Duplicated media files

Hi Guys,
My wife has 620, and she loves it, but she has one major gripe with it. Any song or video transfered to the phone gets duplicated, sometimes even more copies are created. I tried all sorts of the stuff from the internet to sort it out, but no joy so far. Is there any official fix coming from Nokia or MS? I'll list what did not work so far:
- syncing the songs via WP app
- syncing via Media Player
- copying the files using explorer
- using different SD cards
- copying the stuff directly to the phone's memory
- changing the sync options in the media player
- deleting all media files and syncing them in different ways again
- restoring the factory settings
- performing black morris at midnight for a week - I really ran out of ideas
I have checked MS forums, they say the issue was fixed in an update, but I can say that it is not fixed. So if you have any other tricks up in your sleeve please let me, and other users know.
Thanks

Hi DrDoom666,
Welcome to the forum!
We suggest trying to recover the phone's software using the Nokia Software Recovery tool. Please check this link for more information about this PC application: Nokia Software Recovery Tool
Since this step erases all phone data, best to create a backup first to avoid data loss. Here's how: Backing up your stuff
Let us know how it will go.

  • "Here is a media file that can be deleted. Can it?" –

Or: managing media files across multiple projects.
Here is what happens in our workflow:
We do a lot of shows for one specific customer. Each program is a project. Usually a bunch of tapes is shot and then edited. So far, the project stands for itself.
Now, it happens that weeks or months later some other editor wants to use footage from that that project in his own. So he opens up the old project and then copy-pastes some clips into his sequence.
Again some time later, it's my job to free up some space on our RAID. So naturally starting from the oldest projects, I use the media manager to backup the final sequences and maybe some other clips that might still be useful. I save the consolidated project along with its media.
The I go to the original project and delete the original media files using the "make offline" command.
And this is where I unknowingly destroy the newer project my colleague has created. Bad thing.
To make a long story short: is there a way of keeping track of all links that point to a given media file from a number of given FCP *.proj projects? Can Final Cut Server handle this problem?
I know I could just start by archiving the newest projects first – but then it's not "archiving" since the newer projects might still be worked on.
Anyone out there with the same problem - or even a solution?
    Manuel
(from Munich, Germany - so please cut me some slack concerning my English)

Thanks for the helpful hints so far, although they are just work arounds, in my opinion.
In everyday life it will be hard to prevent editors from doing what they have been doing all the time. And duplicating media files is not a good replacement for a site-wide media management really.
I would like to see someone write an application where you drop your *.proj files. The app then lists all media files that are referenced by more than one project and temporarily locks them in the file system. This would be the perfect purpose for FCSvr and a strong motivation for us to install it since all its other features wouldn't really leverage our editing process.
As I remember, even in those old days of Avid Media Composer you were able to lock bins and sequences, and the media tool then saved you from deleting those clips that were still in use.
At least it seems that there is not something that I might have overlooked in FCP and that would be the "perfect solution to our problem".
So all we can do is to hope for Final Cut Studio 3 or the next version of FCSvr.

  • ITunes Consolidation: Will it create duplicates of media files if they already exist in the new itunes destination folder but arent being referenced by the itunes library?

I have a macbook pro from fall 2010. I have been using my external HD as my primary itunes folder for the past 7 yrs ( i.e it is organized by itunes default categorization, etc). However, there is some overlap between my external HD itunes folder and my comps original itunes folder (probably 20-30% of my current library's media files were already duplicated there from when i first bought the HD and transferred files to the external, however they are mostly referenced from the external now). Also there are files in the comp's itunes folder that are not on my external (probably due to organizational mishaps and podcast downloads when not connected to the external, etc). I do not know how many files this is the case for.
Recently, i decided that i wanted to consolidate all of my itunes music into one concise folder on my macbook's HD to avoid these issues going forward.  I also just bought a new external which i will use to back up my comp's itunes folder once i consolidate everything to the comp. But i plan on using the itunes folder on the comp going forward or at least using the consolidate fcn to avoid these issues.
Here is my dilemma. Prior to learning of the consolidate feature today, I changed the default itunes folder in settings to the original itunes folder on the macbook and then manually dragged all of the media files from my external itunes folder to the macbook's itunes folder. There were a ton of duplicates or overlapping folders with similar artist names, so i opted to have them merge all folders where possible. After doing this, i realized the itunes library still references these files that i dragged and dropped from the external since that is where my default itunes folder used to be. At that point i then read and learned of the consolidate itunes feature which seems like the best way to do this. But i am afraid that if i consolidate my library to my macbook's itunes folder now, will it create duplicates of the 4000 + media files i just dragged to the macbook's itunes folder which are already in the itunes library but being referenced from the old external??
Question: Is there a way that i can make these files i just dragged to the macbook's itunes folder become the ones referenced by the itunes library through the consolidate feature without creating duplicates of these 4000+ files? I want to avoid having  three copies of these files (two duplicates in the itunes and the originals on the external). Furthermore, is there a best way to find out which files in the macbook's itunes folder are not being included in the library after consolidating everything to the computer's HD? Then after that, what is the best way to start backing this all up to my new external, so that this overlapping issue doesnt happen again?  Im assuming i just need to make sure to consolidate first when changing itunes folders going forward. Thank you. I know that was a lot  to read but hopefully someone can help with this issue.

