Duplicated Photos in Library

Somehow each of my pictures in the library have been duplicated.  How do I easily delete all duplicates?

If you have imported one iPhoto library into this one do you still have backups of both libraries (or if this one was a new library a copy of the old library - if you do it is simple - quit iPhoto and drag the new library to the desktop and then drag the old library to the pictures folder and launch iPhoto)

Your iPhoto library is not duplicating anything. Give virtually no information the only guess is that you imported an old iPhoto library into a new one.  NEVER import one photo library into another one. If you did and still have the old library you can easily recover. Drag the library you messed up to the desktop and drag the old library to the pictures folder and launch iPhoto

How do I delete duplicated photos in my photo library?

If you want to just remove them form youriPhone or iPad then click on your device at top right and select the photos tab. You can then choose which photos sync out to your device in terms of Albums, Events or faces.
If you want to control which pictures share to your Apple TV then in itunes File, Home Sharing, Choose files to share with Apple Tv
If you remove them completly from everywhere then delete within the source app. Most commonly iPhoto or Aperture on a mac.

  • Duplicating Photos in iPhoto '08 is rough - any solutions?

Two problems: One is that duplicating photos in iPhoto doesn't always work. Usually when I highlight a photo and select "Duplicate" I get a new version of the photo. Sometimes it does nothing at all, and other times it take me out of the event that I'm viewing making it so that I have to go back in and find the photo (which takes time. Are there updates or work-arounds for these problems?
2 - This is the bigger one. I select a photo and choose "Edit in external editor", Photoshop opens with the photo that I'm editing right there. Beautiful! But then I make my edits and try to save it under a different name (Save As) -- Where did the photo go? Isn't there a way to get it to save back into the iPhoto library? Or do I have to save to my desktop and reimport it (which creates a new event, so I then have to drag back to the original event.... big hassle).
Any suggestions on either or both issues? Thanks very much.

There have been issues reported with duplicating photos in iPhoto - search the iPhoto forums for Duplicating
The bigger question is why you are doing lots of duplicates. Generally it is not necessary since iPhoto ALWAYS maintains the original and you can always revert to it if you need to - maybe you are making duplicates that are uncessary?

When you edit in an external editor you just save (not save as) and the photo goes back to iPhoto and iPhoto maintains the original and tracks the modified version and everything is cool - when you do a save as you break the chain and iPhoto no longer knows about your photo or how it relates to the photos that you started with - so if you do that you have to reimport the new photo into iPhoto (just as you would any other new photo) and iPhoto will now maintain it as an original and track any modifications you do to it (along with the one you started with which is a different original and maybe modified version)
So I think the answer to both questions may be a better understanding of how iPhoto works and your workflow

  • How to sort photo events by date and avoid having duplicated photos on iPhone 6+

How to sort photo events bby date and avoid having duplicated photos. Before the sorting by date worked perfectly by specifying "sort events by date ascending" in iPhoto from my Mac. Now the sorting from iPhoto has no more effect on the iPhones. And photos are often duplicated when synchronisin. Before these problems didn't happen. How to do?

You can not  --  neither automatically or manually - you should never be in the masters folder and there is never a need to be - iPhoto is a SQLite database and it's database structure is determined by it (and changes from time to time) - use the supported access methods (direct access to the photo files is not supported and never has been) - either using iPhoto or using the media browser in the lower left hand corner of every open/attach/iupload window
It is CRITICAL that you NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or content of the iPhoto library using the finder or any program other than iPhoto

How can I avoid duplicating photos in iPhoto?

You can use one of these applications to identify and remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when one library has been imported into another with iPhoto 8 and earlier.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.

  • When I first am looking at my newly uploaded photos in "Library", a box appears near the bottom of the photo that says "loading" (the photo looks good to me), then it is more "faded" and does not look as good.  Is there some setting on that I am not aware

When I am first looking at my newly uploaded photos in "Library," a box appears near the bottom of the photo that says "Loading".  While it is loading, I usually think the photo looks "good".  After the photo is done loading, it looks more washed out.  Is there some sort of setting that I might have on (or that I need to turn on) so that this does not happen.  I have Lr4.  Thanks.

    Hi Tracy,
There used to be a way to see if poster was new to the forum.., anyway - welcome to the forum.
As I was alluding to, biggest differences in initial display are due to:
    * Camera calibration profile.
    * Auto-exposure/contrast settings (for which compensations have been auto-applied in camera, but not in Lightroom).
So, choose a matching camera calibration profile (whether that's an option or not depends on your camera model - they're available for many but not all models) if you prefer one of them over "Adobe Standard" (the factory default profile).
Also, your camera covers for underexposure due to non-optimal auto-exposure/contrast setting, Lightroom doesn't, so your options are:
    * turn it off in camera.
    * learn to compensate manually (or automatically via a plugin) in Lightroom.
Of course, in addition to preferred defaults (alt-click big "reset" button in dev module), come up with some presets which are appropriate for your druthers and type of photography.. e.g. these will compensate Nikon ADL settings:

  • Photos in library when I open, but won't open in edit?

When I open iphoto all my photos are there, but when I double click to open into edit they won't open - also when I checked to see if a photo would open from DESKTOP PREFERENCES as DESKTOP PHOTO, photo wouldn't open and lost ability to open any photo (as desktop photo) from library. All photos are definitely in the PICTURES FOLDER in IPHOTO LIBRARY FOLDER. All this started happening yesterday when I was rearranging/trashing/renaming with BRIDGE/PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS?

