine, i.e., everything synchs up quickly and easily as it's supposed to.  I'd just like to get the additional five years worth of data on to my mobile devices. How do I do that without screwing everything up?? Thanks in advance!

Called Apple fast track support and problem is resolved. User error, for some reason I had selected the wrong calendar - after selecting the proper calendar on the left sidebar I could create events. Apparently at some time I created a 'todo' mailbox. It had nothing in it and I ended up deleting it so it doesn't get selected again in error.
Took 15 minutes to connect with an ICAL specialist. Once connected received excellent support.

  • Events from iCal changes when synced with phone :-((

Hi! I've just bought a bluetooth adapter so I can sync my phone with ical. I'm convinced this will bring me one step closer to a digital synchronized heaven, but (of course) I encountered a problem:
When I have added an event to my phone (Sony Ericsson T610) and syncs the calendar with my laptop (iBook G4 933 MHz), the event is "postponed" by two hours. For example: I have an appointment with - say - Pamela Anderson from 12:00 to 15:00 which I add to my phone. When syncing with iCal, the event has changed to 14:00-17:00.
When I add the event to my laptop first, and then syncs it with the phone - the time of the event is set two hours earlier . To take my great example again, the event would then appear to be from 10:00-13:00.
I've gone through all preferences etc. I can find in both iCal, iSync and on the phone. I've found no help online either... Does anyone have a clue? If so, please give me a hint on what to do, I would be immensely grateful!

I was convinced that my time zone was GMT, but when I checked it was GMT +2 hrs, which solved my problem! Thank you so much Julian for helping me solve this, I cant wait to start a synced life

  • ICal Alarms & .mac sync

I'm using .mac to keep my calendars on my desktop mac and my powerbook in sync. I've got a calendar in iCal made up entirely of events with email alarms. I'd prefer that only my desktop mac send out the email reminders, and was wondering if anybody had a clever idea how to go about this....
    * I've tried to see if I could not sync the "reminder" calendar to my powerbook, but haven't been successful at finding a way to choose which calendars I want sync'ed.
    * I've tried to see if there was a way to entirely disable reminders on my powerbook (not just when iCal isn't running), also unsuccessful.
Does anybody know if either of these things are possible, or have any other ideas how I might do this?
    Thanks!
    - greg

This won't work if you need to sync both ways but a possibility is to publish from desktop and subscribe from laptop. You can choose not to publish alarms when publishing calendars.
Too bad this wasn't an option with under isync as it certainly makes sense. This is clearly something to send Apple iCal Feedback. And, unfortunately you can't sync just some calendars (another Feedback/Suggestion)

  • Duplicate iPhone events keep returning after numerous syncs

I made the mistake of trying to sync my iPhone calendar and contacts with my laptop via iCloud. It didn't work properly and I reversed it. However, since then when I sync my phone with my desktop via iTunes, all my calendar events prior to the end of the iCloud sync are duplicated. I've used iTunes to wipe the phone calendar then attempted to replace all calendar info on my phone with iCal on my desktop as per the Advanced sync in iTunes. The dupes return. Also, new contact entries from Address Book aren't transferring to my phone and the sync is very slow. Any ideas?

Very Common problem. I'm assuming you also own a iPhone or iPad, and are syncing it to MobileMe. It's happened to me several times, and I fixed it by doing the following. Assuming you are syncing devices with MobileMe, Mount your portables in iTunes. Select Device in left column. Select Info Tab. Deselect Sync Address, and ICal Calendars. Close up and wait for next sync. Your second group should disappear. Hope this works for you.