    In general:
    - The best way to check if files are in a library is to drag the whole media folder to the library.  If something was missed it will be added.  If it is in the library is won't be added a second time.
    - If you have a second copy of a file and iTunes does not currently list that specific file in its database then even if it is identical to one already in the database it will add it a second time.  So if you have file xyz on the internal drive and the external drive and add them to iTunes you will end up with two entries for the same thing in iTunes because you really do have to copies of the files.  While this can happen with two copies on a single drive, it will almost definitely be the case when you have a copy of a file on two drives because iTunes really sees them as two different things.
-Unless you know how iTunes works, avoid moving files yourself.  Let the consolidate feature do all the file moving.  Manually moving files can really mess up iTunes unless you know what you are doing and have iTunes set to not try to do it itself.
    - There's no clean and easy way to delete duplicates.  The best thing is to change practice so you don't create them.   Here are  references:

  • Downloads fail to operate i can't save or view any downloaded media files

I can not save or view any form of media from any website. The 'download window' will initiate and indicate the file is being/has been downloaded but nothing happens ie it does not get saved in the designated folder or the media players all report a failure and won't play. I am able to download all media files in IE7 . I am also having trouble with .rtf files sent via e-mails s not being read by MS office 2010 (may be a separate issue) but other file formats like .doc and .xls files open correctly.

If the files really get downloaded something must be removing them. Perhaps some security programs like anti virus or spy-ware removal tools are in action here?!
If the players reports failure and won't play please take a note of what they report caused the failure.
About the .rtf files sent via e-mail not read by MS Office 2010, can they be opened with some other viewer like Wordpad?

  • Is there a better way to re-render audio waveforms (after changing media files)?

I'm shooting documentary footage on RED cameras at 6K resolution.  That generates a large amount of media.  The RDC format records R3D media files in 4GB chunks, which is actually relatively short compared to my hours-long media captures.  I've discovered that it's very handy to simply delete the R3D files from the RDC folder in cases where nothing is actually happening at that moment.  Since each R3D media file is timecode stamped, these actually stay in sync with my master audio track.  And Premiere Pro sensibly places gray diagonal bars where the underlying R3D files are missing.  All good.
What's not good is that Premiere Pro confuses itself about the starting point of the PEK files.  Instead of simply greying out the part of the audio waveforms that are missing due to the missing media, it shifts the *waveform* to start at the location of the first R3D clip that is present, which is wrong.  If I clean the cache, quit the project, restart the project, and let it rebuild the cache, the audio waveform is correctly drawn.
An ideal fix for this problem would be for Premiere Pro to recognize that if it re-links media it should re-render the audio PEK file.  An OK work-around would be to make it easy to just re-render the PEK file for a given media clip.

A slightly quicker way to do what you described for an images is to select 'Duplicate version' instead of 'New version from Master' and then 'Remove adjustments' from version 1. This will leave you with the first version as the 'before' and the second version as the 'after' without having to use L&S.
If you need to do this for 108 images, it might be quicker to do the following:
Export Masters for all 108 images.
Reimport these into a new project (called 'before', for example)
You will then have a new project with the 'before' images and your original project with the 'after' images. You could then build an album to group all of these together. When you've finished with the 'before' & 'after' images (build your web gallery or emailed them or whatever), simply delete the 'before' project.

  • How to delete duplicated m4a file in "Recently Added" List in iTues?

I followed the instructions given by WICLEE and managed to customize my Ringtone but I couldn't delete the duplicated m4a file (after created a AAC file) from the Recently Added list where i selected the music for downloading. However, i managed to delete the m4a file from Windows Explorer and uncheck the deuplicated file when i sync onto my iPhone5 as a new Ringtone, it worked.  Can Wiclee advise how to delete the unwanted m4a file from the list?  Thanks much.

It will disappear from the Recently added playlist after 2 weeks.
Or you can edit the Recently added playlist to include ONLY music.