    F:
The problem isn't with the iPhoto application it's with the library folder and the contents. The database file has been corruputed so what you are probably facing is creating a new library and importing the Originals folder from the old library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the rolls from the original.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same rolls as the original library. However dates on the rolls may be different but can be edited as you would the roll title.
Once this is completed you can delete the Originals folder from the desktop and the iPhoto Llibrary folder. If desired, you can keep the older library folder to try other fixes on it.
In the future I recommend you make a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto file after each import and after doing a lot of editing and organizing in the library. Then if you experience a similar crash all you need to do is replace the damaged database file with the backup copy and you'll be back to the same place in the library as when you make the backup. See the tip at the end of my signature.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

    Hello nicky:
You should run repair disk from your software install DVD before you try anything else. The crash may have damaged some of your directories - and a possible cause of the "missing/not missing" tunes.

  • How do I // find the library for i photos // move i photos and library to picture folder- macbookkpro a1150? 2005-2008

how  doi find and identify i photos and library and make sure i photos is valid  .. i want to move iphotos library to picture folder so i can sync my black berry media and clean it off .. it says i need an update  but i learned that its just the iphotos folder misplaced
help im super computer/jargin stupid keep it real simple

if you need an update from App Store I assume that means the application in /Applications and nothing to do with iPhoto Library which can be anywhere and default is in Pictures, though it runs smoother if it is on a separate different drive. (Just go to where it is and open and will remember its location so whether now or after the move)
I put my iPhoto Library on an SSD which works very well. same goes for Aperture too.

  • When a new hard drive was installed in my imac, photobooth asked me to choose my existing photo booth library or create a new one. My existing one is there, but I can't select it.

My hard drive recently had to be replaced, and I just got my computer back with successful data recovery. When I opened Photo Booth, I was prompted with the following: 'Photo Booth could not locate your photo library. Please choose an existing library, or create a new one in order to continue using Photo Booth. This photo library will be used the next time you open Photo Booth.'
I navigated to my regular photo booth library in my hard drive, but it wouldn't allow me to select it. I then tried opening and updating iPhoto including upgrading my library. I imported my old Photo Booth Library as well. Everything works! I should be allowed to use the same folder as before, instead of creating a "Photo Booth Library #2" or something. Any Ideas?

    Repair permissions ...
Launch Disk Utility located in your Applications / Utilities folder
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
    Click:  Repair Disk Permissions
This can take a few minutes so don't be alarmed.
Restart your Mac when it's finished then try PhotoBooth.

  • No Photos in Library

I just got on iPhoto today, and all of the photos in my library have dissapeared, but they're still saved on my computer. I just installed the new versions of quicktime and iPhoto (i think) and was wondering if this could have anything to do with it, and what the easiest way to fix this would be. Thanks for any help!
Also, I thought I should add that a few days ago I accidently deleted some of these things in my library folder with names like "Thumbs64" but then worried that they might be important and moved them back from the trash into the folder.

Well, I used to have all my of photos in different albums and I had them all tagged with keywords, but when I get on iPhoto now, it says that there are 0 photos in my library and none of my albums are there. It also reverted back to the original keywords that come with iPhoto instead of the ones that I tagged my photos with.
It looks like they're still on my computer, however, because when I use the finder and look in Photos>iPhoto Library>Originals, the files are still there. I tried importing these into my library, but an error message came up.
    Thanks for everything!

  • Lightroom 4 Bug: can only see photos in Library mode, not develop mode

This may be related to other imported catalog bugs, but does not seem to be quite the same. In Lightroom 4, with an upgraded Lightroom 3 catalog:
    1. Select a photo in Library mode.
    2. Click on Develop to go to Develop mode
Screen shows "No photo selected". I cannot edit photos in Develop mode.
I can see and edit photos that are found in smart collections, but not photos that are simply in my collections from 2012, 2011, etc. folders

This happened to me, too, after importing a couple older LR3 catalogs (upgrading/consolidating). I could see the photo in Library module but when I pressed "D" (single photo selected) I was getting the "no photo selected" error message--for every photo I tried. I wasn't able to open any photos at all in the develop module. (These were photos that were fine before installing LR4 and upgrading.) Photos were from imported LR3 and LR4 Beta catalogs.
I restarted and everything seems ok--for now!
So if you come across this thread with this same issue, restart and see if that helps. (Before restarting LR I optimized as suggested above, which did nothing for the "no photo selected" issue. And this isn't related to the parent folder issue, I left my photos in the same place and didn't have more than 3k photos in any of the parent folders. I read in other threads that people had the issue again after importing other catalogs. I'm about to do that so I'll report back.

  • All Photos in library are "offline or missing"

All photos say that the file is either offline or missing in LR4.  Cannot export or do anything with any photos in library.  I cannot find the files anywhere on the computer. Need help.

    A-M:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions and Merry Christmas (hope this doesn't ruin your Christmas).I get "Unreadable Files
That message comes up because you're trying to import a file that is inside the iPhoto Library folder. That can't be done. That file is the file where your album information is stored. It belongs there. Don't mess with it.
First make a duplicate of your iPhoto Library folder - select it and type Command-D. Now launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all the options except the last one regarding the orphaned files. That should rebuild your library and keep most of your organizational efforts intact. You may have some files that end up in a "Recovered" roll and/or album. See if that doesn't work. Good luck.
