Duplicated photos after update, missing videos

Help! Since iphoto 11 updated itself last, all the photos that were originally in my library (imported into the previous version i.e. not iphoto 11) have duplicated themselves, but if I ask it to reveal in finder, only one file is shown. Any ideas why? It's rather tedious now to look through the photos.
All the video files that I imported in the previous version are there and play, but it hasn't imported the ones I tried to import since I changed to iphoto11. Can it not do this any more? Does this mean that I lose the ability to see if I have a video which is related to an event?

That's how a library should be upgraded to a new version. Upgrade the application and open the library with the new app. No importing necessary.
Sounds like your library is damaged. Do you have a backup copy of the library before it was upgraded? If so copy it to your Pictures folder, renamed so it won't conflict with your current library, and open it with iPhoto 9.1.1.
If you don't have a backup, make a temporary, duplicate copy of the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.
Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Recovering Photos after Updating to iOs7

i cant seem to find my photos after updating to iOs 7 yet i had backed em up on iCloud...what could be the problem?

First go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and make sure your backup appears at the bottom (under Back Up Now), and that it doesn't say Incomplete Backup.  That will confirm that your backup exists and is usable.
Then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, then go through the setup screens on your device and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup.  Make sure you phone is connected to wifi and your charger while it is restoring.  More details here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766.  (I don't believe you have to turn off Find My iPhone if you are erasing all content and settings.  It will prompt you if you do.)
    Hi, everyone
I have a iphone 4 with iOS 6. And I wanna restore my iphone to factory settings. But every time when I click 'Restore iphone' from itunes, it will ask me to upgrade to iOS 7. But I don't want to use iOS 7 now.
I tried to click with 'option' key, but there is no any version selection options for me. Can anyone tell me what can I do to restore iOS 6? Thanks

How to recover photos after updating iPad to iOS 5?

If you didn't back them up, such as to an appropriate photo app's photo library on a Mac or PC, there is nothing to recover.

  • Missing photos after updating my apple software to iOS 7... Helppp

So I lost a load of photos that I had stored on my iPad whilst travelling after updating the software. They then returned on my photo stream, and then before I had the chance to save them to my camera roll, they disappeared again... Surely they must still be somewhere if they returned originally? Does anyone know how to get them back? Some stayed but quite a few are gone! They're my memories from months abroad :(

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there (subject to a 1,000 photo limit) until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.

  • Not Enough Space to Sync My Photos After Updating to 4.3

With iOS 4.2, I was able to sync my entire Aperture photo library to my iPad and still had about 3GB to spare on it. It's a 32GB iPad. If I recall correctly, the photos took up about 6GB on it. After updating to 4.3 today, iTunes is telling me that it can not sync my photos to it because there is not enough space.
How can this be? I had been syncing the entire library before with 4.2. OK, maybe Apple is optimizing the photos differently for 4.3 and they need more space, I don't know. I went ahead and cleared out all my video I had synced there along with some other stuff and freed up over 20GB of space which is available. Yet iTunes is still saying there's not enough space. How can this be? There was space with iOS 4.2, but not with 4.3. With 4.2 I had a few GB to spare even with my entire photo library synced. Now I freed up over 20GB and it's telling me it can not sync my photos.
So now I am going to try to selectively sync photos to my iPad instead of choosing the option to sync them all. I still don't understand why I was able to sync them all under 4.2, but not 4.3.

OK, I got it to work. Here is what I did.
First it seems that iTunes is over-estimating the size of the photo library before it re-optimizes it. I have 17k of photos that I sync. It was reporting it would need in excess of 30GB of space to sync it (actually it only reports that there's not enough space, it doesn't give you actual numbers, but I was able to calculate them).
So I cleared off all my videos from my iPad and whatever photos iTunes did sync to it and thus I had just over 20 GB free. Still wasn't enough space to sync my photos iTunes would report.
I know previously that my photos fit on my iPad under iOS 4.2 and even if Apple has changed the optimization process resulting in larger image files, I can't believe they would be 5x larger. So I decided to sync just a fraction of my photos. I synced about a third of my photos. iTunes reported that it would be using 10.5 GB of space for those photos. But once it optimized them and synced them to my iPad, it was less than 2GB of space. So I knew I would be able to fit them all, it is just that iTunes is over-estimating the size.
After a third of my photos were already synced to my iPad, now iTunes was reporting it would need 16.5GB for my entire library. I synced it.
In the end, I was able to sync my entire photo library back to my iPad and the resulting space used for it is 5.8 GB, not over 30GB as iTunes was estimating originally.
So if anyone else is having this issue, try clearing out some space on your iPad, and then syncing only a fraction of your library (a third or half) after that, then try syncing your entire library again. Once you do, you can put back media that you cleared out to make space.
    Cheers,
    Louis

  • Big problem with photos after update to iOS 4.3

    Hi everyone,
I have a big problem with the photos on my iPhone 4 after updating to 4.3
There is not enough space for them, anymore. Before the update I had about 9000 photos synced with iTunes -and I had about 10 GB free. Now, iTunes can't sync the photos anymore because there is not enough space on the iPhone??? The same amount of photos does not fit anymore. I suppose there is an error in the Itunes photo compression module. Anybody else with the problem? Any suggestions for a workaround?
    Thanks, Olaf
Update: The same number of photos is taking up three times as much space than before.