  • Time machine on external drive will not back up itunes media file on a separate external drive. Have already reformated itunes media drive, dragged itunes media backup file from time machine (old copy) and removed time machine plist and restarted.

Two external drives, one for time machine backups and a second (daisy chained firewire) for itunes media folder . Time machine fails to backup the media file saying could not be completed, with no error specified. Steps taken already include reformating drive with media, dragging older media backup file from time machine disc to media disc, and deleting time machine plist and starting time macine preferences upon startup. Media folder is approx 200 gb, mostly ripped dvd movies.
    Any help for this??
    Thanks

  • Payment media file not saved on the local PC in FBPM

    Dear all,
In transaction FBPM, if I choose the option ouput to the file system and point out the path to the folder where the file to be generated on my local PC, by the running of the transaction I am getting the following error:
BFIBL02182 - The file XXXXXXXXX cannot be opened.
If I want to download the payment media file I have to download it manualy.
I don't have some access limitation on my computer.
For this error I found the following explanation in teh forums: The error message BFIBL02182 normally is showing because the directory that was used when starting the payment media program (for example, in background processing), cannot be read online. You should therefore choose a directory that can be written to and read by different machines.
    Acctually I don't understand this.
I would like the system to download the file automatically by the running of the transaction.
Please could help, what I have to do, ? How to check if the chosen by me dirictory is possible to be read online?
Thanks in advance for the help?

    Hi,
Please validate the Payment medium: Selection Variant in T-Code: OBPM4 and then search the variant in T-Code FBPM, for the relevant Payment Medium Format, type the File Name something like this: C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\Payment
    Save
After the payment run is completed. You need to go to Menu in F110 screen and select Environment-> Payment Media->DME Administration, select the line and click Export button and select Download.
This is the only way you can download when the presentaion server is used.
    Hope this helps....
    Thanks,
    Ashok

  • Problem in accessing the media files from another server

Currently I am working in a project with streaming video on demand and using FMS 4.5.
Let’s say the FMS is installed on one machine say ‘121.123.35.34’ and there is another server ‘100.54.88.222’ where all the media files belong. Now we need to point to this third server to play videos from FMS.I have done the below changes:
    In the fms.ini file: set the VOD_DIR2 = \\100.54.88.222\myvideos
In the application.xml: Added the stream: <Streams>/hr;${VOD_DIR2}</Streams>
From my application accessing the path of flv as:source= “rtmp:// 121.123.35.34:1935/vod/hr/test” . Not able to access the video.
Note: If I will point to say ‘C:hrvideos’ in VOD_DIR2, then I am able to access the videos using the same URL.
I also tried mapping the shared path to the FMS machine and then given the mapped drive path in the VOD_DIR2, but this also doesn’t work.
    Please let me know:
If we need to configure any other parameter to stream videos from another server.
VOD_COMMON_DIR: I modified this similar TO VOD_DIR to location 'C:hrvideos', I am able to stream the videos using rtmp, but not abl eto stream with http.
Please let me know  can we stream using http also as we need this to run f4m manifest file.
              http://121.123.35.34:8134/vod/hr/sample.mp4.
              http://121.123.35.34:8134/vod/hr/sample.f4m
    Thanks,
    Anjali

    Hi Shiven,
I followed the steps suggested by you:
    1) Changed the stream:
    <Streams>/hr;${VOD_DIR2}</Streams> to<Streams>/;${VOD_DIR2}</Streams>
But not able to access the video with rtmp:// 121.123.35.34:1935/vod/test
    2) For http streaming, changes the HttpStreamingContentPath in hds-vod in the httpd config file, and tried to stream the video like:
    http:// 121.123.35.34:8134/vod/test.mp4 or
    http:// 121.123.35.34:8134/hds-vod/test.mp4
But not able to load the video.
    Please suggest?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anjali Rawat

  • Testing - JMF compatible media files

A number of people have asked after media files to check JMF based media projects.
Here is a small selection of videos that have all been tested and seen to run in the Performance Pack version of JMStudio. At the moment it includes 2 MOVs and 2 MPEGs. None of them have a soundtrack - it is just video.
    Notes:
These animations are provided for software testing only. They are not available for redistribution, or any other use, without the author's written permission.
The raw video files were wrapped up as Zip files in order to prevent automatic conversion to another format (for which I have no player on this machine - and which is sure not 'JMF compatible').
If anybody knows a file upload site that will not mess with the file types, and better still, will provide a constant and direct URL (no 'click thru' rubbish) where it can even be pulled direct by a Java app., let me know.
    Edit 1:
Added '10 dukes' - up for whoever can provide the first link to a 'file site' as described above.