Me too, but I have the solution.
There seems to be 2 problems. First, for some reason your data is taking up more space post update, so if you were close to filling your device, you now overrun. This isn't well handeld by iTunes, but doesn't seem to be the biggest problem as I'm sure that would sort itself out if you could just get it to sync.
The root problem is the 2nd one - the missing file. Mine was a photo, but it took me ages to find it and you're not going to like how I did it. I started to untick things to sync one by one (music first) and attempting the re-sync. I found that it was a file in my photos that was causing the problem, so I removed those and then re-loaded everything back up and I'm now OK again. I use Aperture to sync with.
I had the same problem with the last OS update and it's a pain because it takes ages to sort with a nearly full 32G device.
Now onto my iPad for an update, but that's proving to be a non-starter as the thing wont back up due to "another session in progress". More rooting around to solve that I guess......

  • Problem sync photos after update itunes

Although the ipod is connected and the program did a sync on the new music or podcasts without any problems, it won't load new photos after I changed the selection for the pictures to be on my ipod.

  • Lost all my photos after updating from 2.14 to 3. Anyway to recover them?

Have been using aperture 2.14 for years, love it! Uploaded about a months worth of photos last night and began editing as normal. Program kept crashing over and over so I began searching reason why and realized it could be because I just updated to Mavericks OSX. Read that Mavericks and older versions of aperture can be "buggy" and that I should upgrade aperture to 3.0. After the upgrade all photos after 2009 are gone. I have everything backed up except the months worth of photos I just uploaded last night and I already deleted from my camera. Anyway to recover them? I went to the root aperture library to see if they were still there just not being referenced and the file size changed right before my eyes! Please help

Open the App Store, choose "Updates" from the bottom, then "Purchased".  You can re-download your purchased apps from there.
Of course, before that, you had to go to Settings > iTunes & App Stores and sign in with your Apple ID.

  • How do I retrieve my photos after updating my iPad to iOS 8.1?

    Hi
I updated my iphone to 8.1 this morning and enabled the icloud photos option. All seemed to work fine. After updating my iPad though, I couldn't find all the photos that were previously on it (and not on my phone). Even after enabling the icloud option it shows only the photos on my phone. Tried icloud but still no luck. Are my photos really lost?
    Thanks!
    Ud

It might still be restoring your backup.   You can tell be going to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and checking the bottom of the screen.

  • IPhone wont sync all photos after updating to 4.2

    Hi,
I just recently tried to update to 4.2 and before I did this I backed up my phone, like I always do. I then downloaded and installed the firmware. When it started back up, there was no music and it said I had to rebuild my photo library before opening photos app. I did and when it was finished it only showed 800 pictures out of my original 1500+. I then searched for my backup I created before but the only one there was the backup it just created.... I don't know how to get my pictures back now. please help

Are you saying you had 1500+ pictures in your camera roll? If not, then the pictures should be in the folder on the computer you sync with. All you have to do is resync the phone. If they were pictures in the camera roll, you see why it is important to import the pictures to the computer as soon as you can to ensure you have them. The backup for the iPhone is not that much of a guarantee. I wouldn't know why the phone would have backed up a second time after updating the software, but if it did, it overrights the last backup, unless it was a restore backup.

  • Computor Not Seeing new Photos after Update

Man I been searching for anyone having this problem. I can't find it..
After updating my 3gs to OS4... when I plug in the phone to my Windows Xp Computer and browse to the folder for the Images... all the new ones are not there. But they are in the iPhone camera roll.
Am I the only one that is having this issue?
    Any suggestions..

I have a similar issue. When I go to import new photos taken with the iPhone 4 running iOS4, they cant seem to be found. What i have discovered is they are further back in the folder for some reason.
The phone seems to be dating them in the past, so they are way back in the folder. I suggest you thoroughly browse your photo folder and see if you can't locate them somewhere in it.
Hopefully you arent like me with nearly 4,000 photos. It's a lot of browsing......

  • Missing photos after updating to new app

I updated my MBP software and opened the new Photos app. It looks like most of my photos automatically went in there, but I am missing quite a few as well. Any photos from May to December 2014 seem to be missing from the new app. How can I find them, and if I need to import them from somewhere, how do I ensure I don't duplicate all the photos that have already imported?
    Thank you!

I am still missing these photos. Any suggestions out there?

  • Missing photos after updating to iOS 8

I recently updated my iPad to ios 8, and an album of my pictures is missing.
A lot of them weren't backed up, but I don't see why they would disappear.
I've searched through all my pictures and I can't find them
If anyone has a solution, please tell me because I need those pictures.

This did not work on my iPhone 6. I keep getting "Your tones were not affected", even though a month ago the ringtone that disappeared was my default ringtone on this iPhone 6. As far as I'm concerned, iOs 8.1.2 is a complete fiasco.