    Avi's and mpg's are pretty safe.  Wmv's and .mov's won't sync.

  • Java FX Media file not available in JAR

When I package my Swing/Java FX application with Maven (one-jar-plugin) everything seems to work but the Media files I want to use with Java FX.
I'm using the following code to access the files as part the deployed JAR file. When I check the one-jar file I can see the sound.mp3 file being at the correct position but Java is throwing the following error:
MediaException: MEDIA_UNAVAILABLE JAR Entry main/......sound.mp3 not found.
Am I doing something wrong here with accessing the file via the url?
The code works fine in eclipse but does no longer work when deployed as one-jar.
    My code:
    final URL sound = this.getClass().getResource("/com/mypackage/sound.mp3");
    AudioClip soundEffect = new AudioClip(sound.toString());

I've uploaded a basic maven eclipse project which can be used to reproduce the error. The maven pom generates a one-jar file which can be executed. Running the code inside Eclipse works and running it via the one-jar throws the error below.
You can download the zip file with the eclipse export here: http://www.smallfiles.org/download/3106/eclipse-project.zip.html

  • I have converted most of my windows media files to itunes. However I had to close it down about 3 quarters of the way through. It then processed the album art. How can I convert the files that it didn't finish doing the first time? thanks

    Hi there,
hope you can help me. I helped my sister convert her window media files to itunes and set up an account for her. Unfortunately her computer is really slow and it was really late and we had to turn it off. It processed some of the album art for the files that it had converted. However, some songs were not converted and because there was quite a few left, I don't really know which ones did not get converted as I selected  all of the folders. How do I find out which ones I have left to convert and put the rest of the songs onto itunes for her please? Or are they on the itunes still as they showed up initially on itunes in the list to be converted.
    Thank you!

You could convert them all again and then dedupe, or use a Windows search to reveal all the WMA files and then try to work out which still need to be converted. If you're lucky iTunes would have processed the imports in alphabetical path order so it would just be a matter of working out where it had got up to...

  • How to isolate media files in Applications from video uploaders within FMS

    Hello,
We have linux-centos with FMS 3.5.2, apache is on another server.
We host media files within applications folders.
The media files are uploaded via ssh by different users, each one populating her own my_app/streams.
    the problem:
We do not want the users to be able to see/download one another files while connected via ssh.
This is difficult because of the user/group needed by FMS.
We tried several hours changing groups/users without finding a solution.
Either FMS cannot stream or a user can see/download elsewhere than in her my_app/stream
(to explain a bit better, I hope, a view of a situation where it does stream, but also leave media files accessible to useradm2)
    FMS is run by fmsuser:fmsgrp
    user1 uid:gid is usr1adm:fmsgrp
    user2 usi:gig is usr2adm:fmsgrp
    [root@my_serv ~]# tree -gup /home/sanmultimedia/applications/testaccess/
    /home/sanmultimedia/applications/testaccess/
    |-- [-rw-r----- fmsuser  fmsgrp   ]  main.asc
    `-- [drwxr-sr-x usr1adm  fmsgrp   ]  streams

Does anyone has a hint ?

VOD changes won't help him, he said outside the applications
folder. According to adobe any new vod folders must be in the
applications folder, hence virtually worthless for most purposes. A
better question may be, how do you specify a folder on a different
local hard drive. I wish adobe wouldn't make it so complicated, it
should be a really simple matter.

  • I have 60 000 songs on a hard drive. The songs are referenced to the media file and not stored in the media file. I have moved the songs to another external drive. The itunes library has lost the link to the media files. How can I restore the links?

I have all my songs (60 000) on a remote drive. The drive is wireless networked. I installed a new router and had to map the drive again. Once this was done itunes could no longer locate the music. My music is not sitting in my media file but is rather referenced to the location of the music. Now that the location has changed due to the remapped drive how can I link the itunes library to the songs (media)again.
I have read many help comments and forums but so far nothing specific about relinking once the songs have already been moved and are referenced songs.
A step by step procedure would be helpful.
    Thank you
    Graham

I've uploaded a newer version that might catch that error. For some background on the script look at this thread.
iTunes remembers the location of each file in the database. If you right-click on a missing file, click Get Info, cancel when it asks you to try to find it, then look on the summary tab it will show you the last known location in the form file://localhost/<some path>. If you put the files back where they are expected to be, close iTunes and reopen, then iTunes will find them again. If not my script can attempt the task. When the script asks for a media folder you should respond with Z:\ since that seems to be where the artist folders are located.
